Songs of The Flames

Ch. 1: Burn Out

Vocal Tunes had just gotten rid of the last storm cloud, her body tired from flying and bucking storm clouds away from Equestria all day. Thankfully, tonight was her day off and she didn't have to perform any concerts, so she dedicated it to spending time with her special somepony, Blue Flame. The mare took a seat on a small cloud nearby that Blue Flame had been laying on, waiting for her to finish up her day. She looked over the napping Pegasus, his coat a shining dark blue and his mane a flaming orange. She smiled and leaned back, resting her eyes, only to be awakened by the sound of his voice. "Oh, uh, hi Vocal Tunes." He said hesitantly, but still had the soft and tender tone to his voice that she loved. Vocal Tunes giggled and pecked his cheek, "Hi."

Blue Flame looked away, hesitant and disappointed in himself, and then looked back at the teal mare with a lost look. "I need to tell you something important, Tunes." he sighed, sitting up straight to look his lover in the eye.
"What's going on?" She asked, hating to see him so down, his copper-toned eyes not big and bright like usual, it worried her.

"Look, I um... I'm crazy for you, and I want you to know that. You're a super cool mare, and I want to be with you. But I'm struggling with so much, and it's a lot of stress and all... I just, I can't do this, I'm sorry. I want to be alone." His voice was stern yet compassionate, which confused Vocal Tunes completely, but her mouth only hung open without words and tears welled up in her eyes. She bit her bottom lip hoping it would keep the tears from rolling down her cheeks. Flame could see the pain in her eyes, and as could she see it in his. It was over. But without realization, his face changed, expressionless, almost cold looking, and he faced away from the sobbing mare, making sure to not make any eye contact. "Sorry, but, stuff happens." And on that note, Blue Flame flew off, leaving his now ex-lover behind without any further explanation.

It had been on and off between the two ponies for a week, "I should've seen this coming." Vocal Tunes mumbled to herself as she watched her special somepony leave her good. She put her hoofs to her face and cried, not understanding much of why he'd dumped her. Was he confused? Unsure? Not ready for a relationship? She couldn't figure it out, but now everything that happened in that small time frame was just a bittersweet memory. A mental picture flashed through her head of the plushy he'd gifted her, sitting on her bed back home. The plushy that Blue Flame gave her was of Rainbow Dash, her idol, and one of the most famous Wonderbolts in all of Equestria. She'd rejoined after marrying Soarin. She pictured all the times their lips were pressed against her, how he was always so kind and gentle, the jokes he cracked, and the one day they spent watching "Doctor Whooves" together. She also remembered the night he opened up to her the most, and how happy it made her, how she realized then that she thought he was the BEST pony ever, and no one could compare.

Vocal Tunes took flight to her home in Cloudsdale where she was neighbors with Rainbow Dash. Dash happened to be her closest friend she could talk to about anything and everything with. Coincidentally, Rainbow Dash had been outside and saw Vocal Tunes crying as she walked into her home, quickly knocking on her door to see what was wrong. Reluctantly, Vocal Tunes answered and Rainbow Dash walked in, "Hey, are you okay Tunes?" She asked.

"No!" The teal Pegasus cried out, her head facing the floor so her lime green mane covered her teary eyes. Dash put a hoof around the poor mare and nuzzled her neck lovingly.

"Come on, tell me everything." She said, looking at her friend, saddened by the fact she seemed so hurt. The two took a seat on Tunes' couch, and the sobbing mare told her best friend everything she possibly could. Dash barely knew what to say to cheer up her pal, but continued to re-assure her that they may have a chance in the future. The light blue Pegasus gave the other mare one last big hug before she left. Vocal Tunes had sauntered off to room, turning on her music player softly, and then climbed into bed, clutching at her plushy. An overnight storm came rolling in that night, and as Tunes cringed at every crack of thunder, hating the fact that she was still scared of thunderstorms, she couldn't get Blue Flame out of her head, and she slowly wept herself to sleep.

Vocal Tunes woke up a lot that night, her body unsettled and restless. It drove her nuts. Every time she woke up she'd start bawling in tears for no real reason, and she'd clutch the plushy to her even more, almost to the point of popping it at the seams. She couldn't control herself, and when the next day rolled over, the storm outside was still going strong. She felt miserable, and dared not to budge from her bed. Her manager was blowing up her cell phone that day, wondering where the heck in Equestria she was because she had shows to perform. But the moping mare could care less about singing that day, she had no energy, and she definitely wasn't going to put up with the snootiness of Rarity trying to dress her 'correctly' today. Instead she made herself some tomato soup and grilled cheese, popped in a sappy movie, and curled up on her couch, not giving a second thought to anything but about missing Blue Flame. After bumming around her house and moping all day, the teal Pegasus decided to poor herself out into a song, and began writing lyrics to what she’d hope to be her next debut single. After hours of working on her mini-project, she had finally come up with a title: Burn Out.
