Lesson 1: Obedience

Princess Luna sat on the balcony overlooking Canterlot and watched as the sun began its ascent into the sky.

Some might have called it dawn.

Luna called it teatime.

This was their ritual; the two sisters were only commonly awake in the early mornings and the late evenings, as one of the heavenly bodies they controlled was replaced by the other. And so, twice a day, they made time to meet over a shared interest, and that interest was tea.

Today's teatime, though, would be special.

"Good morning, sister," Luna replied. "You are well, I hope?"

"Just fine," Celestia said. Her horn glowed, and her porcelain tea set came to life. "How were your nightly duties?"

"Uneventful." Not entirely true; there had been a number of ponies who had needed her attention, and she'd spent a fair amount of time assessing Celestia's own dreamscape, as well. But nothing good would come of mentioning that now.

"Well, uneventful is good," she remarked.

"Things have been quite hectic in day court as of late," Celestia admitted. "The Solstice Summit is coming up. Foreign dignitaries will be arriving in three weeks, and there's so much to prepare..."

"Easy, sister," Luna said. "There will be time for worrying later."

"But how can you be at your best if you're so stressed that you can barely stand?" Luna inquired, sounding innocent enough.

"Let me make you some tea."

Luna's horn began to glow, and her tea set became animated. She kept the movements of the utensils rhythmic and slow, letting Celestia's eyes track their movements in time with the rotations of her spoon.

The scent of lavender suffused the air. Celestia's eyelids began to grow heavy.

Luna stood up from the table, letting her magic continue to animate the teacups' movements. "He's certainly no Grover," Luna said.

Celestia smiled. "That he isn't."

She took another sip of her tea. Her eyes settled on something curious.

"Is that a new necklace, Luna?" Celestia asked her, gesturing towards the thin chain that wrapped around her neck and disappeared beneath the neckline of her dress. "I don't think I've seen you wearing one before."

Luna smiled, her free hand drifting to her breast. "Oh, yes. But it's not anything worth concerning yourself with, dear sister."

Celestia blinked. Her mouth opened slightly, as if she was going to say something, but closed again.

She frowned. "I'm sorry, I seem to have lost the thread of conversation. What were we discussing?"

"The preparations for the Summit," Luna said. She fixed her sister with a worried look. "Are you okay, sister? You seem a bit off today."

"I..." Celestia's frown deepened. "I do feel a bit... strange..."

Celestia's hands had begun to shake. Abruptly, she set her teacup down and stood up, leaning against the table for balance.

"Sister!" Luna said, standing herself. "Are you alright?"

"Perhaps not," Celestia admitted.

"Let me take you back to your room, dear sister. Obviously you need a rest."

"I..." Celestia's expression clouded for a moment. "Yes, okay."

She smiled, weakly. "Thank you, Luna."

By the time they had reached the door to Celestia's bedchambers, Celestia's condition had improved, though not by much. She no longer needed Luna to support her, but she stuck close to her side just in case.

As they approached the room, the two door guards snapped to attention.

"My sister is feeling unwell," Luna told them. "I will be staying by her side tonight."

"Should we fetch the royal physician, your highness?" The guard on the left asked.

"No need; it is nothing serious. I will call for her should her services be required. Unless I do, no one is to disturb us."

"Yes, your highness."

The guards opened the door for them, and Luna led her sister inside.

The doors fell closed, and Celestia continued forwards. Luna, however, first made sure the doors were locked. Her horn flashed, and a set of wards applied themselves to the door and walls. Soundproofing charms—Luna didn't want the guards outside hearing. With another flash, a cloth bag appeared at her side; she set it aside for the moment.

Preparations complete, she turned around to see her sister, leaning against one of the high posts of her lavish bed. Celestia's room was large and spacious, with three great windows set into the back wall, allowing the light of the stars to softly illuminate the room.

"Feeling better, dear sister?" Luna asked.

Celestia took a deep breath.

"A little," she said. "I think it's passing, whatever it was..."

"That's wonderful to hear," Luna said. She placed her hand on Celestia's shoulder. The older sister looked up at the touch.

"Teatime, dear sister."

Celestia's eyes unfocused. Her posture relaxed, her expression fell blank and her breathing grew even.

Luna watched her sister carefully. She'd returned to the trance Luna had left her in, several days before—that was good, though somewhat unexpected. But had she retained her memories?

"What is obedience, sister?" she asked.

"No. I've been planning this since before my return. It was a very different plan at the time, of course; I hadn't factored little Twilight and her friends into the equation, but..."

Celestia's head jerked up at the mention of her pupil.

Luna set the bag down beside her sister's shaking form and squatted down in front of her. Reaching out, she cupped Celestia's chin, forced her to look at her.

"I'm going to turn you into my willing slave, Celestia," Luna declared. "And you're going to repay me for every minute of my banishment. You can understand that, can't you?"

"Come along, sister," she said, turning towards the door that lead to Celestia's private bath. "Let's get you cleaned up."

Lesson 3: Discipline

With a gasp, Celestia shot up in bed, clutching the covers to her chest. The cool night air of the castle caressed her sweat-soaked skin, and her breaths were heavy.

Normally, for her, this would indicate that she'd had a nightmare... but her forehead wasn't the only part of her that was wet.

Celestia blinked again, suspicion creeping into her eyes.

"You did something to me—"

Her eyes widened as the memories came flooding back. She leapt out of her seat, horn flaming like the sun, wings stretching out like a vengeful archangel.

"Who are you," Celestia growled, the question less of a question and more of a demand. "What have you done with Luna. And what have you done to me?"

Celestia's legs bent at the command, and she scowled at their betrayal. The flames went out. The wings folded. The look of unfathomable fury, however, remained the same.

"That's better," Luna said, once Celestia had taken her seat. "As for your questions: I am your sister, I haven't done anything with myself, and... well, I think you know what I've done to you." She grinned. "Quite vividly, if your dreams last night were anything to go by."

Celestia shook her head. "You're lying. Luna would never—"

"That's funny," Luna said. "I seem to recall you saying the exact same thing a thousand years ago."

Celestia's breath caught in her throat.

"But the past isn't what's important right now, sister," Luna said. Something teleported into her hands, but she kept it hidden from Celestia. "We're here to talk about your future. Do you remember what I told you, the last time I let you out of your cage?"

She said nothing.

"Being defiant, are we?" Luna said. "Well, savor it while you can."

She stood up, still keeping the thing in her hand concealed, and strode around the circumference of the table, trailing the fingers of her left hand around its edge. "I suppose I can say it again, for your benefit. Don't move, dear sister."

Once again, Celestia felt control over her limbs leave her.

"Trickery and deceit," Celestia said, a little too hurriedly. "You were controlling me."

"I was doing no such thing," Luna said. "Prevented you from escaping, perhaps, but I never commanded you to beg for my ministrations... or to enjoy them."

"No," she said. "I don't want night eternal. I just want you."

"But as I said before, we aren't here to talk about the past," Luna said, drawing back. "We're here to talk about your future."

"No, I'm... quite sure," Celestia said. "Perhaps it's just a preservative charm? To keep it from tarnishing."

"Twilight Sparkle!"

She jumped at the sudden utterance.

They both looked up. They'd made it to the steps up to the main entrance to the castle; standing framed between the doors was Princess Luna in a long, black dress, looking down at them with amusement.

"It is good to see you again, Twilight. It has been some time."

"Princess Luna!" Twilight smiled. "It's good to see you too. How have you been?"

"Just fine," Luna said. "Just fine. And you?"

"Oh, I've been alright. Busy, as always. Oh, but I'm excited to help!"

Luna smiled. "Oh, I'm thankful for it. Shall we get to work?"

"Teatime, dear sister."
