And the Depths of Depravity
There were few things Vinyl Scratch hated more than the cold.
The cold invaded her body, penetrating and permeating from the tip of her snout to the round, bouncing curve of her ass. It clung to her, like a living thing. It made everything ache, and even the slightest physical contact hurt even more. The cold made her want to curl up into a ball and sleep until the air was warm again.
So why, one might wonder, would Vinyl Scratch dare to venture forth from the warmth of her house to the bitter cold of the outside world? It was simple, really. Vinyl could very well put up with one of her most hated things if it meant that she could partake in one of her most favorite things.
That thing being torturing Octavia.
“Hey, Octavia,”
Octavia, who had been consulting the opening and closing time sheet of the local candy shop, looked over her shoulder.
“Yes, Vinyl,”
Vinyl took a moment to answer, choosing her next words very carefully.
“Do you ever fantasize about covering me in chocolate and then licking it off?”
Octavia’s once placid expression suddenly morphed into a snarl.
“No, Vinyl,” she growled.
“Are you sure?” Vinyl continued, fumbling a small cassette player out of the front pocket of her jacket. “Because the recording I have here suggests otherwise.”
Octavia raised an eyebrow. “What recor-?”
Vinyl pressed play and the tape started up. The sounds of rustling bed-sheets and soft moans emanated from the tiny speaker, followed soon by Octavia’s voice.
”Mmm, no, no I shouldn’t. I’m on diet, Vinyl. O-oh my, umph, that is rich and cre-”
Vinyl made the mistake of closing her eyes to savor the expression of Octavia’s face. She didn’t see the cellist’s hoof until she felt it knock the cassette player out of her hooves. Vinyl’s eyes snapped open just in time to see Octavia stomp the outdated technology into a thousand tiny pieces.
“As I said before,” Octavia panted, a murderous smile on her face. “What recording?”
Vinyl shrugged, levitating the pieces into the nearest trash can.
“Eh, it’s okay. That’s just one of the ones from last week.”
Octavia’s smile faltered.
“You mean you’ve had that thing for a week?”
“Yes,”
“And you’ve been following me around waiting for me to go to a candy shop?"
Vinyl shrugged. “It’s getting close to Hearts and Hooves Day. I knew you’d go to one eventually.”
“And you-” Octavia licked her lips “-you have more of these?”
“Yep,”
Octavia drew in a lungful of the fridge air and the let it out slowly, her breath flowing in a cloud around her head. “Vinyl Scratch,”
“Yes?”
“I’m going to give you a five second head-start.”
Vinyl cocked an eyebrow.
“What do you-?”
“Four, three,”
Vinyl had the good sense to start running.
A few hours later, Vinyl was enjoying a cool, crisp appletini, safe from Octavia’s wrath inside her well secured bedroom. The day after she had accidentally peeped in on Octavia and Val, she had gone out and purchased three deadbolts, two clasp locks, and a good old-fashioned door chain. Her paranoia about being eaten in her sleep had since abated, but she kept the locks. Never knew when she’d have to hide from a miffed cellist.
Vinyl took another sip of her drink, sighing contently. Carefully, she placed the drink on the corner of her desk and turned her attention to her computer. Well, technically it was Octavia’s computer. Her old computer. She had a new one, but insisted on holding onto this one for whatever reason. It probably had a lot of porn on it. Not that Vinyl could find it, since Octavia had password locked most of the folders.
Vinyl was pulled from her porn-based musings when the computer chimed, alerting her another user had logged onto the chat. Vinyl smirked and quickly typed out a message with her magic.
WubWuver96: Hey there ;)
The other user quickly responded.
SnakeAndBake: Nice to talk to you again.
WubWuver96: How have you been?
SnakeAndBake: Bloated. Ate a few teenagers that wandered into my house.
Vinyl took a sip of her appletini as she typed.
WubWuver96: I hear they can be very fattening ;)
SnakeAndBake: You have no idea.
Vinyl took another sip of appletini.
WubWuver96: so, have you thought about that thing ;) we talked about?
SnakeAndBake: Extensively. Had to launder the sheets.
WubWuver96: I’m serious :I
SnakeAndBake: So am I.
Vinyl took a large gulp of her appletini.
WubWuver96: So, any ideas?
SnakeAndBake: Not really. To be honest, aside from our raging libidos and the Beatles, Octavia and I don’t discuss much.
Vinyl frowned and tapped a hoof against the desk. That really wasn’t the response the was hoping for. She was really hoping that the answer was that Octavia secretly loved wubs. Although, it just so happened that earlier that day Vinyl had seen a big Beatles box set in the local music shop. Octavia would love-
The chat message beeped.
SnakeAndBake: And before you ask, she already has just about every record they ever put out. And more to the point, her favorite member is Ringo. RINGO!
Vinyl scowled.
WubWuver96: Are you serious? No one’s favorite Beatle is Ringo. not Even Ringo’s! You know who Ringo’s favorite Beatle is? George.
SnakeAndBake: Well, everybody loves George.
WubWuver96: Damn straight
Vinyl sighed and took another hit from her drink.
WubWuver96: Although, this still leaves me with no idea what to get Octavia for Hearts and Hooves Day
SnakeAndBake: You could always get her a sex toy. Based on our earlier chats, she seems to like jelly dildos.
WubWuver96: That’s a thing?
SnakeAndBake: Yes. They’re edible too.
Vinyl opened another tab, typed ‘Jelly Dildo’ into the search bar and hit enter. She quickly closed the tab and deleted her browsing history.
WubWuver96: Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to work.
SnakeAndBake: Worth a shot. So what now?
WubWuver96: I don’t know. Wait till next year?
SnakeAndBake: You’re going to wait a whole year to tell Octavia how you feel all because you can’t think of a gift for her?
WubWuver96: If I just walk up and tell her I love her she’s going to laugh at me.
SnakeAndBake: Bitches love someone that makes them laugh.
WubWuver96: I’m serious.
SnakeAndBake: Well, why don’t you write her a song?
WubWuver96: Because unlike me, Octavia doesn’t wuv wubs.
SnakeAndBake: Then just play it on a piano or something.
WubWuver96: I don't actually know how to play any other instruments.
SnakeAndBake: You realize the turntable is not an instrument, right?
WubWuver96: Not the point
SnakeAndBake: Fine, but you really don't know how to play any other instruments?
WubWuver96: I never thought I’d need to know how.
Vinyl took another sip as she put the full brunt of her short attention span on her current problem. There had to be something she could get Octavia for Hearts and Hooves day.
WubWuver96: Hey, I just had a thought.
SnakeAndBake: Do tell.
WubWuver96: Why don’t I get her you
The response took a few moments.
SnakeAndBake: I don’t follow
WubWuver96: I’ll buy you a plane ticket, fly you out here, and then you and Octavia can get all freaky.
SnakeAndBake: So your new plan to tell your friend that you like her- as in ‘like’ like her -is to fly in her fuck buddy for some drunken fetish sex?
WubWuver96: yep
Vinyl took another drink.
WubWuver96: So, can you make it?
The reply took a few moments to appear.
SnakeAndBake: Believe it or not, I have plans tomorrow. Sorry :(
Vinyl snorted at the appearance of the frowny face.
WubWuver96: Well, there goes my last good idea. BTW don’t use emoticons Like, ever. :[
SnakeAndBake: You sound like my niece.
Vinyl raised an eyebrow.
WubWuver96: Wait, you have a niece? That you talk to?
SnakeAndBake: I haven’t mentioned her before? In any case, yes I do. Well, she technically she’s my adopted niece. She’s a pony, actually. Very nice girl.
A few moments passed and then the chat message beeped again.
SnakeAndBake: Tasty too ;)
Vinyl shuddered.
WubWuver96: You have a problem.
SnakeAndBake: It’s only a problem if you admit it is ;)
WubWuver96: You’re abusing the winky face
SnakeAndBake: That’s not all I’m abusing ;)
WubWuver96: Please stop
SnakeAndBake: Now you REALLY sound like me niece ;)
Vinyl went for another gulp of apple-laced alcohol, only to find her stylish glass was empty.
WubWuver96: Hold up a minute. I need to get more booze.
SnakeAndBake: You’re drinking?
Vinyl snorted and typed a response.
WubWuver96: Of course I’m drinking. Anyway, I’ll just be a moment. Don’t eat anyone while I’m gone.
SnakeAndBake: No promises ;)
Vinyl shook her head and pushed herself away from the desk. She slid from her chair back onto all fours and quickly began the rather lengthy process of opening her door. Octavia had made some noises about how it was a fire hazard. Vinyl had replied that she could always just jump out her window. Octavia had then made some noises about how doing that would break all four of her legs. They had been drinking, so the rest of the conversation was fuzzy.
After an eternity, the last bolt slid out of its housing and Vinyl was able to open the door. At least a few inches, as the chain was still attached. Vinyl quickly closed the door, un-did the chain, and then opened the door again, fully this time. She quickly made her way down to the kitchen, where all the booze was kept. She had barely crossed over from the carpet of the living room to the tile of the kitchen when a voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Hello, Vinyl," Octavia said, slumped over the dining table. A half-filled bottle of cider stood a lonely vigil beside her head.
"Oh hey, I didn't know you were home," Vinyl said awkwardly.
"Hmm," was all Octavia said before turning her face against the surface of the table.
"Uh..." Vinyl nervously inched her way towards the booze-cabinet.
"She's not coming," Octavia said after a moment, not lifting her head.
"Who?" Vinyl asked as she opened the cabinet doors and began moving bottles around.
"There's a bottle of vodka in the back," Octavia said quickly, still not lifting her head.
"Oh, thanks," Vinyl quickly cleared a path to her prize, extracting the still unopened bottle from the cabinet's depths. "Now, who isn't coming?"
Octavia didn't answer right away. Instead, she reached up and poured herself another glass of cider, her head remaining firmly against the table. Setting the bottle down, she finally lifted her head to take a large gulp of the amber liquid and only then did she speak.
"Val," she said dejectedly, swirling the cider around in her glass. "I'm sure you're relieved."
Vinyl closed and pointedly locked the cabinet doors. "Why would I be relieved?"
Something close to a smirk crossed Octavia's face. "Because she scares the shit out of you."
"Pshew," Vinyl scoffed, opening up the fridge in search of apples. "That was only at first. She doesn't scare me anymore."
"Really?" Val asked, suddenly popping up from behind the fridge door.
Vinyl would never admit it, but she jumped. She also tossed her bottle into the air, but recovered quickly enough to catch it in her telekinetic grasp just an inch from the floor.
"For a moment there, I thought I might have lost my touch," Val said with a smile as she slithered over to the table.
Vinyl inspected the bottle and then turned her attention to Val. And then to the kitchen. And then back to Val.
"Where the hell were you hiding?"
"The ceiling," Octavia said matter-of-factly as she slid another glass of cider to Val.
Vinyl looked upwards for a moment before just shaking her head and going back to the fridge.
"So Val, what brings you to Ponyville?" Vinyl asked, pulling a fresh green apple from the fridge. "Come to terroize some kids, bend Octy over her cello?" Vinyl kicked the fridge door closed. "Sample the local teens?"
Val snorted. "I wish," she downed her drink in a single gulp. "You want one of these?"
"Naw, I don't like apples," Vinyl said as she took a bite out of her apple.
For a moment it looked like Val was going to argue the point, but she quickly shrugged it off. "Anyway, I'm actually here on business."
"Ah, 'business'," Vinyl smirked. "Like last time?"
Val laughed as Octavia refilled her glass. "Oh, nothing like last time. This time I'm just moving some cash around. Washing it through a few local businesses and such." She downed another drink. "I like to deliver the money in person. Show the launderers that I care about them and whatnot."
Vinyl shook her head, popping the lid off the vodka bottle. "If you don't want to tell me what you're doing you can just say so. You don't have to make up a whole story."
Val titled her head. "I wasn't-"
"Don't bother, Val," Octavia said, finishing her own drink. "Once Vinyl gets an idea in her head, it's difficult to persuade her to see things differently." Octavia started pouring another drink, but looked firmly at Vinyl as she spoke. "Like how she seems to be convinced I have some sort of infatuation with her."
"That's 'cause you do," Vinyl said as she levitated over a clean glass for her own drink.
"And what gave you that idea?" Octavia asked, starting to sound annoyed.
"Val told me," Vinyl said as she poured the vodka.
Octavia glanced over at Val, who nervously shrugged. "I thought it was obvious,"
Octavia snorted and took another swig of cider. "The only thing obvious about my feelings for Vinyl is that they are nonexistent. If she never said a word to me again for as long as the both of us lived, I would hardly notice."
Vinyl winced, but quickly covered it up by ducking down to put the vodka away. "Is that a request, Octy?"
"More like a wish," Octavia said gruffly. "It's Hearts and Hooves Day tomorrow. Now, since we are anything but romantically involved, I wouldn't expect you to have gotten me anything. However, since you seem so convinced otherwise, you could give me the gift of a little damn peace and quiet."
Vinyl flushed hotly and pulled her head from the cabinet. "Hey, what's your problem?"
"My problem, Vinyl?" Octavia said with venom. "My problem is the constant torture you subject me to. I can't practice my music, I can't look in shop windows, I can't walk down the street without you making some sort of comment on me and my sex life."
Vinyl flinched back a little, whatever anger she had been feeling quickly drying up in the face of Octavia's cold fury.
"And now," Octavia continued, all but slamming her glass back on the kitchen table. "I can't enjoy what little time I have with my friend without your interference."
"Um, Octavia..." Val started, only to be drown out by the cellist.
"So Vinyl, if it's not too much trouble, I'd like for you to kindly leave me the fuck alone."
Vinyl felt the bottom drop out of her stomach. It wasn't just what Octavia had said, it was the way she said it. With a calm, even tone, like she was ordering wine in restaurant. Vinyl deflated, her head drooping low as a soft sigh escaped her.
"Alright..." Vinyl said as she turned and walked out of the room. She was halfway up the stairs before she realized she had forgotten her apple. "Fuck," she muttered, too chicken to go back for it. She continued her mechanical march, taking gulps of her drink every few feet. The glass was empty by the time she had made it back to her room and closed the door.
Vinyl sat there, empty glass floating at an angle beside her, for she didn't know how long. In all their years, through all the needling and pranks, Octavia had never spoken like that. She had gotten upset before, of course, but the reasons always made sense. Vinyl had woken her up at three in the morning, Vinyl had knocked over a vase, Vinyl had accidentally taken both train tickets and forced Octavia to take a cab home all the way from Manehatten. Octavia was angry, but Vinyl could always fix it. With apologies, with money for the cab, with little gifts of candy and such.
But this didn't feel like something she could just fix. Maybe it was because of Vinyl's feelings. The attraction that, while probably being there for some time, was only being acknowledged now. Vinyl had wondered, in the past few weeks, about how it would feel if Octavia simply didn't return her affections. She never thought it would feel like this.
Nothing. She felt nothing. Maybe she was in shock. Emotional shock. Yeah, that was a thing, right?
Vinyl sighed and got up, placing her empty glass on her nightstand. She wiped her eyes, her hoof coming back dry. That was good. She always had been a messy crier.
Vinyl looked around her room, trying to puzzle out a way for her to kill time that was both quiet and comfortably numbing. And then the chat messenger chimed. Vinyl raised an eyebrow and peered at the screen.
SnakeAndBake: Hey, you okay?
Vinyl stared at the screen for a few moments, blinking slowly. The chat suddenly beeped again.
SnakeAndBake: Hello, are you still there?
Vinyl shook her head and sat down, magic lighting up over the keyboard.
WubWuver96: Yeah, I'm here.
SnakeAndBake: Cool, I was worried you'd passed out crying or something.
Vinyl snorted.
WubWuver96: I appreciate your concern
SnakeAndBake: So, you've obviously known Octavia a lot longer than I have. How often does she get in moods like that?
WubWuver96: I've never seen her like that before.
A thought suddenly occurred to Vinyl.
WubWuver96: Wait a minute, where are you?
SnakeAndBake: The kitchen.
WubWuver96: The kitchen in my house? With Octavia?
SnakeAndBake: Yep
WubWuver96: And you're chat messaging with me at the same time?
SnakeAndBake: I can multitask.
Vinyl frowned.
WubWuver96: Doesn't Octavia notice?
SnakeAndBake: I told her it's business related.
WubWuver96: Still kind of rude, don't you think?
SnakeAndBake: Hey, you're the one that wanted to talk to me.
Vinyl sighed and rubbed here eyes.
WubWuver96: Fine, just let me ask you something else. I thought you said you were too busy to come see Octavia tomorrow.
SnakeAndBake: I am. That's why I dropped by today. Honestly I didn't mean to be here this long, but Octavia did offer me a drink. And I never turn down free booze.
Vinyl stared at the computer screen for a few moments before typing out her next message.
WubWuver96: She really likes you, you know.
SnakeAndBake: She likes what I can do with my mouth ;)
WubWuver96: I'm being serious.
SnakeAndBake: As am I ;)
WubWuver96: Val, it's clear that Octavia cares about you. Are you sure you can't hang around here until tomorrow?
The return message took a little longer than normal.
SnakeAndBake: What are you doing?
WubWuver96: What do you mean?
SnakeAndBake: Are you actually trying to guilt me into staying here?
WubWuver96: I'm not
SnakeAndBake: Yes you fucking are. And why are you anyway? I thought you were the one in love with her.
WubWuver96: Octavia made it clear the way she feels about me. I just want her to be happy.
SnakeAndBake: And you think I'm going to make her happy? We're fuck buddies, nothing more.
WubWuver96: I think she might feel differently.
SnakeAndBake: Well, you do spend more time with her, so you would know. Fine, I'll talk to her about it.
WubWuver96: And what does that mean?
A full minute went by with no response.
WubWuver96: Hello?
Another minute slowly dragged by.
WubWuver96: Are you still there?
Vinyl heard a noise from somewhere else in the house. She cocked her head, straining her ears. More noise, voices, too muffled and distant to make out what they were saying. Minutes dragged by like cold honey before the voices faded away into nothingness.
The chat messenger wurbled.
SnakeAndBake: Well, it seems she agrees with me. Doesn't seem to happy about it, though.
Vinyl snorted.
WubWuver96: Are you happy?
SnakeAndBake: Kinda just sad right now. I think I'm going to go drink until the week's over. I'll message you later.
SnakeAndBake has logged off.
What?
"What?" Vinyl said out-loud, staring at the the indifferent computer screen.
A loud and sudden thud started Vinyl, making her jump right out of her seat. She froze, holding her breath and straining her ears. A moment later she heard a hiccup, followed by quiet, carpet muffled hoofsteps. She crept up to the door, pressing her ears against it. She heard someone muttering, catching 'fuck', 'cunt', and 'stupid' along with a few unsavory things.
A sharp yelp sounded, followed by the sounds of someone and their bottle crashing to the floor. Vinyl reacted without thinking, wrenching open the door. There, on the floor just outside her room, lay Octavia. Her face was pressed against the carpet while an open bottle of whiskey spilled its contents into the rug.
"Octavia?" Vinyl said hesitantly, bending down and extending a hoof to poke the cellist's side.
"What?" Octavia said flatly, not so much as turning her head.
"Uhhh..." Vinyl said dumbly before managing to ask: "Are you okay?"
Octavia turned her head to look at Vinyl, her eyes wet from tears and nose sticky with snot. "Do I look okay to you?" Octavia sat up, resting on her haunches as she picked up the half-empty whiskey bottle. She looked from the bottle to Vinyl and said, "Well?"
Vinyl blinked.
"Well what?"
"Well aren't you going to ridicule me?" Octavia shot an annoyed glare at the wet spot on the floor before turning her attention back on Vinyl. "Here I am. Too drunk to walk properly and too upset to stop drinking. I couldn't be an easier target if I was dressed as a clown with a dick in my mouth." She hiccuped. "What, do I no longer amuse you? I would have done this sooner if I had known it was this easy." The cellist sniffed and messy wiped her nose with the back of her hoof.
"Octavia, I..." Vinyl took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry?" Octavia said, almost like he didn't understand the word. "What do you mean you're sorry? And furthermore-" she hiccuped again "-why do you care to say you're sorry? Sorry for what? You didn't make Val leave, I did. I..." She grunted and wiped her eyes with the other side of her hoof. "What is your deal anyway? Do you hate me? Is that why you're always here?"
Vinyl quickly shook her head. "No, I don't hate you Octavia. I just..." Vinyl blew out a frustrated breath. "I don't like seeing you like this."
Octavia was quiet for a moment, seemingly mulling over Vinyl's words. She took a big gulp of whiskey straight from the bottle before speaking again.
"Do you want to fuck me?"
Vinyl's ear twitched.
Yes, Vinyl thought to herself, aloud she said: "What?"
"Do you-" Octavia pointed her tear and snot stained hoof at Vinyl "-want to fuck-" she stamped her hoof against the floor before pointing it back to herself "-me?"
Fuck yes,
"No," Vinyl said, shaking her head. “I mean... look-”
Octavia sighed. "Do I repulse you?"
No,
"Right now, yeah," Vinyl said with a slight, nervous smile.
Octavia snorted. "Fine,"
Octavia took another slug of her drink before shakily getting to her hooves. Vinyl started to move to help her, but a look from Octavia stopped her in her tracks. The cellist soon stood up straight and started stumbling down the hallway. Vinyl watched her the whole way, partly to see if Octavia fell and needed help, but mostly to see her bouncing ass.
Eventually, Octavia made it to the door to her bedroom, practically falling inside once she managed to get the door open. The door stood open on Octavia, laying there with her face against the floor and her ass in the air, for what felt like an eternity, tempting Vinyl. Maybe Octavia was leaving it open for just that purpose. But, after a time, Octavia moved and kicked the door closed, leaving Vinyl staring at an empty hallway.
Vinyl sighed and went back into her room, gently closing her door. She stood there, leaning against her door yet again, replaying the last few minutes over again in her head. Was Octavia's question an invitation or a challenge? If Vinyl had said yes, would Octavia had jumped her right then and there? Fucked her like an animal on the messy carpet?
Vinyl snorted, feeling her core start to heat up. She was staring to get a little too into analysis.
Vinyl was then pulled from her musings by, of all things, the chittering of the chat messenger. The DJ quirked an eyebrow and trotted over to the computer screen. Her previous conversation with Val was nowhere to be seen, pushed up beyond the top of the screen by new messages.
TwistAndShout: And she just kicked you out?
SnakeAndBake: She didn't really kick me out, I just got the vibe that I should leave. I don't want to talk about it anymore.
TwistAndShout: Alright, I'll drop it.
Vinyl sat down and lit her magic up over the keyboard. She was about to type out a message telling Val and whoever the other chatter was that she could see what they were writing. And then the next message popped up.
TwistAndShout: So you going to come see me?
SnakeAndBake: Maybe the day after tomorrow. I'm busy with work :(
TwistAndShout: First, stop using those. And second, why not tonight ;)
No. No, it couldn't be.
SnakeAndBake: Isn't it a school-night?
TwistAndShout: Yeah, so?
SnakeAndBake: Well, I drank what I would call an irresponsible amount of alcohol and I haven't eaten anything since breakfast. I'm drunk and starving. You really want me to come over now?
TwistAndShout: That's why I want you to come over. The starving part at least ;) I want to get you fed.
Fuck.
SnakeAndBake: I'm hungry enough to eat a horse right now. What could you have to feed me with
TwistAndShout: ;-3

Vinyl blinked, having typed and sent the message without thinking. The chat messenger quickly went off the rail as messages started flooding in.
TwistAndShout: what the fuck
SnakeAndBake: Vinyl?
TwistAndShout: FUck off, you fucking pervert!
SnakeAndBake: Twisty, language! Vinyl, how are you reading these?
TwistAndShout: What kind of a sic fuck are you
Vinyl typed as quickly as she could.
WubWuver96: You're still in our chat session
TwistAndShout: Go jack it somewhere else!
SnakeAndBake: TWISTY
TwistAndShout: What?
SnakeAndBake: Let her talk. Type. WHatever
TwistAndShout: her?
WubWuver96: I think youinvited her to our chat session sinstead of making a new one.
TwistAndShout: AGAIN?
SnakeAndBake: I talk to you in a minute. Sorry, Vinyl :(
SnakeAndBake has logged off.
Vinyl covered her eyes. This night was just too fucking weird.
And then the chat messenger chimed again.
TwistAndShout: Vinyl? As in Vinyl Scratch?
Vinyl sighed.
WubWuver96: yeah

Vinyl cleared the text box and typed a new message.

TwistAndShout: I mean, I figured you were into some freaky shit, being a DJ and all. But I never thought you were into that kind of freaky shit.
If Vinyl woke up in the morning, finding out that the last three or so hours had been one long, detailed, batshit insane nightmare, she could live with it.
TwistAndShout: Hey, you want to have a threesome?
But she'd settle for just the last three minutes.

Vinyl sighed and pushed herself away from the computer. She stood in the middle of her room for a moment, full of nervous energy, but unsure of what to do. Shaking herself, she opened her door and moved into the hallway. The aroma of whiskey hung heavily in the air, the spilled alcohol still seeping into the carpet. Vinyl chewed her lip, debating whether or not she should bother trying to clean it up. Her legs seemed to make the decision for her, carrying her away from the spill and towards the stairs.
It seemed that Octavia hadn't bothered to turn off any lights in her drunken march to her room, leaving much of the house brightly lit. Vinyl magically flipped light switches as she walked, the action almost automatic after so many years living with Octavia.
Vinyl soon made it to the kitchen, its lights still humming faintly. A pair of empty glasses sat beside a mostly empty bottle of cider, a few spilled drops littering the table. Vinyl ignored them, retrieving her already open bottle of vodka from the cabinet. She shut off the kitchen lights as she left, moving to the living room.
She plopped herself down on the couch and spent a minute searching for the remote before giving up and just using her magic to turn the TV on. Octavia often said that Vinyl should just find the remote instead of taking the easy way out. Vinyl often countered that Octavia was jealous of her horn. However, once the TV was on, Vinyl realized that she couldn't actually change the channel without the remote.
Vinyl sulked as a commercial played on the screen, unscrewing the lid on the vodka bottle and taking a swig. She could look for the remote, but wasn't in the mood to bother now. If some romantic drivel came on after the commercials, she would just shut the thing off and drink in silence.
Luckily, once the commercials had ceased their shilling, a suited presenter sitting on a throne made of bones appeared on screen.
"Good evening, one and all. If you're just tuning in, I suppose you expect us to play some sort of lovey dovey movie." The presenter, his fur light blue and his black mane slicked back, leaned forward. "Well then I'm afraid you've clicked on the wrong channel." He laughed and leaned back. "But, since tomorrow is Hearts and Hooves Day-" here he winked knowing to the camera "-I suppose I could play the most romantic movie I know. It's John Caprenter's The Thing. Enjoy,"
The presenter faded away and the movie faded in. Vinyl took another drink and settled into her seat. She supposed that, after what had already happened to her that evening, how bad could a scary movie be?
A hundred and nine minutes later, Vinyl stood up and stretched, working the kinks out of her body. As the movies credits rolled, Vinyl searched for the cap to the vodka bottle. It wasn't on the couch, nor the small table beside the couch where the bottle itself stood. The music playing over the credits in the background added what Vinyl would call unnecessary tension. Vinyl frowned and got down on the floor, looking beneath the couch.
It wasn't there either.
Vinyl stood up with a sigh and then shrugged to herself. Leaving the TV on for the moment, she took the bottle back into the kitchen. She flipped the lights on and then immediately flipped them back off, finding them too bright. She muttered under her breath, navigating the darkened kitchen by the glow of her horn. She placed the mostly full vodka bottle in the sink, reasoning that if it fell over there wouldn't be a mess.
Smirking at her own cleverness, Vinyl made her way back into the living room. She trotted over to the TV and was about to switch it off when something occurred to her. Since she had so foolishly decided to watch the movie without any lights on, she couldn't turn on any lights without going blind. Furthermore, she had so foolishly decided to watch a horror movie in the dark by herself, and every time she blinked something unpleasant flashed before her eyes. Further furthermore, this music was creeping her the fuck out, but if she turned off the TV, it would just be her and the darkness.
Vinyl shook her head, letting out an annoyed snort. She was a big, strong mare who doesn't afraid of anything, especially the dark. She hit the button on the television's side, shutting it off and ceasing it's cult classic score.
Smirking to herself, Vinyl turned and confidently headed towards the stairs. She stopped six steps later, having bumped her leg against a coffee table. Swearing, she slowly and cautiously limped towards the stairs. She ascended them one at a time, frowning as she continued to hear the credits music in her head.
Bom bom...de de... dit de.. Bom bom..de... dit...
Vinyl shook her head and kept climbing.
She soon reached the top of the stairs and started down the hall. She was just beginning to detect the faint aroma of whiskey when she heard a door suddenly open and close. Vinyl stopped dead in her tracks. She rubbed her eyes and strained her ears. She hadn't seen a flash of light so it couldn't have been Octavia's door. Unless she was trying to get to the hallway bathroom. But Octavia had a personal bathroom connected to her room, so-
Vinyl was pulled from her musings by the sharp sound of something sliding along wall. Visions of tentacles, not the good kind, sprung up in her head. She was a few heartbeats away from turning tail and running when she heard the sound of someone knocking on her door, followed closely by Octavia's voice.
"Vinyl, are you awake?" Octavia said hoarsely, accompanied by a cough.
"Octavia?" Vinyl said slowly, creeping a few steps closer and daring to light up her horn.
The soft blue glow of her magic illuminated Octavia. She looked disheveled, her mane was messy, her eyes bloodshot, and her mouth wet. She was leaned against the wall next to Vinyl's door, looking like she had collapsed next to it.
"I..." Octavia started, wincing as Vinyl neared and her hornlight grew brighter. Vinyl quickly dimmed her horn and sat on her haunches, waiting for Octavia to continue. "I threw up," Octavia said after a moment, sounding ashamed. "In my bed," she added, looking down at the floor.
"Oh, uh..." Vinyl trailed off, unsure of what to do with that information.
"I just need the comforter from your closet and I'll-" Octavia stopped, a soft belch escaping her lips. Vinyl would have laughed if she was in a more comical mood. She filed the belch away for later enjoyment as Octavia collected herself and continued. "I’ll just sleep on the couch and clean up in the-" another belch, but Octavia powered through it "-the morning."
Vinyl frowned and asked, "Did you clean yourself up?"
An almost annoyed look crossed Octavia's face. "Of course I-" she began indignantly, only to be interrupted by a third belch. "I did," she finished sheepishly.
Vinyl bit her lower lip, debating for a moment before shrugging internally and deciding to go for broke.
"Then you can just sleep with me tonight."
Octavia eyed her warily. "When you say sleep with you..."
Vinyl sighed. "I mean sleep in the same bed. Nothing lewd."
Octavia mulled it over. "Why not just give up you bed and sleep on the couch?"
"Because fuck sleeping on the couch." Vinyl replied honestly.
Octavia nodded tiredly and got to her hooves, using the wall as support. "Okay then Vinyl. As long as you promise your intentions are pure."
"Pure as Colombian cocaine," Vinyl said with a slight smirk as she opened her door and ushered Octavia inside.
Vinyl closed her door and started doing the locks. When she noticed Octavia throwing her an odd look, she shrugged and just did one of the deadbolts.
"Call me paranoid," Vinyl said as she pushed in the chair at her desk and kicked the almost overflowing trashcan under it as well, suddenly overcome with the urge to tidy up.
"You're paranoid," Octavia said, following Vinyl as she carved a path through the mess to her bed. "It's rather small," Octavia commented as Vinyl straightened out the blankets. "Are you sure we'll both fit?"
"That's what she-" Vinyl started before realizing that that made no sense and abandoning the joke. "We'll be fine. Just a little snug is all. And that's good. It's supposed to be cold tonight."
Octavia frowned but remained silent as Vinyl crawled beneath the covers. Vinyl moved up against the wall and wiggled around a little to get comfortable before beckoning Octavia to join her. For a moment, it looked as though Octavia was going to turn heel and leave, but she seemed to shrug and slid under the covers next to Vinyl.
The first thing that Vinyl noticed was her breath. Fresh and minty. Overpoweringly so. She must have used half a bottle of mouthwash. The second thing was just how big Octavia was. Not huge by any measure, but she was certainly noticeably larger than Vinyl. The DJ had never really noticed it before. The again, she had never been this close to Octavia before.
Octavia nervously cleared her throat.
"So, I suppose we should sleep back to back. If you're uncomfortable, that is."
Vinyl shook her head. "Nah, I'm fine. I mean, as long as you are."
A long, pregnant pause stretched between the two mares before Octavia broke it.
"Vinyl, about what I said earlier..."
"You mean when you yelled at me in the kitchen?"
Octavia winced.
"Or when you came on to me in the hallway?"
Octavia narrowed her eyes. "I did not come on to you."
Vinyl smirked. "You so did."
Octavia shook her head. "Regardless of whether or not I came onto you-"
"Which you did,"
"Vinyl!" Octavia said threateningly, before sighing and continuing. "I do apologize for my behavior. It was inexcusable."
Vinyl shrugged. "As long as you promise to protect me from the big scary monsters, I forgive you."
Octavia raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about, Vinyl?"
Vinyl snuggled her face against their shared pillow. "I watched a scary movie."
Octavia smirked. "Ah, and you want someone to snuggle with. At last, your true motive revealed."
"Ya got me," Vinyl giggled, feeling her eyelids growing heavy. "And Octavia?"
"Yes, Vinyl?"
"If you're going to blow chunks again, try to not do it on my bed. Or me," she added.
"I'll try me best," Octavia said with a yawn, laying her head down and closing her eyes. She was asleep almost immediately.
Vinyl watched her for a minute or two before drifting off herself.
Morning sunlight streamed in through the windows. Octavia was sitting on the couch, a placid expression on her face as she watched the television screen. Vinyl trotted up and sat on the opposite side of the couch, not want to invade Octavia's space. On screen, Kurt Russell was rustling up some dynamite and Molotov cocktails to fight aliens.
Vinyl rested her head on her hoof, looking at but not really seeing the screen. From the other side of the couch, she thought she heard Octavia call her name. She turned to look and Octavia patted the seat beside her. Vinyl didn't hesitate, crawling over and sitting up beside Octavia. The cellist flashed a smile and extended a foreleg along the couch's spine, just behind Vinyl's head.
Vinyl felt herself blush faintly and tried to focus on the movie. She had barely taken her eyes off of Octavia when she felt the cellist's hoof on her shoulder, pulling her close. Warm air was blown in her ear, making Vinyl turn red and try to squirm away. Octavia didn't let her, instead pulling Vinyl's head down into her lap.
Vinyl's face burned. Octavia's thighs were thick and soft. Vinyl dared to reach a hoof up to stroke them, trailing from just in front of her face down over Octavia's knees to the cellist's hooves. Octavia giggled, running her own hoof through Vinyl's mane. They sat there like that for a while, the movie playing faintly in the background.
Suddenly, a wet gurgle sounded from behind Vinyl's head.
"Hey Octy, you hungry?" Vinyl asked.
Octavia chuckled. "Starving actually,"
Vinyl felt Octavia lean over a second before the cellist's slimy tongue drug itself across her nape. Vinyl froze, her blood turning to ice as Octavia's breath rolled over her. It carried a sharp, coppery smell.
Blood.
"O-Octy..." Vinyl said, her voice trembling.
"Yes, Vinyl?" Octavia replied, her impossibly long tongue tangling itself in Vinyl's mane.
"What are you- ah," Vinyl's voice caught in her throat, eyes watering in pain as she felt Octavia's sharp teeth pierced her flesh.
"Are you scared, Vinyl?" Octavia asked in a mocking tone, continuing to prick the DJ's skin.
"Please, don't," Vinyl begged, muscles frozen by fear.
"Don't what?" Octavia asked as her tongue swiped over the fresh wounds she had made on Vinyl's neck, lapping up the blood. "Don't eat you?"
Vinyl shook her head.
"So," Octavia said slowly, drawing out her words. "You want me to eat you?"
"I- mmph!" Vinyl was cut off as Octavia's tentacle hoof shoved itself into her mouth.
"Shhh," Octavia shushed softly in Vinyl's ear as her many serpentine limbs encircled the Unicorn's body. "Lunch doesn't get to talk."
The tentacle forced itself deeper, stretching her jaw to its limit. It was covered in slime, making its journey down her throat at the very least smooth. She felt her skin stretch with its presence, felt it choking her. Her eyes began to roll back in her head as the lack of oxygen made her feel faint. And suddenly, the tentacle withdrew itself and she could breathe again. She went into a coughing fit, hacking up spit and slime.
"That's was fun, wan't it?" Octavia tittered, quickly shoving another snake-like appendage into Vinyl's mouth. "Don't bother answering. Remember the rule now,"
Vinyl let out a muffled shout of protest, which only seemed to amuse Octavia further.
"Mm, come here, Vinyl. I want to see your pretty face for the next part."
Clawed fingers turned Vinyl's head, forcing her to look at her assailant. Octavia loomed above her, lips pulled back to reveal a shark's smile. The rows of sharp teeth parted, allowing long, thick purple tongue to emerge.
"Oh, Vinyl," Octavia said sweetly, messily licking her lips. "I wish you could see yourself right now. You look good enough to eat." Octavia chuckled, biting her lower lip. "In fact, don't mind of I do."
Octavia's jaws split open and she lunged downward. Her fangs sunk into Vinyl's throat, biting clean through it and pulling away. Vinyl gagged, choking as drool and blood rained down on her from above. Octavia swallowed her mouthful and wiped her lips clean with her normal hoof. She leaned in close, smirking.
"Kiss me," she whispered, mashing her mouth against Vinyl's.
Vinyl woke with a start. Her hooves flew to her throat, finding whole and intact. A sigh of relief escaped her as she allowed herself to fall back onto her pillow. She rolled over, expecting to see the recently awoken face of a certain cellist.
But her bed was empty and Octavia was nowhere to be seen.
Vinyl pushed the covers off and moved to get out of bed, now noticing a bit of wetness between her thighs. An annoyed grunt escaped her throat. Had some part of her actually enjoyed the nightmare? Vinyl used part of a sheet to wipe away the evidence of her arousal. She shuddered, images of teeth, torture, and tentacles flashing through her head. It was sickening.
Vinyl got out of bed as more of the dream came back to her. She supposed the whole laying her head in Octavia's lap thing was kinda nice. She opened the curtains covering the window, only to quickly shut them again as the sun threatened to burn her eyes out. She her eyes, her mind conjuring up a slime covered tentacle because why the fuck wouldn't it? Although, if Vinyl was being honest with herself, deepthroating a tentacle was kinda hot.
Vinyl quickly moved to her desk and opened the top drawer, pulling her trademark sunglasses out of it and covering her eyes with them. Her vision protected, Vinyl made her way to her door. All of the latches, locks, and other locking mechanisms were undone. So, Octavia definitely left through the door and did not, say, leap out of the window, alien wings sprouting from her back to carry her to her next victim.
Vinyl opened the door, mentally bracing herself for the smell of spilled whiskey. Instead, a sharp, citrusy odor greeted her. She crept out into the hall and looked to where the stain had been. The carpet was still damp, but this time with some sort of cleaning solution.
Passing the wet spot, Vinyl crossed the length of the hall to Octavia's door. She reached up and knocked her hoof against it, only to have the door swing inward on the first strike. Again the smell of cleaning solution pervaded the air, hitting Vinyl almost like a solid wall. Covering her nose, she peered inside the darkened room. The bed was stripped bare, mattress stained with one cleaning solution or another. It looked like Octavia wasn't here either.
Nodding to herself, Vinyl closed the door before turning and making her way back down the hall and then down the stairs.
At the bottom, she hesitated. If she saw Octavia sitting on the couch watching the TV, she was going to run all the way back Canterlot. Vinyl took a deep breath and quickly trotted forward, turning to look into the living room.
Empty.
A relieved sigh escaped Vinyl's lips. She smirked and shook her head. She really needed to stop watching scary movies at night.
Vinyl turned and started to walk towards the kitchen when she detected a faint rumbling sound. She stopped and sat on her haunches, head cocked to the side. The rumble was steady and vaguely metallic. Washing machine. Vinyl shrugged and continued into the kitchen. The space was empty and her bottle of vodka still stood in the sink. Although now it had a little plastic bag over the top. The washing machine continued to rumble in the background.
Vinyl fidgeted for a moment. It was stupid.
And she knew it was stupid.
But the washing machine was in the basement. Vinyl hated going into the basement.
The basement was far smaller than the name would imply. Really, it was the size of most folk's laundry rooms and just as cluttered. The washer and dryer stood side by side, sandwiched up against a workbench and small storage rack. The walls lacked coverings, leaving the wooden beams bare. A single, corkscrew bulb hung from the ceiling, providing light.
Shaking herself, Vinyl remembered what a big, strong mare she was. She moved through the kitchen and opened the small side door tucked away in the corner. From there she descended the stairs, each step creaking a different note. That got her thinking. No one had made a song using sound samples of creaky stairs, had they? The right arrangement, a funky techno beat, maybe a few spoken word bits thrown in. If she could put something together in time for Nightmare Night-
"Vinyl?"
Octavia's voice pulled Vinyl from her musings. It was a good thing too, as Vinyl was just a few step away from walking in a wall. It wouldn't have been the first time.
"Hey there, Octy," Vinyl shot Octavia a grin like she hadn't almost walked into a wall again. "How you doin'?"
Octavia raised an eyebrow and gestured to the washing machine. "Laundering my sheets," She shot the rumbling machine a sideways look. "Although, I have been considering simply throwing them out and getting new ones. Maybe do that with my mattress as well." She looked back at Vinyl, who sat there with rapt attention. "I'll definitely have to restock out cleaning supplies as I think I- Vinyl, what are you doing?"
Vinyl blinked, surprised by the sudden question. "Wha?"
"Why are you, ah, just listening to me? You never do that."
Vinyl shrugged. "I listen to you all the time."
"If that were true you wouldn't keep losing lids to things you open."
Vinyl snorted.
Octavia smirked. "There's the Vinyl I know. But back on point, what are you doing?"
Vinyl shuffled her hooves. "I, uh, I wanted to talk to you. About last night,"
The smirk slipped from Octavia's lips and she looked down, shuffling her hooves. "Which part?"
Vinyl chewed her lip before answering. "Octavia, look I... I should start at the beginning. You remember when Val was here and she was text chatting on her phone?"
Octavia looked up. "How do you know about that?"
Vinyl took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I was the one she was chatting with."
Octavia's eyebrows shot up into her mane. "What?"
Vinyl raised a hoof, making calming gestures. Or trying to at least.
"It's not what you think,"
"And what do I think?" Octavia demanded.
"Uh... that I was fucking her?"
"Were you?"
Vinyl wrinkled her nose. "Ew, no. I mean, no offense to anypony that does," she added quickly.
Octavia shook her head. "Okay then, if you two weren't running around behind my back, what were you talking about?"
Vinyl shuffled her hooves nervously before answering. "You,"
"Me? What about me?"
"I was trying to figure out what sort of gift to get you,"
Octavia shook her head. "A gift to get me? Vinyl, my birthday isn't for months." She pursed her lips. "Unless of course, it wasn't going to be a birthday gift."
Vinyl nodded. "Yeah, it was supposed to be for Hearts and Hooves Day."
Octavia snorted. "Why on Celestia's green Equestria would you get me a-" Octavia suddenly stopped talking, as though she already knew the answer to her question. "How long?"
Vinyl tilted her head. "How long what?"
Octavia stamped her hoof. "Stop being coy. How long have you had feelings for me?"
Vinyl shrank back from Octavia's harsh tone. "I don't know."
The answer seemed to infuriate Octavia further. "What do you mean you don't-!"
Vinyl raised a surrendering hoof. "I don't know! I while, I guess. I just never really thought about it." Vinyl sighed. "I just... I always felt some something, but I thought it was just because you were pretty. And then I walked in on you and Val. And then in the morning she told me you mentioned me in your chats."
Octavia snorted and shook her head. "How does that explain anything?"
Vinyl shrugged. "I never thought you noticed me. To you, I thought was just the mare that paid rent and came home late all the time. And to me, you were just the mare that took my money and gave the occasional lecture. Make that frequent lecture." Vinyl added with a small smirk that quickly faded. "We became friends, sort of. But even then, I never gave us a second thought."
Octavia crossed her hooves in front of her. "So, you thought I wasn't interested, and you in turn didn't bother pursuing anything in that area."
"And then along came Val."
Octavia shook her head. "Vinyl, that was months ago. If what Val told you made you think I had a romantic interest in you, why didn't you say something?"
Vinyl chuckled. "Honestly? It was kinda too much fun to tease you to bother actually thinking about what it all meant."
"But then you thought about it?"
"Yeah, but I was worried that even if I did say something, you wouldn't take me seriously. So I thought that if I got you a gift, it would show you how I felt. But it had to be something special, so that you would know it wasn't a joke."
Octavia sat there silent a moment. "...So what did you get me?"
Vinyl blinked. "Huh?"
"You said you wanted to get me a special gift. I don’t mean to sound greedy but…. Well, I'm curious as to what you decided to get."
Vinyl winced. "I, uh, didn't get anything. I was asking Val what to get you, but she wasn't very helpful."
Octavia snorted and shook her head. "It's the thought that counts, Vinyl." Octavia paused and uncrossed and recrossed her hooves. "So, are you still interested?"
"In what?"
Octavia smirked and pointed a hoof at herself. "Me,"
"Oh," Vinyl blinked. "Yeah, I am."
Octavia's tail swished around behind her. "Well, are you going to kiss me or what?"
Vinyl's dream suddenly blossomed up in her mind's eye and she gagged.
Octavia flinched. "Vinyl, what-?"
"Sorry, sorry," Vinyl waved her hoof, coughing. "I, I had bad dream last night."
Octavia raised an eyebrow. "About kissing me?"
Vinyl smiled weakly. "It wasn't really about kissing you, but it did come up."
"Well, what was the dream about, then?"
"Uh..." Vinyl's stomach roiled threateningly. She swallowed hard. It was only a bad dream, and it was not going to stop her now. "You were sitting on the couch and when I sat down on the other side, you made me come sit next to you."
Octavia nodded. "Uh-huh,"
"And then you made me lay my head in your lap."
Octavia's right forehoof drew back a little. "Uh-huh,"
Vinyl swallowed and kept talking. "And then I heard your stomach growl. And you licked the back of my neck."
Octavia nodded, forehoof drawing up against her barrel.
Vinyl took a calming breath before continuing. "And then you started growing all these tentacles and sharp teeth. You, nibbled on my neck, made me bleed, actually." Vinyl's eyes unfocused as she recalled more of the nightmare. "I tried to tell you to stop, but you said, ah, 'Lunch doesn't get to talk.' And then I got a tentacle shoved down my throat and-" Vinyl's sight sharpened as she saw Octavia quiet brazenly rubbing her hoof between her legs. "What the fuck are you doing?"
"Oh!" Octavia exclaimed, pulling her hoof away. She blushed brightly, head sinking low. "S-sorry, Vinyl. It's just that, well, that all sounded rather... hot."
Vinyl scowled. "I didn't get to the part where I got my throat ripped out."
Octavia winced. "Oh, well that's something of a mood-killer."
"You're telling me," Vinyl said, looking away from Octavia.
"Well, for what it's worth, I'm sorry evil Octo-Tavia murdered you," Octavia said with a cheeky sort of grin. "And I'm sorry I was so into it. Up until the murder part, of course." Octavia sat up a little straighter. "But, uh, when does the kissing come in?"
Vinyl rolled her eyes and returned her gaze to Octavia. "She, you, whatever, kissed me after the improvised tracheotomy. And then I woke up."
Octavia shuffled her hooves for a moment before speaking. "Well, I can see why that might make you disinclined to give me a kiss." She shot Vinyl a sly look. "What if I promise not to tear your throat out?"
Vinyl smirked and shook her head. "Yeah, better safe than sorry right now, Octy."
Octavia stuck her tongue out. "Fine, be that way. I suppose I'll just finish up my laundry, down here, alone, unkissed..." Octavia trailed off in an overly dramatic tone, turning away and drawing a hoof to her forehead. "On Hearts and Hooves Day, too." she added with a knowing wink.
It was a stupid trick. And Vinyl knew it was a stupid trick. She took the bait anyway.
