Episode 34: One Side of a Coin

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Within the training hall of the police precinct, sounds of battle could be heard filling it.

Those sounds were coming from Kamen Riders Shifter and Morphic, the pair in their newest forms and fighting it out. And despite Morphic having more varied abilities in his new form, Sheave was able to keep up with him and slashed at him with his buster sword Shift Striker.

Off to the side, Thorax, Fleur and the Rainbooms were watching.

"They've really been training hard," Sunset stated.

"Can you blame them?" Twilight asked. "They both want to master their new powers. Shining needs to grow strong enough to save Cadance and Flash wants to be able to protect everything and everyone he cares about. And with what's about to happen, they'll need all the strength they can get."

Earlier that day.

Corvyn and the Riders were in Hard's office, as he held up an envelope. "It took some convincing, but I was able to get the judge to issue a warrant to search Dark Industries. But it came with a lot of stipulations. If we don't find something concrete, we'll all be in serious hot water."

"There has to be something there," Flash stated. "Sombra's the leader of the Mimics. He's bound to have something at that place that'll link him to the Mimics. Heck, he might even have Sombra's cocoon there."

"I'm still having a hard time believing that Sombra's a Mimic," Hard told him. "If he is, how come the Mimic detectors didn't go off whenever we're around him."

"He captured Flash once and was able to study his Driver," Corvyn stated. "He was also able to recreate a Driver for Gule. It's possible he also created a way to shield himself from Mimic detectors, the same way I made the Drivers able to shield the Riders from being detected." He held something up. Some kind of scanner. "Luckily, I've made this to detect Mimics, even if they are being shielded."

Hard still didn't look convinced, as Shining stepped forward. "Even if we can't find the Mimics themselves, there's bound to be something there. The Mimics had to be getting materials and components for a bunch of their machines somewhere. We might find a paper trail showing Dark Industries giving them everything they need to make them."

"That's possible," Hard nodded. "But again, we need genuine proof. If not, we won't be able to do anything."

"Then we'll find it," Shining promised. "No matter what." The others nodded, knowing this was their best bet to strike a blow that the Mimics couldn't come back from.

But before they could come up with a plan, Hard got a call and asked for a moment. "Hello?" He answered, waiting for the person on the other line to speak. And as they did, his eyes went wide. "What? Are you sure?" The person nodded. "Alright. Keep me informed." He hung up and turned to the Riders. "That was Canterlot Hospital. Neighsay has broken out of his cocoon."

That statement shocked them all, as Flash turned to Shining. "That means Frill's been..."

"Destroyed," Shining nodded. "He was in bad shape when Lorem saved him. But he should have survived. Mimics have taken that much damage and survived." He frowned, "what happened?"

Now.

Since then, the Riders had been working hard getting ready for the fight.

As Flash and Shining practised, Fleur was in an almost meditative state in order to commune with Katar and come up with a fighting strategy.

Meanwhile, Thorax watched as all the other Riders worked hard. And ever since Morphic's battle against Frill and Lorem, he was the only Rider not working with his Mimic instead of against. And that thought made Thorax uneasy, for some reason.

A little while later, Thorax stepped into Corvyn's lab and found himself doing some research on the Mimic Spawns they had been able to obtain.

With More having turned against his own kind, that made three Mimics that were doing what no other Mimic had ever done before. "Something about this latest generation of Mimics is different from the old ones. Giving them the ability to ask what the point of their attacks are."

"Corvyn?" The man jumped and turned to Thorax, "sorry. You okay?"

"I'm fine," Corvyn pushed the spawn jar away. "Did you need something?"

Thorax thought for a moment before nodding. "I was wondering if it was possible for me to...go inside my own head, the way the others do."

"You want to enter your mindscape?" Thorax nodded, "why?"

"I'm the only Rider who hasn't teamed up with my Mimic. I haven't even spoken to him. I just...I want to be able to talk to him. To see what he's like and maybe...maybe I can convince him to fight with me."

"Are you sure?" Corvyn asked. "There's a chance he could never agree to help you. Plus, doing this could leave a connection between your minds. If that happens and he doesn't want to help you, he could become a distraction the same way Flash and Sheave distracted each other before they joined forces."

"I know it's a risk," Thorax replied. "But it's a risk I'm willing to take."

"Alright then." Corvyn led him to a machine and had him sit down next to it, as Corvyn inserted a wire into the port on top of his Driver. "I'll be monitoring your vitals. If anything happens, I'll pull you out."

Thorax nodded before taking a deep breath and Sitting back. And as he closed his eyes, his mind felt like it was getting foggy. Like he was about to fall asleep. And when he opened his eyes, he found he wasn't in Corvyn's lab anymore.

He was within a white void, just like the one that the others had told him about.

Thorax frowned, feeling depressed by how plain his mind was. He wanted to change it, like how the others stated they changed theirs. But first, he had to find his Mimic.

And luckily, it didn't take long before he spotted someone in the distance. Running towards them, he saw it was himself. A copy of him who was trapped in amber with only his head and chest visible. He was looking down, his eyes closed as he almost seemed to be asleep.

"Hey," he called out, "Are you...Torin?" The Mimics raised his head, Thorax expecting him to look angry. But he didn't.

Instead, he had a stoic expression on his face. "Yes. My name is Torin-Vala-Uru." Thorax nodded. "I didn't expect you to come here."

"Well, I thought it was about time we met and got to know each other." Thorax sat so they were eye level. "We've been roommates for a while now and we haven't spoken a single word to each other until now. And with the others all making peace with their Mimics, it only felt right that you and I get to know one another."

"I guess that's true," Torin nodded. The pair sat there, an awkward silence washing over them. Thorax wasn't sure what to say, feeling an unease as they sat there. But then, Torin broke the silence. "I don't blame you."

"What?"

"I don't blame you, for what happened to my brother." Thorax's eyes went wide, as he realised what the Mimic was saying. "Don't get me wrong. I hate that my power was what destroyed him. But I don't hate you for what you did. We had no right to be angry at you, defending yourself and protecting your brother. Honestly, if the roles were reversed, I might have done the same thing."

"I...I'm sorry about your brother."

"I know you are. Which is why I don't hate or blame you for it. I just wish it had never happened." The look on his face made Thorax feel pity for him. The pain he must be feeling. And the anger going through his mind. "Why? Why do the Mimics feel the need to do it? And why didn't I feel it?"

Thorax wondered what he meant, until his mind flashed back to the day he became Kamen Rider Changeling. Torin had seemed extremely hesitant to attack him. To steal his body. If it hadn't been for Maya and his brother, the Mimic might have never tried.

"You don't want to destroy the world?"

"I don't want to fight," Torin replied. "It's pointless. Fighting to destroy a world. Fighting to save it. Why do we have to fight?"

"I wish I had the answer to that," Thorax stated. "But I have to fight. The Mimics aren't gonna stop, so neither can I." Torin sighed. "But hopefully, the fighting will lead to a time when we don't have to fight." Torin looked up at him. "You, Sheave, Katar and More. None of you want to destroy this world. And Katar thinks more of you will start seeing it that way, once all the old Mimics have been stopped."

"I guess. But it still means fighting." He sighed, "I just wish there was another way to help the Mimic find a different path." Thorax nodded, but didn't know what else to say.

It was at this moment that he suddenly found the world around him beginning to drift out of focus. He was beginning to wake up from his mental state. "Before I go. Let's see if we can't make this place a little more comfortable to be in." He focused, imagining somewhere a little calmer.

Slowly, the white void began to transform. The ground started growing grass and the area above them turned blue, as trees began to sprout out of the grass. Within moments, they found themselves in a wooded forest and the calming sound of crickets and other insects filled the air.

"What do you think?"

Torin looked around and eventually nodded. "Yeah. Not bad. I like it." Thorax nodded, as his mind left the void and he suddenly found himself back in the lab.

Corvyn was right in front of him, giving him a questioning look. "How'd it go?"

"Good. Torin's not mad about me destroying his brother. But he doesn't want to fight with me."

"So he's on the Mimic's side?"

"No. He just doesn't want to fight, period. Not that I can blame him." As Corvyn unplugged him, Thorax stood up and thought for a moment. "I wonder if I can talk to him now." He closed his eyes and thought about it, 'you there?'

"Yes," Torin replied. "I can hear you. But I'll try and keep our thoughts separate. Just talk to me when you really need to speak."

"Okay." Thorax nodded as he turned to Corvyn. "Looks like we won't have any issues with each other."

"So there's another Mimic wanting to turn against the Mimic's desire to destroy." Corvyn turned away and tried to think. "Could it be human influence?" He shook his head. "It might be a factor, but there must be something more to it. Why are the Mimics developing this new sense of right and wrong now?" Corvyn wasn't sure what was causing this. But if he could find the cause, it might help him take the next step to finding a way to end the Mimic threat once and for all.

At Dark Industries, Sombra was in his office doing the work he needed to complete to keep up his disguise as just a simple CEO.

But as he worked, the phone began to ring and he quickly answered it. "What?" He listened and frowned, growling once all the info was given to him. "Great. I'll be ready." He hung up and got up, moving to the bookshelf and opening the elevator.

He quickly rode it down to his secret lab and when he stepped out, he found his Mimics and their equipment was still there. And when they saw him, they stood up and rushed to kneel before him.

"You all need to get out of here, now." His generals looked shocked by this statement. "A contact I have in the police department just contacted me. The police are going to be performing a search of this building."

"I see," Greye nodded. "Obviously, Sheave told them about you being our leader."

"Indeed. But it seems the accusations aren't considered set in stone. If they search this place and find nothing, the suspicions they have on me will be almost forgotten. Which is why you all need to leave. They may try and use a Mimic detector to locate you. I don't know if their scans can penetrate this low, but it's better safe than sorry."

"Very well," Maya nodded. "Should we take the spawns with us?"

"Yes," Sombra nodded. "We can't risk them being discovered. Find some random place and hide them there. Once we're cleared of suspicion, we'll return them." They nodded and all started moving to grab the spawns, as Sombra what about what would be happening tomorrow. "I won't allow those fools to get the better of me. Not when I'm so close."

He moved over to a table with something hidden under a sheet, the man pulling the sheet off to examine what was underneath.

The other Mimics saw it and when they recognised the device, their eyes went wide.

The next day.

For the workers of Dark Industries, it started out like any other day. None of them realised a bunch of police cars were heading towards them, until they rolled up to the building and the cops all got out of it.

Four bikes also rolled into the picture, the Riders atop them and skidding to a stop as the Rainbooms and Corvyn got out of the vehicles. And as the Riders shrank their bikes back down, Hard led them all towards the building.

The security guards at the door stepped forward. "Hold it. This is private property. You can't just walk in here without a-"

"Warrant?" Hard held up an envelope. "Everything you need is in there." The lead guard took the envelope and looked it over, opening it up and reading through everything. As he did, someone contacted the main office and explained what was going on.

Eventually, the guard let out a sigh and nodded.

"Everything's in here. You can proceed." Hard nodded and the large group began to make their way into the building, Corvyn, the Riders and Rainbooms right behind him. As they stepped through the building, the elevator dinged and opened to reveal Sombra.

"What on earth is happening?" He asked, stepping into the room looking questioning at the situation. "Why are you here?"

"It's over," Flash told him. "We're gonna reveal you for the Mimic you are." This statement catches everyone off guard, especially the employees. "He's the leader of the Mimics. I don't know how long he's been under their control, but he's dangerous!"

"Um, Flash." He turned to Corvyn, who was holding up his scanner. "I'm not detecting Mimic coming off him." That made Flash confused, since that device was supposed to be able to scan for Mimics even when protected like them.

"He must have found another way to protect himself," Flash stated with Sheave agreeing. "There's more than one way to skin a cat. He could have found a way to shield himself that the new scanner couldn't bypass."

"That's possible," Hard nodded. "Mr. Sombra. We've come to perform a search of the company."

"On what grounds?"

"If you are a Mimic, you'll likely be hiding what remains of the Mimics we couldn't capture here. If they are here, we're gonna find them." Sombra frowned. "If it turns out you're not a Mimic and aren't hiding anything, they we apologise in advance." Sombra still didn't look happy, as the cops fanned out and started searching for clues.

Every room in the building was slowly searched. And this ended up taking a long time, even with the large number of cops doing the investigating.

Floor by floor, room by room, every inch of the building was searched. Even the bathrooms, which hadn't been pleasant for the rookies made to do it. But no matter where they searched, they found nothing that would indicate the building had anything to do with the Mimics.

"There," Sombra stated once they had finished exploring one of the top secret labs. "Are you happy? You can expect to sign a non-disclosure agreement about what you've all seen. Or I'll be suing each and every one of you."

Hard turned to Flash. "We haven't found anything kid. If this place was a front for the Mimic's operations, we're not seeing anything."

"There has to be something here," Flash frowned before an idea popped in his head. "What about his office? We haven't checked in there yet."

"He's right," Shining nodded. "If the Mimic stuff is hidden anywhere, it'll be in there. Or it'll have something there that'll lead us to the Mimics." Sombra looked outraged.

"Is this a joke? How many times do I have to tell you, I have nothing to do with the Mimics." He turned to Flash. "I can't believe you're even listening to him. He's a Mimic, for crying out loud. He tried to destroy our city and has caused serious harm to so many of its citizens. How can you believe a word that's coming out of his mouth."

"We're giving him the chance to prove he can be trusted," Corvyn stated. "He was certain you were the mastermind behind the Mimics. He stated his reputation upon it. We had to give him the chance to prove himself with this."

"So you're giving him the chance to prove his innocence, but not me?"

"That's why we're here," Hard stated. "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear. If Flash turns out to be wrong, then you'll be exonerated. Now, I would like to take a look around your office." Sombra glared at him, as they began to make their way through the building and eventually rode an elevator all the way to the top of the building.

There. Sombra led them into an office that looked just like any other.

"See," he told them. "There's nothing here." Hard and the Riders started looking, but they couldn't find anything. Not a book out of place. Not a flash drive that looked like it didn't belong. Nothing. And as Sombra sat at his desk, which Corvyn scanned for any hidden buttons or whatnot, he glared at them. "I hope you understand, I'll be filing a formal complaint with the police. And you can expect my next donation to go to a more worthy cause. Like the fire department."

Hard frowned, as the others kept searching. He turned to the Riders, mentally telling them to find something or else.

"I know there's something here," Flash stated. "Sombra was always going off somewhere. And he didn't make Gule's Driver in their base, so he had to have made it somewhere."

The others believed him, but had no idea where else they could look.

Sunset had moved over to a bookshelf and started taking some of the books out, flicking through them hoping to find something hidden within the book. And this got Sombra annoyed. "Would you be careful with those?" He got up and moved over to her. "Some of those books are rare first editions. If you damage one, you couldn't pay me back if you worked three jobs for the rest of your life." He grabbed one and pulled it out of her grasp.

But as he did, his fingers suddenly touched Sunset's and her eyes went wide.

The next thing she knew, Sunset's magic pulled her into his mind. In the blink of an eye, Sunset was standing in a white void. And as she looked around, she saw something truly strange.

Sombra was standing before her, but he was different. He was glowing a strange light, which seemed to be originating from something behind him. And as Sunset looked around, she saw two streams of light. Both were flowing into Sombra from a large mass behind him, Sunset taking a closer look and gasping.

That mass was a giant pile of slime, just like the slime that Mimics were made of. The slime was swirling around someone. Sombra.

The man was standing there, unconscious, with everything except his head trapped within the goop. and above him, growing out of the goop, was an almost exact copy of Sombra. It looked like someone had taken a large pile of the slime and moulded it to look like Sombra, though she could tell they hadn't done a good job.

The light coming off the two's heads moved towards the first Sombra, spiralling around before going into him.

"What is this?" She asked, only for the first Sombra to suddenly open his eyes.

"GET OUT!" He roared, Sunset suddenly feeling like she was getting blasted by hundred mile an hour winds. And as she braced herself, images suddenly appeared before her. Images of Sombra, surrounded by the Mimics in human form. Of him creating a Driver, using a Mimicore to scan something. And of him pulling a book out of the shelf, only for it to make a clicking noise and opening the entire bookshelf.

It was at that moment, Sunset was knocked out of Sombra's mind.

She staggered backwards and almost fell over, Twilight managing to catch her. "Are you okay?" She asked, as Sunset let what had happened sink in.

Sombra shook his head, groaning as he did, whilst Sunset looked up and spotted the book from the memory. "Twilight," she pointed at it, "pull that book forward."

Twilight didn't understand, but did as she was told and used her magic to pull on the book. And as it slid out, it stopped and a clicking noise could be heard.

This got everyone's attention, as they watched that part of the shelf slide forwards to reveal an elevator. They all stared in shock, then turned to Sombra who seemed to be having a hard time coming up with an excuse for this. "I don't remember that being in any plans we found," Corvyn stated.

"Why don't we take a ride," Hard suggested as he reached for his blaster.

Sombra frowned and after Flash got in the elevator, he followed with the others getting in. It was a tight squeeze, but they all managed to get in and rode it down what felt like a hundred floors. But eventually, they came to a stop and the doors opened.

Everyone slowly stepped out and looked around, shocked by the sight of the lab they had just walked into. They spotted a bunch of machinery that looked like it had been moved in a hurry.

Flash recognised some of these devices from when he and Sheave had worked for the Mimics, the teen's eyes zeroing in on the Mimicreep chamber. And as he kept looking, he spotted something else on a nearby table. Something he hadn't been expecting to see.

"A Mimic Driver!" He called out, Corvyn looking around and seeing the device in question. His eyes went wide, as he realised this driver was pitch black in colour. And some of the designs around it were far more elaborate than what was needed to be functional. And next to it was a Mimicore, just waiting to be used.

Everyone turned towards Sombra, but the man was done trying to come up with a way to talk himself out of this. "Alright. It's official. I'm caught." He reached for his jacket sleeve and pressed one of the cuff-links. "But I'm not out of this." As soon as he pressed the cuff-link, it beeped .

Suddenly, the walls of the room opened up and a bunch of gun barrels on round joints folded out. They all pointed themselves towards them and before anyone could do anything, lasers started firing at them.

Sombra rushed forward, as everyone else was pushed back. He managed to reach the table and grabbed both the Mimicore and the Driver, whilst Rarity finally put up a shield to protect them from the lasers. What wasn't protected, were the many devices his minions had fought hard to protect. They were soon all destroyed, but Sombra didn't seem to care.

The Riders quickly summoned their Drivers and took out their Mimicores, activating them as Sombra reached for another device.

"PURIFY!/STAMPEDE!/SLASH!/FLUTTER!"

As Sombra picked the devices up, the Riders slotted their Mimicores into place and all struck a pose. "HENSHIN!" With that, the Riders slammed the Drivers shut as they activated. Both Flash's Maleficore and his Maleficleanse core also flipped into place.

"MALEFICLEANSE!" It cried as the screens flipped over one another. "MIMIC!LIGHTNINGBUG!" Flash crossed his arms, as the slim flew out and started raining down on him.

"MIMIC!MENAGERIE!/MANTIS!/BUTTERFLY!" The other three Riders were also consumed by the slime, the four cocoons forming around them.

As they did, Sombra activated the device he had grabbed. The next thing everyone knew, four portals suddenly opened. And as the cocoons exploded, a suited up Gule, Maya, Greye and Lorem leapt out of the portals.

The Riders stood in a line, as their armor formed around them. And as the Mimics prepared for battle, the transformations were complete and the four stood ready to do battle.

"Unlimitedpower, cleansedofevil.Lightandshadow,unifiedtocreatetrueharmony!"

"Rampage! The unstoppable might of the animal kingdom, raging forth and crushing all that stands before it!"

"Bladed arms that slice through anything, cutting down the evils of the world!"

"A graceful wing beat, creates a hurricane of power!"

Shifter took out his Shift Striker and placed the Hyper Strike Core within, as Morphic placed the coyote and swordfish screens into the compartment on his chest. And as Changeling and Hudie summoned their weapons, Sombra pointed at them. "Don't let them near me!"

The Mimics charged and the Riders ran forward as well, Shifter and Gule leaping into the air with Shifter swinging the buster sword at his brother. But Gule managed to avoid this, whilst Morphic reached Lorem and slashed at her.

The swan Mimic quickly formed her spear and used it to block the blades and claws, Morphic pushing her backwards and almost pinning her against a wall. Maya and Changeling began to fight, whilst Hudie tried to hit Greye with the spike of her whip.

The four fights began to really heat up, slowly tearing the lab apart.

Morphic and Lorem stared one another down, Morphic beginning to overpower Lorem as he did. "So what happened to Frill? I had a score to settle with him, for what he did to Cadance. But if his host's awake, that means he's been destroyed."

Lorem growled. "Our master punished him for his failure. For losing the Mimicore you stole." She pushed him back and slashed at him, Morphic blocking the attacks with his claws and blade. "And I won't suffer the same fate!" She leapt into the air and unleashed a bunch of feather darts, but Morphic blocked them all before she dove down and attempted to run him through.

As this went on, Changeling dodged Maya's web shots and got in close. "I talked to your son, by the way."

"What?" Her eyes went wide, as Changeling slashed at her. "What are you talking about?"

"I went inside my head and talked to him. Turns out, he's not really mad about me taking control of his body. Said it's what he deserved for trying to steal my life." He dealt a kick to her chest and knocked her back. "He also said he's not interested in being a world destroyer."

"You lie," Maya growled. "My spawn would never say that. They were destroyers."

"Maybe the other one was. But not this one!" He charged and swung both blades downwards, Maya creating a thick netting of webs to catch and hold the blades. "He wants what's best for the Mimics and he realised that that doesn't involve you guys. So we're gonna take you out, so he and the other Mimics can live a happy life."

Maya sprang the swords back and Changeling jumped back, as his swords began to glow.

He swung them around, having practised this move a lot. And as they sliced through the air, the energy flew off them towards Maya. And though weaker than when he did it with his finishing move, they still forced Maya to leap back.

At the same time, Hudie kept Greye on the defensive. Every time he tried to get in close, she would swing her Grace Gazer around in an attempt to slash at him. The Mimic barely managed to block each strike, with her using his moments of being off balance to leap forward and fly at him.

She slammed a foot into Greye's chest, knocking him backwards and causing him to almost fall over a table.

As she back-flipped and landed, she flicked her ribbon forward and it wrapped around Greye's arm. She then pulled and he was thrown towards her, the Rider preparing to slam her foot into his head when he got close enough.

But before she could, he managed to kick his feet into the ground and pushed himself up and over her. He landed behind her and with a pull, managed to rip the ribbon off his arm. "Raaah!" He spun around and tried to kick her, but she used her ribbon to block it.

"Nice try," she laughed before kicking him away. Greye staggered, then stopped and glared at the Rider as he looked ready to use his fan attack.

Shifter continued to swing the large weapon around, its size slowing him down only a little as he forced Gule to stay on the defensive. "This really isn't fair," Gule growled. "I don't get any weapons." Shifter changed the weapon to its blaster cannon form and fired, Gule creating a wall of energy to block it as best he could.

"STRIKE!"

He slotted his Mimicore into it, powering it up before firing again. And when Gule created another wall of energy, this time the blast broke through it and blew the dark Rider backwards. He let out a cry and slammed into the wall before falling to the ground, Shifter switching the weapon to sword mode and preparing to attack again.

But before he could, Gule recovered and kicked himself into the air.

He did several flips and managed to land, as Shifter slashed a large gash into the ground. The two then turned to one another again, ready to fight it out. "It's over," Shifter stated. "We've forced you out of your hideout and now that we've found this place, there's nowhere left to run. The winds of victory have truly shifted in our favour." Gule glared at him.

Meanwhile, the Rainbooms and Corvyn could do nothing but watch as the Riders battled. They wanted to help, but the four seemed to have things covered.

However, Pinkie then remembered who they had originally come here for. "Sombra!" She pointed at the far wall and everyone looked over to see the man had snuck over to that section of it.

He glared at them all before hitting a switch on the wall, causing it to slide open and reveal a secret exit. One he quickly ran into. "We can't let him get away!" Corvyn yelled, as they tried to get to the entry way. But before they could, the lasers from before started firing at them again.

The Mimics and Riders quickly found themselves getting blasted and whilst the lasers didn't appear strong enough to do any serious damage, it did sting and cause them to lose focus.

Gule was the first to capitalise on Shifter's distraction, the Rider using his sword like a shield to protect himself, by unleashing a bolt of lightning that hit the ground at his feet and knocked him flying back. "Gyah!" He hit the ground, as Hudie was forced to stop flying in order to avoid getting her wings shot through.

This allowed Greye to charge and slash at her, Hudie doing a cartwheel to avoid it.

Maya also used the laser distraction, firing a blast of webbing that struck Changeling's leg and allowed her to pull it out from under him. The Rider fell to the ground and flinched, whilst Lorem used her spear to deflect the lasers towards Morphic.

He was forced to block multiple lasers at once, with one eventually getting through and hitting him on the side. But when Lorem tried to seize this chance and stab him, he spun around and kicked her spear away before punching her in the chest.

"Gyah!" She cried, as Morphic's blades and claws retracted and he replaced the screen on his chest.

Doing so caused the mechanical arms to grow out of his back, the triceratops on them's horn glowing before launching lasers at the security systems to destroy them. Once the lasers were all blown up, Corvyn, Hard Case and the Rainbooms ran forward to where Sombra had disappeared.

Lorem picked herself up, as Morphic pointed his blasters at her. "Prepare to feel the full power of my justice!"

Outside Sombra's building, a section of the wall opened up.

From out of it, Sombra appeared and he did not look happy. He looked around and began to run, trying to think of what to do now that his secret had been uncovered. He also looked down at the Driver and Mimicore, hiding them both in his suit.

But before he could get too far, a blue blur shot past him and slid to a stop. "I don't think so," Rainbow stated. Rarity had been on her back and she quickly put up a wall, blocking his escape. Sombra glared at him, as Corvyn and the other girls arrived on the scene.

"It's over," Hard pointed a blaster at him. "Give yourself up."

"Never," Sombra stated. "I am not completely without options." He took out the device from before and pressed the button, causing a portal to form behind him that spit out several Mimicreeps.

They all gasped, as the creatures began to attack.

Twilight used her magic to grab some and throw them away, whilst Pinkie threw some sprinkles and Hard fired his blaster. The explosions destroyed them, as Sombra did his best to get away.

Back inside, the people on the first floor heard the explosions coming from outside.

When a security guard checked the footage on their cameras, they saw the girls fighting the creatures and frowned. He hit the alarm bell, telling everyone to evacuate. However, before anyone could, part of the floor suddenly exploded.

The people scream, all running for cover as something was thrown through the hole it made.

That something was Lorem, who had actually been blasted through the hole and hit the ground with a pained cry. Moments, later, Morphic flew out armed with his owl, crocodile and triceratops weapons. The triceratops arms were now growing out his sides and folding under his arms, giving his wings room to move.

As he landed, he looked around. "GET OUT OF HERE!" He yelled, the people running for their lives.

At the same time, Gule had leapt out of the hole and Shifter wasn't far behind. Once the pair landed, Shifter slashed at him with Gule dodging as best he could.

A web line then shot out of the hole and Maya leapt out, pulling Greye out behind her with Hudie flying Changeling out after them.

The Riders all looked around and saw the people running, the four knowing they had to keep the Mimics from taking any of them hostage. As such, Hudie dropped Changeling towards Maya as she shot her web blasts at him. Luckily, he managed to shift himself in the air to avoid most and cut away the other before landing.

There, he started slashing at her as she danced around to keep herself in one piece. "I will change your fate's design!" He cried, throwing a sword at her that she dodged. But as she ducked under it, he ran forward and dealt a kick right to her head.

This sent her flying back, as she crashed into a nearby wall. And as Changeling pulled his sword from the column it was embedded in, he charged and tried to slash at her.

Meanwhile, Hudie dove down and dealt several kicks to Greye. But he blocked them all with his fans before spinning and launching his energy crescents at her. Hudie managed to dodge, as her wings grew larger.

"Get ready!" Human and Mimic stated in unison, as Hudie beat her wings. "Because we're about to bring the storm!"

This caused a powerful wind, which threatened to push Greye backwards as he braced himself against it. It also kept him from doing anything to the surrounding individuals, as they ran out of the building.

Shifter blocked Gule's punch with the side of his buster sword, then spun around and kicked him away before pointing the weapon at him in cannon form.

He fired and Gule tried to protect himself with an energy barrier, but the blast was just too strong. It forced its way through the shield, but Gule was able to dodge it in time to avoid the blast hitting him. Instead, it blew through a wall and three more walls after that.

Gule quickly used these holes to try and escape, moving through the building with Shifter on his tail. The other Mimics saw this and decided they were done fighting in such a confined space, especially Lorem.

As such, she spotted a window on the front of the building and fired her feather darts towards them. The glass shattered and she was able to fly out, as Morphic flew after her.

Outside, the girls continued their battle against the Mimicreeps. Hard blasted any that got close to him and Corvyn, turning them to slime, as Sombra did his best to escape. "Get back here!" Corvyn yelled, Hard seeing him run and firing at him. But Sombra managed to avoid the blast and run around the side of the building.

What he couldn't avoid was the wall in front of him exploding, as something was thrown out of it.

"Gyah!" Shifter hit the ground, having taken a surprise hit from Gule that had blown him through the final wall of Dark Industries. Gule flew out, his wings sparking with energy as he flew up. And when he reached an area of the building that extended outwards, supported by the building's design, he slammed his feet into it and kicked off.

Shifter picked himself up and saw the other Rider diving down towards him, spinning around ready to deal a supercharged kick to his face.

Shifter raised his buster sword and managed to block the attack at the last moment, the energy flowing into the weapon and making him flinch as he tried to endure it. "GYAH!" Using all his strength, he fought through the energy and knocked Gule away.

The Mimic Rider flipped around and landed, as Shifter changed his weapon to cannon mode and fired.

Gule summoned all the energy he could generate and surrounded his arm with it, then punched the attack with as much strength as he could muster. "RAAAAAAAAAAH!" He pushed against the blast, feeling overwhelmed by it for several moments until he managed to finally push through it.

With one last cry of effort, he punched the blast away. But it was only then he realised his mistake.

As Lorem flew around the building, followed by Morphic, the laser shot towards someone she feared and admired. "MASTER!" She cried, as Shifter's energy blast got closer to Sombra. And before he could try and dodge, the energy exploded out of it and slammed into it.

It was at this moment that Hard, Corvyn and the Rainbooms arrived, they too seeing Sombra getting hit by the explosion.

Sombra was knocked flying back and crashed into the ground, the man's body being seriously injured by it. Burns covered his body and multiple cuts could be seen. Everyone gasped, but something else also happened.

Corvyn's Mimic Detector locked onto an unregistered Mimic. He held the device up and when he pointed it at Sombra, they got a strange reading. "Mimic...human?"

Suddenly, Sombra picked himself up as Gule and Lorem moved over to him. And as they did, something seeped out of his wounds that wasn't just blood. The ooze that Mimics were made of, also began to appear. Flowing out of the cuts and beginning to move around his body.

First, they covered the injuries they had originated from. And after a few seconds, the cuts resealed themselves.

Then, they moved to the burns and began working on them as well. Sombra stood up and slowly, all of his wounds disappeared. And as they did, he turned to Gule. "Next time. Watch where you're deflecting those attacks."

"I'm sorry master," Gule nodded. "But what's happening to you? This isn't how a Mimic heals themselves."

"True," Sombra stated. "But I'm not just a Mimic." It was at this moment, Maya and Greye escaped through the whole Gule had made. The pair spotted the others, as Hudie and Changeling chased them out.

"What are you?" Shifter asked, as Sombra chuckled.

"Isn't it obvious," Sombra stated. "I'm not just a Mimic. I'm not just a human. Did you really think, Gule was the first hybrid to ever be born?" This statement made everyone's eyes go wide.

"Master?" Maya asked, "you're a hybrid? How?"

Sombra chuckled, as the slime finished healing him and was absorbed by his skin. "I'll explain later." He took out a device, "give us cover!" The Mimics nodded, with Gule unleashing a wave of energy that exploded in front of everyone.

The Riders did their best to block it, as Greye and Maya launched their attacks at them to create a smokescreen. "Don't let them get away!" Morphic cried, as he ran forward through the smoke. The others did the same and when they reached the other side, they found a portal that the five leapt through.

Shifter tried to leap through it as well, but it closed at the last possible second. "Damn it!" Shifter punched the ground, as the others reached him. "They got away again!"

"Maybe," Hard stated. "But you were right about Sombra being a Mimic."

"But not as right as we thought we were," Shifter picked himself up and turned to Corvyn. "How the heck can Sombra be a human Mimic hybrid?"

"I don't know," Corvyn replied. "But it would explain why he doesn't have a cocoon anywhere."

"So what do we do now?" Changeling asked. "We've forced them out of another base. They must be running scared."

"True," Morphic nodded. "But a scared animal is always at its most dangerous. Whatever Sombra does next, we should be ready for anything." They nodded, as Hard called in more police to get the building properly inspected. There was no telling what other secrets this place held.

Hidden within the ruins of a building barely above the sand, the Mimics were all resting after their battle.

Mimic Spawn jars filled the building, the Mimics glad they had had the foresight to remove them now that there was no way they could return to the lab. But without the equipment needed to help them grow, none of them would be able to properly develop.

Sombra sat alone, clearly contemplating what to do now. The others waited for him to explain the next stage of their plan, though they were still curious about how he could be a hybrid. And eventually the man stood up and took something out. A Mimic Driver.

"It's time." He placed the device on his waist and in doing so, the straps and pipes appeared on it.

As soon as the device looked into place behind him, energy surged through his body and he roared in pain. The man screamed, falling to his knees as the others got up. "Master!" Timber cried, running towards him.

"NO!" Sombra yelled, "stay back." They did so and waited to see what would happen. And eventually, the energy stopped and Sombra took a deep breath. "It's done."

"What's done?" Maya asked, as Sombra pushed himself up.

"I've been unstable for a while now. The Mimic and human sides have been at war with one another for a while, causing me a lot of issues. But now, I've been able to stabilise myself."

"So which are you?" Greye asked. "Just because you're a hybrid, doesn't mean you're the Mimic like Gule. So which mind is in control right now?"

Sombra chuckled. "A bit of column A. And a bit of column B." The Mimics wondered what he meant by that, as Sombra sat down. It was clear, a lot of explaining was needed.

Author's Note

Sombra's been outed as a hybrid. How did he become one? Only time will tell. Hope you enjoyed this.
