Doctor Whooves and the Unexpected Visitor
Chapter 5
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Doctor?" she said looking at him as they both walked towards the TARDIS. They were in a long and dark hallway that was illuminated via a transparent roof and a large amount of stars nearby, one was especially close but it could only been seen thru the front of the ship which they had just left since there seamed to be nobody at the controls. Outside she could see a few stars and a couple planets that orbited the star, if she squinted she could just make out a collection of stars that looked to be a galaxy of some type.
"Yes Ditzy?" he said looking at her as he continued walking.
"What exactly happened to your people?" he stumbled a bit before regaining his posture.
"Why are you asking me this now? Besides i already told you, they all vanished in the great time war" He said not turning to look at her.
"Doctor...I'm not a little filly anymore, i can handle the truth." She said bumping into him to make sure he heard her.
"They grew rouge with power and i had to...lock them all into a time lock." He said with a sigh.
"Oh..whats a time lock?" she said looking at him, she now understood why he always looked sad, even when he smiled the sadness still lingered in his eyes.
"A time lock is a way of keeping a certain event contained, with them in the time lock they can never escape and bring harm to anyone else." They both continued walking until they were standing in front of the blue box, the Doctor clapped his hooves together and walked in while Ditzy stayed outside for a bit staring up at the stars that shown down thru the transparent roof. She let out a sigh before standing up and walking into the TARDIS.
"Doctor?" She said again slowly walking up the stairs that led to the console, she was looking at the console itself instead of him.
"Yes Ditzy?" he had sat down on one of the benches around the console and was looking at her, she noticed that his voice had a hint of annoyance.
"Well...what exactly did you mean when you told me that the TARDIS was alive? How can a machine be alive?" She said sitting down in front of the console and looking at the large cyan cylinder that stretched from the top of the room to the bottom.
"It's kind of hard to explain....basically the TARDIS is able to think for itself. The Time Lords did this so the pilot would be able to treat the ship as if it were just another crew member, which made it easier to command it to travel to a certain spot or time." He said looking back at the console and smiling.
"How did you get it?" she walked over to the bench and sat down beside the Doctor who was still looking at the control panel.
"Well I stole her..." He said looking down at the ground "When i was younger i stole this ship and locked all the Time Lords inside the time lock with it because i saw how evil they were becoming and i believed i was the only one that could stop them before anything horrible happened, we have been traveling the universe ever since. She has been with me for almost a thousand years now but still has a few surprises for me every now and then." He sighed before looking at the grey Pegasus sitting next to him, her eyes had inverted and she was looking at the console with wonder.
"How many people are suppose to fly this Doctor? I mean it looks like it would be to big for just one person." She said turning her attention back to the Doctor, he smiled a bit before speaking again.
"Well it was originally piloted by ten different Time Lords but since I am the last one the TARDIS has adapted herself to make it easier for me alone to pilot her." He said, that distant and sad look returned to his face. She stood up and walked over to the console and looked around at all the buttons and levers that covered it, most of the things she saw here seamed to not belong but fit anyway.
"Yep she's been good to me, Oh i see you've noticed some of the Jerry rigged parts i have on the console" He said jumping off the bench and running up beside her.
"Jerry what?" She said looking at him, then back at the console.
"Jerry rigged, it means i fixed these controls with stuff that isn't meant to be here, i picked up the term when i traveled to America for a couple weeks to investigate something ." He said looking at the Sherman tank gear shift he had for the stabilizer.
Ditzy shrugged, she had no idea what an America was and she didn't feel like asking the Doctor anymore questions since she could tell he was already annoyed by the bombardment of questions she had just asked. The TARDIS shook violently, catching both the Doctor and Ditzy by surprise.
"Whats going on Doctor?" she had grabbed onto one of the handrail supports and was holding on.
"looks like it found us" He said grabbing the controls and pressing a few buttons, the screen that extended from the control panel clicked on revealing the outside of the TARIDS.
"what is that thing?" she said staring at the dark mass moving thru the shadows, it had the shape of a pony but it's movements were fluid almost as if it was made entirely out of water. She shrank back against the Doctor as the creature lunged at the TARDIS causing it to shake again.
"I haven't the slightest idea of what that is Ditzy, but i don't think it likes us very much." He said pulling a single red lever that protruded out of the side of the control panel. Ditzy watched as the cyan cylinder lite up and a small piston like device inside began to move up and down. The shaking suddenly stopped and the screen that had shown the monster was now pitch black, except for a few far spaced stars.
"There we go" The Doctor said with a smile before running over to the TARDIS' doors and opening them up. She had to shield her eyes from the blinding light of the star that now seamed to be directly in front of the TARDIS. She stepped over to the right of the door to stand inside the shade so she could look out side without having to cover her eyes.
"Whats that?" she said pointing at a large grey object floating directly towards the star.
"That is the ship we were just on, it has been drifting thru space for almost two hundred years and is finally about to reach the end of its journey" He said pointing a hoof at the star.
"What happened to the crew?" She was now looking at him, she glanced at the ship every few seconds not wanting to miss the moment it entered the star's orbit.
"Well I'm guessing that the creature that was still on board when we arrived got them, amazing that it's still alive although im guessing that is because it was in some kind of hibernative state until we showed up and woke it up again." Ditzy turned away from him and watched the ship slowly floating thru space.
"Did you plan this Doctor?" She said looking at him.
"Well yes and no, yes because i wanted to show you an event like this where nopony got hurt, and no because i didn't plan on landing inside the ship" He looked at her then back at the ship.
"Only reason we went inside the ship and wondered around was because we arrived about an hour earlier than i planned and had some time to kill" He had glanced back at Ditzy to see she was watching the ship to.
"What about the creature?" she said not looking at him. He looked at her for a few seconds before she finally turned her head
"I had no idea that there was anything still alive on that ship" He smiled before looking at the grey mass floating in front of them. He hated lying to her but he didn't want her thinking he had purposely put her in danger, no what had happened was just bad luck, yes he knew about the creature but he had no clue it was so dangerous, if he had known that he wouldn't have allowed her to leave the TARDIS in the first place. He looked up from the floor to see the ship had begun to fall apart and most of it had been engulfed in flames. The pieces that were ripped off flew towards the star but never reached it, they simple where vaporized into nothingness from the intense heat.
A large explosion broke the silence as it ripped thru the ship, signaling that the heat had finally reached the ship's fuel supply, the few burning pieces of metal that remained slowly floated thru space until they were vaporized by the star, when everything was silent again the doctor clapped his hooves together and the doors to the TARDIS slammed shut making Ditzy jump back in surprise.
"Ok Ditzy where to now, OH i know lets go to Thala, I heard from one of the locals of the last planet we went to that Thala has an entire ocean made out of crystal" He said pulling a few levers before turning to look at Ditzy as she walked up next to him.
"Sure Doctor, that sounds really interesting" She said smiling at him. He ran around the console a few times before walking up to Ditzy and looking down at the control panel.
"Push that button right there Ditzy" He said pointing at the button, he hardly ever let anyone help him pilot the TARDIS but she had been traveling with him for a couple months now and he trusted her completely. Ditzy lifted a hoof and slowly pushed down the button not knowing what would happen, for all she knew this button could be the self destruct button to the TARDIS. She kept remember parts from some of the books she had read at Twilight's library about how the villains always placed a self destruct button somewhere on their deadly machine that the good pony would always find and defeat the villain using it.
The TARDIS made its usual noise signaling that it was taking off and the TARDIS began to vibrate a bit.
"And off we go into the time steam, Allons-y" The doctor said smiling down at her.
She loved to travel with him since everywhere and everyWHEN they went was an adventure, this strange man that appeared that summer's day near the edge of the forest, had offered her the entire universe and she had gladly came along with him, She had no reason not to trust him since he always seamed to do the right thing, sure a lot of ponies have died on the adventures they have went on, but he tried his hardest to saved all the ones he could, right?
She looked at him to see he was to busy watching the monitor in front of him to see that she was now looking at him with a worried expression on her face. He had told her that he had traveled with a lot of different companions but never told her what really happened to them, she was beginning to suspect that the reason he had that sad look in his eyes was because all his previous companions had met an untimely end.
"Come on Ditzy, your being silly, he probably just dropped them off in their correct times when they had grown tired of exploring" she thought looking back at him as the TARDIS came to a sudden stop.
"Here we are Ditzy, Thala" He said running over to the door and flinging it open. She sat by the control panel still deep in thought before standing up and slowly walking outside, sure she had seen the crystal empire once or twice but never an entire ocean made out of crystal. She forced herself to stop thinking about his past companions so she could enjoy this trip, she knew as long as she stayed close to the Doctor nothing bad would happen and if it did he always set things right and both of them would be in the TARDIS about to take off to another place laughing about how scared they were and how much running they did. She smiled and quickly ran down the stairs to try and follow him before she got to far behind.
