The Rock

A series of short poems. When Wing Nut gets hit by a rock somepony threw during an airshow, he is hospitalized. But the injury isn't that bad, and upon leaving the hospital prematurely, he discovers why they wanted to keep him there.

Part 2

The Rock

The show was going great.

I was finishing a flyby.

when somepony threw a rock,

and knocked me out of the sky.

It came out of nowhere.

I could easily have been killed.

But I woke up in a hospital

apparently in Ponyville.

I'm grounded for 5 weeks.

Because it hit me in the head.

They say if it had hit a centimeter off,

right now I'd be dead.

With the boredom setting in,

I sometimes wish it was so.

But I'll change my mind when I'm out of there.

When I'm flying in another airshow.

In the bed next to mine

is a pony named Amiss Fortune.

He was mauled by timber wolves,

I would really hate to be him.

The rest of my team came earlier

to see if I was okay.

But I was still unconscious.

At least that's what the nurses say.

The food here is pretty good.

Leave it to me to say that.

I really love to eat,

and always appreciate a good snack.

But I need to escape this place.

I'm going to go insane.

I can't lie in this bed that long,

despite being in pain.

I'll just walk it off.

I'll leave this boring place

I'll be better in no time,

And flying again in a few days.

Then I could find the pony

that threw that damn rock.

They ruined an entire show,

and I think we need to have a little talk.

Part 4

The Terrible Revelation

While escaping the hospital,

there are some things that I heard

there is some kind of devious plot going on,

and I'm too curious to be scared.

I turned back towards the facility

and I felt a sort of chill.

"I'm about to get involved in shit"

I thought as I caught the window sill

I hung there for some minutes,

then heard some voices inside...

"Wing Nut is gone. He's not in bed-"

"Well find him, and bring him back alive."

At hearing that name, I freaked out.

I barely managed to stifle a scream.

Because I realized then, who they wanted to kill.

their target...

was me.

After what I heard in that room tonight

as I was creeping past,

I'm glad I cared enough to investigate.

So now I know to watch my back.

But at the same time, why kill me?

I've done nothing wrong.

The lack of motive scared me more.

But right now I'd have to be strong.

I'd have to alert my friends

as to what I just found out.

I know that of all the ponies I know,

At least one of them would help.

I take flight towards Sky High's house,

because she is my best friend.

A fourty minute flight to Manehattan

And I arrive at her door and land.

I knock loudly on her door

She answers almost instantly.

Her face brightens up, as she sees who it is

I say "Somepony's trying to kill me."

Her smile fades as she hears what I say,

and she pulls me inside promptly.

she shuts the blinds nearest us,

then closes the door behind me.

We sit down on Sky's cloud sofa,

And I tell her my terrifying tale.

She listens intently until the end,

Then tells me that she will help.

Sky High offers shelter to me.

She says I can sleep wherever.

So I share the only bed with her,

And crawl under the covers.

Help

I went to Sky High's house,

and slept there for the night.

After thinking in the morning about where to get help,

I realized where I might.

I ate a large breakfast,

Because what lies ahead

is unbeknownst to me

and I don't want to end up dead.

The flight to Canterlot was long,

I flew until 12:34

But as I arrive, my heart soars.

Because I see Celestia in the streets below.

I land right down the road,

as not to piss off the guards,

and I keep up a brisk trot

as I approach from afar.

When I finally catch up to her,

I ask her for her help.

I tell her what my problem is,

and how it came about.

She agrees to dispatch some guards

to investigate my case.

So, I thank her for her kindness,

Then lead the guards back to the place.

They begin an investigation,

as soon as we arrive.

They say that it'll take a while to find the murderer.

So I stay and wait outside.

After several hours of waiting,

They return outside,

dragging two ponies out with them.

And I let out a relieved sigh.

I recognize the "nurse",

but not the other pony.

And as they see me sitting outside,

they stop and stare at me.

They ask me how I found out.

"accidentally as I was leaving." I say,

they then ask why I left in the first place.

I ignore them and ask the guards to take them away.

Part 7

Mini Epilogue

I was glad the murderers were gone,

as any sane pony would be.

I knew that I was safe now.

And it was a relief.

My head "wound" healed up well.

(Not that it was ever actually as bad as they say).

After all, it was only an excuse

for a pony to kill me and get away.

I returned to my house in Manehattan,

on a final long distance flight.

And I hoped that this would never happen again,

And I could sleep well the rest of my nights.

Part 1

The Airshow

I got a running start,

and began to flap my wings.

I gently lifted off the ground,

behind me was my team.

We ascended in formation

As we began the show,

I looked down, and to my surprise

saw the Wonderbolts watching from below.

This made me very nervous.

They are the best after all.

If they tell others they don't like us,

Our entire team will fall.

I calmed myself down,

We'd just have to do our best.

We passed through the clouds,

and prepared for the first set.

We inverted and flew what was now up,

And dropped right through the clouds.

We emerged right above the stands,

And the now cheering crowd.

We all flipped over simultaneously,

and leveled back out.

The crowd got slightly louder,

and began to scream and shout.

We all split up in separate ways,

and prepared to begin our solos

Sky High would be first, then Aero, then me,

And then we would form on Polo.

I maintained an orbit

and subtly fixed my mane

As Sky High did her solo

and made the crowd go insane.

Sky pulled out as Aero pulled in,

And he began his show.

I flew along with Sky

As he did his short solo.

When he was done, it was my turn.

The crowd cheering very loud.

I broke off from out of view,

And snuck up behind the crowd.

They noticed only when I was right above,

I happily surprised them.

They continued yelling loudly,

as I flew past and began climbing.

I flew a loop and leveled out,

Preparing to turn about,

When a small rock appeared out of nowhere

And suddenly I was out.

Part 3

Escape

The time has finally come.

I've been here for 3 days.

I can't take it any longer,

and it's time for an escape.

Night has fallen in ponyville,

The nurses vacated my room.

I'll sneak out behind their backs,

and leave this sanitary tomb.

I silently get out of bed,

and skulk across the floor,

I check to make sure my roommates asleep,

then I quietly open the door.

I see the nurse turning the corner

at the other end of the hall.

I close the door and duck back in

and press my back against the wall.

I hear her enter the room

right across from mine,

and I slip out silently

as the door closes behind.

The hallways are brightly lit,

And there's nowhere to hide.

As I sneak past a door,

I can hear voices coming from inside.

"We could tell him that we were wrong and it's fatal."

"What good would that do me?"

"We lie and say he's going to die,

then kill him in his sleep."

I paused to listen for a second

then continued in silent haste.

though I was still curious

who they were wanting to put to waste.

I would escape through the window.

At least I would give it a try.

I managed to squeeze through,

and took off into the sky.

I looked behind me at the building

that I had just exfiltrated

I thought "who were they talking about?"

And decided to find information related.

Morning

I woke up next to Sky High

As I was sharing her bed.

I remembered fast what I learned last night:

Somepony wanted me dead.

I crawled out of bed and walked to the couch

that sat in the living room.

I rested on the couch for a while.

And thought about my impending doom.

"What am I supposed to do?" I thought

as I sat solitary.

I couldn't go back to my normal life,

Because the hospital had all the information on me.

They knew where I lived and where I worked,

They knew about my airshow team.

I knew that if I tried to perform again,

they would be in the audience waiting for me.

"It was them that threw the rock." I realized,

So they'd have an excuse to take me in.

Then at the hospital, in their own territory,

They could kill me without further investigation.

Why do they want me dead so badly?

I'm completely terrified.

"Are you ok? Do you need any help?"

I suddenly hear from behind.

Sky High had walked in quietly,

and scared the hell out of me.

But I realized whose voice it was

And got over it quickly.

She sat on the couch next to me,

As I regained my breath.

I then responded to her question,

and we as silent as death.

I realized then, my safest option,

I could go to Princess Celestia.

Surely she would help me out,

I would fly, after eating, to Canterlot.
