The Cutie Mark Crusaders were all gathered outside their clubhouse. They had set up their things for another day of crusading under a shady tree where a cool wind was coming in. They had many school textbooks spread around the place, and had a large chalkboard with math equations on it. They seemed fairly easy to someone who had done algebra, but for somepony who hadn’t, it looked like a bunch of gibberish.
“ Ah wonder if we could get out cutie marks in math!” Apple Bloom exclaimed happily as she started to multiply a large number for perhaps the fifteenth time, getting it wrong the other fourteen times.
Scootaloo groaned,” I don’t know, Apple Bloom. This is hard! I don’t think Ms. Cherilee has taught us anything like this before… Come to think of it, she hasn’t!”
Sweetie Belle, being her normal perky self said,” Then we’ll be ahead in class! Then maybe we could skip a grade!” She hopped around a bit going from a grammar textbook to a math textbook. “ Wait a second! There are letters in math!?”
The orange filly exclaimed,” Letters in math!? But-I-don’t… How? This doesn’t even make sense!” as she fumbled on her words.
All of them were just as baffled as the next, neither being more or less until Apple Bloom spoke up.
The young earth pony looked at the problem that the other two were looking at,” Yea those do-hi-ma-whatchits help you find ta product or somethin’ like that. They’re in multiplication, I think… or addition… or subtraction… or division…” She trailed off slightly.
The three of them then got back to work, a lot of groans and frustrated sighs being heard. All of them were starting to wonder if this was such a good idea.
There were then two voices coming towards the three fillies; one posh and fancy while the other was rustic and southern, yet they both had one thing in common; they were more adult- grown mares to be exact.
“ Sweetie Belle? Sweeti- Oh there you are, darling. What are you up to?” asked the white unicorn known as Rarity.
The unicorn filly said happily,” We’re doing math, and stuff! Also, I made you this!” She quickly went over to her older sister, holding up a necklace for her. It didn’t look like much, though the young unicorn was quite proud of it. Best not to ruin her moment.
“ Why, Sweetie Belle. Thank-you so much,” Rarity gushed, and then gave her little sister a hug.
Apple Bloom then went over to her sister,” Hi, Applejack!” she exclaimed.
“ Hey, Sugarcube,” the orange mare then took off her brown hat, placing it on her sister’s head,” Lookie that! It almost fits ya!” The two southern ponies then laughed a little.
The two sister pairs then started to talk as they started to make their way to their homes, leaving behind somepony else.
Scootaloo watched them leave, waving her hoof at them a bit, saying quietly,” Bye, girls…” She hung her head down a bit, sighing. “ This always happens,” she mumbled. She then felt some rain drops start to drop down on her slowly. “ They just left me here…” The rain started to get heavier, and soon it was pelting against the small filly, hurting her slightly, though it was the least of her problems at the moment. Before she knew it, Scootaloo was starting to cry, and was pouring her eyes out just as hard and heavily as the rain around her was going. Between her silent sobs, she would speak,” Why don’t I have a sister like Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle? Why don’t I have anyone to look up to? Why don’t I have the family I always wan-“
She was cut off by a sudden break in the rain. She looked up, seeing a beam of light coming through the opening of the thunderclouds. It warmed up her cold, shivering body. There was then a blue figure looming over the hole,” Hey, squirt,”
Scootaloo made a huge smile,” Dash!” she exclaimed wiping her tears away, trying to look tough for her role-model. I bet Dash doesn’t cry… thought the orange filly.
Rainbow Dash then flew down from the spots she was perched on, leaving the hole open to literally shed some light on the situation at hoof.
Scootaloo looked at the cyan blue mare with a slightly puzzled look,” How come you’re here?” she asked, still trying to be tough, though was intensely relieved to not be alone anymore.
“ You know me, squirt. I have Dash Senses. It’s like the Pinkie Sense, but instead it let’s me know when I need to cheer up a number one fan,” she said jokingly.
Scootaloo smiled brightly up at her idol, her tears gone. Before she knew it, she was swept from her hooves, and embraced in a hug.
“ Hey, Scoots. Remember, I’ll never leave you. You’re like my little sister, and family stays together,”
The orange filly hugged back tightly,” You’re the best…” she said quietly.
“ Naw, you are, kid,”
The two just sort of sat there for a while, but then Scootaloo got up, looking around,” When will the rain stop?” she asked.
Rainbow Dash looked up,” We, the Weather Team, were planning on having it for another hour or so, but we could always do something like go visit friends or something…” She started to throw in random ideas that were coming to mind.
“ Hmm…” was all that escaped the both of their mouthes.
The cyan blue mare’s face then lit up,” Oh! We could see a movie!”
Scootaloo smiled a bit,” Yea! I think Daring Do is in theaters!” For a second, though, the smile faded as she remembered being chased into the movies by Babs Seed before they became friends. It turned into a smile once more when she thought about them being friends.
“ Aw-Yea! Let’s see “Daring Do and the Quest for the Sapphire Stones!” exclaimed Dash. She might have been more excited than the filly was about this.
Scootaloo then started to trot a bit,” Come on! Let’s go!”
Rainbow Dash shook her head, picking up Scootaloo, and placing her on her back. She then shot into the sky,” Hold on, squirt,” and with that they were off. I now know that I have a big sister. A big sister who is tons of fun, and could be like Rarity and Applejack. Maybe even better! Her name is Rainbow Dash…
