Luna of My Dreams
A Dream I Won't Forget
Load Full StoryA Dream I Won't Forget
Princess Luna, she is absolutely breath-taking. I love how she greets and smile at her subjects. The way her magical hair gently waves against the soft winds. The way she gracefully floats up into the sky when she raises the moon at night. And I knew, deep in my heart, that I love Princess Luna. I pray, that I will be able to let her know about my pent-up feelings for her.
But, it was a matter easier said than done. Nopony can just walk into the castle and suddenly declare their love to the princess. Then again, I'm quite sure she encounters that a lot. Ever since her return from the moon, whenever she appears alongside Princess Celestia for some royal decree. The ponies will all shout and cheer at her. With me amongst them, hidden, away from the huge crowd. Her smile was ever always so radiant, so gentle, so...mesmerizing. And my heart can never stop pounding.
But who am I, to ask for such a chance? To be given the opportunity to tell her my feelings? I don't deserve to love her, nor receive her love. I'm just a poor pony. I am not a part of her royal guard. Heck, I don't even work in the castle. I am just a dirty beggar. I cower in the dark alleyways by day, avoiding the glares, the mocking eyes, the abusive words. I leave my brief sanctuary only at night, searching for scraps of food. Nopony gives me a second glance. They all past by me, their heads held high. Because when they see me, all they see is a pest. A plague. An abomination.
Yes indeed, I am all of them. What good can I do in this world? I am always starving, always being chased away. I'll be better off dead.
But, for some reason, Princess Luna gives me strength. Whenever I get that rare chance to actually catch a brief glimpse of her, my heart is instantly filled with hope, and love. I may not posses a house, or have a loving family. But at least, I have her. The strength I receive from just seeing her, gives me the power to continue on, to move forward. To live.
But all that cannot fill an empty stomach, nor can it cure sickness. After years of eating dirty and spoiled food, it wasn't long before I got sick. And now, I feel it in my bones, I was dying. My end is approaching.
Death do not scare me, I never thought much about it. But the thought of leaving this world, without ever telling Princess Luna my feelings, my gratitude, my love for her. It would greatly wound me. I will never be able to leave in peace.
But what can I do? Nopony will help me, they won't even look at me. I dare not approach the castle steps, for the guards will surely chase me away. Heh, Don't bother thinking of going to the castle, I'm too weak to even stand.
There was another way. I have heard whispers and talks about Princess Luna's abilities. Princess Luna is able to visit other ponies' dreams. It was her duty as the princess of the night. I've tried this many times, wishing that she will appear. All I needed was a little luck. But luck...luck always manage to slip away from me. Slithering away from my grasp.
I slept each night, trying my best to dream of her. But alas, it was all to no avail. My growling stomach keeps me awake at night, and the pains and aching I feel all over my body prevents me from having a peaceful slumber. It was horrible.
However tonight, I believe I actually might have a chance. The pain has begun to slowly fade away, and my entire body is starting to feel numb. I can no longer move my body, I realize, not that I need to anyway. I have also forgotten how it feels like to be hungry.
Yes, tonight I may finally have this chance. My last chance.
I gazed at the darkening sky one last time before shutting my eyes. Focusing all my memories of Princess Luna, her smile, her mane, everything. If I were to be given a wish right now, I would only ask that the princess hears me, and come to find me in my dreams.
I was walking towards the castle, my strength magically restored. My body was strong, and my sickness was gone. The magic of dreaming. I quickly ran into the castle, passing by the guards who paid no heed to my intrusion. I made my way pass the stained glasses, pressing my hoof on the door leading to a huge hall.
It was empty... quiet... dead. My heart shattered into a million pieces. Here, in this empty hall, is where my last dream will take place. My eyes watered, and I wept. Even in my last moments, I will never be granted the chance to see my beloved Princess Luna.
"Greetings." A soft voice suddenly said behind me. My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly spun around, and there she was before me. Princess Luna. She slowly approached me, a soft smile on her face. Her magical mane flowing softly. I dried my tears. I would be ashamed is she sees me weeping.
"Your Highness." I said as I bowed to her. "It is an honour to finally meet you." Even if it was in my dreams.
"I believe I have never seen you before." said Princess Luna, her eyes studying me. "I have visited many ponies' dream at night. And I recognize most of them. But you, I have not."
I dare not tell her of who I truly am. This, was a rare opportunity, my last and only chance to speak to her. I must not let this moment go to waste.
"It is our first meeting, Princess Luna." I said. This was it, the moment that I have always dreamed of. I took a deep breath. "I...I have something I have always wish to tell you, princess."
She stared at me, curiosity in her beautiful eyes. "Speak then, whatever it is that you wish to tell me, you may do so now."
I calmed myself down, my heart was beating furiously against my chest. I felt nervous, and scared. But I must let her know. My feelings must be told. I dared myself to step closer towards her.
"Princess Luna," I said "From the moment I first saw you, my heart was immediately smitten. I love you, Princess."
Her eyes widened, and she took a step back. I noticed her face turning red. "T-Thank you, I've always welcome and embrace all my subjects love, for I also love them as well."
I moved in closer and took her hoof in my hand. My heart was pounding so hard, it was ready to burst. "No, your highness, the love you receive from your subjects are not as strong as mine. My love for you is deep within my heart. These words alone are not enough to express it."
I held onto her hoof, not wanting to let go. She only stared at me, lost for words. This was just a dream wasn't it? I slowly inched my head closer towards her. My breathing heavy, and there was a burning desire rising in my chest. This is just a dream, and my last chance.
"I apologize, princess." and I kissed her. It felt so real, her lips were soft and moist and there was a sweet fragrance emanating from her hair. Luna did not move away, her eyes was wide with shock. She looked away when our lips separated, her face completely red. I gently let go of her hoof, and gazed softly at her. When she finally turned to face me, there was a gentle smile on her mouth. My heart melted. The love that had been buried in my heart for so long, was finally released from these invisible shackles. I was overpowered with emotions, and my tears made a rapid return. I must let her know.
"Princess Luna, I am just a nopony. I am a filthy beggar that plagues your fine city and castle. I hide in the dark alleyways by day, emerging at night, to search for unwanted food. I am weak, useless, and sick. Everyday, when the sun rises, I have this dark desire to end my life. To leave this world. To die. For I am just a pest. But your smile...your smile princess, it gives me strength, it gives me hope...and it gave me love." The pain was returning now. I could feel it, even in my dreams. I prayed for this moment to last longer, for it to never end. But the words I wish for her to hear has been spoken, and I no longer have any regrets. I do not have long.
"My dear Princess Luna, I thank you for visiting my dreams tonight. You've made a lone pony much happier. After all these years, I finally have the chance to let you know of my feelings."
"W-what do you mean?" Princess Luna asked me, stepping forward, concern in her eyes.
"I have always wanted to meet you, but I never truly had the chance. I've tried my best to dream about you, praying that you will come visit me. I've waited and waited, and tonight, in my final moments, my dreams finally came true."
"Your final moments?" Luna asked, confused. I nodded slowly. I was starting to become weak, and my surrounding were slowly becoming blurry.
"I'm afraid I am dying my dear Luna. Once this dream is over, I will be gone forever, in this world, and the real world."
Her tears caught me by surprise. She gently touched my face, as if trying to wipe away my tears. I broke down. To think that Princess Luna would actually cry for me, nopony has ever shed a single tear for me. But here she was, crying alongside with me, gently nuzzling her face against mine. I felt joy and sorrow at the same time. But at last, my time had come, I tried to savour her touch, desperately holding on to the warmth of her hoof against my cold tears. Her face began to blur, and the darkness was approaching from behind. This was the end. This was goodbye. I tried to touch her face.
"Goodbye Princess Luna." I said, as she vanished suddenly. The darkness was slowly embracing me. I managed a smile, even though my face was covered in tears. My vision was getting darker. I closed my eyes. I was ready.
"I will love you forever, my dear Luna."
