//-------------------------------------------------------// Eyes for the Blind -by nack287- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 “C’mon, C’mon! The line’s over here!” The young pony I was foalsitting cried, pushing me towards what sounded like more of a crowd than a line. “Okay, okay, stop shouting, I’m blind, not deaf.” She giggled. Her name was North Wing. She was an energetic little filly, constantly bouncing around, always getting into trouble. My name is Sunset Bloom, I’m blind, been blind since I was born. I’m rather calm, and some ponies say I’m rather playful. I generally take it slow, I find it mildly necessary, being blind and all; I always have to be escorted by somepony else, usually North Wing. Like I said, I’m her foalsitter… though the more fitting term is nanny. Suffice it to say, I prefer foalsitter. North Wings mother isn’t around often, working, her father is usually out of Ponyville on business too. Anyway, we were going to go see Rainbow Dash, one of North Wing’s favorite ponies. We were going to a book signing for Rainbow Dash’s recently published account of her experiences as one the Elements of Harmony. “Do ya think she’ll say hi?” North Wing asked me hopefully, I nodded of course. “Of course she will Northy, who wouldn’t?” I heard more ponies gather behind me, some brushing against me. I heard one mother, who sounded extremely stressed, explaining why they couldn’t go get ice cream after the signing to her son. Her son of course whined a bit, but finally settled down when his mother said that they’d get some tomorrow. North Wind gave my tail a tug, signaling me to move forward. I did so, and she asked, “Why can’t you see Sunset?” I sighed, “I was born that way Northy…” “No, I mean… why, I know you were born that way, but why were you born that way?” I blinked, and began to open my mouth to respond, but closed it before anything escaped, I began to speak again, “I… I don’t know. My mother never told me why, just that I was special.” She tugged on my tail again, I took another few steps. “What’s your talent then?” I shrugged, “I don’t know if it’s true, but my mother told me that my cutie mark was a flower, for gardening I suppose.” I sighed, mildly frustrated by the filly’s questioning, and I knew there was more to come. The mother behind us swore, and I felt a rough poke on my back. “Hey! The line’s moving, let’s go!” I looked back toward the source of the voice, “Sorry, I can see…” I took a step forward, and ran into somepony’s back, who then swore at me. “WHAT THE BUCK!? WHY’D YOU DO THAT?” I was taken aback, and I backed up slightly, “Sorry… I didn’t mean to…” “DIDN’T MEAN TO!?” I could feel his saliva on my face, he must of turned and gotten much closer, “WHAT THE BUCK DOES THAT MEAN!? ARE YOU BLIND OR SOMETHING!?” I hesitated, then nodded, “Yes sir, I am….” His rage subsided, “Oh… well, don’t do it again…” He let out a huff, then walked forward in line, me and North Wing followed suit. After the reprieve, North Wing resumed her interrogation. Finally, after almost an hour of questioning, we’d arrived at the table where Rainbow Dash was, “Hey kiddo, what’s your name?” North Wing told the mare her name, as she did so, I was digging through my saddle bags, feeling for my notepad. “And yours?” Rainbow Dash asked, obviously towards me, “Sunset Bloom…” I responded, pulling my notepad out, putting the notepad on the table, and nudging it towards what I thought was her general direction. I heard the scribbling of a pen, and North Wing nudged me signaling for me to pull the pad back. I did so, and heard Rainbow Dash chuckle, “You must be blind or something man. That isn’t the book, but still, thanks for coming, I love meeting fans.” I nodded, “I am blind ma’am, I don’t have the book, I can’t read it…” I heard he take a sharp breath, and nodded, brushing North with a leg so I could follow her. “Anyway, thanks for signing the book and stuff, Northy here is practically in love with you.” I heard her sigh as we turned to go away. “Next?” We walked away, and North jumped onto my back, using her wings to give her a small boost. “That was fun! Thanks Sunset!” I nodded, “Ice cream? I’m payin’.” She gasped, “Yes! Of course!” I sighed, she was so excitable about food… “You have to guide me.” I added, and she began tugging my mane in the direction I had to go. After we had our ice cream, I walked North Wing home. Where I put her in her bed, and tucked her in for a nap. Soon after I was certain the active filly was sleeping peacefully, I went into my room, flopping onto the bed, and yawning in exhaustion. I was extremely tired, I always was whenever I took North Wing into town. Today seemed more exhausting than usual, I had no idea why, I usually cause a commotion on accident, but today’s seemed to be more exasperating. I sighed and closed my eyes, yawning again, I was ready to take a nap myself, and soon enough, I was asleep. After what felt like hours of sleep, I was woken by a tiny hoof poking me. “Sunset… I had a bad dream…” She said groggily, “Can I nap with you?” I sighed, and nodded, “Yeah… sure… c’mon…” I rolled over, now lying on my stomach; I felt the bed move as she got in. “Thanks Sunset…” I sighed again, and she moved closer to me, “Nighty night…” I nodded and patted her head. North Wing soon fell asleep, and I followed suit in no time. When the time came to get up, I did so hesitantly, not wanting to leave the warm embrace of the bed. North Wing’s mother thanked me, gave me my pay, and gave me a meal to heat up when I got home, then wished me a good night and told me to tell my coltfriend she said hi. When I got home, I heard Ren in the kitchen, I sighed and called out, “Ren! I’m home; Star Gust gave us food to make!” He stopped making noise and called back, “Awesome! Star’s really cool, isn’t she?” He asked as he walked towards the couch. I nodded of course, and smiled, sitting next to my earth pony lover and quickly embracing him. “Love ya….” He chuckled and gave me a quick kiss, “I love you too Sunset.” After that, we got up, he took the container of food and began cooking. It was nice vegetable lasagna, fresh made by Star Gust. She always made the best food. Soon after eating dinner, we both went to the bedroom and plopped on the bed. He hugged me and kissed me, wishing me a good night. I returned the favor and nodded, silently wishing him a good night. After which we both quickly fell asleep in each other’s embrace. Author's Note So, yeah first story on fimfiction, criticism is much appreciated. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 I walked beside my coltfrend, between Ren and North Wing. “So, where do you want to eat North?” Ren asked the filly. She hummed while thinking, “Hmm…. How about… the Ponyville Café?” I nodded. “Sure! I’m paying, right?” I asked, eliciting a laugh from Ren, “If you want dear, I’ve got it if you don’t want to.” I nodded again, confirming that I was paying. “So, how’d the book signing go North?” “It went pretty well, there was a bit of confusion… but otherwise we both really liked it!” I chuckled, “Yeah, we both did, Rainbow Dash seemed surprised by my disability…. And it also caused some problems in line, but nothing too bad, just the usual.” I heard a grunt of approval from the birdkeeping stallion. “That’s good, shame about the commotion though.” “Turn,” North Wing said, Ren and I turned, “Stop.” We stopped, now in line. “So, what are you gonna get?” I asked both ponies, “Hmm… probably just some tea, I’m not hungry.” Ren replied, and I nodded, “I’ll get a daisy sandwich.” North Wing added, pushing between me and my coltfriend. I sighed, and took my wing off of Renwood, allowing her to stand between us. “Why don’t you like mares Sunset? My daddy says that loving other stallions is a sin.” She asked nonchalantly. “Well, you see, your daddy is an uneduca-“ I cut Ren off. “Not here Ren.” I said as Renwood grumbled. “Well you see Northy, I love Renwood just like your daddy loves your mom, the only difference is that Ren’s a stallion.” She thought about it for a moment, “But… two stallions can’t have a foal…” She “said curiously, “No… but we still love each other, and when we get to that point, we’ll adopt a foal.” Renwood explained, with me nodding as the line progressed. “Also, the sex is great.” He added, and I stopped nodding abruptly. “Renwood!” I exclaimed, my face heating up. “Northy doesn’t need to know about our habits in the bedroom…” I chuckled, my mind going towards the figurative gutter. After a brief fantasy, my focus returned to reality. In about 5 minutes we had been seated and our orders were being taken. “I’ll have… the HLT…” (Hay Lettuce Tomato) I told the waiter who read the menu to Ren and me. I heard him scribble something down on a scratchy note pad, he then asked North Wing, “And what would you like young ma’am?” “Uh… um… daisy sandwich… and… uh… hay fries!” She responded, with pauses between each word. I heard the pen on the waiter’s pad again and then I heard him walk away, obviously frustrated at how long it took to take our orders. “So… my daddy’s coming home for a month soon.” North Wing said, causing me to perk my ears up, “Oh, Really? When?” “In two days! I can’t wait to show him you and Ren!” I smiled and nodded, “I can’t wait to meet him Northy! What’s he do again?” She laughed, “Sunset, I’ve told you twice already, he’s an executive for some company, he’s usually away on business trips.” I nodded, “Okay… okay… well, I’m sure Ren and I will love him!” Soon after, our food arrived and the conversation died down for the most part, save for awkward small talk every now and again. Ren put a leg around my neck and leaned on me as I ate, nuzzling me slightly. “Thanks Sunset…” He gave me a short, tight hug and I smiled, and then nodded in gratitude. I finished my sandwich, “You done North Wing?” I asked the filly, who I could hear slurping up some of her drink through a straw. The slurping stopped, and I heard her burp quietly, “Y-yes…” I could practically hear her blushing. The pony next to me let go, and I felt him stand up. I followed suit, and heard North Wing also stand. We were guided to the cash register by a waiter, who then proceeded to charge me 60 bits for the entire meal. “Sixty bits!? Last time it was only 45!” I exclaimed, and heard him chuckle. “Yeah, well we raised the price, okay?” I opened my mouth to try and argue, but Ren put a hoof on my back. “Okay, okay, calm down Sunset… here, I’ll pay.” He sighed and I heard the jingle of his coin purse then several bits bouncing on the desk. “Keep the change.” He said, and lead me away from the desk, out the entrance of the café. The rest of the day was uneventful, we went to the park, and took North Wing to a play that Ren and I loved listening to, a musical. He was snuggling me the entire time, and I enjoyed it, falling asleep once. After the play we headed to North Wing’s home, upon arriving, we heard her gasp. “DADDY’S HOME!” Her hoofsteps made a loud din as she charged up the stone path and into the house. Ren and I followed, holding each other lovingly. When we entered the home, we were introduced to a sudden silence, nopony spoke until we heard a new voice, probably belonging to North Wing’s father. “So… this is the babysitter I’ve heard so much about?” I nodded slowly, his tone sounded mildly hateful. “I wasn’t aware he was… one of them.” He put emphasis on the word ‘them’. “What do you mean by ‘them’?” Ren asked cautiously, “By the way, you can stop glaring, we’re both blind.” I nodded in agreement, feeling his knife like glare subside. “By ‘them’ I mean a colt cuddler. Get out of my house, I don’t want you anywhere near my daughter, you filthy perverts.” Both Renwood and I were taken aback, but I felt him nod, and begin to turn. My mouth was open, and I was unable to form words. “C’mon Sunset…” I turned and followed Renwood solemnly “Bye Northy…” I sighed and walked through the door. That night Ren and I were laying in bed, snuggling with each other. “I… I can’t believe what happened… I knew that Star Gust’s husband didn’t like colt cuddlers… but… I didn’t know it was that bad… never foalsit North Wing? I don’t know if I can do it…” Ren kissed me and petted my mane. “Don’t worry Sunset, it’ll be alright… we’ll be fine…” He comforted me gently, and I sighed, falling asleep with him hugging me and petting my mane.
