Chapters The Most Powerful In Equestria
in which our story begins
The Great and Powerful Trixie was locked in battle with her most fearsome enemy. More dangerous than the Ursa Minor. More damaging than Dragons fire breath. What was this great enemy why her mother of course.
“Honestly Trixie this is sixth time you have managed to get your wagon destroyed, and this time you lost my great grandmothers hat and cloak.” Lulamoon paused only to draw enough breath to continue her tirade. “Your father and I can’t afford keep to replacing your wagon all your failures as a traveling magician, and no amount of money will ever replace the hat cloak.” Blue unicorn finished and tapped her hoof as she waited for her daughter’s apologies. Unfortunately for Lulamoon her only foal had an ego roughly three times the size of an Ursa Major.
“Excuse me mother? You can’t afford to replace my wagon.” The white haired unicorn said as she folded her right foreleg over her chest. “I have paid for every last one of my wagons except for the first one.” Trixie said. “You’ve never been able to get over the fact that I chose not to go into the family business and you’ll use any excuse that comes to hoof to get me to come back and live the rest of my life on…” Trixie shuddered as the words passed her lips. “...stage magic.”
“Just what is wrong with stage magic your great great grandmother and every mare in the family have performed in the Manehattan Theater of Magic Performance.” Lula stomped her hoof and glared at her daughter. “Until you decided you were too good for that and went off into the wilds to half flank your entire life as a wandering stage pony.”
“why you old nag I went to Princess Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns to become a proper show pony and not have to perform for the same crowd of slack jawed nimrods and unappreciative little foals!!” Trixie shouted as she headed for the stairs. “For your information I make more in a week than you do in a year and the only reason I the Great and Powerful Trrrixie would return to this hovel of yours is to retrieve my spare clothes!!!!! ” having reached the top of the stairs she slammed the door as loud as possible. Only to throw it right back open and call down “and just so you know the hat and cloak I lost were replicas I commissioned and the original is in currently in fathers office.” Having said her piece Trixie closed the door and tried to calm down and pack up her things. She had a feeling she wouldn’t be welcome back home for quite some time.
“No matter what I do it will never be good enough for my mother it’s not my fault I was borne with ambitions.” Trixie looked through a collection of capes and other garments trying to decide which ones were suitable for her trip. “This time I’ll do something that she’ll have no choice but to acknowledge the fact that I’m a supremely powerful unicorn.” She finished packing and glanced once more at the map. She’d had to pay quite a few bits for it but if it really went where it said it did she’d be able to say without a doubt she was the most magical pony in all of Equestria. Gathering her things she headed down the stairs and stopped to peer around the small wall that divided the living room form the stair. The living room was simple affair. A pair of high back chairs a three pony sofa and a small love seat. Upon one of these rested a stark white unicorn with a jet black mane and pair of square rimmed glasses perched on his brow.
“So Trixie you and your mother got into another fight.” Monochrome said as he gestured for Trixie to come into the room.
“She told you about that huh?” Trixie said as she took a seat on the opposite chair.
“My darling daughter any time you come home there’s a fight.” The stallion lit his horn and a soft white glow lifted his glasses back into place. “I am sure that you have some little scheme you’re planning but please do me, your mother, and yourself a favor.” Monochrome took one of Trixie’s hooves “Just once when you come back go to the Theater and Perform there.”
“Ugh, fine but only after I get back. Love you daddy bye.” Trixie said as she headed out the door.
--
Towards the end of the day as the sun began to set Trixie was ready to head out. Her new wagon had all of her preferred additions smooth run shocks, ant-skid treads, and a super size cup holder. Better yet she had got it much cheaper than others of the same model because she had placed the Self-locomotion enchantment herself. The look on the salespony’s face as she drove away had been absolutely priceless. As the wagon carried her along Trixie examined her map and frowned as she realized that the map hadn’t been marked with directions straight to the destination of her journey.
“Oh of all the luck.” Trixie sighed in exasperation. “No of course. Out of every city in all Equestria. The one city that acts as the first stop for this magic map is the one town to actually hate me.” She gazed at the course hoping it would change, but no matter how she wished it would change it said the first stop on her journey was Ponyville. “Well it’s been a few months I’m sure they’ve forgotten about the whole thing by now.”
Adjusting her heading and hoping for the best she set out towards Ponyville as the moon began to climb into the night sky. Trixie let out a yawn turned on the wagon light so she could see where she was going as well as alert any wildlife to her presence. She turned on a small security charm and went inside to rest without anything going wrong she would arrive in Ponyville by tomorrow morning.

As Celestia brought the sun up to begin the new day Trixie’s wagon was parked outside the limits of Ponyville. The reason the wagon had stopped owed to an enchantment on most cities and towns in Equestria that stopped self moving vehicles from entering the city limits without a driver at the reigns. Trixie herself was still asleep on the small fold out bed inside. She woke with a yawn and activated one of the more luxurious machines that came with wagon. It was machine that produced an energizing blend of chocolate, caramel, cream, sugar, and coffee that at its best would be called delicious and at its worse a cup of coffee. Trixie took the cup in her magical grip before opening a cabinet and withdrawing a large blue crystal orb and setting it on the table.
As far as unicorn talents go magic is one of the more useful. Unicorns all had magic but when your talent is magic than anything another unicorn can do you can do. “Thank you ever so much Cassandra. You’ve no idea how much this has helped me.” Trixie said to no one in particular as she took sip of her coffee. Cassandra was unicorn she had met who had the talent of foretelling disaster. Not a talent that endeared her to any one in her home town. Trixie had taken a great amount of time to learn the art she was nowhere as good at it but she knew enough to avoid most problems but some you just can’t dodge.
“Now then what do we have today.” Trixie said as she finished her coffee and turned to the crystal ball as she activated the spell. An image of a pink figure dancing surrounded by red eyed shadowy ponies. But it was evident her travels would be hindered if she did not avoid the obstacle. “Peril of pink prancing ponies.” She said as wrote the same into a small note pad which she had tucked under her hat. The image swirled and became a shimmering violet hued six pointed star with several smaller white stars. Slowly her cutie mark appeared in the background and moved forward until they stood equal with one another. “Now what does that mean?” Trixie had little time to ponder the meaning as the image changed again. A black and white stylized image of the sun it swirled, and darkness engulfed it leaving behind a scene of a devastated field littered with the bodies of dead ponies. “By Celestia’s mane whatever is going to happen is gonna be big.” Following which the ball fogged over meaning this was as far ahead as she could look.
After putting away the crystal she took the drivers position and headed into town carefully navigating the roads crowded with busy ponies heading this place or the other. As Trixie went along her way she decided there were two things she had to do today. She had to find out about that strange vision of destruction, and to visit the town library. For reasons she could not fathom Ponyville possessed a few of the rarest tomes of magic outside of the forbidden collection of spells in the Canterlot royal library.
“Excuse me little filly which way is it to the library?” Trixie asked an orange Pegasus that pulled up next to her on a scooter.
“Uhm… it’s right up ahead and to your left can’t miss it.” The Pegasus paused before adding. “It’s the big tree.” With that said the Pegasus took off again.
-
“Why on earth would you make a library out of a tree?” Trixie said out loud as she entered the library.
“Be with you in a second.” A voice called from the back room. Trixie heard quite scuffling before the door opened and lavender mare with a dark purple mane with pink stripe walked in. “Hello and welcome to The Books and Branches Library.” The mare said as she took her place behind the counter. “My name is Twilight Sparkle. How may I help you…?” Twilight sentence trailed off as she realized the mare was staring at her flank. “Um ahem.” She coughed making the other unicorn start.
“My apologizes it’s just I saw your cutie mark in a vision earlier and it took me by surprise.” Trixie explained. “Anyway do you have A History of Equis’ Greatest Unicorns?”
“Yes, I just finished it the other day.” Twilight turned to pull the book from the shelf and handed it to Trixie. “But what do you mean in a vision and what did it mean?”
“Just a little scrying spell but unfortunately I have no clue what it meant.” Trixie paused before pulling her notepad from her hat. “Have you seen this symbol any where?”
Twilight gazed at the symbol for a moment. “No I’m sorry I’ve never seen it before.” she said with a shake of her head. “But it does look an awful lot like a zebra’s design.”
Trixie took another look at the mark and facehoofed. “Yes it does indeed thank you very much Miss Sparkle.” She bowed slightly as she collected the book and went out the door. “Well now I know where I need to go.” She turned and headed into the Everfree forest.
--
“Confounded nature lucky for you you’re a protected species.” Trixie swore and fumed as the plants tangled about her and barred her path to the trail she had spotted. While Trixie was no expert tracker she could recognize a zebra’s tracks when she saw them. Finally struggling free from the plants she followed them along a hoof trodden pathway until she found a smallish hut nestled between some trees and some odd looking blue flowers. Walking up to the hut she knocked on the door.
“A welcome to you, Zecora is pleased to meet you.” The zebra said as she opened the door to the hut. Trixie only needed a passing glance at Zecora cutie mark to see it was the same sigil from her vision.
Trixie paused as she formulated her sentence and then put her A+ second language class to work. “A pleasure to meet you Zecora. My name is Trixie.”
“You speak Zebranian, and quite well as a matter of fact.” Zecora said mildly shocked. “Well come inside you’ll be the first pony to visit me since I moved here.”
“Thank you for inviting me in.” Trixie walked in and sat down on of the cushions around the room. “Well I can understand why I’d be the first pony to visit.”
“Oh? Why is that?” Zecora sounded more than a little insulted.
“A great many ponies are absolutely terrified of the Everfree forest, and wouldn’t step hoof in it for most any reason.” Trixie explained as she admired the décor. The masks and various objects she saw were foreign and strange. “I love your home. It’s so exotic and exciting.”
“Thank you. I had wondered why no visitors were coming.” The zebra sighed. “I was beginning to think I had offended them somehow.”
“I’m fairly certain that any pony who talked to you would find you to be perfect company. “ Trixie looked out the window and realized how late it was. “Zecora it was lovely talking with you, but I must be going. I promise to come visit again as soon as I get back from my trip though.”
“Feel free to visit at any time.” Zecora said with a smile as Trixie walked out the door.
Neither pony noticed a wisp of black something or other as it retreated from the area around Zecora’s hut, and the zebra herself.
--
Trixie made her way back to her wagon and after a quick snack she pulled out the map. “Hmm next stop is the city of Neighson.” The unicorn mare turned on the lights and security for her wagon. She turned set her course and went inside to sleep.
The Most Powerful In Equestria
A dust cloud moved swiftly west ward as the noon day sun hung high in the sky. Obscured inside the cloud was the source. Trixie’s wagon powered along as fast as the wheels could carry it. Moving slightly slower than a train but much faster than any pony could run. Trixie set in front of the wagon -spells placed on it allowing her to avoid getting dirty and see clearly in the dust storm- her only goal to get as far away from Neighson as possible.
Neighson as it had turned out was a small town about half the size of Ponyville. With a population that was about seventy-five percent stallions. The stallions looked at her with what could only be called a hunger. It had felt like she was a blue and yellow rose salad in room full of starving ponies. That alone would have been enough to startle most mares into abandoning the city. Nor were the leers and catcalls she received enough to make her quit the area. No it was the fact that one of stallions had slapped her flank as walked by. After she had put the offending stallion through the nearest wall the crowd of stallions became very aggressive the tone changing from merely suggestive to boastful promises. Deciding not to let this get any further she had left the town.
“Note to self report that city to the proper authority.” Trixie mumbled to herself as she checked the heading on the map she was now headed to the far mountain range that marked the border between Equestria and the now frozen wastes of Equis. The proud nation from which all modern ponies in Equestria could trace their roots to. The wendigos had frozen the land and not even the fires of friendship had been able to thaw the hateful ice. “It does figure he would still be there.”
He in this case was one of the most famous unicorns in existence Evertrot the infinitely prolonged. Nopony knew just how it had happened -save Evertrot himself- but the unicorn had become immortal. Without the restrictions of mortal need he had thrown himself into the study of magic in a way that a Certain Ponyville librarian only wished she could. Starswirl the bearded had called him friend if certain rumors were to be believed he was the creator of the physical Elements of Harmony. He had designed the very first polymorphic spell. If any pony in history had earned the title of greatest unicorn it had was Evertrot. That said the last time anypony had seen Evertrot had been his battle with Discord.
“I do hope he is willing to teach me.” Trixie knew that soon she would have to leave the wagon behind to trek up into the mountains. She looked once more back at the map which as she drew closer to the mountain began to reveal a trail that went up into the mountain.
--
Trixie wound her way up the path it was magically kept clear of snow and ice. It was very smooth which made the journey up the mountain very easy. A small heating spell was all it took to keep herself comfortable. After about an hour she reached a plateau on the peak of the mountain. There was a small cavern on the other side of the plateau. A cavern in to which the map now pointed.
“Okay here we go.” Trixie thought as she made her way into the cave. Only a few steps in she saw him. His body was dull gray. His cutie mark was made of six or so wavy rings interlocked. The moment she laid eyes on him however she could tell that the gray was not natural he was ensorcelled. “E-Evertrot the Infinitely Prolonged?” she called hesitantly.
The unicorn stood there was no noise as he turned to face her. His blue-green eyes did not look at her not into her but through her. His hot breath clouded the cold air as he approached.
Not seeing any other choice Trixie lit her horn and cast a very general enchantment removal spell. A flash of light filled the room and a very different unicorn sat in front of her. He was now a dull white having more to do with the fact that he was not well nourished then his actual coloring.
“Woo!” Evertrot exclaimed as he stretched his muscles and popped his joints. “Did not see that last one coming.” he extended his hoof which Trixie took and gave a shake. “Thanks for pulling me out of that funk.”
Trixie blinked this seemed so strange she couldn’t believe what was going on. “Umm what?”
“’Kay keep up with me here alright.” Evertrot said as he held up his forelegs hooves forward. “About ten thousand years back I went up against Discord. It was an Epic battle fireballs and exploding plants and bottles everywhere. I thought I had him on the ropes he could barely keep his shape-shifting trick working. So I go in to finish it.” Trixie winced it was no secret life before the Princess’ rule had been violent, but most modern ponies didn’t have the stomach for it. “I know but believe me that seemed like the only choice for it. Anyway as move in for coup de mort He just grabs a hold of my head and something … broke, and I wasn’t me anymore.”
“And I broke the spell.” Trixie said. “Evertrot the Infinitely Prolonged I, The Great and Powerful Trixie humbly request that you take me as your apprentice.”
“You sure about that? I mean I’ve never trained anypony.” Evertrot said as glanced over her. “What am I saying? You wouldn’t have come all this way just to back out.”
“So you’ll train me?” Trixie said giving a hopeful smile.
“As my master was once told and as he told me. ‘Once I am finished with you a mile in hell will be a walk on a fresh summer’s day.’”
Trixie gulped “maybe I bit off more than I can chew here.”

of origins and homecomings.
“Turn here.” Evertrot said pointing to a trail off to the left.
“But that’ll take us into Equis.” Trixie protested she was not very fond of cold weather.
“Look you want me to train you all of my supplies are at my home in Equis.” The immortal unicorn explained. “Believe me this’ll be a lot faster than going to the next town over looking for the gear."
“Wonderful.” If sarcasm could be measured in animals that one word was an elephant. “Months and Months in a frozen wasteland with no food.” Trixie said as she headed her wagon down the trail Evertrot had indicated.
“My home has plenty of food and is very warm.” Evertrot said with a roll of his eyes. “I am well aware of your mortality.”
Trixie pondered on whether or not it was wise to irritate a centuries old master of magic before asking. “If you don’t mind how did you end up immortal?”
“After the secret of immortality are we?” Trixie shook her head. “Well even if you were it’s not something you can learn. Ah well I suppose I can tell you we won’t have anything better to do for the next few hours.” Evertrot paused to gather his thoughts. “Well for one thing I wasn’t born a unicorn or even a pony.”
“What? But almost no other creature in the whole world can use magic like unicorns.” Trixie exclaimed.
Evertrot lifted an eyebrow at her outburst. “True as you say. Nothing in this world can use it quite as well. I am from another world where magic works differently.” Evertrot paused and waited for Trixie to say something. However Trixie was far too stunned to reply. “I was trained in the art of magic and was a Great master of the mystic arts, but in my studies I had made a powerful enemy. “ Evertrot grimaced at the memory as the wagon trundled on along the path. “One day when I was ill prepared He came upon me and cursed me and tried to banish me to a world of unending despair. Fortunately I was able to subvert the spell and the curse thus ended up here as a unicorn.”
Trixie began to recover from the shock and put forward one of the questions buzzing in her mind like a cloud of hungry parasprites. “How does that make you immortal?”
“Well, normally ponies and especially unicorns have a well of magical energy inside them. This magic is guided from the core along the body and releases into the air at angles. In unicorns this means the magic flows easiest from their horn. In pegusi it releases from the wings allowing them to fly. Earth ponies power flows from there hoofs a little at a time. With me so far?”
“Yes but that still doesn’t –“
“Hold on I’m getting to that.” Evertrot said cutting off Trixie mid-sentence and earning a glare from the blue magical mare.
“The thing is the way magic works where I came from means that I draw energy from the world around me.” Trixie gave him a puzzled look. “My entire body is over flowing with magic endlessly regenerating and tirelessly protecting me from harm.”
“You never have to eat or sleep because your cells have all the energy they need.” Trixie summarized.
“Precisely.” Evertrot smiled before turning his head to the darkened trail ahead the night having snuck up on both ponies as they talked. . “Ah! There it is my home sweet home.”
Turning to look as well Trixie gasped at the sight before her this was not the small cottage she had been expecting. What she beheld was a towering fortress that had been obscured by the mountain range but was no less small. Six towers of some metal she could not Identify formed the outer wall each of them was topped with a beacon of light each one a different color of the rainbow, and the wall itself was made from a bright pure white marble with bracers of some white substance she was unfamiliar with . The inner wall was formed of ten smaller towers each with a unique design at their pinnacle, but the wall running between them was a uniformly smooth and shiny obsidian black. At the center of the sprawling complex was tremendous castle it seemed to slowly change color as the lights from the main wall shimmered in the night. Across the roof massive spires and towers jutted in to the sky at the very peak of the largest and tallest tower was a bright beacon of pure white light.
As Trixie stared in complete awe Evertrot smiled as fond memories of his time here came back to him. “Welcome to the Eternal Cathedral the lights on the outer wall represent the Elements of Harmony. The ten towers are magical focuses that channel the elements of nature to defend this place and its occupants. The central tower represents the power of hope and reminds us that there is always a light so long as we are willing to look for it. This place was meant to be stronghold against monsters like Discord.”
“You live here?” Trixie looked again at the massive building as they drew close to the gateway.
“Not for a thousand years I haven’t.” Evertrot replied as the doors opened and allowed them through. The drive to the main doors was quiet Evertrot lost in contemplation, Trixie in wonder. Now that they were closer she could see that the stone walls were speckled with gemstones and crystals. She observed that the main building was in fact changing colors an interesting enchantment to say the least.
“It’s a shame Nopony in Equestria has ever seen this.” Trixie said as she brought the wagon to a stop in front of the castle doors. “I’ve never seen anything so beautiful in my life.”
“It’s not like it has to be that way.” Evertrot said as he stepped out of the wagon. “The ponies these days understand harmony and friendship if they came back the land would unfreeze and Equis could be just one more part of the lands we call home.”
A stray thought crossed Trixie’s mind. “You don’t ever miss your old home?”
Evertrot paused as he pushed open the cathedral doors. “No not really I had little to be happy about and no friends. the days of my apprenticeship were long since over so I had no one to talk with. I had made enemies though I didn’t mean to and a great number of people would have wanted me destroyed simply for practicing magic.” He held the door open and beckoned for Trixie to go inside. “Though on occasion I do miss the taste of bacon.”
“What’s bacon?” she asked puzzled at a food whose name she’d never heard before as she strode through the door way followed by Evertrot.
“Starswirl the bearded once asked me the same thing.” Evertrot gave a small chuckle. “He thought it sounded delicious until I told him what it was made of… do you want to know?”
“Umm…”Trixie bit her lip. “What was His reaction?”
“Hmm well it was revulsion and then fear.”
“Is it made from ponies?”
“No.”
“Then what was he afraid of?”
“He seemed to be afraid of the fact that I used to be an omnivore.” Evertrot thought for a minute. “Go ahead and take any room you want. We’re going to start training first thing in the morning.”

and that's how i lost my medical license
The morning was never Trixie’s favorite time of the day. She preferred the late evening to the early morning. Today however she woke to the gentle caress of the morning sun warming her face as she rested against the softest bed she had ever slept in. she dragged herself out of the warm embrace of the silken sheets. She walked down the stairs and into the main kitchen in search of food.
“Morning Trixie. Yggdrisil root?” Evertrot said as he offered a rather heinous looking root to her.
“Ugh what a foul smelling plant. You don’t honestly expect me to eat that do you?” Trixie backpedaled in disgust.
“To be honest I can’t stand to eat it either but if you do it can increase the amount of magic you have to use.” He shrugged before tossing the offensive plant into a small cylinder with metal razors at the bottom. He opened the door to the fridge and pulled out a number of fruits and vegetables and tossed them into the cylinder. As he removed a carton of milk however Trixie caught site of a pony's head setting behind the carton. The door closed and Evertrot continued to pour liquids and powders from the cabinet into the cylinder before placing a cap on it. “So this is my favorite gift from my master I can never lose it and makes eating things like Yggdrisil root tolerable.” He pressed down on a small button and a mechanical whirring filled the air as the contents of the cylinder where whipped into a homogenous slush. “Tastes great healthy for you and mildly improves magical performance.” he said as he opened the lid and poured the contents into two glasses.
“There was a ponies head in your refrigerator.” Trixie said as she took one of the glasses.
“Wha? Really?” Evertrot pulled open the door and there was a solid black earth pony head resting on the shelf.
“Kill me.” Trixie jumped as the head spoke.
“Later.” Evertrot replied as he pulled the head from the fridge n lifted it off the plate it had been resting on. “Trixie meet Logan the Undying.” Trixie watched horrified as first bones then muscle and organs sprouted from the ponies neck stump. Before long she was looking at a rather large black earth pony stallion. Immediately a question sprang to mind.
“Why where you in the fridge?!” Trixie blurted out.
“Well you see me and my little mare got into a fight so she lopped my block off set me on a plate and stuffed me in the fridge to keep me from just growing my bod back.” Logan explained sounding as if this was more normal than the sun being lifted by a royal Alicorn. “Good to see ya again Evertrot. Who’s the little lady finally find a flank you want to tap?"
Both Evertrot and Trixie wore identical expressions of disgust and shock.
“Oh gross he’s like a thousand years old.” Trixie said
“I’m old enough to be her great great grandfather’s great grandfather.” Evertrot said as he smacked Logan over the head. “And unlike you I’m not interested in reproducing with ponies.”
“Well than what is Miss Trixie doing here?” Logan said as he rubbed the spot where he’d been hit.
“As it so happens I am teaching her magic.” Evertrot before picking up his glass and draining it in a single gulp.
“Speaking of magic, when does my training begin?” Trixie interrupted.
--
“Okay first things first we get a good grip on where you stand on magic. To that end we going to be using some of the tools my master left to me.” Evertrot said as he looked through the piles of books and other odds and ends that cluttered his study. “Ah here we are!” he said pulling out about four or so different blank sheets of papers from the stack. “These are powerful magical artifacts that allow me to put numeric values to your physical well being current magic limit and list all known spells.” He said as he handed her the sheet words and numbers appeared on them. The list included her height, weight, date of birth, and star-sign. It also included a brief history of her life under the heading back-story.
“That must be one large enchantment.” She said as she switched to the next page. “What is this non-sense?” the page was labeled with what were obviously abbreviations but they stood for was mystery to her.
“Okay listen carefully. Lv stands for level according to the chart you are a level eighteen mage. Hp stands for health points a measure of how much you can be hurt without dying. If the number on the left reaches zero you pass out. If you’re by yourself that could be the end of you. You are currently at six hundred of six hundred. Mp is short for magical power it measures how much energy you use in your spells and how much energy you have available to use. If it reaches zero you won’t be able to cast spells. You current energy is maximum energy is ten thousand just enough to really hurt a dragon or an Ursa Minor. DUR measures how hard it is too hurt you. You have a durability of forty pretty good for a unicorn. STR measures your physical strength again forty is pretty good for a unicorn. SPD is a measure of how fast you are thirty is not bad but you can do better. INT is a measure of your education it helps with the accuracy and power of your spells. Nineteen thousand is impressive considering how young you are. RFX is a how well you move the higher the score the harder is to hit you. We’re going to have to work on this one because twenty is not acceptable.” Having finished in a single breath Evertrot made a giant gasp and let out a sigh.
“Got it.” Trixie said stunned by deluge of information. She flipped to the next page this one was clearly labeled as equipment at the top. “Most of the slots are marked empty. And why is there a small stat box on this page?”
“You’re not wearing anything. The reason for the stat box is because some enchanted items can alter your base stats.”
Trixie flipped to next page which was just a list of the spells and abilities she posses.
“Ah well I see that school you went to has a very good grasp on the arts of magic.” Evertrot said as he read over her shoulder. “Before we begin your training in earnest why do you want to learn from me? I mean surely a mare as talented as you can make a decent living.”
Trixie paused to consider how she should answer that. “Some time ago I was putting on a show doing my magic act. I was telling tall tales and couple of young colts believed me a little too well. They brought an Ursa Minor into town.” Evertrot flinched he had seen first hoof the kind of carnage an Ursa could cause in a pony town. “They thought I could stop it I tried my best but all I managed to do was annoy it. Then this other mare shows up and dispatches it, I’d never felt so foalish in all my life. My wagon and everything in it was destroyed. Then I went home my mother doesn’t approve of the way I live she thinks I’ve wasted my talent doing what I love. I used to be so sure she was wrong but right now I’m not so sure she is. That’s why I want to train with you to become somepony who can actually do everything they claim they can.”
“An Admirable goal. Come now we begin with the powers of nature.” Evertrot said as he turned to leave the study.
As they headed towards the Cathedral grounds a thought that had been hiding in the back of Trixie’s head like a certain pink-maned Pegasus at a rave party leapt to the fore front. “You don’t live here alone do you?”
“Heavens no child.” Evertrot called over his shoulder. “There are a few of us immortal ponies and none of us relish the idea of eternity alone.”
The Most Powerful In Equestria
“Alright now we get started.” Evertrot said as he turned to face Trixie. “As I told you I’ve never trained anypony before so I’m just going to teach you like my master taught me.”
“Can we get on with it then?” Trixie asked her breakfast was not agreeing with her and it was making her irritable.
“Well then let’s get started.” The white unicorn said with a raised eyebrow. “The basis of my magic is harmonizing with the world around me.” With that he lit his horn and the air around him began to spin. The wind howled as it picked up speed and darkened as it picked up loose soil from the ground. Within seconds a massive tornado was hovering over head. “Of course when you magic this way you don’t have to use as much of your own energy.” He said after he dissipated the whirlwind.
“That’s all there is to it you just go and make a tornado?” Trixie asked incredulously. “I could have learned that same spell from anypony who knew it.”
“Well then why don’t you give it a try?” He said with a poorly disguised smirk.
Trixie gave a small humph as she lit her horn. The spell was easy enough just spin the air in one direction. A few seconds later though the only thing she’d managed to do was exhaust herself. Trixie eyed Evertrot suspiciously. “How did you grab the air to move it?”
“The only way you can grab the air is if you meet it as a person rather than a thing.” Evertrot grinned so wide only a certain pink pony could match it.
“That’s absolute nonsense speak sane.” Trixie replied
“This is magic study it all you like write volumes and volumes of books if you ever understand all of it… then it’s no longer magic. Understand I’m not teaching you normal unicorn magic this is the magic that created the Elements of Harmony.” He threw his hoof to the sky. “This is the magic of thoughts and feeling of primal forces brought under the control of mortals.” Evertrot brought his hoof down and the earth shook. “To teach you the art of communing and bargaining with the spirits of nature.” He declared as a tremendous pyre burst into existence behind him.
“How do I do that?” a dead pan expression plastered across her features.
“Oh um…” the flame flickered out as Evertrot placed a hoof under his chin. For a solid moment there was only the sound of wendigos howling as they swept through frozen plains.
“You have to be kidding me . You have no idea how to teach the techniques at all ?” Trixie said flabbergasted at the bizarre situation.
“Well my master knew portal magic and I just don’t have it.” The snowy elder said. “Oh wait the towers. Yes those will work just fine.”
“What about the towers they're hunks of rock and steel!” The blue mare shouted.
“The Ten towers are each channels they open into the spirit plane were you can communicate with the forces of nature.” Evertrot turned and headed to the nearest tower. “There is some danger doing things this way but no more than you took on when you sought me out.” With that he lit his horn and opened a doorway into the tower. “To paraphrase my master. One does simply walk into Mordor.”
“I’m afraid I don’t follow.”
Evertrot gave a sigh. “Nopony ever gets that joke.” He pointed a hoof towards the door. “Enter into the domain of fire.”
“Couldn’t we start with something simpler?” Trixie said as she headed towards the door.
“Nope, everybody learns fire first.” Trixie gave a groan as she passed through the gateway. And found herself on a spiral stairway. Groaning she trotted up the stairs, but as she grew higher up the stairs the hotter air became.
“Good grief, it’s hot like summer in here.” Trixie complained aloud there was no one to hear her but just voicing her displeasure made her feel better. After about ten minutes she paused and cast a cooling spell. In another ten minutes she had to cast the same spell again. “If it gets any hotter I’ll expect to see a volcano.” Trixie said with a little chuckle. Unfortunately her laughter was cut short when she stairs came to an end on a vast volcanic plain. “Trixie was just joking…”
The land was a cracked and parched covered in volcanic ash. The sky was a harsh red and fire dropped from sky as it was hurled there by distant volcanoes. Strangely though she was not the only living thing. Tiny black scaled lizards darted to and fro across the scorched earth, and flaming serpents danced in spirals across the sky. The most bizarre thing was the music which the blue mare noted was getting closer and she heard the singer and his lyrics.
“Give your soul to me/for eternity! Take your place inside the fire with me! HAhahhaahah!” Trixie stared after all it’s not every day you come across a pony who is completely on fire. His body was an azure blue his eyes glowed white his mane and tail were bright crimson flames. “Oh! Hello there.” The flaming stallion said with a smile that set every hair on Trixie’s body on end. “I must say I’ve never had a pony visit me in my home before.”
Swallowing her fear Trixie sprang -well more like hoped- into action. “My name is Trixie. I am the student of Evertrot the infinitely prolonged.”
“Evertrot? Hmm oh old Everson. Still around is he?” the stallion shook his head. “I am Cinder spirit of the flames and the truth of fire.”
“My teacher sent me here to learn to harmonize with fire Lord Cinder.” Trixie bowed because after all there’s no point in intentionally trying to irritate an eons old fire spirit.
“My so formal. You want to understand fire? It’s very simple.” he tossed his head. “Fire is emotion. Anger, Love, desire these things give energy to fire. The fire creates change for good or ill.”
“That’s it? That doesn’t help me at all.” Trixie muttered to herself.
“To draw upon the powers of fire that dwell in your soul young mare. You must reach inside you and draw out your inner warmth and the fires within.” Cinder said as he sat down and idly breathed fire on the lizards running around.
“Just how do I that? That all sounds very nice but it doesn’t actually teach me anything.”
"What do I have to explain it to you step by step?” Cinder shouted. “Fine your memories of your emotions allow you to draw on you fire. Memories of rage create flames of destruction and love and desire create flames of rebirth.” The burning stallion huffed. “Now you have the basics so leave.” He pointed to the stairwell.
“Thank you for your time.” Trixie said before turning and quickly trotting down the staircase.
--
“Why is it night?” Trixie asked as she emerged from the tower into a crisp clear night.
“Spirit time. if they want they can hurl you to the future.” Evertrot said from his spot next to the door.
“Really?”
“No it just takes a long time getting there and back.” Evertrot started towards the cathedral doors. “Come on we’ll practice fire spells tomorrow.” He said with a nod towards to the cathedral.

burning, burning I've got the fever.
A tremendous crash roused Trixie from her sleep early in the twilight before the sun rose to its place in the clouds. Grumbling something in that only her unconscious mind would ever understand she rolled over to go back to sleep. All hope of sleeping until decent hours were dashed when a second crash tossed the blue mare from the bed.
“What are they playing with dynamite down there?” Trixie said as she pulled herself from the floor and made herself presentable. “Wouldn’t surprise me strange plants and decapitated immortal ponies in the fridge.” She shook her mane to get it to sit properly. “If the Great and Powerful Trixie stay’s here to long she might go mad.”
Having finished her daily grooming routine she made her way to the source of the disturbance. Not surprisingly it was the coming from the kitchen, and just outside the door was Logan. Trixie was about to open the door and head in when a black hoof shot in front of her face.
“If you value your life and limbs you will not go in there.” Logan said as he retracted his hoof.
“Why? What’s in there?” Trixie said as she examined the door expecting a manticore or the like to burst through it.
“Well Evertrot went and did the stupidest thing.” the black stallion replied in a calm tone.
“What?” Trixie experienced a mild panic attack. After all if she couldn’t learn from Evertrot she could never show everypony how magnificent she is.
“He drank all the coffee.” Trixie was stupefied her face at that moment was the perfect image befuddlement.
“That’s all? He drank the coffee so what?”
Logan gave her a smirking look typically reserved for foals who said things like ‘it’s just a wolf.’ “The missus becomes quite testy when denied her caffeine.” Before Trixie could question the Earth pony about that and with timing that could only be called cosmic the door to the kitchen exploded into fragments. Followed briefly by a white unicorn going flying through the air were there was once a door. He was immediately followed by a blur of rainbow light. Before Evertrot could hit the ground he was hoisted in to the air by the rainbow colored blur and hurled against the wall.
“Fifty years. Fifty years I’ve told you if you empty the pot you have to fill it up.” The rainbow haired mare screamed. “Maybe now it’ll go through that magical barrier and your thick skull.” Her rage apparently subsiding she turned around. “Hello there dear sorry you had to see that. My names Chromia.” The Pegasus said as she proffered her hoof.
“Trixie Wonder.” Trixie examined as she shook hoofs with the Pegasus. Her coat was a soft white and her eyes were crimson red. She had an unnervingly wide smile and her mane and tail seemed to be held aloft by a non-existent breeze. Coupled with the violent scene from only a moment ago Trixie found herself backing away rather quickly.
“Wonder? As in Star Wonder The Self Absorbed?” Chromia asked her smile replaced by an intense stare.
“His title was The Beautiful, and I’m fine thanks for asking.” Evertrot said as he got back on his hooves.
“Well yes he is my…” Trixie’s sentence trailed off as she considered how many greats went into that. “…ancestor but he lost the title well before his death.”
“Well with that glorious start to the morning how about we all get breakfast.” Logan said as he gestured into the kitchen were a door steadfastly refused to be. Upon the table -which was miraculously untouched- stood four salad bowls filled to the brim with lettuce tomato and some fruit Trixie could not identify.
--
“Alright Trixie. You have an advantage over me being as you can just copy my spells so here are some of the basics of fire magic.” Evertrot said as they reached the grounds the weather today was much colder and so the dew had not yet left the grass.
“Umm I didn’t quite understand what the spirit said.”Trixie said as she became suddenly interested in a blade of grass that was about twenty percent greener.
“Well which part?” Evertrot said hopefully.
“All of it.” Trixie smiled sheepishly.
“Oh mighty nature give me strength.” The immortal unicorn called to the sky. “The power of fire comes in two varieties. Flames of affirmation or rebirth, and flames of destruction. The flames are created by your emotions and grow stronger with the emotions. Flames of affirmation draw their power from love and desire. Flames of destruction from anger.”
“So what I can only use it when I’m angry or out with my coltfriend? What good does that do me?”
“Use a memory. The memory of an emotion is just as powerful as a new one.” The white stallion paused. “Allow me to demonstrate the flames of affirmation.” His horn lit and within an instant a pyre of pinkish flames stood in front of him. “Now you try. Just focus on a memory of time when you could feel love for another pony and cast the spell.”
Trixie closed her eyes and she thought and finally a memory came to her. It was from when she was very young. She’d had a nightmare and her mother and father had come into the room and held her until she’d fallen asleep again. Trixie opened her eye’s she lit her horn and was surprised by the towering pillar that she called forth. The flame warmed her face and body in the most pleasant way.
“Very good Trixie this pyre will exist until you dispel it. This fire consumes nothing you can even use it as clothing if you want.” And at these words Evertrot stepped into the center of the inferno the flames flickered for a second as lit his horn and wrapped the flames about his whole body until every inch of his body was wreathed in burning armor. “I’m sure you can think of few uses for this spell.” He said as he dispelled the flames.
“Oh definitely.” While Evertrot hadn’t been looking she’d styled the flames into a bright dragon that now danced (rather poorly) to a tune that existed only in Trixie’s head.
“Alright I shouldn’t have to tell you the flames of destruction are dangerous but I’m doing it anyway.” The immortal turned his head towards the wall and launched a ball of flame into it. “This is combat magic it exists only to injure maim and well destroy.”
“Oh my turn.” Trixie found a memory of anger just fine. It too was from her foal hood. A group of particularly mean colts had laughed at her when she had said that her mother was the best magician ever. The spell that exploded from her body struck the wall with such force that the whole structure shook.
Evertrot seemed to be taken back by that. “That was a painful memory. The other spells of either type are a variation on these same techniques.” Evertrot turned his head skyward to determine the time of day which he decided was probably ten or so. “So from now until evening I’m going to show you every fire spell I know.”
“Well get on with it this is what I came for.” Trixie scoffed as she waved a hoof in front of her face.
“Okay first put out the dragon.” The immortal unicorn said with a small chuckle as Trixie turned to find the dragon of flames still dancing where she had left it.

A/N: so I have no idea if anyone is really enjoying this story or what I’m doing wrong so please comment below.
It’s important to note that a unicorn of any talent will generally never exhaust their full magic supply. However when a unicorn does exhaust their magic they experience a brief but intense pain which is replaced by a glorious lack of consciousness. The lack of magic in their body causes hallucinations and a giddy sensation known as a spell slingers high. These symptoms can last up to an entire day as the unicorn’s body recharges itself.
Trixie woke at around eight in the morning and stared at the ceiling the colors of it dancing in a rousing rendition of the pony pokey. Trixie made her way down stairs giggling to herself as each step launched a rainbow into the air.
“Are you feeling okay Trixie?” a voice from her left said. Turning her head she beheld a dragon about twice the size of the average pony with stunning yellow and blue scales.
“Huffy the magic dragon I haven’t seen you since third grade! How have you been?” Trixie exclaimed giving the dragon hug around his neck.
“So I’m gonna take that as a no.” Logan said as he pulled free of Trixie’s embrace. The earth stallion looked over the blue coated mare her hair was frazzled her eyes were glazed over and she had goofiest grin on her face. “Did you get in to my R&D plants?”
“Oh hush Huffy I didn’t take your things and I’m fine.” Trixie giggled as she waved a hoof. “Come on we’ll go have breakfast.” Trixie turned trotted through the kitchen door ignoring the rude comment the door had about her flank.
Inside the kitchen Trixie saw a rainbow floating around the room cooking waffles. “Hello there Trixie have a seat breakfast will be ready in ten minutes.” The rainbow said as it flipped over a set of waffle irons. “Are you feeling okay? You look a little sick.”
“No I’m just fine Miss. Rainbow.” Trixie replied “I just forgot to brush my mane.”
Chromia gave Trixie a half of a glare she hated being called Miss. Hate it though she did concern was a much stronger emotion for her. However the smell of burning waffles provided an excellent distraction.
She quickly zipped over to the irons flipping them over and stacking them on some plates.

After eating breakfast Trixie’s mind was in working order. With visions of dancing breakfast foods no longer occupying her mind she set about finding Evertrot. “Excuse me Chromia do you know where Evertrot is?”
“In his room probably.” Chromia said as she shuffled the dishes in to the sink.
“Where’s that at?” Trixie asked as she headed towards the door.
“Second floor main tower wrap around third room from the left or right.” Chromia said as she started washing the dishes.
“Thank you. Oh and that’s a lovely earring where’d you get it?”
Chromia stopped and unhooked the gold hoop from her ear. She held it staring into the strangely prismatic stone set into it as if she had never seen it before. “I made it myself it’s kind of one of kind but I could make you one like it if you want.” she said as she put the earring back in place. “To tell you the truth I forgot I was still wearing that old stone.”
“It’s very pretty what kind is it?” Trixie asked she had a small eye for jewelry but she’d never seen a piece like this.
“Philosophers stone very rare. You run along and I’ll get back to you with it later.”

Evertrot’s room was a massive thing. The bed alone took up enough room to store the entirety of Trixie’s wagon and two more like it. The walls had an ornate trim with images of rabbits dancing amidst tornadoes. A wide open window allowed the sun to filter through warming the whole room with its rays. Upon the bed rested Evertrot himself quietly reading from a massive tome with a pair of glasses perched on his brow.
“Call me old fashioned but shouldn’t you knock before entering?” Evertrot queried without so much as looking up from his book. “Or has barging into someone’s private room unannounced become commonplace?”
“I’m just in hurry to get started with today’s training.”Trixie replied with a huff.
“No training today.” Evertrot said still not looking up
“WHAT?!?” Trixie shouted “Why?”
“You’re still a wreck from yesterday and I have some reading to catch up on.” His nose still planted in his book.
“You can’t be serious I’m just fine.”
“Your mane and tail are a mess you haven’t bathed and last but not least you passed out yesterday.” He paused flipping to the next page. “Your studies on the magic of harmonics will wait until tomorrow when you’re feeling better. “
Trixie wanted to argue with that but she realized it wouldn’t help. “What are you reading?”
“The great big book of magic unabridged.” Evertrot finally looked up. “I’m more than slightly disturbed to learn of no less than fifteen spells for turning animals into attractive young women.”
Trixie turned and walked back to her room to go get cleaned up. Just as she reached the door a thought occurred to her. “How many spells for turning animals into attractive young men?”
“Just two.”

The sun hung overhead as Trixie followed Evertrot towards one of the towers.
“Why did we wait unit l noon to start this?” Trixie asked as she watched Evertrot create the door into the tower.
“Well I slept in.” Evertrot said as he finished the doorway. “This is the light. In order to harmonize with it you’re going to have to pierce through the illusions it surrounds itself with.” Evertrot held up a necklace with a medallion upon it. “If you fear for your life simply touch the medallion. The light is a liar take nothing from him except knowledge.”
“How can the light be bad?” Trixie said as she took the necklace and put it around her neck. “Wait the light is a male spirit?”
“Just because the light is good in this world does not make it so in other worlds and yes the light is male.” Evertrot said as Trixie began to ascend the stairs.

Trixie considered that by the end of this training she was going to have lost a lot of weight. The blue mare rounded the final flight and emerged onto a plain of shimmering crystal. In the distance she could towers that shone in every color of the rainbow and then some. Creatures of pure light arced through the sky.
“It’s so beautiful!” Trixie whispered as she gazed on everything seemed so perfect.
“Isn’t it just though?” Trixie jumped away from the sound of the voice. “Oh it seems I’ve startled you…” standing behind her was a stunningly handsome unicorn. His body was pure almost blinding white and his mane and tail were a vibrant rainbow corona. Trixie couldn’t help but notice in addition to have powerful but slim build his horn was easily taller and sharper than Celestia’s. “I am Prisma of the light no need to be alarmed.” He had a deep voice calm and cultured.
“Why did you sneak up on me if you didn’t want to alarm me?”
“You assume I wasn’t behind you to begin with.” Prisma said with a smile. Trixie shuddered the light spirit had that kind of smile that is completely devoid of warmth. It was also at that point when she realized that while this area was a shining beacon it was also devoid of warmth.
“A bit cold here isn’t it?” Trixie said as she cast a cloak of magic flames around herself.
“Is it? I didn’t notice it being any colder than usual.”
“I am here to learn how to cast light magic.” Trixie declared. “I notice that you’re blocking the exit any reason for that?”
“None at all but if you want to learn the power of light then we might as well go further in instead of backwards.” Prisma said as he gestured towards one of the distant spires.
“I was told you were a liar.” Trixie said as she gazed into Prisma’s eyes. “I think you want to keep me here.”
Prisma gasped and put his left hoof to his chest. “I am shocked that I would be accused of such a travesty as lying.” He sat back on his haunches and put his right hoof to his forehead.
Trixie rolled her eyes that performance was pure melodrama. “Now I know your lying.”
Prisma leveled a glare at her and Trixie realized his pupils were draconic barely more than black lines on his otherwise blank white eyes. “Oh I’m much more than a liar.” Prisma lay down with his fore hooves crossed in front of him. “You want the power of light you must find the truth of light.” His voice was much colder and harsher.
“It’s obvious to me your hiding your real face under a spell.” Trixie paused to gauge the light spirit’s reaction. Going by the fact his glare became more intense she decided she’d hit right on the mark. “The real question is why you would hide your face?” the mage waited a moment before she realized Prisma wasn’t going to answer. “What do you gain from hiding your real face behind that beautiful façade?”
“Trust.” Prisma said scarcely above a whisper. “Most everybody automatically trusts a pretty face.”
“So you’re not just a liar but vain.” The magic mare considered aloud. “Hmm let’s play a bit of a game. For every truth about you I uncover you reveal more of what you really look like the game ends when you’re fully revealed.”
“You failed to put forth either a prize or a way for yourself to lose. Thus I propose both if I win you will surrender that medallion to me. If you win you can leave and will have the power of light. As you try to discern my nature I will try to discern yours. In contrast to your goal I shall conceal parts of you from sight. I win when you are no longer visible. You may go first.”
“Then let’s play.” Trixie said with a nod. “You are predatory as revealed when you chose the ambush instead of meeting me head on.”
“You have a discerning eye.” Prisma smiled and the illusion of flat teeth designed for grinding vanished and sharp teeth designed for slicing neatly through flesh and bone were revealed. “You are a proud pony your posture speaks volumes.”
Trixie’s tail vanished from sight though she could still feel it. It was disconcerting not to see it. “You are not a pony you merely have a similar form.”
“Humph a lucky guess.” Prisma’s tail twisted and became thick three foot long bundle of muscle and bone with tuft of hair at the end. “You have less talent than you believe.”
“You missed your mark.” Trixie replied as no part of her body vanished. “You’re some sort of draconian creature.”
“How?! How did you know that?” Prisma roared as his coat was replaced a by stark white scales that seemed to glow with their own light. “you are cheating somehow you’re not that smart!”
“Wrong on both counts and that’s two turns.” Trixie said as she gazed at the creature before her. “You don’t have hooves on your forelegs and that horn isn’t what it looks like.”
Prisma leapt to his feet as the hooves on his forelegs split apart into four draconic claws. “You cannot be guessing you know somehow.” His horn spread and thinned and became a giant razor shaped like a bolt of lightning jabbing into the air.
Trixie gasped as her left hoof vanished. “Your mane is not as it appears.” She declared
“This is all wrong I can’t lose.” The light spirit roared as the changes to Trixie vanished. His mane went from a streak down his back to more like a lion’s mane though it also traced clear to his tail along his spine. “How did you win?”
“Your spell of illusion falls apart on the ground.” Trixie said as she pointed a hoof at the light spirits ‘shadow’. Prisma’s jaw dropped as he examined the dancing lights on the floor. “Games over and I win now let me pass.”
“So the whole time my own spell helped you defeat me. How did you discover the claws?” Prisma said as he tossed continued to glare from his position in front of the stairway.
“You gouged marks into the floor.” Trixie backed away and pressed her hoof to the medallion. “You said you’d let me go.”
“As you said I am a liar.” Prisma had barely finished his sentence before he lunged at her claws outstretched. And promptly passed through her body as if she no more than illusion.
“Well I think we’ve had a lovely chat but it’s time for me to be going now ta-ta.” Trixie said as she bolted down the stairs as fast as her hooves could carry her.

“Why didn’t you tell me he was evil?” Trixie said through gritted teeth as she stepped out of the tower of light and in to the crisp night air.
“Learn from experience. You wouldn’t have believed me if I told you he was evil.” Evertrot said as he headed towards the main doors. “He’s not completely evil he’s just not as good as everyone expects him to be.”
Trixie nodded the light spirit was not what she had expected at all. “Let’s get an early start tomorrow.”
