2 The first Sight.

It's late, in fact it's so late it's early. The clock in the room reads well past one in the morning. So, what is it that makes this single night any different from any other one that she has lived through? What strange occurrence occurs that makes it stand out? That changes her life forever? That changes the course of the world.

The night was cold, despite this, the home's space heater wasn't on. Neither was the heat turned up. Outside, rain pattered against the home's roof. Had someone been standing outside, the light drizzle would have misted in their hair. The streets were slick from the downpour, while brown and dying leaves lay caught in the run-off on the sides of the road. This far north, trees lost their leaves much earlier in the season.

The first sign that should have registered as danger to the princess was the lone street light on the road. Its shine brightened and intensified in its nightly purpose, until it burst and was replaced by sparks showering onto the asphalt below. It didn't catch the young alicorn's attention though, her eyes were skyward. Over the dim of the storm and among the flashes of lightning, the solitary light's life faded away, unseen.

Suddenly, the air crackled and rippled tenfold. A massive fork of lightning cascaded in the distance towards the ground, stabbing at the Earth as though it held a grudge. Her eyes widened disbelievingly at it, and a smile carved its way onto her expression. It had been so close, and she'd never seen its like before. The noise which traveled past her immediately after was deafening. She whooped in the wind, cheering, but the outcry was lost to the roaring atmosphere.

What stood in her path as she went to go back to her room was something... unexpected.
