Kamen Rider Shifter
Episode 25: A Shift of Resolve
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAll over Canterlot, many people were still recovering after their near death experience the previous day.
Many were back home, though even more were in the hospital due to their close call causing complications with their health. They were all resting up, whilst people from outside the city had arrived to help with the clean up. And as they did, someone appeared on TV to talk to the entire city.
"People of Canterlot," the grey skinned, black haired, man announced. "I am Sombra. CEO of Dark Industries. We have seen the damage caused by the recent Mimic attacks and whilst we thank the Kamen Riders for everything they've done, it's time to start working to end this crisis ourselves.
Therefore, whilst my crew of construction workers and other employees work to undo all the damage done to our fair city, we will also be working on ways to stop the Mimics once and for all. The Kamen Riders are clearly a band-aid and not a cast. We must find a way to destroy those creatures once and for all."
He pointed at the screen. "But whilst we work to finally rid ourselves of this menace. We must not allow ourselves to hide away in fear. For the Mimics want us to waste our lives being scared of them. Let us show them that the only lives being wasted are theirs." The interview went on for a little while longer, Sombra answering several questions as he did. But most of the city were done listening and agreed with him wholeheartedly.
As Sombra returned to his office, his assistant rushed up beside him.
"Mr. Sombra. Everything you asked for has been confirmed. The reconstruction will begin on schedule. Also, the scientists we have working on new anti-Mimic weapons believe they might be close to a breakthrough. Although, they also say they can't be sure how effective it'll be without actually testing it on a Mimic."
"Yes. Unfortunately, it's not like we have any we can test them on." They reached his office and Sombra turned to the assistant. "Hold my calls. I have some personal matters to attend to."
"Of course." The assistant started writing on her clipboard, doing so causing the Mimic detector on her wrist to be shown.
Sombra stared at the device for a moment before looking away and opening the door, stepping inside and locking it behind him. He sighed and moved over to his desk, sitting behind it before taking out a device from the draw.
Placing it on the desk, he activated it and it created a holographic screen. As Sombra sat back, he waited for the screen to connect and it eventually did so. The screen soon showed the Mimic Lair, where Sheave, Greye, Maya, Frill and High were waiting.
"Report," he announced. "How goes finding this missing Mimic?"
"We're close to locating it," Greye replied. "We managed to send a drone into the city and scanned it. We've locked onto a Mimic Life Sign, but the drone has yet to locate its exact location."
"I see. Then forget the drone and head to the area yourself. I think it's time to show the world that their great hero isn't on their side anymore."
"Yes, master." Sheave and Greye nodded before Sombra hung up, the Mimic leader sighing and sitting back in his chair.
Though the Mimic's attempts to take the city for themselves had failed, it had allowed them to take Kamen Rider Shifter and make him one of their's. Soon, the remaining two Riders would hopefully fall. And once they did, the city and the world would be theirs for the taking.
"I wonder how many more surprises will be awaiting us before our mission is complete?"
In Corvyn's lab, everyone was just sitting around letting what had happened wash over them.
Memories of Flash losing his body, kept replaying in all of their heads. Because they couldn't stop the Mimics themselves, Flash had been forced to use the Maleficore and now he was trapped. The city's greatest hero was now its most dangerous enemy. And they had no idea if they could fix this.
"RAAAAAH!" Shining finally let his frustrations get the better of him, the Kamen Rider swinging a fist right into the side of a wall. "It's all my fault. I can't believe I let Flash do that."
"It's not your fault," Twilight told him. "I'm the one that let him go out and fight."
"It's my fault," Thorax stated. "Maya must have wanted to use that thing to have my Mimic take me over. If it wasn't for me, Flash never would have touched that thing."
"That's enough," Corvyn told everyone. He could tell the others were about to accept the blame themselves, which was something he couldn't have. "What happened to Flash was terrible, but sitting around blaming ourselves isn't going to fix it. We need to focus on the situation at hand. The Mimics aren't going to sit around doing nothing."
"But the Doom Pillars are destroyed," Rainbow pointed out to them. "Doesn't that mean their plans have been stopped?"
"One plan, maybe. But there's no telling what they'll do next. I doubt this is the first time their Doom Pillars have been destroyed. If they haven't got a backup plan, I can't think much of the other worlds that they managed to conquer."
"So what do we do?" Fluttershy asked, with Shining standing up first.
"It'll take time for them to get their backup plan in action. That means we need to use this chance to hit them hard. We have to try and locate where their base is. And if possible, free Flash from the Mimic that's controlling him." He turned to Corvyn. "You managed to free Flash from him once. Can't you do it again?"
"I don't know," Corvyn stated. "The Driver only works, if the human has a strong enough will to fight the Mimic's control over him. Now that that control has been returned to the Mimic, I don't know if the Driver will even work."
Everyone frowned, as Shining thought about the situation they found themselves in. He refused to let Flash remain a prisoner of the Mimics. "If we can't free Flash, we have no choice but to destroy him." This statement caused them all to gasp. "I refuse to let him stay a prisoner to the Mimics. We might lose Kamen Rider Shifter, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make."
Everyone hated the thought of losing Shifter. But before they could say anything else, an alarm went off and Corvyn rushed to the computer.
He brought up the Mimic tracking system and frowned. "Mimic signals. One is a normal Mimic and the other..." He frowned, "I'm picking up a Driver's signal with it." The others knew what that meant.
"Hang on Flash," Shining took out his Mimicore. "I'm coming to save you."
On the streets of Canterlot, everyone was once again enjoying life after almost losing them.
This included Fleur-De-Lis. The young girl smiling as she chose to spend the day shopping to celebrate not dying, something she had been doing a lot since the Mimics started attacking.
As she made her way down the street, she noticed she was close to her school and remembered when the Mimics had attacked that place a while back. They had all been in danger then, but the Kamen Riders had managed to save them. And once again, she had been saved from near death by them again.
However, as she turned a corner to head to her favourite little store, she suddenly found herself blinded by a bright light before two individuals stepped out of it.
As soon as they saw who it was, the people around her looked terrified and confused. For there, standing before them, was Kamen Rider Shifter. The Rider was in his Hyper Strike form, looking around before turning to the one next to him. And that was the confusion. Because one of the Mimics that had attacked them many times, was there with him.
The Mimic held out a device, as if he was looking for something.
Fleur thought fast and began to run, everyone else following suit as they tried to get away. And as Fleur turned a corner, she spotted a place she could hide. Her school. "YES!" She ran for it and was happy to find the gate wasn't locked. So she pushed them open and ran inside, as the Mimic and Rider kept searching for something.
Suddenly, another burst of light appeared in front of them and the pair saw Tri-Horn Morphic and Changeling appeared along with the Rainbooms. "Great," Greye sighed. "Just what we need."
"Flash!" Twilight cried, seeing nobody around. "You've got to fight. You know you're stronger than that Mimic."
"Please," Shifter stated. "Your friend is gone. He's trapped and he's not coming back."
"You got out!" Changeling stated. "Which means so can he."
"I got out because the Maleficore helped me fix the problem your friend Corvyn created. Now that I've taken my body back, nothing's going to make me lose it again. How many Mimic hosts have managed to free themselves without the help of an outside force?" None of them said anything. "That's right. None. Your friend is gone. Accept it."
Morphic growled, as his arm blasters extended. "Fine. If you won't release him, I'll save him the old fashioned way. Kamen Rider Shifter might be lost, but it's worth it to save Flash!" With that, he ran forward and charged at Shifter. The Rider saw this and quickly leapt out of the way, as Morphic fired his lasers at him.
At the same time, Changeling charged at Greye along with the girls. He slashed at the Mimic, but the monster quickly blocked the attacks with his fans and chuckled. But the other girls were able to use this distraction to attack themselves, Pinkie throwing cupcakes whilst Rarity fired the diamonds at him.
Greye leapt back and deflected the attacks, as Rainbow ran in and kicked him in the side. Twilight then grabbed the Mimic and threw him around, the peacock crying out as he almost crashed into the side of a building. But he was able to land on his feet and kick off whilst swinging his fans around.
The girls all leapt out of the way, as the energy blades flew at them. Changeling raised his swords and crossed them over, as the crescent slammed into him and exploded.
He was knocked staggering back, but he managed to hold on whilst Greye landed.
Shifter took out his Shift Striker and slotted the Strike Core inside, transforming it and using the rapier to stab at Morphic. But the Rider's strong armor protected him from the attack before he launched a punch into Shifter's chest, the lasers that fired slamming into him and blasting him backwards.
He grunted, but flipped around as the energy of the Hyper Core surged through him.
He landed and charged forward, the Hyper Core energy flowing into his weapon as he swung it in a Z-shape. This attack struck Morphic and knocked him backwards, the Rider staggering back but staying on his feet.
Under his suit, Shining could hardly believe he was actually fighting against Flash. But then he reminded himself that this wasn't Flash. Not anymore.
"RAAAAAAAAAAH!" He slammed his fist into the ground and unleashed the energy, which flew towards Shifter and exploded once it was under him. It blew him into the air, but the Rider managed to use his Hyper Strike form's power to protect himself before his wings formed and he flew down.
"HYAH!" He slammed his foot into Morphic and blasted him back, the others gasping at this as the Rider slammed into the ground with a grunt of pain.
Shifter landed and chuckled, whilst Greye used their distraction to slash at Changeling and knock him back. The Rainbooms rushed over to his side, as Greye unleashed his energy crescent. And at the last moment, Rarity managed to put up a shield that blocked it.
Morphic groaned as he picked himself up, as Shifter moved towards him. This wasn't going well.
Over in the school, Fleur was making her way down the halls whilst waiting for the commotion outside to calm down.
She sighed, wishing she had brought a book or something to do to pass the time. "Maybe the fight's over." But the thought of going out there and accidentally running into a Mimic terrified her, the teen deciding to just sit in the hallway and wait a little longer.
But just as she was getting comfortable, she suddenly heard a clattering sound coming from down the hall and she instantly leapt up. Turning towards the sound, she frowned as she called out.
"Is anyone there?" But nobody replied and she moved closer, grabbing a nearby broom that was leaning against a wall as she approached. "I'm warning you. I took...ballet when I was younger. That might not sound dangerous, but those kicks had a lot of power behind them." She heard movement and realised whatever made the noise was behind a corner and moving away.
She ran after it and spotted a door leading to the gym suddenly close.
She smiled at this, knowing all the other exits out of that building were locked. "Got you now." She followed the person to the door and kicked it open, holding the broom out as she tried to see who was there. But there wasn't anyone. The only thing she could see were a large pile of rubber mats used for gymnastics.
She slowly moved towards the tower and after taking a deep breath, leapt behind them
"Gotcha!" But then she saw what was behind the tower and screamed, the girl staggering back at the sight of a butterfly monster. She dropped the broom and accidentally tripped over it, screaming again as she fell to the ground.
Fleur suddenly remembered she wasn't wearing her Mimic detector, so this creature was very likely a Mimic. It stared at her, as it was kneeling down on the ground with its wings wrapped around it.
Fleur flinched, expecting to be attacked. But nothing happened. "What?" She opened her eyes and turned to the Mimic, seeing that it wasn't attempting to do anything. In fact. It appeared to be cowering itself. "Huh?" She stood up, as the Mimic flinched and tried to hide itself. "You're not going to attack me."
The Mimic shook its head, which surprised Fleur. Then, she noticed a hole in the Mimic's wing that looked like it had been burned into it.
"You're injured." Before she realised what was happening, she moved closer to take a closer look. The Mimic tried to move away, but Fleur got a good look and also noticed that the Mimic's leg and side were also damaged. "What happened to you?" But then she remembered what had happened the previous day. "Were you one of the Mimics the Riders fought?" The creature nodded. "I see."
Fleur stepped back, trying to figure out what to do in this situation. She knew she should call someone and try and get the Kamen Riders there. But seeing the Mimic in such a pathetic state made Fleur feel sorry for it.
"If you're not going to attack, is it okay if I sit down?" The Mimic stared at her for a moment, then slowly nodded. "Okay." She sat down and saw the injuries it had. "Can you talk? I know some Mimics can." The Mimic shook its head. "Okay. So is there a way to help you? I can't just leave those wounds. Is there a way I can help you heal?"
The Mimic stared at her for a moment, then pointed at her mouth and mimicked biting.
Fleur gulped, "you don't need to suck my blood, do you?" The Mimic shook its head. "So...you just need to eat something?" The Mimic nodded. "Can it be anything?" The Mimic shook its head again. "What do you need. Fats...fibre..." The Mimic shook again. "Protein." This time, it nodded and Fleur smiled. "I might have the perfect thing." She took off her backpack and opened it up, taking out several of her favourite snacks.
It was a kind of protein bar, which the Mimic stared at. She quickly took them out of the wrapper and handed them to the Mimic, who carefully took them before looking them over. After a few moments, its hands melted and absorbed the snacks.
"Wow. Guess that's one way to eat something." She watched as the Mimic seemed to be processing the food snack and slowly, the holes in her body began to close up. "Great. How are you feeling?" The Mimic actually gave her a smile, appearing to be happy. This made Fleur happy as well.
Shifter charged and dealt several punches and kicks to Morphic, who used some kick-boxing moves to guard himself against them before Shifter spun around and pointed his Shift Strike into his stomach.
He fired and the laser hit the Rider in the stomach, knocking him staggering back. And before Morphic could recover, Shifter replaced his Mimicore with his Pierce Core. As the weapon transformed, he pointed it at Morphic and fired. The projectiles flew towards Morphic and the Triceratops Rider could do nothing but brace himself, as they slammed into him and did serious damage. "Augh!"
Changeling and the girls saw this, but couldn't help him with Greye being so annoying.
The peacock swung his blades around and Applejack almost got her head cut off, making her cry out as she staggered back. Pinkie ducked down and only lost a few hairs, but Greye quickly spun around and kicked her in the chest. And as Twilight threw some rubble at him, he jumped up doing several somersaults before firing his energy blades.
"CLIMATIC SLASH!"
Changeling swung his swords through the air and unleashed the energy X, which struck Greye's attack in midair and made it explode. As it did, Greye landed whilst Shifter prepared to unleash his full force on Morphic.
But before he could, a portal opened up. One that Shifter and Greye realised was to their lair, which made the Rider frown. "You got lucky," he told Morphic before walking towards it.
"FLASH!" Morphic yelled, but the Rider didn't listen and moved through the portal. Greye followed behind him and the portal soon closed, leaving Morphic, Changeling and the girls confused.
"What just happened?" His fellow Rider asked. "Why'd they leave so suddenly?"
Morphic didn't know. "Honestly. I'm more concerned with why they were here in the first place. They weren't attacking anyone and they didn't have any Mimicreeps or another Mimic with them. So what were they doing here?"
The others realised he was right. What could they have been planning by coming here? And would they try again?
Back in the gym, Fleur found herself actually having fun with the Mimic.
Despite it not being able to speak, her expressions were enough to help Fleur understand what she was feeling. And currently, they were working on figuring out what its name was. "Ra?" The Mimic frowned, "Ba?" She still frowned, "Da?" The Mimic raised an eyebrow. "I'm trying. "What about Ka?" This time, the Mimic smiled. "So it starts with Ka?" It nodded. "Alright. Ka...Ka?" The Mimic sighed.
The two were at this for a while, Fleur saying random sounds until she finally got the one that was in the Mimic's name.
Eventually, she managed to get most of it. "Katar...Hu...Door?" The Mimic, now named Katar, shook her head. "Does it start with a D?" It nodded its head. "Okay...Katar-Hu-Duck? Katar-Hu-Den? Katar-Hu-Dot?" It was then that she thought of something and her eyes went wide. "No way. Your name isn't Katar-Hu-Die, is it?" The Mimic smiled and nodded. "No way. Did you pick your animal form because of that?"
Katar tilted her head, clearly not understanding.
"So it's just a coincidence?" Fleur laughed at this situation. "Seriously." Katar was still confused. "Hu-Die. Hudie. It means butterfly in another language. What were the odds you'd copy an animal that had the same name you have." She smiled, as Katar smiled as well.
They continued to sit there, Fleur wondering about so many things. "Can I ask you something?" Katar seemed puzzled, but nodded. "Why are the Mimics attacking us? What could you possibly hope to gain from wiping us out?" Katar frowned, looking down with shame on her face. "The Riders said you've done this to other worlds. But why? Is it just something you like doing? Or do you have some bigger goal in mind?"
Katar didn't respond in any way, Fleur seeing her hands shuffling nervously in her lap.
"Do you...even know why you're attacking?" Katar shook her head. "But you were still a part of the attack yesterday. You helped the Mimics try to kill everyone in the city. Even me." Fleur didn't know if Mimics could cry. But she was certain if they could, Katar would be doing it right now. "You Mimics are amazing. But you're wasting all that potential on a worthless cause like genocide."
Katar looked heartbroken and Fleur decided to change the subject. Maybe, in time, Katar and the other Mimics would realise how pointless their attacks were.
In the Mimic Lair, Sheave and Greye were sitting around in the lab.
Both had been ordered to wait there, both wondering what the heck was going on? But they got their answer, when the doors of the lab opened and someone stepped inside. Sombra, or Tie as he was truly known, stared them down as he moved closer.
"Master," they both bowed, "you're here. May we ask why you summoned us away from the battle?" Shifter raised his head. "We were winning. Morphic and Changeling didn't stand a chance."
"Maybe," Sombra stated. "But you weren't in the right form to defeat them." This confused him, as Sombra held out his hand. "The Maleficore." Sheave quickly reached into his coat pocket and took out the device, Sombra taking it and holding his hand over it.
They watched, as a red energy flew out of his hand and into the device. "Master?"
"This device is what allowed you to escape from the Driver's hold." He turned back to them. "But there's still much about that device we don't know about. There's a chance its functions could return. Having you return to the Rider's side is the last thing we need."
"You don't have to worry," Sheave told him before tapping his head. "Sentry is safely locked away in here. He's not getting out again. Ever." In that moment, he found himself back in his mind. The white void continued to be a vast emptiness, as Sheave looked behind himself.
There, kneeling on the ground, amber trapping everything but his head and upper chest, was Flash. The teen glared at Sheave, as he tried to pull himself free. But he couldn't. All he could do was remain stuck there unable to do anything whilst his mental roommate destroyed his good name.
"Even so," Sheave was pulled back out into the real world. "I don't want to risk any complications." he held the device out to him. "From now on. Use this device."
"Yes, Master." He took the Maleficore and felt its negative energy flowing through him. "But if I try and use this device with the Hyper Strike Core, it could end up overloading me or the Driver."
"Good point. Best not to use that Hyper Strike device then. If you must, use it in the Shift Striker. But from now on, only use the Maleficore and the other Cores you have."
"As you command," Sheave bowed. Sombra then turned to Greye.
"Were you able to locate the Mimic?" Greye frowned, as he took out the scanner device before projecting a map of the area they had been in.
"From what I could scan before those fools showed up. The Mimic's life sign was coming from this direction." He pointed at a section of the map and Sheave hummed, frowning as he tapped into his host's memories.
"Crystal Prep." The other two turned to him. "It's a large building in that area that shouldn't have anyone within it right now. So it's the perfect place for the Mimic to hide without drawing any attention to itself. Since it's probably injured, somewhere like that would be the optimal location to rest and recover."
"He's right," Sombra nodded. "Go to this place and locate the Mimic. If it's injuries are salvageable, save it. If not, put it out of its misery."
"Yes master," they nodded before Sheave asked. "What if it's not injured?" The two gave him a curious look. "What if it's just hiding because it was scared of fighting against the Riders? After seeing so many Mimics get destroyed, it's possible it's terrified it'll have the same fate."
"If it refuses to fight, then it is of no use to us." Sombra turned to leave, "destroy it."
At the same time, Shining, Thorax and the Rainbooms were back in Corvyn's lab.
They were all licking their wounds, upset that they hadn't been able to stop Shifter or Greye. And the fight against Shifter had been seriously painful, given who he was under that suit. "Damn it!" Shining slammed his fist into a table. "I can't believe we couldn't stop him."
"If only Greye hadn't been there," Thorax sighed in annoyance. "We might have been able to beat him if it was all of us against him."
"Maybe," Twilight clutched her arm and looked down. "But honestly, I don't know. I know Flash is trapped, but the thought of actually destroying him feels like a mistake." The others turned to her. "I wish we knew what Flash was thinking."
"You want to know what Flash was thinking?" Sunset asked.
"Yes. I know he wants to be free, but think about how Flash would feel if we destroyed Shifter just to free him. Whilst he's still in Mimic form, there's a chance we could free him and return Shifter back to our side. But if we destroy him, we'll lose Shifter forever."
"And you think keeping Kamen Rider Shifter is more important than saving Flash?" Rainbow looked angry at this, glaring at Twilight as she stood up and glared back.
"It might be more important to Flash!" Her voice echoed through the lab, making Rainbow pull back. "If Flash wants to be free, Kamen Rider be damned, then I'll do whatever it takes to do that. But what if Flash wants to still be a Rider? If we free him and he loses his abilities, think about how badly he'll feel."
"Won't he feel relieved?" Fluttershy asked. "I know I'd be happy to be free."
"That doesn't sound like Flash," Twilight told them. "He loved being a Kamen Rider. Even after learning he was a Mimic, he still loved being able to help people in need. He told me himself."
The previous day.
As they drove through the desert, Twilight glanced up at Flash. And as he happened to look back, he noticed her staring at him. "What's up?" Twilight frowned, looking down for a moment. "If you're feeling motion sick, try to aim it away from me."
"I'm not sick. I'm just...what if we can't find this thing? What if we look and it's not there? What are you going to do then?"
Flash frowned as he looked forward. "I'm not sure." Twilight stayed silent, waiting and hoping he was okay. "If we can't find one, then I might not be able to become Shifter again. It'd be too dangerous to try it."
"You mean you'd stop being a Kamen Rider?" Flash frowned. "Would you let Shining destroy you? Free you're real body?"
"I...I don't know. I don't want that. Not while the Mimics are still a threat." He kept looking ahead. "Ever since I got these abilities, I've been in one dangerous situation after another. But even though I was scared, I was kind of happy." Twilight was surprised by this. "For the longest time, I've always been a bystander. Unable to do anything except watch as you and the rest of the girls saved the day."
"It's not like we had much of a choice," Twilight told him.
"Even so, it was frustrating. Not being able to do anything except watch and pray you managed to win. That's why, when I got these powers, I felt almost happy. That I could finally step into the fray and do something for once. And most of all, I could help people in need." He smiled. "When your brother revealed he was Morphic to me, I feared he'd tell me to stop since this wasn't kids stuff."
"That sounds like something Shining would do."
"Yeah. But instead, he put his trust in me and I don't want to break that trust. I'm not just going to leave him and Thorax to do this without me. Even if I can't find this core, I'll find another way to stop the Maleficore. Because Kamen Rider Shifter isn't just an act I'm playing for fun. It's just as much who I am as Flash Sentry."
Twilight smiled, nodding in agreement.
Everyone stared at her in amazement, having heard how Flash felt.
"I...I hadn't thought about it like that," Shining frowned. "I didn't realise he held my trust in such high regard." He sighed, feeling sorry for Flash more than ever.
"So what do we do?" Pinkie asked, but nobody had any idea. It was at that moment, Corvyn moved over to them with a tablet device.
"We start by finding what the Mimics were looking for. They were clearly after something in that area. And if they want it, it can't be good for us." They nodded, as Corvyn handed Twilight the tablet. "I have a theory. This is a more powerful scanner. It should be able to locate any nearby Mimic in monster form."
"You think they're looking for a Mimic?" Thorax asked.
"It's possible," Corvyn nodded. "Or it could be something else. We won't know until we check. So I want you guys to go back to the area where the fight took place. It's possible the Mimics will soon return to that spot as well, so keep your guard up."
"Okay," Twilight nodded. "How's it coming with the vault?" She couldn't help but hope that if they could get the Beatucore and give it to Shifter, then maybe it could free Flash.
"Slow," he explained. "This kind of vault was famous for being impossible to crack. Only someone whose DNA is in its database can open it. And since we don't have anyone with that, I'm forced to go slow and steady. If I attempt to force it open, the fail safe could destroy what's inside." The others nodded, understanding.
Shining and Thorax took out their Mimicores and summoned their Driver, the pair transforming as the portal opened up and everyone stepped through it. When they did, they found themselves alone in a back alley. Pharynx was the only one who stayed behind, knowing he would only get in the way if a fight broke out.
As soon as they were through the portal, the scanner went off and Twilight realised where it was leading them. "No way." She ran towards Crystal Prep, The Riders and her friends all looking shocked by it as well. But they kept going and managed to get into the school, unaware that Greye and Shifter had also arrived.
Sheave stared up at the building, as he and Greye stood on the other side from where the others were.
"Are you sure the Mimic's in there?" He asked Greye, who nodded before moving towards the building and throwing the doors open. As he did, he took his monster from and summoned his twin fans. Sheave followed, summoning his Driver as he did so.
"Now, where are you?"
Back in the gym, Fleur and Katar heard the commotion coming from within the school.
Katar looked terrified, whilst Fleur worried what might happen if someone saw the Mimic. She had to find a way to get her out. But how? "Let's get you to the roof," she told the Mimic. "Nobody goes up there and if they do, you can fly off and find another place to hide."
Katar nodded and they both headed for the door. But before they could, it flew open and someone ran in. Morphic.
The Rider saw the Mimic and Fleur, as Changeling ran in and saw them as well. "Get away from her!" Changeling rushed forward, swords in hand as the Rainbooms arrived. But just as he was about to slash at Katar, Fleur leapt between them.
"WAIT!" Changeling barely managed to pull himself back before he cut Fleur in half. "Don't hurt her!"
"What are you doing?" Changeling asked, as Morphic raised his weapons to fire as well. "That's a Mimic. Why are you protecting it?"
"Fleur?" Twilight asked, recognising the girl in question. Everyone remembered Fleur as one of the girls from the Friendship Games. They hadn't interacted with her, though Rarity had spoken fashion to her on occasion when the girl was shopping in a boutique Rarity worked at. "What are you doing? Get away from that thing."
"She's not a threat. Katar's just scared."
"Katar?" Morphic asked. "If it can speak, it's taken someone hostage and-"
"She can't speak. I figured out her name. Please, don't hurt her. She doesn't want to hurt anyone." The Riders clearly weren't sure about this, whilst the Rainbooms stood wondering what the heck they should do.
"If she doesn't want to hurt people," Morphic started. "Would she be willing to help us fight against the other Mimics? Even if she can't talk, having a Mimic to get info from could be useful." Fleur frowned, fearing Katar might get turned into a lap rat.
But before she could say anything, the other doors were suddenly blasted open.
Everyone jumped, as Greye and Shifter stepped into the room. "Ah," Greye smiled at them, "there you are." Katar stepped back in fear, as Sheave spoke up.
"Be a good little Mimic and capture one of those girls for us. Possibly the annoying one with frizzy hair. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard." Pinkie gasped, unable to believe Flash had said that. But Katar didn't do anything, as Morphic and Changeling moved in front of the others.
"Stay back!" Morphic ordered, ready to blast them with his gauntlets.
Sheave frowned before summoning his Driver. "You really wanna do this, after what happened last time?" He took out both his Mimicore and the Maleficore, slotting on into his Driver whilst activating the other.
"MALEFIC STRIKE!"
Everyone watched him open the draw and place the Mimicore within, as he struck a completely different pose to the one Flash always struck. "Henshin!" With that, his arms moved in tandem. One pushed the draw closed whilst the other flipped the Maleficore's screen down over the Driver's glass window.
"MIMIC! LIGHTNING BUG!" Sheave crossed his arms, as the slime flew out. And strangely, it was now a black inky colour. It quickly formed a black cocoon and when it broke apart, Shifter stood there as the black armor slammed into him. "Darkness, engulfs all that stands within it. Unlimited power awakens in the shadows!"
Fleur's eyes went wide, as she now knew who Kamen Rider Shifter was. And as the Rider took out his Shift Striker, placing the Blade Core within, the other two got ready for a fight.
"Get her out of here!" Morphic told the girls, who nodded with Rainbow rushing over to grab Fleur's arm. Morphic then ran forward and attempted to throw a punch towards Greye, but the peacock was able to avoid the attack whilst Shifter attacked Changeling.
The Riders clashed swords and Changeling quickly found himself being overwhelmed, Shifter's Malefic power boosting him far beyond what Changeling could hope to face.
As the fight went on, the girls tried to pull Fleur along with them. "Come on!" Sunset told her. "Let's get out of here." Fleur frowned, as she turned to Katar and saw her drifting back towards the corner in terror.
"I'm not leaving without her."
"Seriously?" Rainbow asked, as Fleur rushed over to the Mimic. "I get wanting info, but she's not worth you getting hurt."
"This isn't about information," Fleur told her. "I just don't want her here." She had a feeling that if Katar stayed, she would be in danger no matter what side won the fight. "Come on." She told her, "we have to go." Katar did nothing, instead watching as as Morphic threw a punch towards Greye as the Mimic deflected it with his fan.
Greye then spun around and swung his foot into Morphic, knocking him staggering backwards. After that, he turned towards the Mimic and glared. "What are you waiting for? You need a host, so grab her already."
Everyone began to worry and before Fleur or even Katar could do anything, Rarity's diamond shield appeared between them.
Rarity moved it backward and pushed Fleur back towards them, forcing her away from the Mimic. "What are you doing?" She cried, as Katar looked conflicted.
"I'm sorry," Rarity told her. "But we can't risk that thing choosing to follow its orders and capturing you."
Fleur frowned. She was worried about Katar choosing to do as she was told, but she also knew simply deciding she couldn't be trusted wasn't right. Whilst trust needed to be earned, it also needed the opportunity to all it to be earned.
"No!" Fleur jumped out from behind the shield and glared at the girls. "I know the Mimics have done terrible things. But I refuse to believe an entire race is evil." As Morphic got up and stopped Greye from doing anything, Fleur moved towards Katar. "I know you don't want to fight. And that you don't want to hurt anybody. So please, come with us."
Katar just stared at her, as the Rider's kept fighting.
Shifter's battle against Changeling wasn't as even as Greye and Morphic's, the Mantis Rider dodging Shifter's slash before spinning around and trying to kick him in the head. But Shifter was faster and actually caught the foot, clutching it tightly as he swung his own up to slam into Changeling's stomach.
The impact caused Changeling to gasp and hop off his other leg, making him fall to the ground as Shifter spun and swung him around.
"WOW!" Changeling cried, as he was thrown into the side of a wall. Shifter then chuckled and followed him, as Morphic managed to punch Greye in the chest.
The lasers fired and knocked Greye backwards, making him cry out as he almost slammed into the back wall. And as Changeling forced himself back to his feet Greye growled whilst Fleur stood close to Katar with a hand offered out to her.
"Raaaah!" Greye yelled, as he unleashed an energy blast that shot towards Morphic.
The Rider raised one of his gauntlets and used it to block the energy, which dug into him and threatened to knock him back. But with all his strength, he managed to swing his arm around and deflect the energy. But as soon as the energy flew off, he realised his mistake as Fleur was directly in its path.
"NOOOOO!" He yelled, as the girl froze like a deer in the headlights. His eyes shifted towards Rainbow or Rarity, hoping one of them would do something. But both girls hadn't noticed what was going to happen yet. And by the time they did, it would be too late.
However, someone did notice and managed to get to Fleur at the last moment.
Katar grabbed the girl and leapt into the air, as the energy attack flew under them and destroyed part of the wall. Fleur sighed in relief, whilst everyone else was shocked. "It saved her," Twilight stated as Katar landed beside them and released Fleur.
The girl smiled at her, "thank you." Katar nodded, only to flinch when she heard Greye let out a roar.
"TRAITOR!" He launched another energy crescent at them and it caused the ground to explode, knocking them all flying into the walls of the gym. Morphic rushed in to try and deal with him, but Greye managed to dodge the punch before running at Katar.
Weapon in hand, he leapt up and raised his fan high before descending.
"KATAR!" Fleur leapt to her feet and ran forward, moving without thinking. And before anyone could stop her, she jumped in front the Mimic right as Greye slashed his fan downwards. And moments later, her scream of agony filled the room and everyone saw her front get cut open.
"FLEUR!" Twilight cried, as Greye leapt back and they saw her fall to the ground.
"Stupid girl," he stated. But before he could attack again, Morphic managed to grab him from behind and throw him across the room. The Mimic slammed into the ground near Shifter and Changeling, the two still fighting with Changeling barely holding on.
As the Riders fought, the girls rushed to Fleur's side and were horrified to see the terrible gash going down her body. "What do we do?" Rainbow asked, as Fluttershy tried to use the little medical knowledge she had to do something.
"The wound's deep. She's going to bleed out."
"Maybe Corvyn can save her?" Sunset suggested, but Fluttershy shook her head.
"If we move her, that's just going to make her lose more blood. I...I don't know what to do." Everyone began to panic, as Fleur panted and more blood seeped out of her destroyed clothes. But then, one of them acted.
Katar's arms melted and as she thrust them forward, they morphed into whips that pushed the girls away from Fleur. "What are you doin'?" Applejack asked, only for Katar to suddenly slam her arms down onto Fleur's chest. And in doing so, they started covering her entire body and everyone realised what she was doing.
"STOP!" Rainbow cried, as Pinkie was about to throw a cupcake at her. But Twilight stopped them.
"Wait! She's saving her!" Everyone looked shocked by this. "If she cocoons Fleur, she'll be in a state of stasis. We can move her to Corvyn's lab without her dying." Everyone caught on, as Greye and the Riders also realised what she was doing.
"STOP!" Shifter yelled, switching his Shift Striker to Pierce Form and firing. But Rarity was able to put up a shield that protected them, though the impact caused it to crack.
Changeling kicked his weapon out of Shifter's hand and threw a punch his way, knocking him back whilst Morphic blasted Greye into a wall. This gave Katar the time she needed to complete the process.
Fleur was soon completely sealed within the cocoon and as she did, Katar's body began to shift and change. Within moments, a perfect copy of Fleur stood before them as her arms detached from the cocoon. Her eyes were closed and she just stood there, as everyone stared at her.
And when finally she opened her eyes, she seemed confused as she looked around at them. "What? What just happened?" Everyone looked confused, as Katar looked down at her chest. "I...I was dying."
"What are you talking about?" Pinkie asked, as the Mimic spotted the cocoon on the ground and saw who was in it.
"What?" She staggered back, hitting the wall whilst everyone looked confused. "What's going on right now? Why am I...down there?"
"Katar?" Twilight decided to use the Mimic's name, "are you okay?" Now the Mimic looked even more confused.
"Katar? I'm Fleur." This statement made everyone look shocked, each one staring down at the cocoon. Had Katar convinced herself she was Fleur? Was she pretending to try and trick them? Or had Fleur somehow gained control of the Mimic body on her own? All these questions filled their heads, as the fight continued to rage on.
Author's Note
Well that was certainly a surprising turn of events. How many of you were expecting Fleur to suddenly have an important role? I tried to show her skills off in the movie as a bit of foreshadowing, but I might have left it a bit ambiguous. So, what do you think of how things turned out?
