Well I don't know why or how this happened, but a pink mare came into my life at a very depressing time. I have no idea how she came into my apartment and scared me while I was lying on my old couch. All I know is that she was here to try and make me smile.
My life was in ruins at the moment. My wife just left me and took a lot of my money with her. She broke my heart, putting me in a state of depression for god knows how long. My friends all broke contact with me years ago, leaving me with no one.
I wasn't a pretty sight to behold. A 25 year old man with short black hair, no meat on his bones and a dark, dusty apartment. I haven't shaved in a while, so I had some hairs growing on my chin and face. I lost interest in taking care of my self. I just gave up on everything.
Life wasn't fair, and I understood this. But it's still hard nonetheless. I came home from another failed job interview. I flopped down on my couch, dirt flying up everywhere. I just lied there with my eyes shut, hoping all my problems would just disappear.
That's when she appeared. I fluttered my eyes open, hoping my prayer had been answered. What I saw surprised me. A pink mare was sitting on my dirty floor with a smile on her face. At first, I didn't care. I just thought my mind was trying to trick me, so I slumped back on the couch.
But then she started talking. I listened to what she had to say, or try at least. She was speaking very fast and I could barely make out any words. When she finished her never ending sentence, she smiled and made a sort of squeaking noise. Confused, I just stared at her from my lying position on the couch. My legs dangled over the edge but I didn't care.
Noticing that I didn't react to her statement, she held out a hoof. She introduced herself as Pinkie Pie, or Pinkie. She told me that she would make me see that life wasn't so bad, and to get me to smile. I just stared at her, unable to think up a response. She tilted her head to the right, matching my heads position, with a look of bewilderment.
I lifted my arms up and pushed myself from the dusty piece of furniture. She bounced lightly with a smile as I stood to my full height. I looked down to her with an emotionless face. Our eyes locked for a brief moment, before I looked away and walked to my bed. I threw my bag to the corner and slumped down on the edge of my bed.
Pinkie followed me and watched as I sat on the bed. She sat down on the floor in front of me and put a hoof to her chin in thought. Her eyes lit up and she reached behind her, pulling out a googly eyed potato. She looked to the potato in her hoof and pretended to have a conversation with it. Making silly noises, scrunching up her face and crossing her eyes.
She looked over to me and saw that it had no effect. She threw the potato behind her and stood up. She walked over to the side of my bed and jumped on top of it. At first, I thought she was an illusion brought on by my mind. But when the bed started rocking, I knew she was real.
I looked behind myself to see her jumping up and down on my bed. Much like an innocent child would. All the while she did this with a massive smile on her face. I sighed and stood up off the bed. I walked into the bathroom and looked into the reflection. I saw myself staring back with sad eyes and a slight frown upon my face. I groaned and turned the sink on, splashing water on my face. I turned the water off and looked up.
In the reflection behind me was Pinkie making weird and silly faces. I chose to ignore her. If she was here to make me smile, she would be here for a long time trying. I turned and slid past her as she was making faces. I started striping my clothes off, while Pinkie continued talking. All I heard was a slight, muffled sound as her mouth moved up and down. I entered the shower and turned the water on. At first it was freezing, but I'm used to the cold. It was winter right now, and I don't have heating.
I reached for my wash cloth blindly, letting my sense of touch tell me where it is. As the cold water was hitting my back, I felt something smooth and tough feeling land in my hand. I turned my head and lifted my hand to my face. Pinkie had put a rubber ducky in my hand. Where she got it from, I had no idea. She was looking at me expectantly, seeing if her attempt at humour had worked.
Sadly, it didn't. I dropped the ducky unceremoniously and reached for the wash cloth and grabbed it with some soap. Pinkie bit the soap out of my hand before I could bring it to my body. She was chewing it and holding up a hoof, as if to say 'wait a moment'.
Her face contorted to one of focus, and she burped. Out came millions of bubbles. She playfully started swiping at them, like a cat with a pet toy. She looked to me once again, seeing my reaction. Once again I had none. I reached for a new bar of soap and started washing my body. I threw a glance to Pinkie every once in a while, to see what she had planned for me.
If she wanted to make me smile, she should have came when I could feel emotion. Back when I actually had a beating heart. Right now, I was hollow. I felt empty and void of all feeling. I dropped the wash cloth and turned the shower off, not bothering to wash my short hair.
For a while I just stood there, staring at the wall. Thinking about it all now, I see life has many problems. With life I'm miserable, lonely, hungry and cold. But there was an escape.
I looked over to the sink. Resting on the edge was a sharp razor blade. I reached out and grabbed it, staring at it in my hand. I could faintly hear Pinkie talking but it was still muffled to me. I turned away from the wall and slid down into a sitting position in my shower, staring at my razor.
I see Pinkie also looking, curiously. I hold my other arm out, wrist facing up. I saw her gasp and start talking very quickly to me. I guess she was trying to talk me out of it. With the other arm, I bring the razor towards my wrist. Pinkie walked closer to me, holding me by the shoulders and shaking me. It was no use. I had made up my mind. I cringe as I quickly slash at my flesh.
One, two, three, four
Four cuts. Blood was spilling out of my damaged skin, covering my arm and slowly going down the drain. With my cut arm, I grab the razor. Pinkie was actually crying now, begging me to stop. She seemed to actually care if I lived or not. I lower the razor on my uncut wrist and cringe.
One, two, three, four
Four cuts. More blood flowed freely from my arm. I dropped the razor and slumped my arms down, preparing myself for deaths embrace.
I look over to see Pinkie breaking down and crying. She was holding my shoulder while trying to stabilize herself. She was talking, but once again I could not hear her.
I wish I could hear her now. I wish I could take it all back.
In that moment where I saw her crying her heart out for me, I realized something. She was trying to help me. She wanted me to see that life can't be all bad, and that once in a while there are some great moments that you want to cherish forever.
With my last ounce of strength, I lift my arm and rest my hand on the mares shoulder. She looks up at me, tears streaming down her face. With my last breath, I gave her a massive smile. Tears still streaming, she to smiles. The least I could do for this mare who had tried so hard to make me happy, was smile. My arm slumped from her shoulder as darkness took my vision.
