Scootaloo to the Rescue

Previous Chapter

Deep below the North Mountain, a certain little orange pegasus filly we all know and love was running through the underground tunnels of the mountain.

'Imagine me,' Scootaloo thought. 'Krampus's little helper.'

Earlier
After Blizzard had left, Scootaloo and Hayabusa were left with Krampus, who continues to pound the bars in futile.

"Krampus?" Scootaloo called. "Are you okay?"

The christmas demon let out a snarl as he glared at the filly.

"Let me rephrase that," Scootaloo whimpered. "What can I do?"

"You've done plenty!" Krampus roared. "You've got me trapped! And put Santa Hooves and your sister in mortal danger!"

"What?!" Scootaloo looked in bewilderment.

Kramps grunted as he explains, "The Windigos have always been plotting their revenge since the very first, Hearth's Warming. But the cursed storm spirits could never unleash their master plan, until now! Rudolph had informed me today of Santa Hooves's disappearance. I knew who was behind it all, so I gathered my snow globes, my snow whip, and my trap bag, and I headed for the top of the North Mountain, where Santa is being."

Scootaloo looked up, and sure enough, she saw the silhouette of a tall mountain, with its top, twisted to form the face of a demonic horse.

"But now I'm trapped!" Krampus continued. "And without my help, the Windigoes will succeed in their plan to destroy Hearth's Warming and Santa!"

With a look of determination, Scootaloo went over and picked up the gears in the snow.

"What are you doing?"

"You got trapped because of me," Scootaloo explained. "And you can't help Santa, because of me. But I can take your gears to the top of the mountain."

Krampus shook his head, "You can't make it own your own!" he grunted. "A little filly like you stand no chance of climbing up the North Mountain to the top. Even if you can fly, you'll never get pass the Windigos! They'll freeze you out of the sky, before you can reach Santa! The only way to get to the top of the mountain, undetected, is to take the Icicle Catacombs, where a hidden stairway is located."

"Then that's what I'll do!" Scootaloo exclaimed.

"You'll never survive!" Krampus muttered. "It's a giant maze in there! Too many twists and turns. It's treacherous, no one, reindeer, pony, or demon, have ever gone into that place and come out alive, even I wouldn't dare to enter there!" Krampus closed his eyes as he muttered, "We're all doomed."

Scootaloo looked down in shame. She came all the way to help Rainbow Dash, only to stop someone who could've been a big help in Rainbow Dash's heroic efforts to save Hearth's Warming.

With a newfound strength of determination, Scootaloo looked up and answered, "It's a chance I've got to take! For Hearth's Warming!"

Krampus looked at the little filly, before muttering, "If there is even one this year."

Scootaloo kept on running through the catacombs, with her flashlight lighting the way.

'Too bad Haya's not a bat,' Scootaloo groaned. 'This would've been a lot easier. Speaking of, I hope Haya's having better luck on his part.'

The falcon meanwhile was circling around the mountain, hoping to find another way into the North Mountain, undetected. The Windigos that were patrolling the top of the mountain paid no mind to the falcon at first, since he appeared nothing more than a tiny dot from their perspective. However, knowing he is not a falcon native to the North Pole, Haya couldn't risk coming closer and draw unwanted attentions. Unable to meet with success by circling near the top, Haya went further downward.

Suddenly, he noticed something glistening. Curious, he flew down for a closer look to see it was a shining blanket, sticking out of a saddlebag. Recognizing the Wonderbolts' pin attached on the strap, Haya quickly knew it belongs to Rainbow Dash. Seeing it lying in the pit, Haya knew Rainbow Dash isn't too far. As he scanned the area, he happened upon a faint trail of foot prints, imprinted on a path that lead up the mountain and into a cavern, slightly concealed by a boulder. Seeing that there's nothing else he could do for the moment, Hayabusa simply picked the saddlebags up by the straps before he flew away.

Back to Scootaloo, the little filly was still navigating her way through the darkness of the catacombs. She had already came across several dead ends, and one of them was a wall of sharp icicles.

As Scootaloo walked cautiously down in the tunnels of the catacomb, she waved her flashlight forward and was startled a the sight of a giant fish, gaping its sharp fangs at her. She calmed herself a little upon realizing it's frozen. She turned around and screamed even louder at the sight of a giant sea monster, with the head of a crocodile, neck of a snake, and the body of what looked like a sea turtle, frozen and glaring at her. Soon enough, Scootaloo began seeing more frozen, bizarre, sea creatures around her.

'Wow,' she muttered. 'Makes me wonder if this ever was an aquarium once.'

Suddenly, she heard a scream. Turning her head in the direction of the sound, Scootaloo proceed with caution, as the sound grew louder with each steps she took, until finally she could hear the sound clearer.

"Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo exclaimed, hearing the battle taking place, followed by the sound of the Windigos. "Hang on Rainbow Dash! I'm coming!"

With her fear of the darkness disappeared, and with her determination renewed, Scootaloo galloped faster as her little hooves can carry, before she screeched to a stop. Before her was a huge pit, littered with bones of the poor unfortunate souls who were lost in the catacombs. The only way across, was a narrow, icy bridge that looked to treacherous to cross. Frightened at first, Scootaloo shook it off as she knew Rainbow Dash is in deep trouble and she needs her help. Mustering up her courage, Scootaloo carefully walked across the bridge, being careful not to slide off. Suddenly, the bridge began to crack, and Scootaloo nearly fell off, had she not leaped off at the last second. Fluttering her wings, Scootaloo had a moment to glide across and reach the other side, safely.

The rest of the trips through the catacombs wasn't easy, as Scootaloo jumped into another tunnel and found herself sliding down. At first it was fun, up until Scootaloo saw ahead, was a pit of sharp icicles sticking up from the ground. Thinking fast, Scootaloo pulled out her hockey stick, and using the club's end, she plunged the stick into the slide, slowing her fall until she came to a complete stop. After carefully reaching the other side of the pit, Scootaloo was on her way, until she came across three more tunnels.

"Which way?" Scootaloo thought.

"NO!!!" Rainbow Dash's scream echoed again.

Scootaloo turned her head in the direction the scream came from and raced into the tunnel. Upon coming out the other end, Scootaloo gasped in a mixture of shock and joy to see a huge staircase, made of ice, leading up to the top of the mountain.

"Rainbow Dash! Here I come!" Scootaloo shouted.
