Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there were two regal sisters who ruled together, and created harmony for all the land. To do this, the eldest used her unicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn; the younger brought out the moon to begin the night. Thus, the two sisters maintained balance for their kingdom and their subjects, all the different types of ponies. But as time went on, the younger sister became resentful. The ponies relished and played in the day her elder sister brought forth, but shunned and slept through her beautiful night. One fateful day, the younger unicorn refused to lower the moon to make way for the dawn. The elder sister tried to reason with her, but the bitterness in the young one's heart had transformed her into a wicked mare of darkness: Nightmare Moon!She vowed that she would shroud the land in eternal night. Reluctantly, the elder sister harnessed the most powerful magic known to ponydom: the Elements of Harmony. Using the magic of the Elements of Harmony, she defeated her younger sister, and banished her permanently in the moon. The elder sister took on responsibility for both sun and moon and harmony has been maintained in Equestria for generations since.
Twilight remembered vividly the day she had been sent to PonyVille, the day- or rather night her and her friends defeated the dreaded [lightning crack for dramatic effect.] Night Mare Moon. The day she had met her life-long friends, Apple Jack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and no-pony can forget Pinkie Pie. How resentful she had been at the thought of being assigned by her teacher, Princess Celestia: the bringer of sun- and at that time, moon everyday, to make friends.
A smile spread across the unicorns face. I thought friendship was a useless thing, only up until recently have I discovered the magic of having them-friends.
There was only one question- just one, while re-reading the book upon The Elements of Harmony that bubbled in her brain,
It says here that Princess Celetstia used The Elements of Harmony upon Night Mare Moon- thus banishing her to the moon, yet, who were the previous bearers of The Elements of Harmony? Were there ever any? Was Celestia directly tied to them or were they all- like today, wielded by separate ponies? All I want to know, is, were there any previous bears of The Elements?I haven't read anything about them, nor is there much to read on the subject.
Twilight looked thoughtfully at her #1 assistant, Should I ask, or would it be a waste of one of the Rulers of Equestria's time? She pondered about this- while laying on the floor, a book open in front of her.
"Spike." she managed to choke out, her curiosity was far to big to stop now. "Can you write a letter to the Princess?"
"Sure Twi!" the minuscule dragon replied, quail and paper in his hand faster then you can say, purple pony pecked a purple plizzard!
"*Amheem* Dear Princess Celestia, I am writing to regarding the fact that; were there ever any previous bearers to The Elements of Harmony, I am puzzled by the fact and await your reply. Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle."
With a single breathe of green flames, the letter was on its way to Canterlot.
Spike looked at his adopted mother, "Do you- do you think The Elements of Harmony were once wielded by different ponies?" the baby dragon asked.
"Perhaps, but I cant be-"
The small dragon began to look sickly, "Spike are you o-"
BELCH!
A scroll appeared, surrounded briefly by Spikes green flames, "That was fast." the unicorn inclined.
Twilight opened the carefully rolled scroll, My Dearest Twilight, I am writing to inform you on the past of The Elements of Harmony; which, were in fact, once wielded by another generation of ponies..........
Though you may not be of this earth any more
Not able to stand, walk, or fell
You will never be forgotten
Your time on this earth never over-looked
For you will always be in my memory
Until we see each other again.........

"T-That's it?" she said softly, questioning the Princesses new habit of only telling her small bits of information.

Twilight processed a thought in her mind, In the Royal Castle, they have decorated windows, I have had the chance to see a window depicting me and my friends, but, in all my years of going in and out of the castle- being Princess Celestia's personal student and all, I have never seen a window depicting anything other then the one I am in- as well as Princess Celestia banishing Night Mare Moon to the moon, no other window depicting The Elements of Harmony.
Twilight thought about going to the Royal Castle, with her thirst for knowledge, she couldn't just say 'no' to this offer.
