There's Always Another Door
Jealousy
Load Full StoryNext ChapterIt was a warm, spring day in Ponyville. It felt like Princess Celestia had made the sun a little more bright than usual, as if she knew Sweetiebelle had a new bag. The birds were chirping away, the grass seemed greener than it was yesterday. There was even a slight breeze. It seemed as if nothing was wrong. The perfect day. The exact same thing Sweetiebelle was thinking on the way to school with Applebloom and Scootaloo. Sweetiebelle had just received a new book bag that Rarity had made especially for her. The bag was made of silk with many small diamonds sewn onto it. The silk was a light shade of purple, which reminded Sweetiebelle of Rarity's mane. The smoothness also added to the reminding of Rarity's mane. The diamonds sparkled in the sunlight of the day, blinding anypony unfortunate to stare at the diamonds. The crystals seemed to be the finest cut in all of Equestria, surpassing the Crystal Empire crystals. Sweetiebelle just continued to smile as her friends had a bored look on their faces.
“You know, I actually can’t wait to get to school,” Sweetiebelle told her friends.
“Seriously? How can you be happy to go to school?” Scootaloo must’ve thought Sweetiebelle was crazy.
“Well, it’s just I can’t wait to show this bag to everyone.”
“Sweetiebelle, its gunna get ruined if ya let everypony touch it too much,” Applebloom remarked with a small amount of concern. The thought of the bag being touched over and over again, diamonds being taken from the bag made her wish Sweetiebelle didn’t have the bag.
Sweetiebelle didn’t care what her friends said. She was just so happy to have the bag Rarity had made for her as a gift. It seemed to have sparkled brighter as the three got closer and closer to school.
Soon enough, Applebloom, Sweetiebelle, and Scootaloo had reached Ponyville Elementary. Everyone was outside, waiting for Miss Cheerilee to let them in to start the day.
“Hey, everypony, look! Sweetiebelle’s got a new bag!” one of the fillies had shouted.
In what seemed like an instant, every student galloped over to see Sweetiebelle’s new diamond-crested book bag, which sparkled in the morning sun.
“That’s so cool!”
“I want one just like it!”
“Can I have one?”
“Where’d you get it?”
“I’m jealous!”
It seemed as if Sweetiebelle was the biggest celebrity in all of Equestia, getting showered with more and more comments and questions. But, she didn’t mind at all, she actually liked the attention, it made her feel like a princess.
As all the students were admiring Sweetiebelle’s new bag, two weren’t. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were standing outside the group, not caring for the fact that Sweetiebelle had a new, sparkling, diamond-crested bag. They could’ve cared less about the bag if they wanted to.
“I bet she thinks she’s so cool with her new bag. It’s so lame.” Diamond Tiara crudely said out loud.
“Mmhmm.” Silver Spoon agreed.
“I could get one with more diamonds and everypony would pay attention to me instead of the blank flank over there.”
Over all the commotion, Miss Cheerilee was able to be project her voice over all the noise to notify all the students that it was time for class. As everyone walked inside, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon walked at a little slower.
“Let’s make sure that Sweetiebelle knows that her new bag is terrible, just as she is.” Diamond Tiara growled.
The two hurried up so Miss Cheerilee wouldn’t get mad at them for being late for class again. As the two went in, though, Diamond Tiara felt a strange sense that she never before towards Sweetiebelle. She was jealous. She didn't know why. She could the same bag in the blink of an eye from her father. When she was thinking about this, she almost walked into the door frame, causing the students to laugh. She shrugged it off and sat down. For some reason, no mater how hard she tried, she just couldn't stop thinking about that bag, which hung neatly in the locker third from the left, in a row of 18 lockers. Diamond Tiara was slipping away from the lesson at hand and into her thoughts.
"Why couldn't I have been the one to get a bag like that. Sweetiebelle doesn't even deserve it. I do! It not fai-"
"Diamond Tiara! Miss Cheerilee shouted. "Stop daydreaming and pay attention to the lesson. Anyways, it's very easy to find the..."
Diamond Tiara slipped into dream world again, not caring very much for what was being taught. She just couldn't stop thinking about that diamond-encrusted bag. Was it the way it looked or the way the diamonds were carefully sown on? Or maybe it was the silk? Diamond Tiara didn't know. There were too many things running through her head for her to focus on one thought. She thought about listening to the lesson to help her take her mind off the bag for awhile. After debating, she decide that she would just listen to Miss Cheerilee talk about math or whatever subject it was.
"I'll just think about it after class," Diamond Tiara mumbled to herself.
"Miss Tiara, did you say something?" questioned Miss Cheerilee, a little annoyed with Diamond Tiara's attitude of not caring about what was being taught.
"What? No, Miss Cheerilee."
"OK. Good. Now, when you get the average..."
Diamond Tiara finally focused on the lesson to help her get her mind off of Sweetiebelle's book bag. There had to be a way to get Sweetiebelle back for having a very nice bag, better than her's. But how? That was the question that kept running through her head for the school day.
"Psst! Silver Spoon!" Diamond Tiara whispered.
"What?"
"Do you have any idea how to let Sweetiebelle know her bag is the worst thing ever?"
"No. Why?"
"I don't know, I was just wonderin-"
"Girls!" Miss Cheerilee said to Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon with an annoyed, raised tone, "Please stop talking while I'm in the middle of a lesson. Unless you two want to stay after school today for a lesson on paying attention.
"Yes, Miss Cheerilee." Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon said in unison.
"Good. Anyways..."
I'll figure this out later, Diamond Tiara thought, knowing Miss Cheerilee couldn't hear her thoughts.
