The moon has always been a source of curiosity to Ponies. It has always there when the sun went down, and has acted as a great many things to many a pony, and was the prison for the infamous Nightmare Moon. Now, following Princess Luna's return, Princesses Celestia and Luna seek to send ponies up to the moon to conduct research on the mysterious moon of the it; and task Twilight Sparkle and the Elements of Harmony to make it happen: by training three of the very best and brightest to become Astroponies.

Unfortunately in this case, the most unexpected applicants find themselves on the shortlist to be trained as Astroponies, and are questionably the very best and brightest that Equestria has to offer; but the hopes and dreams of all of Equestria are on their shoulders.
