Hurricane Blossomforth

Chapter 2

-Next Morning: Manehattan Central Park-

It's morning in Manehattan as every single pegasus comes for morning practice. Every pegasi shows up in the middle of Central Park, with a running track to help practice. All of the pegasi are training or streching to start participating in testing their wing power. Some pegasi are either lifting weights with their wings, or doing push ups with them. Spitfire asked Daring last night about anypony with scientific experience. Daring then asked Twilight to help her take notes and record everyponies progress over the course of the week. Twilight and Spike then show up with a miniature windmill with a meter attached to it. They both put the device near the track about a few meters ahead of the starting line. Daring and Spitfire are overseeing all of the pegasi training and seeing their overall progress. The rest of the Wonderbolts are spread about and overseeing some training as well, save for Soarin who is coughing. Blossomforth has shown up for support, but knows she may have to participate eventually.

"Alright everypony, line up!", shouts Spitfire.

All of the pegasi have gathered in a bunch in front of Spitfire and Daring. The Wonderbolts are on the sides of the group. Daring then goes up to speak.

"Alright since we're all here, it's time to begin our training.", says Daring.

Everypony cheers with one over muscular stallion cheering 'yeah' at the top of his lungs. Daring looks at the huge turnout with an estimate of 200 pegasi showing up. Daring figured there had to be more pegasi in Manehattan, but thinks that some didn't show cause of other business or are not qualified.

"We'll be having all of you fly on the track to test your overall maximum wing power. Since all of us need to total 800 wing power, we'll add everypony's wing power. If you all train for a whole week, you'll bring your maximum wing power up. We'll record your wing power today, then next week we'll record again and see if we're prepared to move the reservoir water then. So I want everypony to bring their maximum wing power to at least 10.0 wing power, got it?", Daring says with a fierce tone.

Everypony cheers again with the white muscular stallion shouting 'yeah' again.

A cough comes from near the group. Spitfire gets annoyed again by this.

"Is that you again Soarin? I swear,  I don't want you spreading germs to our team.", Spitfire sighs in an annoyed matter.

Twilight uses her magic to move an air freshener and use it near Soarin.

"It wasn't me Spitfire, Cloudchaser coughed this time.", says Soarin.

"Playing the blame game this time? Well, if you be so kind as to demonstrate for us on the use of the windmill device, go ahead. If you refuse, no pies for week for you!", shouts Spitfire.

Soarin sighes and goes ahead to the track as Cloudchaser behind him coughed.

Soarin is at the starting line and getting ready to take off. The pegasi go near Twilight and Spike to understand their device.

"So explain to us how this works?", asks a pegasus.

"Well, this is an anemometer. It measures your accelerative velocity and translates it into wing power, thus gauging your cumulative H2O anti-gravitational potential. Any other questions?" gleefully says Twilight with a happy grin on her face.

"Yeah well, what does this machine do?", as she turns to Spike for a better explanation.

"It tells you how fast you're flying and how strong your wings are.", says Spike.

Spike knew Twilight would talk in a manner nopony would understand. The pegasi got an explanation, but this annoyed Twilight.

Soarin gets ready to take off, and is waiting for a signal. Spitfire then blows a whistle and Soarin takes off. Soarin flies at his top speed and passes the anemometer and measures his speed. Twilight sees this as Spike writes down the wing power. "13.2 wing power. Not bad for a Wonderbolt.", says Twilight.

"Oh please, I'll show you how a real Wonderbolt does it.", says Spitfire with a smug look.

Spitfire gets up to the starting line and gets ready to take off. She then takes off and passes by Twilight in what was like a second. The speed is so fast it created a wind current that almost flew everypony, even Blossomforth in the distance near the flowerbed, off their hooves.

"16.5 wing power, my goodness!", says Twilight in shock and awe.

All of the pegasi, even Daring is impressed. Everypony cheers at this amazing strength they all witnessed.

"Okay then, let see what I can do.", says Daring.

Daring goes to the starting line and preps herself. Spitfire blows the whistle as Daring then takes off. Daring flies off and passes Twilight with a strong gust passing by.

"14.7 wing power! You could join the Wonderbolts if you wanted to!", says Twilight in a shock.

"Nah, I'm fine sticking to archaeology. These babies help me get out of any sticky situation when I need them most.", says Daring in a chilled manner.

"Well anyway Daring, let's make room for everypony else to fly.", says Spitfire.

Daring agrees to this and motions for more to come and record their wing power.

Over the course of an hour, almost of all of the pegasi went and averaged around 8.5 wing power. So there is still room for improvement for a week. After every pegasi went, and all of the their wing power is recorded, but only one is left to record, Blossomforth. Daring sees this and goes over to Blossomforth near the flowerbed. Daring coughed to get her attention, and Blossomforth turned around to see Daring standing behind her.

"C'mon Blossom, you need to record your wing power.", says Daring in a calm and mannered tone.

"Sorry Daring I don't think I can do much for you.", says Blossomforth with a displeased look.

"Why not?"

"I only came for moral support."

Daring knows there's something wrong with her friend. She tries avoiding the same topic yesterday and wanted answers. Daring doesn't want to pester her friend, but this wasn't Blossomforth's normal mood. So Daring tries to go for it.

"There's more to it is there?", she said this time in a very serious tone.

"No, not really." Blossomforth said in a scared tone.

"Tell me."

"I really shouldn't."

"Tell me."

"Please, I don't want to."

"Tell me!"

"Daring, I don't think it matters."

Daring, is now more angry at this, and this is scaring Blossomforth, and literally pushing her to the edge of the flowerbed. Daring is at her limit and this time goes all out.

"Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me!", Daring shouted.

This was so loud, it gets some of the other pegasi's attention, including Spitfire. Blossomforth didn't want to upset Daring more, so she finally gave in.

"Well, okay." Blossomforth takes in a deep breath and says, "I can't fly."

She then hides her face in embarrassment. Daring is confused at this statement and also cools down at getting a straight answer.

"What are you talking about? I've seen you fly before, and plus, you're a pegasus.", says Daring with a confused look on her face.

"Well, I never told you or any of our friends this but, I've never been a good flyer.", says Blossomforth still hiding her face.

"What do you mean?", asks Daring.

Blossomforth then shows her face and tells Daring her story.

When I was in flight school, I've always had a fascination for the ground instead of flying. So, because of that, and my habit of being easily distracted, I almost always fail my flight practices. I was also picked on by the other fillies and colts, and even pulled pranks on me by taking my lunch and putting it on a high cloud which I can't reach. I was fed up with that, so i decided to go to the ground and run away. When I came down to the earth, I was fascinated by all of the plants and animals that inhabited the ground. Then, I found the most beautiful meadow of flowers. I never saw so much in all of my life, at that time. I never wanted to leave, but it made me realize that I have a place to come to whenever I get sad or lonely. After I decided to go back, I made a vow to always care for those flowers that brought me so much happiness, that's when I got my cutie mark. So whenever I got the chance, I go to the nearby hill close to the clouds and smell the flowers in the meadow. So I never learned how to fly properly because of my love for the ground.

Daring is shocked to hear this from her friend.

"Why didn't you tell us before?", asks Daring, this time in a gentle tone.

"Because I'm ashamed of not being a good flier. You need all of the pegasi here to help you, and if I can't fly well, then I feel like I'm letting you down.", says Blossomforth.

Blossomforth looks like she is about to cry.

Blossomforth has her head down and hides her face away from Daring, when Spitfire comes along.

"So there's our missing pegasus.", says Spitfire. She then grabs Blossomforth and drags her to the starting line on the track.

"Hey wait Spitfire, I'm talking to her!", says Daring with an upset tone.

"It'll have to wait for now. She needs to fly ASAP!", says Spitfire in a confidant manner.

Blossomforth then stands at the starting line with Spitfire getting ready to blow the whistle. Blossomforth wants to run away, but she doesn't want to upset all of the pegasi, Daring especially. Blossomforth has no choice at this point, so she readies herself. Spitfire then blows the whistle and Blossomforth takes off. She flies what seemed only like beginner speed. Spitfire and the rest of the ponies are confused on what's happening. She then passes the anemometer with everypony having a confused look on their faces. They were all thinking, 'Is that her real speed?', or, 'Is she playing a joke on us?' Twilight then looks at the meter and is embarrassed to say anything, until Spitfire sees the meter what it's pointing on.

"2.0?! Is this thing working?", shouts Spitfire.

"It is. It's just Blossomforth didn't fly fast at all.", says Spike in a monotone voice.

Twilight smacks the back of his head for saying that. Spitfire then goes to Blossomforth for an explanation about her speed, obviously furious. In all her years of flying, she's never seen a grown pegasus have a pathetic flying speed.

"What kind of pegasus are you? How can you even have a speed of 2?!", says Spitfire shouting in Blossomforth's face.

Blossomforth is starting to tear up trying to defend herself, but couldn't get a single word out.

"I've seen flight school fillies fly faster than you. You are no pegasus who can fly, you're a butterfly with the feather flu!", Spitfire spat out this time.

Blossomforth is now having all of the tears coming down now.

"You better start getting into gear and act like a real pegasus, got it!" Otherwise, you're the most worthless and non-dependable pegasus I've ever known!, shouts Spitfire.

Blossomforth starts bawling and flew off towards town. This makes Daring furious with Spitfire.

"Look what you've done!", shouts Daring.

In all her years, Daring had never been more upset in her whole entire life. Spitfire giving Blossomforth the military talk down was uncalled for.

"What I've done? I've never seen a pegasus fly that slow since flight school. She doesn't deserve to help us, let alone manage weather.", says Spitfire still angry.

Daring has had it at this point. Everypony in the park at that point is looking at them arguing.

"Blossomforth never learned how to fly properly, so she has trouble. I was trying to get through to her until you barged in and swept her away. You may be a military pony, but you never yell in my friend's face. I can't work for a mare who acts like this to my friends.", says and angry Daring.

Daring decides to make a bold decision.

"If you can't accept it, t-then, then I quit!", shouts Daring.

Many ponies, even Twilight and Spike gasped at this remark. Spitfire stands there surprised and dumbfounded at her outburst.

"Some leader you are. Now if you excuse me, I have to go comfort my friend.", says Daring.

She then flies off to find Blossomforth in town, leaving Spitfire in a daze.

"What have I done?", says Spitfire in her shocked daze.
