The One Left Behind

The blue unicorn ambled down the road. She looked back over her shoulder down the road she had come from and sighed, "Two days since that stupid amulet messed me up." she looked back down the road she was on and shook her head. "That amulet was supposed to be all powerful," she sighed as she continued on down the road, "It was supposed to help me, but all it did was corrupt me, sent me after Twilight. It made me forget all about him..." A tear came to her eye as she looked up, "Wally."

The little blue unicorn bolted out of the door to her house, "Mom, I got to go tell Wally..." She galloped at top speed down the road toward the other side of town and the melon farm. She rounded a corner and slammed face first into something and hit the ground.

As tears welled into her eyes from the pain a green hoof came down to hers and helped her up, "You should be more careful there Trix."

She looked up at the smiling green colt witht the pink mane and tail, then frowned, "Wallace, that hurt."

"You bumped into me, Trixie." He returned with a smile.

Her face lifted and she burst into a smile,  "Look, I finally got it," She thrust her flank up, "My Cutie Mark." She danced giddily.

He looked at the cutie mark like he was analyzing it. "Meh, mine's so much cooler, but I guess your cutie mark is cool to."

"All you do is spit seeds, my special talent is magic," She said.

"Prove it"

She grabbed his hoof and pulled him, "Fine, let's go to the secret place." She ran along with him close behind.

They came up on a tall tree with a treehouse up near the top with a rope ladder leading up. Wally jumped on the ladder and climbed up quickly. Trixie climbed up with her usual trouble just as she got near the top she slipped and almost fell, till a green hoof caught hers.

"See can't rely on magic," Wally said hauling her up to him. "Hold on."

Trixie held him,  "Thanks, Wally."

He pulled up into the treehouse, "There we go, let's see your magic do that."

She leaped off and huffed, "I'll show you what magic can do." She looked over at the extra rope in the corner. She began focusing on it and it started to levitate.

Wally's eyes widened, "Cool. Ooo, Do me, levitate me now."

Trixie smiled, "Yea," the rope dropped to the ground. She turned and started focusing as hard as she could on him.

Wally felt himself get lighter, then nothing as Trixie collapsed onto the ground panting and exhausted. He walked over to her and pulled her up to him with a hoof around her shoulder. "Don't worry, Trix, keep practicing and soon you'll be Great..."

Trixie tripped over a rock and hit the ground. "Ouch, stupid rock. Stupid rock farm, I can't believe I had to resort to working at a rock farm to earn the rest of the money for buy that worthless Alicorn Amulet, but after the first Ponyville incident my reputation was destroyed along with my cart."

She continued down the road, "I heard about the amulet and started traveling as The Great and Powerful Trixie, to try and earn the money to buy it. But because of the incident I almost lost my life, and....my hat." She levitated the hat down to her eye level and looked at it as tears ran down her cheeks.

Their was a knock at the door. Trixie ran down the stairs, "I got it mom." She threw open the door with her magic before she reached it, and saw Wally standing there.

Wally smiled his special smile at her and walked in. "I got you a present for Hearts and Hooves Day, Trix." He placed on the floor.

She immediately levitated the package and the wrapping flew off in bits as her magic shredded it. Inside was a box which she put on the ground and lifted the top.

Wally looked at her as she levitated a blue pointed hat with blue and gold stars on it. "If you're gonna be a Powerful Magician, you'll need a proper Wizard's hat. Put it on." Trixie levitated to her head and let it fall on, It fell over eyes. "Woops, guess I had it made a little to big for ya. But I'm sure you'll grow into it."

Trixie lifted the hat off and set it down. "Wait here, I got you a gift to." She turned and ran up the stairs. A few seconds later she came running back down panting, " Here." She floated a small case over to him and popped it open showing a pair of black rimmed sunglasses with pink lenses.

He pulled them out and put them on, "These are so cool." He walked closer to her, "And so are you." They leaned together and nuzzled their noses.

Trixie put the hat back on her head. "It's my fault, If I wasn't so stupid. She continued walking. She was alone on this stretch of road, just as she had hoped she would be, She needed to try and think of what she'd say. She looked up and saw buildings on the horizon, "There it is, home." She stopped. "How can I go back? I failed. I never got the cure." She threw head and yelled, "It was all my fault," She looked back to the ground tears flowing to the ground, "and I never found the way to fix it."

Trixie knocked on the door to the Melon residence, "Wally, I got it, I got it." The door opened showing the green colt in his sunglasses.

"Got what, Trix?" He answered.

She looked up at him smiling, "The levitation spell. Come on," she grabbed his hoof and pulled him along, "It took me three years but I finally got it."

They ran to the treehouse and as Wally climbed up the rope ladder Trixie nearly flew past him as she used her own spell to lighten herself. "Come on slowpoke." She called at him.

Wally topped the rope and gave a hoof-up, which she took just to have his hoof on hers. "Well, Trix, lets see it." She nodded. "Wait," he said just as she was about to start, he walked her out onto the balcony. "In case, your magic is powerful enough to put me through the roof."

She started concentrating on him and he felt himself lighten again but this time he felt his hooves leave the ground. "Trix, you did it. I'm up." He moved his hooves like swimming and lightly floated himself to the railing, "This is amazing, Trix." He turned to her and saw that she was sweating,  and looked like she might be in pain. "Trix? Are you ok."

"Wally," she forced through gritted teeth, "Come ba...." But she lost control and the spell faded as she passed out, the last thing she saw was Wally go over the edge of the balcony. "Wal...ly."

She came awake to the sounds of a beep. Her eyes snapped open,  and she snapped up, "WALLY!!!"

She tried to get out of bed, but a hoof held her down, "No honey, you're not strong enough yet." Her mother was over her.

"But mom, what about Wally? I have to help him, he fell...balcony," Tears came from her eyes, "Where is he?"

Her mother floated the curtain back with a bit of her magic and on the other side Trixie saw Walter Melon and Honey Dew, Wally's parents. They moved and Trixie jumped out of bed and ran to his bedside. Honey Dew put an arm around her shoulder and looked into her eyes, "They say he's in a bad coma."

Walter walked around to the other side of the bed, "That he survived the fall at all, is a miracle, Celestia be thanked. But, they say he may not wake up," he hung his head low and shook it a little, "ever."

Trixie's eyes widened in horror, "NOOO," she screamed. "Its my fault," she started sobbing.  "If I hadn't tried that stupid trick, he wouldn't be....I knew that it wasn't ready yet. But I was so sure." Trixie ran to the door, "No, I'll find a way, I'll go to Canterlot and joined the school there, read the books, I'll find something."

"Honey please think this through," her mother approached her.

Trixie ran out the door yelling back, "NO, I will fix this, if its the last thing I ever do. I swear it."

She picked herself back up off the ground after having fallen in a fit of sobbing and choking. "And I failed, utterly. Everything," she looked up the road. "I failed out of Magic School, failed at Ponyville, failed as a traveling magician. Even all the time I spent collecting the money for the Alicorn Amulet, was wasted on that failure, and now I return home with no cure, or anything. I return home a failure."

She slowly walked up the road till she clearly saw the buildings and a few ponies at the edge of town. She tried to lift her head and say, "The Great and Powerful Trixie returns, a Lame and Powerless, fail...." But she cut off short.

She shook her head, "No it can't be," She looked at the pony in front of the crowd.

"What was that Trix?"

"Wally."
