The Story of the Elements of Harmony

Here is a question for everypony: What are the elements of harmony?  There are six elements: kindness, generosity laughter, loyalty, honesty, and magic. We are shown over the course of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that magic is the lead element and that it grows over the series. Twilight becoming an alicorn completed the element of magic. So we can draw out at least one conclusion here: clearly the element of magic is the most important element. Well, no. The five other elements are the real keys to the equation. How? Well, all in due time. Also note that the element of magic is not referred to as the element of friendship. This is only Twilights interpretation of what the element represents. There is actually multiple ways they could wield the elements. The four forms of love could be used to wield the elements. There is storge (Stor-je) which means love for a family member, agape which means love for god, eros which means sexual love, and philia which means friendship. Our first known use of the elements is against Discord, then they may or may not have been used against King Sombra, and finally against nightmare moon. Here is the story.

When Celestia and Luna first found the element, they were oversized, simply shaped, neatly cut, non-set, multicolored gemstones. They were divided between Celestia and Luna. It doesn't really matter who held which element as long as they held an equal amount and Luna held the element of magic. The elements were used against discord and after that, one of the elements vanished. This element, being the weakest at the time was the element of magic. This has a lot to do for the reason of Luna becoming nightmare moon. Luna felt that her night went unappreciated and was overshadowed by her elder sisters day. They still had a bond, but it was growing weak. Eventually, Luna lost it and there was clearly nothing holding Luna back from becoming nightmare moon. Celestia adopted the other two elements that Luna held and they transformed from gemstones to gemstone orbs and a new element of magic was formed. Although the original element of magic revolved around storge, this element of magic revolved around agape. This however made a small problem: Celestia is this universes closest equivalent to an honorable god which changed the way the elements of harmony operate to narcissism. Narcissism put the new element of magic in an enclosed environment. The way the elements work is by having the elements feed energy into each other. Celestia intended to use the five base elements and the newly reformed element of magic to purify her sister but then she ran into that problem. She instead sealed her in the moon so at a later point in time, she could purify her sister. But afterward, the elements started to reject each other and the five base elements turned to stone and the new element of magic retains its form. That element became a defect and kept on radiating unnecessary energy. So Celestia disposes of the element.

Many years later, Twilight Sparkle and the gang find the five stone based elements. Twilight may have read about the elements, but she has no idea where the sixth element is or even what it is. When twilight starts to abandon all hope of winning against nightmare moon, her friends approach and the elements have a reaction to that. Then Twilight realizes that the only way to wield the elements is with philia, friendship. The elements then evolved to their current state.

So that is the story of the elements. Only two things though: I mentioned that there are four forms of love yet only three came up. The only one that hasn't showed up is eros. That is represented in the canterlot wedding. That only leaves one question though: what happened to those other two elements of magic?

Lets start with the element of agape. That element was a defect in a way it could not be used with the other elements. But by no means was it rendered useless. Who knew that at some point in time, a unicorn may have found it and, I don't know, had it crafted into a powerful yet corrupting magic charm? The second element of magic is the alicorn amulet. Then there is the element of storge; the original element of magic. Well, have you ever stopped to wonder on how it disappeared in the first place? I am just going to start out by saying that yes; we have seen the original element of magic in present day equestria. That element was lost sometime between the sealing of discord and the sealing of nightmare moon. It was while Celestia and Luna were still together but their bond was growing weak. Say that there was a unicorn who knew of the power of the elements and wanted that power for himself. He tried to go for the element of magic because it was the weakest and he knew that is would be the easiest to aquire. Before being sealed away for a long time, he actually managed to get a hold of it causing the element to be sealed up along with him. Yes indeed. The original element of magic that still revolves around storge, is the crystal heart and that unicorn was King Sombra. What? It looks nothing like the elements? Is that so? This is one of the original elements of harmony. And you know what they looked like back then? They were, and I quote myself, "oversized, simply shaped, neatly cut, non-set, multicolored gemstones." If you ask me, the crystal heart fits that discription just fine. From what I believe, I hope and think that the elements will change a lot more. You already know the other uses for the elements: discord again, freeing discord, and magical mystery cure for purifying Twilights friends. Going back to our earlier question what are the elements of harmony? The elements are 5 ever changing manifestations that together can create a form of love. These six combined can rid the world of disharmonious stuff. That is how the elements came to be.
