The Opposite Of the Best Day Ever

I woke up about fifty times that night. I was so exited about racing Rainbow Dash! I remember I used to always beat Victor, my older brother, in races all the time before the war. We were both kids at the time and only Kate, the third youngest child of my parents was there. Toby and Marcy weren't born yet. Marcy would always be missed. She died when she was just a wee baby. I remembered that day. We also lost our mother to the Infernum Monstri who killed Marcy. Sad . . .

"Hey! Wake up! Cheer up! C'mon! Let's get this race on the run!" a familiar hyper voice yelled in my ear. I looked up.

"Why are you here? Isn't this Fluttershy's house? How'd you get in? She's upstairs sleeping." I asked. Pinkie Pie only laughed as if the answer was obvious. I simply blinked and stared blankly at her.

"I have my ways . . ." she said sneakily. I tilted my head.

"What ways? How'd you get in?"

"There's a perfect explanation! 'Cause i'm Pinkie Pie!" the party pony bounced around triumphantly.

"Seriously Pinkie." I said flatly. Pinkie stopped bouncing and got very serious.

"Okay then . . . I could tell you . . . but I would have to kill you after." my eyes shrunk. I didn't know if Pinkie was serious or not. Sweat dripped down my forehead from the pressure of her intense stare. I gulped. Was I that curious?

"Um . . . . . . . . I uh, don't know if your um, being serious right now so uh, I don't think I wanna know." I said in a shaky voice. Pinkie smiled again and regained her usual perky attitude.

"Always works!" she squealed to herself. What the fuck? Does that mean . . . ?

Naaaaah.

I got off the couch and headed for the door. Pinkie followed.

"Are you going to wake Fluttershy? I'm going to buy breakfast because I couldn't even boil water for my life!"

"Is that so?" Pinkie asked in an odd tone. I gulped.

"Uh, hehe. I'm gonna . . . leave now. . ." I raced out of the house. I sorta felt guilty for leaving Fluttershy with that lunatic. I remembered I don't really know where anything is so I raced to Twilight's house/ library to find out where Rainbow Dash lived.

LUNA'S POV

I sighed angrily at myself. I forgot to go to Twilight's! I quickly packed a picnic lunch and started to fly to Ponyville. I hoped Twilight Sparkle was not angered with me and would accept my apology for being late. By the time I would reach Ponyville it should be about afternoon because I kept at a steady pace.

"Luna! make sure you look out for the Pegasus you saw in the Realm of Dreams!" Celestia called after me.

"I will sister!" I replied. I held a basket of goodies in my magical grip. My eyes wandered a while until I spotted a few ponies quarreling. It was a unicorn mare, a earth pony mare, and a Pegasus mare. All three looked angry and were absorbed into the argument.

"I suppose I could stop and see what thee argues about." I said before descending to the ponies. The ponies gasped when they saw me. The earth pony decided to speak first when I got close enough.

She introduced herself as Bon Bon and her marefriend

as Lyra. The third mare was introduced as the clumsy Ditsy Doo, or otherwise referred to as Derpy Whooves.

I sighed and started to ask why they were fighting.

RUBY'S POV

I frowned. Where was Twilight and Spike? They weren't at the library.

"Where are they? I hope they didn't forget the race." I trotted around Ponyville for hours. I looked at my watch that Fluttershy had gotten me yesterday. It was 12:14 pm. I galloped to the edge of Ponyville and peered into a forest that was right to the side. There was a sign. 'DANGEROUS! NO ENTRY! Everfree Forest, caution.' it read. I growled a bit. Where was everyone?

"Everypony look! There she is!" a male voice said. I turned around and saw Spike, Twilight, Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie, and Fluttershy. I sighed in relief.

"I got lost." I smiled sheepishly. The mares and dragon glanced at each other, confused.

"Did ya'll ferget this pony jus' come in Ponyville jus' yesterday 'cause ah sure did!" Applejack laughed finally. The other mares giggled and we trotted deeper into Ponyville. We arrived at a smaller forest. Rainbow Dash was hovering in the air before she did a flip in the air and landed. She sighed irritably and then she turned around.

Then, she saw us and smiled evilly.

" Its about time you got here, pointy ears! I thought you ditched because you were scared I would kick your flank!"

"Haha! Your not getting rid of me that easily!"

"We'll see!"

"I'm sure your not that fast anyways. I'll beat you in five seconds flat!" I laughed loudly. Rainbow Dash didn't look offended as I thought she would. In fact, she looked smug and slightly evil.

"Oh ho ho . . . now your REALLY gonna get it!" the cyan Pegasus snickered. I gulped. If she looks that smug, maybe she IS that fast! We crouched down in a ready position.

"Okay! The first lap is over White Tail Woods! This is a cheating free race so no playing dirty!" Twilight announced.

"And, ya must fly in a straight line to avoid bumpin' each other or crossin' each others paths." Applejack added.

"You must do your best! Pinkie will be a judge in who wins each round. Good luck!" Rarity concluded. Pinkie and Spike got in a hot air balloon with a peddle motor and Rainbow Dash stretched her wings. I did the same. There was a loud BANG and we were off, flapping our wings and flying over White Tail Woods. Rainbow Dash was at an impressive speed. She turned back and flew beside me a couple times to taunt me.

"Ha! Your gonna beat me with that speed?" she snickered.

"Why did you speed up in the beginning? Where you afraid that I WAS faster than you?" I raised a brow. Rainbow Dash looked stunned by my insulting accusation. She burst ahead of me with more speed. I started watching the scenery.

"Rainbow Dash has taken an insult to her insult! Dashie has sped up in anger! Will she keep ahead or give another attempt to taunt Ruby?" Pinkie chattered excitedly. I laughed.

"Probably not!" I said loud enough that Rainbow Dash could hear me. The speedy mare sped up more and then turned around again. She gave me a confident smile.

"Might as well quit while you still have your dignity." she cooed. I tossed hair out of my face. I glared at her playfully.

"Funny."

"Whats so funny!?"

"Its just so funny how you think its MY dignity that's going to need fixing." Rainbow Dash looked so angry at the fact that she hadn't even phased me or my confidence. She flew ahead of me at full speed and stayed like that for a good fifteen minutes.

"I can't believe it! Ruby's sent Dash on the run!" Spike exclaimed from the balloon. Then, Rainbow Dash looked back at me from ahead. She had a devilish sort of grin across her muzzle.

What was she doing now? I hope she's not coming back here again. I stayed at my fast, but steady pace and wondered what tricks Dash had up her . . . sleeves . . . ? Puns are hard when your a pony! Rainbow Dash flew up, higher into the light blue, cloudless sky. I stopped for a moment to see what she was up to.

"Is Rainbow Dash going to do it?" Spike asked. Do what?

"I think she is, Spike! Dashie is going to do a SONIC RAINBOOM!!!!!!!" Pinkie Pie shouted into the microphone. What was a Sonic Rainboom? I watched Rainbow Dash while keeping a fast but even pace. Rainbow Dash flew downwards at an amazing speed and surprised me most when I hear a loud CRACKOOOOOOM!!! and a rainbow trailed her as she flew. She was going faster than before too. That must be taking alot of her energy. Especially since she was flying top speed back and forth to me. The rainbow dissolved away and I saw Dash slow down. I caught up to her and looked at her face. She had a fake smile plastered on her muzzle.

"You'll never beat me . . ." she said weakly. I smirked.

"Watch me." I flew ahead with all my strength. I kept going until i saw the forested land beneath us faded into a clearing. I landed and grinned. There was a flash of purple and four mares appeared in front of me. Then, Dash landed and scowled at me. Pinkie landed the balloon. She and Spike hopped out and congradulated me.

"How'd you beat Rainbow Dash? She's the fastest Pegasus i've ever known!" Spike said. Dash stuck her nose up in the air proudly at this remark.

"Well, at least until you met Ruby." Twilight corrected. Rainbow Dash lowered her head in shame.

"Why, hello, fellow citizens of Ponyville! Dost thou always fly with rainbow trails?" a female voice asked. I looked up. Sure enough, there was a big pony with wings and a horn. The mares and Spike bowed. I stared at them, confused. The mare laughed.

"Who is thee?"

"My name is Ruby. I came here a few days ago. I have to go. I'm running a race with Rainbow Dash! I beat her in the first race!" I boasted. I noticed the wary looks from the other mares. I giggled when Pinkie shoved a cupcake in my mouth.

"Its your favorite! RED VELVET!!!!!!" Pinkie Pie hollered.

TWILIGHT'S POV

Princess Luna and I trotted away from the girls to chat.

"I apologize for thy lateness." Luna said.

"I'm glad you came. To be honest, I forgot you were supposed to come what with Ruby roaming around." I admitted. Luna smiled and lowered her basket that she had been carrying. I smiled.

"A picnic, Luna? How sweet. Y'know . . . you and Princess Celestia could come the day after tomorrow for the talent show. Ruby's attending." I then blushed. "You could also stay over today and 'hang out'. I've been awfully lonely without you."

"Has thou really missed me?" Luna brought her face to mine. I nodded. She chuckled and gave me a light peck on the cheek. We ate the tomato, lettuce, and fruit sandwiches that she packed and drank lemonade with it.

"Lulu, we should get back to the race. They should be almost done by now." We packed up and headed back. Sure enough, Ruby and Rainbow Dash had passed the finish line in a tie and were panting. Pinkie was watching Rainbow Dash with a little more than happiness. Ruby had walked over to Applejack to brag about her speed. I hope she didn't go overboard like Rainbow Dash did. Luna gathered up all the girls and Spike. She introduced herself to Ruby and we headed to Sugar Cube Corner to enjoy some sweets. I yawned.

"I'm heading home guys. I'm tired." I said. Ruby nodded in agreement and chose to stay with me for the night. Luna came too. Pinkie suddenly shoved a cupcake in my mouth and Luna's.

"For that extra 'kick' when you get home." she grinned. My eyes widened.

"You know?"

"Of course! Nothing gets past Pinkie! Now, I just gotta get Ruby a stallion to pair with. . ." I bushed and walked quickly away.
