The sun was setting on the horizon. The sky was full of beautiful orange and pink rays. The peaceful breeze blew through the air and, through the manes of two ponies. One not aware of the other. The rainbow manned mare sat on the hill, watching the sun set, still unaware of the cowpony standing behind her. At least, she was until-
“Dash?” The orange mare asked in a calm voice.
The cyan Pegasus wiped around, her magenta eyes quickly meeting emerald ones.
“AJ! You came!” The Pegasus said with a smile.
“O’Course ah came, Dash,” The earth pony moved to sit next to her long time friend. She looked over to the horizon.
“Beautiful sun set, ain’t it?”
“Yeah,” Dash said, never taking her eyes off the orange mare.
“So,” AJ turned her attention to her cyan friend, “What’d ya want ta talk ‘bout?”
“Oh, yeah, that…” Dash rubbed the back of her head nervously.
“Rainbow Dash? You ok?”
“Yeah, it’s just that, what I want to tell you is, really hard to say…”
“Ahm your best friend, Rainbow. You can tell me.”
“I-its, just…that…uh,” Rainbow Dash stammered to find the words. She took a deep breath and said,
“I love you Applejack.”
*CRACK!*
Rainbow Dash’s eyes shot open and, she looked around. She was at Sweet Apple Acres.
*CRACK!*
Rainbow fell to the ground with a thud. She struggled to her feet and, looked up at the tree she had fallen out of. The branch she had been sleeping on broke, causing her to fall to the ground. Before Rainbow could curs at the broken limb, that now lay on the ground, she turned around after hearing a familiar voice.
“You alright, Dash?” Applejack stood in front of her with a very amused look on her face.
“Uh, yeah, I’m fine,” Dash began to rub the back of her head. That was the first part of her body to hit the ground.
“You sure? Ya hit the ground pretty hard.”
“Yeah, I’ve crashed harder than this before, trust me.”
“Alright, mind tellin me why you were sleepin in my tree?” AJ asked with a smirk.
“I sleep in that tree every day.”
“Why?”
“Cuz, uh… It’s really comfortable and I, uh, always have the best dreams there…”
“Yeah? What about?”
“Oh, um… you know.. just, uh…” Dash stammered.
Applejack raised an eyebrow curiously, her smirk never leaving her face.
“Stuff like uh, becoming a wonderbolt and… stuff…”
“Right, bein’ a wonderbolt.”
“Uh, yep! Wonderbolt! Well um, you look like you have some important stuff to do so uh, bye!”
Rainbow Dash flew off so fast she could of pulled of a sonic rainboom!
As she flew off, AJ spotted a light blush forming on Rainbow’s cyan cheeks. Apple jack chuckled at the Pegasus’s reaction, as she bucked the remaining apples off the tree.
Applejack has known for a while about Rainbow’s crush on her. Little does Dash know, that the orange mare likes her back. AJ want to tell her, her really does. The only thing is, AJ wants Rainbow to feel safe. Safe that she can share her feelings and tell the mare of her dreams just how much she feels for her. Applejack has been waiting for months, for Dash to make the first move. IF she doesn’t ask soon, AJ will take matters into her own hooves!
“That was terrible!” Rainbow yelled, her voice cracking on the last word. ‘Why didn’t I just tell her?’ she thought to herself. Why couldn’t she tell her? She trusts Applejack with her life! Why couldn’t she trust her with this? Even if Applejack doesn’t like her back, she would still be friends with her…right?
*CRASH*
Rainbow was so caught up in her thoughts she had flown head first into a tree. She slid down the base of the tree and landed on the ground. “I need help…..Fluttershy!” Dash thought out load. Fluttershy was like a sister to Rainbow Dash, she could tell her anything. Dash, after she regained herself from the crash, flew off to Fluttershy’s cottage.
After about 30 minutes of arguing with herself in front of Fluttershy’s door, Rainbow Dash finally knocked. What felt like hours were only a few seconds that she had to wait before Angle opened the door. “Oh, uh, hey Angle. Is Fluttershy home?” Angle rolled is eyes and waved Dash inside. She spotted Fluttershy sitting on the couch, brushing one of her many squirrels. “H-hey, Shy.” Rainbow said, faking a smile.
“OH! Rainbow! How nice to see you!”
“You just saw me yesterday.”
“Yes, but it’s always nice when you visit.”
“Yeah…” Dash began to fidget, which Fluttershy noticed right away.
“How about I get us some tea and then we can talk?”
“Sounds good.”
“Ok, you can just sit at the table while I get the tea. If you want to that is. You can um, stand if you like or um-“
“I’ll just sit at the table, Shy.” Rainbow gave her a warm smile. Fluttershy returned it as she trotted into the kitchen. She later came back with a tea pot and two small tea cups. She poured her and Rainbow a cup, and took a sip as she watched Rainbow fidget nervously in her seat.
“So, was there something you wanted to talk about?”
“Uh, yeah. I wanted to ask you for some advice to this…..problem, I have…”
“You can ask me anything, Dash, and I’ll try my best to help you.” Fluttershy gave her famous smile once more, which Rainbow returned, feeling a little more easy about asking.
“Well. Uh, okay say you like this pony, like a LOT! And you don’t want to tell ‘em cuz you’re scared they won’t like you back, and it will ruin your friendship. What do you do?”
“I think you need to tell Applejack how you feel.” Fluttershy said, calm as ever, while taking another sip of tea. Rainbow’s eyes grew wide and her jaw dropped.
“H-how did…how…” This was all Dash was able to say through her open jaw.
Fluttershy giggled, “I’ve known you since we were fillies, Dash. I can tell when you like somepony.”
“How long have you known?”
“A while. Probably noticed about year or so ago.”
“How did you know? I mean, I thought I was being careful!”
“Like I said, I can tell when you like somepony.”
“But how?”
“I know your tells.”
“My tells?”
“Yeah. Your nervous attitude, all the compliments you give her, the way you always jump at a chance to help her, the way you show off for her, and other ways…” Fluttershy had a devious smirk on her face.
“What other ways?”
“Well, it seems like most the time when I see you with her, you’re always staring at her flank.”
Rainbow’s ears went down and, she blushed deeply.
Fluttershy laughed,” You really got it bad for her, don’t you?”
“Yeah, I really really REALLY like her!”
“You need to tell her.”
“I know, but what if she doesn’t like me back?!”
“You won’t know until you don’t ask.”
“But what if she doesn’t like me back and she doesn’t want to be friends with me anymore?!”
“I’m sure Applejack will still be friends with you.”
Rainbow didn’t respond, but she didn’t seem any calmer, either.
“Rainbow, in every relationship you need to trust one another. If you want any chance of being with Applejack, you need to trust her with your feelings.”
Rainbow Dash sighed and said, “Yeah, I guess you’re right…”
“Good, so when are you going to tell her?”
“I’ll tell her later today.”
“Good.”
“Thanks for the help, Shy.”
“I’ll always be there to help you, Dash.”
“Hey, can I barrow a piece of paper and something to write with?”
“Sure.”
*30 minutes later *
After shareing a friendly huge, Rainbow Dash headed torwards the CMC clubhouse.
Before knocking on the door, Rainbow over heard part of the Crusaders’ next attempt at getting there cutie marks.
“I don’t know about this, guys.”
“Do you want to get your cutie mark or not?”
“Yes, but not one for dying!”
“We’ll be wearing pair shoots!”
“But what if it’s defective?!”
“Defective? What are you a dictionary? It’s not going to be defective!”
“How do you know it wont be?!”
“Girls! Cut it out! I’m with Sweetie Bell on this one. We could get really hurt doin’ this, Scootaloo!”
“Come on you guys! It’ll be awesome!”
Rainbow snickered at the conversation before finally knocking on the door.
Once they all yelled for Rainbow to enter, she did so.
“Rainbow Dash!” Scootaloo yelled, as she ran up to her ideal.
“Hey Scoots, just the filly I wanted to see.” Rainbow said, as she ruffled the filly’s mane.
“Really?!”
“Yep! I need you to do me a favor.”
“Sure, what is it?”
“I need you to put this little costume on, and give this to Applejack.” Rainbow handed her an envelop with Applejack's name on it.
“Hey Rainbow, if ya want I could give it to her when I go back home later.” Applebloom offered.
“Thanks for the offer, but I kind of need Scoots to do this.”
“Alright…”
“Get that to her as soon as possible all right, Squirt?”
“Will do!” Scootaloo saluted her with a serious expression on her face.
Dash snickered at the filly’s antics.
“Thanks. See you guys later!”
“Bye Rainbow Dash!” The crusaders yelled, as Rainbow left.
Hearing a knock at the door, Applejack left the kitchen to answer it.
She was surprised to see one of the crusaders standing at her front door. Judging by the way the Pegasus filly was dressed, Applejack guessed this had something to do with the CMC getting their cutie marks.
“Telegram,” the orange filly said as she handed the envelope, Rainbow Dash had given her earlier, to Applejack.
“Uh, thanks.” Applejack happily took it, and snickered as the filly pranced off giddily.
Once Applejack was in her room, she opened the enveloped letter, and begun to read:
Dear Applejack.
Sorry I had to leave so suddenly. I was just wondering if later we could meet up? If you can that is. I really need to talk to you. It’s really important. Meet me at the hill around 5:30. If you can that is.
Your Friend,
Rainbow Dash.
Rainbow wants to talk? Could it be about her feelings? Only one way to find out. After realizing the letter was from Dash, it makes sense that Scootaloo brought it to her. Rainbow could get her to do anything!
Dash must really be nervous about this talk. She sounded more like Fluttershy then the hyper active athlete that AJ knows and loves. Well, there’s only one way to find out what’s on Rainbow’s mind.
The sun was setting on the horizon. She sat there, letting the peaceful breeze blow through her mane of two ponies. There, she sat on the hill just like her dream. Only, this wasn’t a dream. It was very very real. She sat there, more nervous than at the young flyers compotation, with only one thing on her mind.
“Dash?”
Rainbow Dash quickly spun around, her magenta eyes meeting emerald ones. The emerald eyes that belong to her best friend, and mare of her dreams, Applejack.
“AJ! You came!”
“O’Course ah came, Dash,” Applejack moved to sit next to the cyan mare.
“Beautiful sun set, ain’t it?” She looked over to the horizon.
“Yeah,” Dash said, never taking her eyes off Applejack. ‘This is just like my dream!’ Dash thought. It was like her dream, only very real. ‘This is it.’ She thought. ‘It’s now or never.’
“AJ?” Rainbow said, in the calmest voice she could muster.
“Yeah, Dash?” Applejack turned, giving the Pegasus her full attention.
“I, uh, got to tell you something.”
“What’s that, sugarcube?”
“I-it’s, just, that, uh…” Rainbow Dash stammered. She was never good at explain all that feeling stuff.
“It’s, just…I just…I-I,” Dash closed her eyes and took a deep breath to steady herself.
Applejack saw the distress of the Pegasus, and decided to say something. Or try rather.
“Dash, ah-“
“I love you Applejack!”
AJ sat in slight shock from the sudden outburst.
“I-I’ve liked you since the day we first meet. I wanted to tell you, but I didn’t think you liked me back, and I didn’t want to get turned down and look like a moron so I didn’t tell you and then I thought about if you even like mares in that way so then I felt like you would be mad at me for accusing you of being a fillyfooler, and that you would hate me and not want to be my friend anymore, and I didn’t want to risk that so I didn’t say anything. Then I felt like a terrible friend for accusing you of hating me, so I was going to tell you, but then I got scared you would reject me so I didn’t, and then—“
Rainbow’s constant rambling was silenced by a pair of lips.
They left as quick as they came, leaving the Pegasus quit shocked.
“You’re awful cute when you’re flustered like that.” Applejack gave her a sweet smile, with a hint og blush on her cheeks.
“W-what?” was all Rainbow could say through the shock and confusion.
Applejack chuckled and said, “I like you to, Dash. Maybe not for as long as you have, but ah still care for ya.”
“B-but,” Dash stammered, “Do you even like mares that way?”
Applejack laughed again. “I go either way, shug.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really. Ah don’t lie, Dash.”
Rainbow Dash sat there, a huge grin forming on her face.
“So…Do you…want to be with me?”
“Like how?” Applejack had a devious smirk on her face. She knew what Dash meant, but she wanted her to say it.
“Y-you know…be WITH me…?”
Applejack’s smirk grew wider as she raised an eyebrow.
Rainbow’s eyes went wide and her face turned redder then Big Macintosh’s coat, once she realized what she had said.
“Wait! I-I didn’t mean it in that way! U-unless you want it to mean that…Wait! I-I mean uh…”
AJ started laughing once more, “Your face is redder then the apples that grow on ma trees!”
Rainbow sat there, unsure of what to say.
“Ok, sugarcube. Take a deep breath and think about what ya want ta ask.”
Dash took a deep breath to steady herself, and began to think. She sat there for a few minutes before finally saying, “Applejack?”
“Yeah, sugarcube?”
“Will you be my marefriend?”
“Yeah,” Applejack, without warning, leaned forward and kissed Rainbow Dash with as much passion as possible. Rainbow happily returned it.
It was finally happening. After years of worrying and hiding her true feelings, Rainbow Dash was finally with the mare of her dreams. This is how it ends. This is how it would have always ended. After countless dreams of her and Applejack, this is how they all would have ended, have they not disturbed each time. She was happy, and so was Applejack.
And that! My dear ponies, is how you make an rainbowapple pie!!! If you catch my drift
