A Summer Evening in Equestria
It's a warm summer night in Equestria, the sky is perfectly clear with not a single cloud in sight and a soft breeze makes its way through the air; the weather patrols from all towns worked together to make sure that this was a perfect day for all of Equestria. The sun that Celestia rose so gracefully out of the east earlier in the day now hangs low in the west, with Luna's moon barely peeking out on the other side of the horizon, casting enough darkness to allow the brightest stars to shine through.
In the residential area of a small town called Ponyville it seemed that everypony was still out and about, eager to enjoy every minute of the perfect day while normally most ponies would be inside preparing for bed. Foals run back and forth across roads and into groups of trees in games of tag or hide and go seek, they're all smiling and laughing, glad to be able to stay out and have a good time with their friends and making new ones when they normally would have to be in bed. The parents of these foals sit on patios or porches in chairs or swings, talking amongst each other of good times recently had, had in the past, or those about to occur; on a normal day topics such as economic, social, and government issues might pass through in their talks, but today was not the time to be talking about that, today was the kind of day to sit back and relax, taking a break from any issue big or small to enjoy the little things. The center of the small town is also buzzing with activity; a cafe in town square had all of its outdoor tables taken while every indoor table was vacant, and even with a half hour wait for an outdoor table nopony seemed to want an indoor table. The towns market is still open even though it normally closes at around six pm, which was a full two and a half hours ago; stall owners decided to stay and sell their goods since ponies were still out and about on the towns streets. Bits came out of saddle bags and various shoppers played for everything from small, seemingly useless trinkets to pots, pans, food, and other household items. The sales-ponies make casual conversations with their customers often, keeping a joyful tone and wishing them a nice night as the shoppers moved onto other business they might have to attend to.
It is now becoming late evening, the sun is nothing more than a dark red streak at the very bottom of the west horizon and Luna's moon can just now be fully seen; all of the stars are out and shining brilliantly, forming complex constellations and making some ponies decide to simply sit back and stare, imaginations wandering to what else could be out there in that never ending expanse of darkness. In a tree library on the other side of town a telescope lens peeks out from between the branches, the hard working and diligent student using said telescope, Twilight Sparkle, insists that she'll take advantage of the perfect star watching conditions to record and study the locations and origins of various constellations, it doesn't take long for her to cast aside her notebook and simply enjoy the beauty the night sky before going out to spend time with her friends, she knew for certain that Pinkie Pie would have some kind of party planned to take advantage of a night like this. In a field just outside of town a group of teenage colts from a pyrotechnics club set up something they have been working on and planning for weeks, they had gotten information in advance from the weather patrol of the great conditions and decided this was the night to try out their very first fireworks display; the club spent about two weeks putting together various homemade colored and patterned explosives and attaching them to homemade rockets, as well as taking a good around of time to set up a launching system to top it all off. Some ponies might not consider this the safest or most practical thing in the world to do, but this group absolutely loved it. One of the colts lit a match and held it to the end of the fuse of their display before turning tail and running behind a large rock with his friends; seconds later the rockets started firing into the air and displaying a wide array of colors and shapes in the night sky, ponies look up and cheer as reds, blues, yellows, greens, and purples fill the sky above them. Everypony in Ponyville is pleasantly surprised by the sudden display, from behind their makeshift launch house the members of the pyrotechnics club sport some of the biggest grins seen in history.
Some ponies on the edge of the mountainside city of Canterlot catch glimpses of color coming from the Ponyville area and think that whatever's going on down there must be fun, but they have just as much fun to attend to in Equestria's capitol city. In Canterlot ponies bustle back and forth on roads paved with cobblestone and lined with marble. Streetlights lit with unicorn magic shine brightly on every street corner as ponies take the opportunity to do some late night window shopping and spend time conversing with friends and family at the various upscale restaurants. Street performers brings smiles of delight to both children and adults as they perform acts ranging from juggling colorful balls to playing ten instruments at once! In another part of the city an outdoor theater proclaims free admittance to a show starring some of the most renowned musicians, including the widely known cellist Octavia, all the seats fill up quickly as expected and the concert begins, orchestral music flows for blocks throughout the city, bringing a calming sensation to those ponies who didn't already have that sense about them.
In Canterlot castle Luna and Celestia look down upon all of Equestria, proud of the glorious day they had creates in coordination with the weather patrol. Not every day could be as perfect of this one, but they were glad to provide one for their subjects whenever possible, because everypony deserves a relaxing day to wind back and enjoy life.
