The Ultimatrix Hero
Season 1, Episode 9: Not So Shrimpy
Previous ChapterNext ChapterIn the open ocean, miles away from the mainland, the seas were calm and the boats floating over it were enjoying the easy voyage.
Under the surface, however, another ship was floating around as if searching for something. It was making its way towards an area of large rocks, whilst those inside the cockpit were hard at work at their individual stations. "Next area located," Mera stated as she stared at the rocks.
"Good," Zaaton nodded. "Prepared for molecular re-composition." As he said that, part of the ship opened up before a blaster of some kind folded out. "Fire." The blaster launched a beam, which hit the largest rock and caused it to shrink down to the size of a pebble.
Doing so revealed a small cave of some kind, which the ship sent a scan into. After a few moments, the results came back. "Negative."
Zaaton sighed, as the ship moved to the next area.
As they did this, Kiraki looked around and nodded. "This ocean is way nicer than some of the other planets we've been too."
"Agreed," the gunmetal alien replied. "Too bad the humans are destroying it with all the pollution they've been dumping. Some people just don't know how to care for a planet." As he said that, something appeared in front of the ship.
A large school of sharks, which looked rather hungry.
Kiraki laughed as he did something at his console. "Hey, check it out." He fired the beam and it hit the shark, causing it to shrink down to the size of a tadpole. "Bite size." He laughed, but the others weren't amused.
"Stop messing around!" Mera told him. "Turn that shark back to normal, now."
Kiraki sighed, "fine." He aimed the weapon at the tiny shark and fired. But at the last moment, the laser passed by the shark and hit a bunch of rocks. "Oops." The others watched, as what Kiraki hit began to grow larger. And when they saw what it was, their eyes widened.
"Not good," Zaaton cried before putting up the ship's shield. But no sooner did he do that, the ship was bombarded by a powerful blast that sent them all screaming as the ship was blown backwards.
Several days later.
Class had just gotten out at CHS, with Flash and his friends heading for their lockers. "You guys coming over tonight?" Rainbow asked, as Flash, Trixie and the Rainbooms all got their things. "There's a giant monster movie marathon tonight. Giant piranhas, giant alligators, giant snakes. It's gonna be awesome."
"That does sound fun," Flash smirked. "I'll see if Chip wants to come see." The others looked just as excited, even Fluttershy, as Flash's phone suddenly went off. "Huh?" He took it out and found it was a text from Clawcer. And when he read it, his eyes went wide. "No way."
"What?" Trixie asked, looking over his shoulder.
"Clawcer wants me to bring you girls to the base. He said it's important."
"Really?" Sunset looked surprised. "I thought we still weren't allowed at the base. Since we're not Plumbers or honorary Plumbers." Flash shrugged, wondering why Clawcer wanted the girls there.
Since there was only one way to know for sure, they all headed to the Plumber Base with Flash using his pass to get the girls past the gate. Once there, they headed down to the main control room and found Clawcer and Shining in front of a large monitor.
Clawcer turned to them and nodded. "Ah, good. You're here. We have a situation."
"What kind of situation?" Twilight asked. "Is this why you asked us here?"
"Indeed," Clawcer nodded. "Despite not having the qualifications of a Plumber, a situation that occurred that might require your assistance. Since it might involve an element that I have little to no knowledge of."
"What element?" Rainbow asked, as Violet Rain showed them an image of a map with an area highlighted.
"Over the last few days, reports of ships sinking have been popping up in this area. Those that managed to escape, stated that it was like the ship was hit by a meteor from below. Some ships were blown apart and others were bent into odd shapes before sinking. We're worried this might be caused by alien weaponry."
"So we're going to investigate?" Flash asked, with Clawcer nodding.
"Shining also stated that it's possible, this is being caused by the energy you call Equestrian Magic." The girls frowned, but knew it was a possibility. "I don't claim to be an expert on the subject. As such, I will require your help in discerning what it is and stopping it if it is the Magic you girls are connected to."
"Okay," Twilight nodded, "we understand." The Rainbooms and Trixie nodded. "We'll help. But how are we gonna investigate? If this is happening out at sea, are we taking a boat?"
"No. Something better than a boat. Follow me." Clawcer led them through the base towards a special area, where a transporter pad was located. They all got on and in the blink of an eye, they were transported to another room entirely.
The room was pitch black, making them wonder what was down there. Clawcer then snapped his claw and the lights came on, revealing an amazing sight.
A giant submarine, roughly fifty meters long and fifteen meters high. It was a mixture of white, blue and green. It was almost shark-like in design, having fins on the side and top similar to the predatory animal. A bunch of windows were on the top section of the front, where the bridge lightly was, whilst the back had a bunch of propellers to allow it to move forward at incredible speeds. It looked like it could go all the way to the bottom of the ocean.
Several Plumbers stepped out of a door in the top, having clearly been doing maintenance on it. As they did, Clawcer smirked. "Say hello to the Alpherg. The ultimate Plumber vessel for underseas exploration."
"Wow," they all whispered. Flash turned to Shining Armor, "did you know this was down here?" But the look on Shining's face, he did not.
"So this is going to get us to that ship graveyard?" Rainbow asked, as Clawcer nodded. "This is so awesome!"
"Maybe. But remember. This ship is sensitive Plumber equipment. I'm allowing you girls to come, so long as you follow my instructions and don't touch anything. Understand?" They nodded, as Clawcer moved over to a staircase leaping up onto a platform that led to the top of the ship.
The other Plumbers climbed down it, as Flash and his friends followed Clawcer onto the top. As they did, the door opened up and they were able to walk right inside.
As soon as they were, they felt like they had just stepped into a sci-fi movie. The whole place was made of white pristine metal, with tubes running along the wall that had water flowing through them and bright lights over their heads. It was like they were in some kind of futuristic ship.
Clawcer led them through the sub until they arrived at the main bridge, where the windows could be seen. The ship had three consoles, one being the main controls whilst the other two were sonar and communications. Behind the main control station, a round table extended from the floor that quickly glowed to show a map of the world on it.
"Awesome," Trixie cried. The others couldn't disagree, as Clawcer stepped up to the control console. Twilight moved over to the sonar, whilst Sunset sat at the communications hub. The others moved to the front, wanting to look out the window.
Flash saw the other Plumbers stepping onto the teleport pad and warping away, as the stairs and board they had used to get on retracted away from the ship. "Hey, Clawcer. How exactly are we gonna get to the ocean? We're miles away. Don't tell me you built a long tunnel that goes all the way there."
"Of course not," Clawcer told him. He then typed at the controls, as the room's lights began to dim. "Activate transporter tunnel." The others raised an eyebrow at this, as part of the wall suddenly began to light up.
They turned towards it and they saw a swirling vortex of light, similar to the one that transported the Plumber Ships from the hanger to outer space. And once it was fully formed, water began to gush out of it and fill the room. "What the heck?" Applejack asked, as the sub was slowly surrounded by it. "Ya'h gonna flood da'h base."
"Relax," Clawcer told her. "This room is completely sealed. And once we're through the portal, the room will drain it out and send it back into the ocean." It took a few moments, but soon the room was filled to the brim.
As it filled, the arms holding the sub in place retracted. The whole thing started bobbing up and down, as Clawcer pushed the engines to start and the propeller began to spin. And slowly, the Alpherg began to move forwards towards the portal.
They were all blinded, as the sub moved into the vortex. But after a few moments, the light vanished and they opened their eyes. And to their amazement, they really were underwater.
They were coming out the side of a large cliff, which was about fifty meters tall. They were clearly far out to see and as the ship exited the portal, it began to disappear whilst the Alpherg made its way through the undersea world.
Everyone watched in amazement, as a bunch of different fish were swimming around them. Schools of tuna, a group of sting rays, even a tiger shark. The sight was absolutely amazing, with Flash and his friends knowing they would never forget this day for as long as they lived.
"Setting a course for the ship graveyard!" Clawcer stated, typing the location into the GPS. The route was soon plotted and the ship began to make its way through the ocean.
As it did, those not at the console grew curious about the rest of the ship. And whilst the view from the window was amazing, many of them decided to head out and explore the vessel. Clawcer reminded them not to touch anything and they promised, the group heading off before splitting up.
Flash, Trixie, Shining and Rainbow headed down into the lower sections of the ship, whilst Rarity and Pinkie Pie began to lead Applejack to a spot Clawcer had suggested they go to. The medical bay.
The reason they were heading there, was due to Applejack's face beginning to turn green. "Oh man!" She clutched her stomach and covered her mouth.
"I thought you only got seasick on boats?" Pinkie pointed out. "How are you getting sick under the water? There are no waves. You can't even feel the ship moving."
"A'h don't know," Applejack groaned. "It's not like a'm a medical expert."
"Don't worry," Rarity assured her. "This medi-bay will be sure to have all the latest in high tech equipment." They reached the room with the caduceus on the door and it soon slid open, revealing a high tech medical center with several rooms. The were even a robotic nurse, who turned to them as they stepped into the room.
"Welcome," she told them. "What can I do for you today?" The robot turned to Applejack and began to scan her, the girl continuing to look green through the entire scan.
"Aqua kinetosis," the robot finally stated. "Easily treatable." The robot moved over to a device and started typing away at it, the girls watching as the doorless microwave activated and something appeared inside of it. Some kind of pill and a glass of water, which the robot carried over to them. "Take one of these every eight hours and you should be fine."
Applejack took the pill and threw it into her mouth, the glass of water following suit.
Pinkie and Rarity carefully watched, as the green slowly left Applejack's face. "How you feeling?" Pinkie asked, as Applejack let out a sigh.
"Much better. A'h gotta git me some of those the next time a'm on a boat." They sighed, happy to see that Applejack wouldn't have any more issues.
Meanwhile, the others were exploring the lower sections of the ship and came to the door at the end of a long hallway.
Shining opened the door and when they stepped inside, they found they were in a large round room, with glass containers lining the walls. In the center of the room was a pool of water, which had the Ultimatrix symbol at the bottom of it. Upon closer inspection, that symbol was split into eight even pizza slices.
"What is this?" Rainbow asked, with Shining smiling.
"A moon pool. A specially designed exit out into the open ocean. The room's pressure keeps the room from flooding, whenever the moon pool opens."
"Huh?" Flash tilted his head. "So if we opened it up, we could dive out of the sub and swim in the open ocean?"
"Pretty much. But it's not a good idea to do that when the sub is moving. You could get sliced in half." They all gulped, as Rainbow moved over to one of the containers.
She pressed a button on the side, which caused the container to open up and reveal its contents. A mech suit, which she marvelled at. The suit was basically a giant robotic human, except it didn't have a head and had four arms instead of two. The top arms were robotic limbs that looked strong enough to rip a car apart. The lower arms were smaller and made out of black rubber, the lot of them realising that was where the wearer's arms went.
The chest of the suit was made of glass, with it and the metal stomach looking like they could open up to let someone inside of it. "Now that looks awesome," Rainbow smirked.
"Remember what Clawcer said," Shining told her. "This is sensitive Plumber equipment. Not something for you to play around with." Rainbow frowned, as Shining opened a locker and took something out. "Here." He threw it and Rainbow caught it, finding it was a large yellow book. "Manual. If you wanna use the aqua knight, you gotta learn how to use it."
"Seriously?" Rainbow flicked through the book. "It's like...a hundred pages."
"Can't you read at super speed?" Trixie asked with a knowing glance, making Rainbow frown as she opened it up.
Back on the main bridge, Clawcer continued to drive whilst the others focused on their assigned tasks.
Fluttershy was still at the front, looking out the window and watching the many fish swin by. One such fish, swam up to the glass and managed to keep up with the ship. It was right next to Fluttershy, who smiled at it and waved. "Hello there. How are you today, Mr. Fish?"
The fish let out several bubbles, with Fluttershy nodding as if she understood what it was saying.
Clawcer saw this and nodded. He still didn't fully understand the girl's magical powers, but he knew they could come in handy. Especially Fluttershy's, given where they were right now. And as he watched Fluttershy converse with the fish, Twilight spoke up.
"Clawcer. I'm detecting a large number of metal objects straight ahead."
"We're here," Clawcer nodded before opening the coms to the others. "All hands to the bridge. We've arrived at our destination." A few minutes later, Flash and the others arrived back on the bridge. They all made their way towards the window, just as they arrived at the graveyard of ships.
"Wow," Flash whispered. They looked out at the ships, which had all been partially destroyed by whatever sunk them. Many looked like they had been hit by a giant cannon ball, whilst others had large lines of metal peeled away from the ships like bananas.
"What happened to them?" Rarity asked, as Clawcer flew over the graveyard.
"That's what we're here to find out." Clawcer turned to Twilight. "Activate the energy scanners. See if you can detect any energy signatures not native to Earth." Twilight nodded and began to type at her console, whilst Flash moved away from the window.
"I'm gonna go take a closer look. Maybe I can find something a scan wouldn't detect."
"Very well," Clawcer nodded. "Shining, go with him in an aqua knight." Shining nodded, as Rainbow once again opened the manual and started reading it. As soon as she finished the last page, she flipped the book closed.
"Done. I'm going too." Before Clawcer could stop her, she zipped through the sub towards the moon pool room.
Shining turned to Clawcer. "You did decide to bring them. Might as well put them to use." Clawcer sighed, as Flash and Shining headed for the moon pool room.
By the time they got there, Rainbow had already gotten into an aqua knight. The front folded upwards, allowing her to pull herself up into the machine.
She had slotted into it, her legs going into the knight's legs whilst her arms were inside the rubber arms. As soon as the front slid back down and locked, the knight activated and she was able to move around. "Wow." She took a step and almost lost her balance. "This thing's tricky to control."
"I thought you read the manual?" Shining asked, as he opened another mech and climbed in.
"I did." Rainbow suddenly staggered forward and fell into the pool, a loud splash filling the air as she sank below the water for a moment. She quickly surfaced, shaking her head to get the dizziness out of her brain. "I'm okay."
Flash smirked, as he activated the Ultimatrix and transformed into one of his sea faring aliens. "Skydiver!" The Equestrian alien quickly dived into the water, transforming into his seapony form as Shining carefully walked forward and dove into he water as well.
As he did, Rainbow began to move her arms and the robotic ones moved the same way, whilst Shining opened the coms. "Ready for the drop."
"Slowing to a stop," Clawcer announced. They couldn't even tell if the sub was moving or not. "Opening moon pool." The Ultimatrix symbol began to retract into the sides, connecting them to the ocean.
Skydiver half expected the water to start streaming in, but it didn't and he was able to swim through the hole into the open sea. Rainbow and Shining were close behind, somehow causing their suits to sink for a few moments.
Once they were out of the sub, jets on the back of their suits fired and they were propelled forward. They quickly caught up to Skydiver, the group looking around and seeing the damage up close and personally.
Skydiver swam into the hole of a sunken fishing boat, looking around for any sign of what might have done this. Rainbow and Shining did the same, investigating multiple ships but finding no clues. Shining was worried they might find the bodies of the crew, something that could seriously mess Flash and Rainbow up, but so far there hadn't been any sign of them either.
Back on the Alpherg, Clawcer and the others were also watching.
Twilight had finished the scan and turned to the crab alien. "Sorry. The instruments aren't picking up any kind of energy signature. Whatever destroyed these boats, it wasn't an energy weapon."
"Then what was it?" Sunset asked. "Boats don't just suddenly combust and sink."
"Is there anything on Earth that could cause this kind of damage?" Rarity asked, as Clawcer's thousand watt brain calculated the answer.
"There are some ways of creating that kind of damage. But none of them are on this scale. For it to have that kind of destructive force, it would need to be much larger than it actually is." The others wondered what he was talking about, until Twilight's console suddenly beeped.
She turned back to it and returned to the sonar screen, which showed the ship in the middle and all the metal ships outside. but it was also showing something else. Something that had just arrived on visual range. "Guys. Something's coming. Something really big."
The others began to worry, as Twilight calculated its approach and Clawcer turned the ship to face it. He also warned the others, Skydiver and the mech wearers watching the sub's turn and looking in the same direction. And slowly, out of the darkness of the sea, something approached. Something big.
Everyone began to gulp, as they saw what appeared to be a giant claw.
It was so big, it could curl around an elephant and lift it up. The claw was connected to something that was around the same size as it, which terrified everyone inside the sub. It was a giant...shrimp.
"Wow," Rainbow gulped.
The shrimp was huge, the same size as its large right claw. It was brownish yellow in colour, with purple dots covering its body and multiple thin legs. It had a second claw that was much smaller than its other one, but it was still large enough to cause serious damage.
"What...is that?" Applejack gulped, as the others turned to the animal expert in the room.
Fluttershy stared at it in wonder, clearly knowing what it was. "A pistol shrimp." Before anyone could say anything else, the shrimp noticed them and suddenly started moving much faster. It shot towards the sub, as Clawcer tried to back it up.
"It's attacking!" Pinkie cried, as everyone rushed away from the window. The shrimp swung its pincer around, barely missing the Alpherg. Clawcer began to move the ship around, as Skydiver turned to the others and they all nodded.
The alien seapony swam towards the giant. trying to catch its attention.
He swam in front of its eyes, making it see him as he stuck his tongue out at it. "Come and get me, you overgrown piece of seafood." He swam around its eye, as Rainbow and Shining arrived as well.
"Activating pulse cannon!" One of Shining's robotic hands folded into the air and formed a weapon, which he fired at the giant shrimp. But the creature barely appeared phased by the attack and swung its claw around, Shining narrowly avoiding it.
Rainbow also activated her pulse cannon and flew under it, firing at its underbelly. But the shrimp's shell was too hard, meaning it didn't feel a thing. It completely ignored her, as it was more focused on Shining, Skydiver and the Alpherg.
On board the sub, Clawcer looked very worried. "Flash, Shining. Get away from that thing."
"What's the big deal?" Sunset asked. "They've fought giant monsters before. And they're giving us time to get away." But the look on Clawcer, Twilight and Fluttershy's face, told her something bad was going down. "What?"
"Pistol shrimp at their normal size are dangerous enough," Twilight explained. "There's a reason they're called pistol shrimp. Their large claws can snap together fast enough to create a mini sonic boom."
Clawcer nodded. "For its size, it's the loudest most destructive sound in the animal kingdom." The others slowly realised what he was getting at.
"So," Applejack asked, "if one this size used it...how powerful would the blast be?" Clawcer closed his eyes and started doing the calculations in his head, eventually coming up with an answer and looking terrified.
"You don't want to know." Everyone turned back to the giant pistol shrimp, as Skydiver, Shining and Rainbow kept trying to distract it. "Flash, Shining. You three, back to the ship before it decides to blast you apart."
The three heard this and nodded, as they zipped back to the ship as fast as they could. As they did, the shrimp tried to grab them. But it was much too slow, allowing the three to escape as it raised its claw. "That's it doing?" Pinkie asked, as Twilight gulped.
"It's gonna try and blast them. But it has to cock its pincer first. Like a cap gun before it goes off. We'll be okay so long as it doesn't-"
"It's cocking its pincer!" Rarity screamed, as the giant claw began to slowly open. The three outside all sped up, as the claw opened to its fullest.
Clawcer turned to Rarity. "Put up a wall of shields. Maybe that'll protect us." She nodded and raised her hand, creating a wall of gems between the ship and the shrimp. And as the three swam into the moon pool, the shrimp's claws slammed shut.
It was literally in the blink of an eye. One minute, the claw was open and the next, it was shut and the sound it produced was incredible. It was so loud that, everyone that heard it was deafened. The sub's windows even shook, despite Clawcer saying they were unbreakable.
The shockwave that followed was incredible, creating a powerful blast that pushed the water away from the claw and even knocking the shrimp back.
When the underwater wave hit the Rarity's diamond shield, the whole thing shattered. This caused the wave to hit the ship, blowing backwards and spinning it around. Inside, everyone who wasn't sitting down was thrown through the place. In the moon pool room, Rainbow and Shining had to magnetically attach themselves to the floor to keep from being thrown around. They both grabbed Skydiver to help him, as the sub kept spinning around and around.
Eventually, the energy from the shockwave calmed down and the sub slowed down. Those inside were finally able to pull themselves off the walls they had been pinned to, many of them moaning as they fell to the floor. Applejack was glad she had taken that seasickness medicine, because she knew she would have been blowing chunks if she hadn't.
As the ship slowed down, the lights suddenly began to flicker before dying. "That's not good," Twilight stated. The emergency lights came on, but they all realised that blast couldn't have been good for the ship's systems.
"Everyone okay?" Clawcer asked, the group moaning as they nodded. "Clawcer to moon pool. Everyone alive in there?"
"Yeah," Skydiver groaned, "we'll live. Though I think I might have left my stomach back there."
Clawcer sighed. "Let's just be thankful we weren't any closer to the blast. That much power would have ripped this ship to shreds."
Trixie then pointed at the window. "So it's a bad thing that the shrimp's heading our way." Everyone looked towards the front and saw the giant pistol shrimp, as it slowly shuttled along the seafloor towards them. Its thin legs moved across the graveyard of ships, as it appeared to be readying its pincer for another blast.
"What do we do?" Pinkie asked, as Clawcer considered his options.
"No choice." He typed at the computer, "this will drain the remains of our power. But at least we'll survive long enough to come up with a solution. I just hope it works."
"What works?" Fluttershy asked, clearly worried about the creature as well as their own safety. "You're not gonna kill it, are you?"
"No. At that size, this'll only hurt it a little. Hopefully, enough to make it leave." He pulled on a leaver before pressing a button. "Sonic disruptor. FIRE!" Part of the sub's front opened up and a satellite dish folded out of it. One which unleashed a high powered sonic wave that flew through the water.
When it reached the pistol shrimp, the giant creature made a horrible noise as it moved backwards.
Clawcer pushed the leaver as high as it could go, whilst the backup power began to flicker. "Come on." After a few moments, the shrimp began to stagger back and he pulled the leaver down. The shrimp seemed to get the message. Stay away and the sound stays off.
Everyone watched, as the shrimp slowly disappeared into the darkness of the ocean. And when it was completely out of sight, everyone sighed in relief.
Their joy didn't last long, as the lights completely died after that. "Great," Sunset groaned. "Now what do we do?" A few moments later, they heard a sound coming from the doors. Clawcer leapt out of his chair and prepared to attack, only for the door to be opened by a glowing orange screwdriver.
Lantool floated into the room, his orange light illuminating the place as best it could.
"Sorry," he told them, "couldn't get the doors opened with the lights down." Shining and Rainbow followed him in. "So, that was kind of nuts."
"No kidding," Twilight nodded. "Looks like we know what happened to the ships. That pistol shrimp blasted them all to kingdom come."
"How the heck did it get that big?" Applejack asked. "A'h thought shrimps were only supposed to be...shrimpy."
"There's no way something like that is natural," Clawcer stated. "I'd have to scan it to be sure, but I'm positive that creature was enlarged by some kind of growth ray. Either somebody did this on purpose, or we're dealing with an accident that's gotten way out of control."
"So what do we do?" Rarity asked. "If the power's out, doesn't that mean that life support is offline as well."
"Indeed," Clawcer nodded. "With this many of us, I'd give us two hours of air before we start to suffocate."
"Great," Lantool sighed. "So what do we do now?" As this was happening, Shining had opened up a hatch in the floor and took out a box, which had a bunch of emergency equipment in it. This included glow-sticks, which he quickly ignited and passed to the others. Lantool reverted back to human, as Clawcer unleashed a burst of energy that flew into Twilight's console.
It lit up, allowing Twilight to perform a systems check.
"The damage doesn't seem too bad," she explained. "Clawcer and I can probably fix it before we run out of air. Even faster if Flash uses one of his smarter aliens." Flash nodded. "I'm just scared that pistol shrimp might come back."
Rainbow turned to Clawcer. "If we get the power back on, do you think we can use the sonic disruptor to take it out?"
"No!" Fluttershy cried, turning to the others. "That pistol shrimp is obviously scared. If someone did make it grow, then it's not its fault it's doing so much damage. We need to find a way to help it."
"How'd ya'h expect us ta help it?" Applejack asked. "Da'h thing's as big as this ship. Bigger, even. What do you want us to do?"
"If someone did make it grow," Sunset turned to Clawcer. "Is there a way to shrink it back to normal?"
"Yes," Clawcer nodded. "In fact, the Plumbers have a device specifically to fix items and life forms, who have had their size artificially altered. It's a size altering ray. Maybe even the same kind that enlarged that shrimp in the first place. The only issue is, we'd need to signal the Plumbers to send it to us. And without working communications..."
"Alright," Flash nodded. "So first we fix the air. Then, we fix the radio."
"What should the rest of us do?" Trixie asked, as Shining placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You, Rainbow and Pinkie are coming with me. We need to check the outside of the ship for any damage. We've got four mech suits, so the four of us will head out."
"How?" Rarity asked, "isn't the moon pool closed? How do you intend to open it without power?"
"There's a manual," Shining stated. "Applejack's super strength should allow her to open it without much issue."
"Just be careful," Clawcer stated. "With the power off, the pressure in the room might be off. Opening the moon pool could cause the whole place to flood. Open it a tiny bit at a time and be ready to close it if it starts to flood." They all nodded and with their tasks decided, they all headed out.
Shining and the girls all made it to the moon pool room and sure enough, the pressure was still working. Applejack found the manual crank and opened it, allowing the other four to jump into the water without any issue. Applejack then closed it, knowing she couldn't risk leaving it open in case the room lost pressure.
In the engine room, Twilight and Clawcer were working on fixing the damage done by the sonic blast.
Despite the shield Rarity had put up, the impact had still been incredibly powerful. So powerful, that it had rattled several components loose from their spots inside the machine. "How's it looking?" Clawcer asked, as Twilight used her magic to lift several wires back into place.
Moments later, part of the engine opened with U-Reek-Ah climbing out of it. "The conductor nodes are back online. And I took the liberty of shurring up some of the electro pathways, so the circuitry won't be as brittle."
"Good," Clawcer nodded. "Once we've got everything back as it should, we can start charging the batteries up once again."
"Are you sure that's gonna work?" Twilight asked. "From what I can tell, this sub's entirely hydro electric. Water flows into special pipes as we move and spins the dynamos. How are we gonna charge it up, if we don't have any water flowing into the pipes?"
"I might be able to do it," U-Reek-Ah suggested. "I'll just go Water Hazard and blast some water into the pipes."
"No need for that," Clawcer stated. "I can charge the batteries. There are special sections that can allow electrical energy into the batteries. I just open it up and give it a good zap, then we'll be good."
"Can you really generate that much energy?" Twilight asked, worried he might be overtaxing himself.
"We won't need a full charge. Just enough to get the engines going. Then we can charge it up the normal way." They nodded, as they continued to work as fast as they could. Unfortunately, Flash's Ultimatrix ran out of juice before they could complete the task. That slowed them down a bit.
Luckily, four of the individuals remained outside the ship. That means less air was being used.
Shining and the girls were swimming around the sub, the cameras in their mech suits scanning the outside to check for damages. "Found one," Rainbow stated. She had spotted a large gash on the top of the ship. The metal wasn't broken through, so there was no risk of an air leak. But it would need to be patched up.
Shining was at the rudder, using a laser in his arm to repair another crack. "Alright. Seal it up with your laser and be careful. We don't want to accidentally burn through the sub and flood it ourselves."
Pinkie and Trixie were currently on watch duty, the pair keeping an eye out for anything that might get in the way.
Trixie spotted a large shark coming and when it approached, she summoned the power of her Luna Cat Medallion. Doing so created an even larger shark, three times the normal one's size. As it swam forward, it gave several biting motions and scared the smaller one away.
"Yeah, that's right." Trixie smiled. "Keep away, fin face." She turned her mech back towards the sub, as Pinkie swam around having fun whilst keeping an eye out.
Back inside, Fluttershy was on the bridge thinking about the Pistol Shrimp.
Despite the danger it had put them in, she knew it wasn't dangerous. Just scared. They had to get it back to its normal size, before it caused any more harm. Eventually, people were going to want the poor thing's head for all the pain it caused.
Suddenly, the lights began to flicker on. "Yay!" Rarity cheered, only for them to go dim. "Is that a good thing?" Sunset moved over to the console and started it up, as Fluttershy and Rarity looked over her shoulder.
"Power is slowly rising," Sunset smiled. "Looks good."
In the engine room, Clawcer was electrocuting a metal rod sticking out the side.
Flash and Twilight watched, both keeping well back and covering their eyes so as to not burn their retinas. As they did, the lights grew brighter and brighter. "Sweet," Flash smirked, "power's coming back on."
"Clawcer," Twilight told him, "that's enough." Clawcer heard this, but kept going. They were gonna need as much power as he could generate.
"You two head back to the bridge and contact the Plumbers. Tell them to send the shrink ray to the ship's location." They nodded and headed out of the engine room, as Clawcer kept zapping the rod.
When the two arrived, they found Sunset was already on the radio. "Can anyone hear me?" She asked, only for there to be no response. "Something's wrong with the radio."
Twilight moved to the next console and did another system's check, the computer finding a problem it hadn't registered before. "It's not the radio. It's the antenna. Our signal isn't reaching past the water's surface."
"So we just get higher," Flash suggested. Twilight nodded, only for a coms channel to open.
"Anyone on the bridge?" It was Shining, "we have a problem."
Outside, Shining had just fixed the rudder. But it was only then he had discovered that the propeller blades were also cracked apart. If they tried to use them, they would likely shatter and they would be truly dead in the water.
Soon enough, Shining and the others returned to the bridge.
Clawcer had also returned, the crab exhausted from charging the ship up. "Please tell me we have a way to get this sub back to the surface." Flash turned to the smart ones of the group, as they all tried to think. "Don't we have some way to make the sub float upwards?"
"I'm afraid not," Clawcer shook his head. "The fins on the ship are what allow us to move in all four directions. But they aren't powerful enough to push the ship up to the surface. We'll need to repair the propeller before we can do that."
"And we don't have radio," Sunset reminded them. "Meaning we can't contact the Plumbers for help."
"So what do we do?" Pinkie asked.
"We do have a portable radio," Shining pointed out. "If one of us takes it up to the surface, we can contact the Plumbers and have them transport the shrink ray. They might even be able to lock onto us if things get bad and warp us away."
"Not a bad plan," Clawcer agreed. "But I don't like the idea of you going alone. You might be small, but that Shrimp might still decide you're a good snack. The aqua knights will accompany you."
"Alright," Shining nodded, "but who'll go?"
"I'll go," Trixie stated. "If that thing shows up, maybe I can make it think we're not here."
They nodded, as Twilight also decided to go so that she had better aim with her magic. That just left one suit and before Rainbow could call dibs, Fluttershy spoke up. "I'll go. If I get close to it, maybe I can talk to the shrimp and calm it down. Help it see that we're not a threat."
The others frowned, not sure if that was a good idea. But Clawcer eventually nodded. "Very well. You'll join the others in heading to the surface. If the shrimp shows up, just make sure Flash and the radio get topside. Agreed?"
"Agreed," they all nodded before heading back to the moon pool room.
Not wanting to waste the power they had, Applejack went with them and once again opened the round door manually. The others got into their suits and Flash activated the Ultimatrix, finding the aquatic alien he was looking for and transforming. "SQUIDSTRICTOR!" The alien squid flexed his many tentacles, as Clawcer stepped in carrying the small radio in his pincers.
"Here." He handed it to Squidstrictor. "It's waterproof, so you don't have to worry about it in the water. Just be careful with it. It's very delicate. If the shrimp shows up and uses its sonic snap, the wave would definitely destroy it."
"And me," the alien replied as he wrapped his tentacle around it. "Don't worry. I'll be careful" He turned to the others. "Everyone ready to go?" They all nodded, as Applejack opened the moon pool. Squidstrictor dived through the hole, with the aqua knights following after him.
Applejack closed the moon pool and returned to the bridge with Clawcer, as everyone else watched the five heading upwards. "Be careful," Clawcer stated before hearing a dinging sound.
He rushed over to the sonar and his eyes widened. "No. Why now?"
"Is it the shrimp?" Rarity asked, the others not needing an answer as they saw the giant creature appear in the distance. "Why is it back?"
"Must have wanted to see if we were still here," Clawcer guessed.
"What do we do?" Sunset asked, as they watched the shrimp suddenly look up and see the five. "Maybe use the sonic disruptor."
"If we use it, our power goes out again. I won't have the energy to recharge it for a while. We'll get it ready. If it uses its snap again, we'll have no choice but to use it." They nodded, as they watched their friends swimming up towards the surface.
"We've got company," Rainbow gulped. The others looked around and saw the shrimp, as it also noticed them and prepared to attack.
"Not good," Shining frowned. "Flash, get that radio to the surface. We'll keep the shrimp busy." Squidstrictor frowned, but nodded. The others dived back down, all pushing their suits to the max. As they did, Trixie called upon the power of her Medallion.
"Let's see how you like this!" She summoned the giant shark again, which swam at the shrimp looking like it was about to take a bite out of it. But Twilight's eyes go wide.
"Trixie! Bad idea. Remember, it uses its pincer for defence more than attack. If it sees a giant shark, it's gonna try and defend itself with its sonic attack." Sure enough, its larger pincer looked like it was about to open.
"Uh oh." Trixie dispelled the shark and instead, tried to make the Alpherg disappear. But the shrimp didn't seem to be phased by the illusion in the slightest. "Um, hello. Why is it acting like it can still see the ship?"
"Because it can," Fluttershy stated. "Shrimps can see incredibly well. Even better than humans. They can see ultraviolet light and even light on the electronic spectrum. It doesn't matter if you make an illusion that hides the ship. The energy it's giving off is like a glow beacon."
"That's probably what made it come back," Shining frowned. "When the engines came back on." The shrimp continued towards the ship, as Trixie cut her illusion. "This is bad. If we attack, it'll use its pincer to blast us. But if we don't do anything, it might start tearing the ship apart like a tin can."
On board, Clawcer had had the same thought.
Rarity placed a shield between them and the shrimp, but she knew it wouldn't hold up against the power of its super strong claw. "What do we do?"
"I don't know," Clawcer frowned. "Our only option would be to use the sonic disruptor again. But I doubt it'll just give up if the sound hurts. This time, it might force its way through the sound and attack the source to stop it. If that happens, we might have no choice but to push the disruptor to the max."
"What'll that do?" Applejack asked. "Our friends are outside."
"The knights are designed to withstand the disruptor, even at max power. But the shrimp won't be so lucky. Ten seconds of max sonic vibrations and it'll be dead." They all frowned, not liking the idea of killing the poor creature. But if it used its pincer, what other choice did they have.
At the same time, Squidstrictor was swimming as fast as he could with the radio in hand.
As he did, he had no idea that he had been spotted by something. The same group of sharks that Trixie had scared away, now saw him and were in the mood for calamari. They swam up and Squidstrictor's incredible water hearing, allowing him to hear their approach.
"Oh, great!" He spun around, keeping the radio safe, as the sharks came in for an attack. But before it could take a bite out of him, he swam to the side before spinning around and slapping one of his tentacles into its face.
The shark was knocked away, but another came in to attack and Squidstrictor unleashed a bunch of ink.
This ink blinded the shark and when it entered its gills, the creature started coughing as they didn't like breathing it in. And before it could recover, something wrapped around its neck and tightened itself up. This blocked its gills, preventing water from getting in as the ink faded.
The other sharks saw Squidstrictor had wrapped himself around their school mate, preventing it from being able to breath.
It roared, trying to throw him loose. But eventually, the lack of oxygen began to get to it and it became listless. Squidstrictor released it before it could suffocate, the shark falling into the depths as the others attacked. But once again, Squidstrictor started spinning around and causing his tentacles to spin around at high speed.
No matter what they did, they couldn't get in close without getting slapped by the tentacles. Even when they tried to take a bite of him, Squidstrictor knocked them away. After about ten slaps each, the sharks swam down into the depths.
Once they were deep enough, they turned around and swam back up as fast as they could. An inbuilt strategy that evolved over thousands of years. But as they picked up speed, they found that Squidstrictor had left the spot he had been in. They couldn't see any trace of him and when they tried to track his scent, all they could pick up was ink in every direction.
Higher up, Squidstrictor was swimming as fast as he could whilst camouflaging his body.
Hopefully, the sharks wouldn't locate him as he did this and he could get away. And soon enough, the surface could be seen and he broke through it. "Finally." He looked around, seeing no boat or landmass in sight. Hopefully, he could make the call and return to the ship before he ran out of power. The last thing he needed, was to time out halfway down to the bottom and drown.
He held up the radio and started working to get it up and running, extending the antenna before connecting to the Plumber Satellite. "Can anyone hear me?" He called out, as the radio made some static noises. "Come on. This is Flash Sentry. We need some help here."
Back below the water, Shining had charged at the pistol shrimp whilst Trixie and Twilight were working to keep the creature occupied.
Twilight used her magic to lift several boulders, aiming them at the shrimp's relatively thin legs. But she wasn't used to fighting under water and when she let them go, they just floated in place.
She frowned, as the shrimp charged forward and swung the smaller claw towards her. She barely managed to avoid it in time, her suit's propulsion exploding to push her away. Trixie chose this moment to create an illusion of another pistol shrimp, which she tried to make look as appealing to the other one as possible.
"Come on," she groaned. "This has gotta be appealing to you. Follow it and go make giant shrimp babies." But the shrimp didn't seem at all pleased to see it, even raising its claw to attack it. The illusion shrimp raised its own claws, Trixie making it do a bunch of kung-fu moves it shouldn't even be able to do on its own.
"Trixie!" Shining told him, "stop messing around and make it surrender. We don't want the actual shrimp snapping to get rid of your fake one."
Trixie huffed. "Why am I even here, if I can't use my magic to stop it?"
"Can't you use another Medallion?" Twilight asked, Trixie turning to her.
"Oh yeah. Which one? None of my other Medallions have much use underwater. I can't fly underwater and my Mighty Bull form won't do much good. And if I can't take advantage of it, how is my Rapid Turtle form gonna help?"
"You could try your Iron Serpent." Shining fired a laser into the water in front of the shrimp, hoping making some steam would distract it. The shrimp found the water around it beginning to grow hotter, which forced it to move away from the group.
As this was happening, Twilight saw a bunch of rocks right behind the shrimp and she had an idea.
She used her magic and focused on the rocks, lifting them up and making them float before pulling them towards her. This made them slam into the back of the shrimp, causing it to turn around and see if there was anything that might be a risk to it. But it couldn't see anything, distracting it as the others floated towards it.
Trixie had swapped to her Iron Serpent form, the hero trying to form a dome of pink energy around the creature. "I hope this works."
They watched, as the shrimp began to slam its larger claw into the shield. When it struck, the energy bubble shook and a crack formed. "Seriously?" Shining groaned, "how strong is this thing?" Trixie tried to repair the barrier, but found the shrimp's claw punch was just too strong.
After the fifth punch, the barrier shattered and Trixie cried out. She shook her head, as the shrimp turned towards them. And clearly, it had had enough of them messing with it.
It raised its pincer, terrifying everyone, and slowly lifted them open to cock the firing joint. "It's gonna blast us!" Rainbow cried, as Rarity put another shield up. Trixie, Twilight and Shining flew towards the ship, Trixie also putting a shield up in front of the ship. If they were outside when the blast hit, they would be in serious trouble.
"Fluttershy!" Twilight cried, "we have to go." Fluttershy was still floating in the middle of the ocean, staring at the shrimp as it prepared to blast them all away.
Inside the sub, Clawcer pushed the sonic disruptor to full power. "I've got no choice. It's it or us." He was about to fire, but Sunset grabbed his claw.
"Wait, look!" They all stared out of the window, as they saw a knight swimming towards the shrimp.
"Fluttershy!" Rainbow cried.
"What are you doing?" Rarity gasped, as the girl got closer and closer to the creature.
"If that creature fires..." Clawcer frowned. "She's too close. There'll be nothing left of her." The others looked worried, as they watched her get closer and closer to the shrimp.
The girl flew right in front of the creature's eyes and held her arms out, as the creature tilted its head. "Please stop." She called upon her magic and did her best to have it convey not just her words to the creature, but her thoughts and feelings. "I know you're scared. You've become so big that you can't hide from anything. You're so used to being able to disappear, that being the centre of attention is terrifying."
The shrimp just kept staring at her, the others looking worried that it wouldn't listen and snap. But to their surprise, the claw stopped opening.
"I know how you feel. I spent years trying to hide and when I was thrust onto centre stage, I was scared too. I just wanted everything that stared at me to disappear." She slowly moved forward. "But you can't let your fears control you. That's something I've learned time and time again. If you let yourself give in to fear, you'll always be scared. I know the world seems big and scary, even at your size, but you're stronger than fear."
The shrimp seemed to understand this, its claw remaining still.
Fluttershy sighed, her magic glowing brightly as she placed her hand on the claw. "We can help you. We can get you back to your normal size. But not if you destroy us with that shockwave. So please, let us help you. Trust us."
Everyone watched, the other three knights moving towards her. They all feared the worst, that the shrimp would still blast them and Fluttershy would be atomised. But then, the claw began to move. And not in the direction they feared.
The claw slowly closed, shutting with barely any effect.
Everyone sighed in relief, Fluttershy smiling as she patted the claw. "Thank you. I promise. We'll help you." It was then that the shrimp noticed movement above it and looked up, Fluttershy and the others doing the same.
"Somebody order takeout?" Squidstrictor smiled, as he swam down carrying something. A strange looking futuristic ray gun. The alien squid looked exhausted, as he swam towards Shining Armor. "Here, catch." He threw it at Shining and the Plumber caught it, whilst Squidstrictor raced towards the ship.
Obviously, he was worried he was about to time out. So Clawcer quickly opened the moon pool and allowed him to jump inside.
As he did, Shining pointed the ray gun towards the shrimp. "Don't move." He didn't know if it understood him, but he fired the laser and hit it. And as soon as he did, the creature began to shrink.
Fluttershy followed its head, as it got smaller and smaller. It took almost an entire minute of shrinking, but eventually it was tiny. Fluttershy smiled and held out her hand, allowing the shrimp to fall into it as she held it up. "See. I told you we would help you." The shrimp let out several sounds that her geode translated for her. "I promise. Something like this will never happen again." She couldn't really promise that, but the chances of it happening were slim to none.
Fluttershy flew down to a large pile of rocks and placed the shrimp down on them.
The little sea creature swam around, happy that it was once again able to move in and out of the rocks. It gave Fluttershy one final happy look before disappearing into the rocks, Fluttershy smiling as she swam away from the rocks. Hopefully, the shrimp would be able to live a happy life without any more issues.
As she swam back to the sub, she saw Shining moving to the back in order to repair the propeller.
Twilight and Trixie returned to the Alpherg, swimming back through the moon pool as she followed. Flash was waiting for them there, whilst Rainbow, Pinkie and the others ran into the room. "Fluttershy!" Pinkie cheered, "That was amazing."
Rarity nodded. "You were incredible, darling."
Fluttershy smiled, as she returned the knight to its container and got out. Once they were all out of the knights, they returned to the bridge where Clawcer was still working.
"Girls," he told them all. "You all did great. Especially you, Ms. Shy."
"Thank you," Fluttershy nodded.
Clawcer nodded. "I'll admit, you girls have some impressive skills. And whilst I can't give you any authority as actual Plumbers, I may have to allow you to help in times of need. Especially if it involves the magic you have faced before."
Twilight nodded. "Thank you. Trust me. We'd rather let the Plumbers handle these kinds of situations. But it's like with Flash. Letting the powers we have go to waste would be terrible. If we can help others, even just a little, we want to." The others agreed, as Clawcer nodded.
"Indeed. And your non-magical skills do have their uses. I guess so long as you have an actual Plumber watching over you, I can allow you into the base so long as you don't mess with everything." The girls smiled at this, as Clawcer checked Shining's progress on the propellers.
"I'm glad this is all over," Flash sat down. "But still, I wonder what caused that shrimp to get so big in the first place."
Sunset turned to Fluttershy. "Did it tell you how it happened?" Fluttershy shook her head.
"No. All it knew was that one minute it was sleeping under some rocks and the next, it was suddenly growing larger and larger. It was so surprised, that it used its pincer and was shocked by how powerful it was. If something did purposefully grow it, they might not have survived the impact."
Everyone hummed, wondering if that was the case. If it was, could there be wreckage somewhere close by? And if it wasn't, what had happened to them?
On a deserted island, several miles away from the area that the shrimp had turned into a graveyard, Zaaton's ship was on the beach.
Mera was outside the ship, her finger creating a blue flame that she was using to weld part of the ship together. As she did, the alien with the prophetic arm appeared. "Almost done?"
Meta sighed, as she finished the welding. "Yes. How are the repairs coming inside the ship?"
"Almost done," he replied. "But Zaaton's getting annoyed with all the delays. If we don't get the search back underway soon, he's not gonna be happy."
"I understand that," Mera nodded. "But if they're not done properly, we'll only have to stop and fix them again." She sighed. "Adoyk. Next time I agree to let Kiraki control the blasters, do me a favour and hit me." The prosthetic alien nodded before heading back into the ship, allowing Mera to get back to work.
As she did, she knew Zaaton's frustrations were warranted. They had yet to find any sign of their objective. If they couldn't locate it soon, Zaaton would go mad.
"Just a little longer. Then, our long mission will be complete."
Author's Note
Once again, Zaaton and his crew cause some serious issues. Will they find what they're looking for soon? Only time will tell. Hope you enjoyed this one.
