Mother’s Day.

Rainbow Dash looked up at the sky quietly.

It was one in the morning; all of her pegasi friends were asleep. She was alone, sitting on an ordinary cloud, looking at the sky.

Rainbow Dash tilted her head sideways. The moon was still strong, but slowly fading away from her eyesight.

Mother’s Day.

Her mind raced again.

What was the point of Mother’s Day anyways if you didn’t have parents? If you were an orphan? No brothers or sisters to count on?

Rainbow Dash’s mind swelled up with anger. The creators of Mother’s Day should deserve a huge punch in the face.

Rainbow Dash was about to scream when she felt a soft tap on her back.

“Hey Rainbow…what are you doing up so late?” Scootaloo asked curiously. Her eyes were wide open, and she didn’t seem to be sleepy like most ponies.

Rainbow Dash grabbed Scootaloo and placed her on her own shoulder. She pointed to the moon and guided Scootaloo’s hoof around the moon like an airplane. Scootaloo laughed, her eyes focusing on Rainbow’s. They seemed to have a particular twinkle.

“Rainbow…?” Scootaloo questioned once again. It was too bad to spend Mother’s Day with a quiet sister, Scootaloo thought. Might as well wake her up again.

“Hey Scoots.” Rainbow smiled at Scootaloo, her eyes perfectly aligning Scootaloo’s. She raised Scootaloo in the sky, and just as she was about to slip, Rainbow caught her and pinned her to her chest in an everlasting hug.

Scootaloo didn’t say a word. Ruining the moment would be history-breaking, and nopony had ever had a sister like this anyways. Rainbow was the kindest sister and most loyal you could ask for.

“Climb onto my back, kid. I got an idea.” Rainbow lay down on her stomach, her face full of excitement and wonders. Scootaloo eagerly nodded, her head bouncing up and down. She flapped her wings for a moment, bouncing excitedly, and then hugged Rainbow’s neck.

“Hold on tight, Scoots. We’re gonna go far.” Rainbow pulled Scootaloo’s hooves around her neck and tried to wrap them on her neck, but ended up simply placing them in a ‘Firepony’s Tug’. Scootaloo tried to loosen the tug, but Rainbow just patted Scootaloo’s hoof and tugged it tighter once again.

Was Rainbow Dash insane? Scootaloo’s mind wandered off, full of questions.

There was no chance to answer as Rainbow immediately aimed upwards, Scootaloo hanging on her neck. Rainbow blasted towards her destination without a word, a lovely streak of rainbow following her. Scootaloo curiously watched as Rainbow flew higher and higher until she stopped. The sisters settled on a cloud.

It was amazing. Scootaloo gasped at the sight of the endless amount of clouds plastered in the sky. But the beauty?

The moon was right there. Just a few flaps away from the clouds. Peacefully and slowly moving away.

“Rainbow...Is it possible to…to…touch the moon?” Scootaloo stuttered. Rainbow hesitantly looked at Scootaloo.

“Sure it is. Let’s do it right now.” Rainbow gestured for Scootaloo to hop back on her back. Scootaloo followed, her hooves ever so slightly trembling. Rainbow flapped her wings once, and then blasted off again towards the moon.

It was an amazing sight to see. A rainbow-colored-mane pegasus along with her little sister, barely clinging off her back, both zipping off towards the moon.

“Scoots?” Rainbow asked, panting and puffing exhaustedly.

“Y...yeah?” Scootaloo replied hesitantly. Her eyes were firmly closed shut as they could be. Scootaloo didn’t know if they were on ground or not either.

“I think we’re here.”

Scootaloo opened her eyes, the eyelids slowly moving upwards.

“Wow….” She gasped at the moon in wonder.

They were right in front of it. They were right in front of the moon.

It was ever so slightly moving away, but it twinkled in wonder and questions. What would happen? What would be left?

Rainbow looked at Scootaloo confidently. She looked back at her sister, slightly scared.

“Go ahead and touch it.”

Scootaloo looked at her sister unsurely.

Rainbow nodded back again, her confidence boldly shining out in her eyes.

Scootaloo took a breath of air and turned back to the glimmering moon. It was slightly away, so Rainbow pushed the cloud right near it once again and looked at Scootaloo, determined to achieve this wish.

“O-o-ok…” Scootaloo reached over, her hoof stretched out. It was so close…she could almost...

Scootaloo touched the moon. Instantly after that, she opened her mouth.

“I…I touched the moon?” She stuttered. She looked at Rainbow worriedly, thinking that it might be an illusion.

“You sure did, Scoots. You sure did.” Rainbow pushed Scootaloo back into her hooves for a safe hug.

“Thank you Rainbow Dash. This was the best Mother’s Day ever.”
