Luminous Lustre never considered herself to be anything special. Like any other Pegasus, she lives in Cloudsdale, Equestria - or at least, what used to be Equestria. Now it's almost unrecognisable, marred by the influence of the corrupt monarch, King Sombra. Despite these bitter circumstances, Lumi has a relatively ordinary life; going to school, hanging out with her friends and coming home to her father's warm embrace. And yet, something seems missing. A gap, a hole in her existance that cannot be filled with anything other than… her mother. Though having never even seen her before, Lumi just knows that finding her mother is the right thing to do - it's all she wants.

With the aid of her close companion Flickerflit, they set out on a journey that takes them to the furthest reaches of Equestria, and what begins as a humble quest quickly reveals itself to be something of a far greater magnitude.

Even the smallest flame can banish the darkness, if you let it.
