Chapter II: "I'll always love you, no matter what."

Previous Chapter

The Griffin shot upright in his bed, his wings jutting outwards from his back, his eyes wide, and his heart beating faster than a humingbird flapped it's wings.

The Mare was the second to wake, and only seconds after him, her own heart racing, and just as frightened as she was confused.

Without hesitation, she did the first thing that came to her mind, which was to pull her coltfriend into a tight hug, where she'd try her best to calm him down, and try she did.

Stroking a hoof up and down his back, she whispered, "It's alright, it was just a dream...you're alright, I'm here..."

"It seemed so real," he mused.

The Mare slowly pushed away, releasing The Griffin from the hug, but kept her voice low, asking, "What did? Your dream?"

He nodded a silent response, and she shook her head, chuckling a bit as she did so.

"Come on, it was just a dream."

"But what if it wasn't?"

Bothof them stopped moving, The Mare falling silent as The Griffin continued.

"What if it wasn't just a dream? What if, one day, you really do die because of me? What if this doesn't work like we want it to?"

She pulled him into another hug, forcing him to be the silent one while she took over.

"Please, baby, it was just a dream. Your brain was dwelling on too many bad things, and now look at you; you're all worked up over nothing."

"What about you—"

"I'll also tell you right now that anything you could ever do wouldn't kill me, even if you meant for it to. You should know better than anyone that I'm good for more things than just looking pretty."

She flashed him a seductive look at the end of her response, causing him to blush as he continued his now-pointless questioning. She shook her head and smiled while he searched for a way to get across his next thought.

"Do you think we could still be together? You know, since you're a pony, and I...I'm just a griffin..."

"Now, what kind of question is that? Of course we'd still be a couple!"

"Really?"

"Are you kidding me? Sure, a relationship like ours is far from normal, but who cares? I mean, you do love me, right?"

The Griifin looked shocked.

"Of course!"

"I love you, too. See?"

He shrugged his shoulders, nodding his head, saying, "I guess..."

"Hey, quit talking like that. You know that I care about you, and I know that you're the same for me. Quit being such a loser about this."

He heaved a sigh, settling back into his spot on the right side of the bed, pulling the covers back up to his neck.

The Mare looked over him as he closed his eyes, silently worrying about him. She knew he wasn't asleep, and probably still wouldn't be long after she actually was, and she wasn't sure if he actually knew how much she really did love him.

The Mare quickly leaned over The Griffin, planting a soft kiss on his beak, then retreating back to her side of the bed.

As the covers finally came to rest at her neck, she mumbled, "I'll always love you, no matter what..."

The Griffin smiled, knowing that she meant it, but couldn't escape the feeling that something was wrong between the two of them, and that he was causing whatever it was.
