It wasn’t supposed to be like this. The new Friendship Express Mark II, top-of-the-line in locomotive technology and topped with first-class luxuries. “Huh?” Twilight asked as she glanced at Rarity. A familiar scent wafted through the air and Twilight took a few curious sniffs as she tried to deduce what it was. As well as the four of them, there were five other ponies in the cabin: what looked to be a family of three at a table far from them, a stallion seemingly sleeping at the bar’s counter, and the bartender himself.
“Alright, here goes,” Twilight whispered as she opened her saddlebag and pulled out a brown trenchcoat, a facemask and some shades. She donned the disguise and then pulled out the final piece: a fedora to cover her mane and her horn. With her cover active, Twilight opened the door and entered the dining cart.

Twilight Sparkle decided to keep her distance and took a seat near the family of three, lifting her menu up for added cover. “Target acquired. Initiating attack.” Twilight opened her saddlebag again, making sure that nopony was looking as she pulled out the final item she had carried to the dining cart. “The one you caused?” Time Turner asked.
“… Okay, so you heard of it,” Vinyl Scratch said with a pout.

“Excuse me,” a sudden voice said, startling Twilight Sparkle just as she cast her spell. She turned around, feeling like she was about to have a heart attack, to find the bartended standing before her. “Are you going to order anything, sir?”
“O-Oh!” Twilight responded in her best stallion voice. “Well, it seems that I’m not hungry after all!” The stallion raised an eyebrow and Twilight slowly climbed out of her seat, shuffling by whilst giggling nervously. “S-Sorry about that. I’ll be leaving now.” With that, Twilight zipped out of the cabin, leaving a sighing stallion behind.
“That was close,” Twilight said to herself with a sigh. “Okay, I’ve been a little more daring, but I still want to try more. Fluttershy probably wouldn’t make a noise if I approached her directly… Strange. It feels like I’m forgetting something.”
Meanwhile, back in the dining cabin, Pinkie Pie’s connection to reality was completely severed as the buzzing inside of her doubled in one instant. Her entire body shook in rhythm with the vibrations and she no longer made any attempts to silence herself.

“Oh. Okay!” The filly looked at Pinkie Pie’s seat, finding it dark and something wet dripping from the side. ‘Did she spill some juice? But…’ The filly looked up at the table. ‘She wasn’t drinking any juice…’
Fluttershy was humming away happily as she filled the food bowls of all of her new animal friends in the pet carriage. “There you go, everyone. Lots of yummy treats for you all to enjoy.”
“Oh, my. You’re such a natural, dear,” Mrs. Twombly said as she watched Fluttershy from behind her counter. “It’s so nice to have you here since my usual assistant isn’t feeling well.”

The phone behind Mrs. Twombly rang and she picked it up. “Hello? Oh, dear! It seems my assistant, Blythe, really isn’t feeling well and will need to get off at the next stop. They want me to be there by her side until then, but the pet carriage…”
“I can fill in for you,” Fluttershy offered. “I really wouldn’t mind, and I’m really good with animals.”
“Thank you, Fluttershy. You really are a dear,” Mrs. Twombly said as she collected her saddlebag and left the counter, allowing Fluttershy to enter past her. “It should be about forty minutes to the next station. Blythe’s father should already be on his way there. If anything goes wrong, the infirmary’s phone is set to number nine.”
“Thank you, but I don’t think we’ll have any problems at all,” Fluttershy said, smiling to the pets over in the playpen. “Will we?”
The pets stopped for a moment to look at Fluttershy, and then resumed eating their meals. Mrs. Twombly left the carriage, and all was silent.
Fluttershy sighed. “Sure would be nice to talk to animals,” she said to herself as she leaned over on the counter. “I enjoy taking care of them, but sometimes it feels like the feeling is only mutual…” The sound of the door opening caught Fluttershy’s attention, but when she turned her head, nopony was there. The door simply closed on its own. “Hello?”
‘About time,’ Twilight thought to herself as she sneaked through the shadows, keeping herself out of Fluttershy’s sight. ‘I thought I’d have to skip her since she seemed set on staying here.’
“Guess it was just my imagination,” Fluttershy concluded as she returned to leaning on the counter, looking to her right to see the few ponies in the carriage that were either playing with their pets, feeding them, dressing them up, or just talking to each other.
Twilight Sparkle grinned as she emerged from the shadows behind Fluttershy. ‘I-I can’t believe I’m doing this,’ she thought to herself as she approached the yellow pony, hooves trembling. ‘I mean, I’ve always wondered what it’d be like, but what if I were caught? My parents would disown me. My brother would have to arrest me! Princess Celestia would banish me!’ Twilight swallowed the lump in her throat. She was so close to her goal. She couldn’t back down now! ‘Besides, it’s Fluttershy we’re talking about, so it’ll probably be okay…’
Reaching a shaking hoof forwards, Twilight eventually made contact with the soft, fine fur of the yellow pegasus. As expected, this drew an eep out of the pony, but Twilight was already one step ahead. Using her magic, she rearranged the displays on the counter so that she would be shielded from any eyes that might have been cast their way.
