The sun rose on the far off horizon, and greeted Ponyville to its cheerful rays. Animals coming out of their natural habitats, and roaming around in the fields. Ponies coming out of their homes, ready to work another day. Everypony opens their shops to greet their friends and daily incomes, but one particullar pony is still on his way to his job. That particullar pony is Doctor Blood Cross, most ponies call him Doctor Cross, the most famous doctor in Ponyville. His cutie mark was a medical cross next to a test tube. His coat was an extremely dark red, and his mane had strips of red and white as well as his tail. His iris was a really light red shade, and his expression was blank, and was also carrying a saddle bag. When he continuned walking for a couple more minutes, he arrived at his office. He went to the door, and dug around in his saddle bag for his keys.
"Aha! There you are," he said while unlocking the door to his office. He walked and flipped his closed sign to "open". He put away the stack of papers on his desk in one of the many file drawers he owned. He cleaned up his lab table, where he works most of the time, to make sure it was ready to use another day. He also fixed up his medical cabinets where he keeps the medicine he perscribes to his patients, so that it was in order. After, he swept the floor to keep away the dust particles on the ground. Then, he put on his medical coat, which was a white coat that had his name on it, and went outside to get the daily newspaper, and started to pick it up with his magic. Then came in again, and sat at his desk to read it. "Hmm ... another disease that popped out 'o nowhere again huh?" he said to himself reading the main article. "Lets see ... According to Spring Song, her brother has caught an awful disease that apparently makes you vomit excessively, causes irritable rashes, and a fever ... Wow I'm surprised this stallion is still living. I mean all that throwing up, and the scratching, woah ... I'd want to kill myself if I had that. Where is this taking place anyway? Lets see ... hmm ... Ponyville? Well that's not good now is it?" Blood Cross put down the newspaper, and got off his chair. He trotted towards his equipment and saddle bag. He put his equipment in a case so they wouldn't break in the bag, and place the case in the bag. Then he started to look for Spring Songs' location in his residents book-he needs one or else he wouldn't know half the poines here-and found her location. He grabbed his saddle bag and swung it on his back, and started to head towards the door, but right when he was about to open it, the door swung open.
"Doctor!? Doctor are you here!?" a mysterious voice said.
"Yef, U'm rrght hre, bhnd the dor," he said. The mysterious pony realized that she had smashed the doctor and pulled the door back to let him out. "Phew, I thought I was going to need to perform surgery on myself again. *shiver* Ugh, I don't want to remember what I had to do last time when my jaw cracked," he said to himself. The other pony giggled, then remembered what she came for.
"Oh right, Doctor I'm here because my brother has an awful disease, and-,"
"And you need my help to get rid of it," Blood Cross said while rubbing his head with his hoof. "And let me guess, your Spring Song?"
"Why yes, Yes I am. How'd you know?" Spring Song asked with a confused look on her face. Blood Cross went to his desk to grab the newspaper, and came back pointing at the main article with his hoof. "Oh ... right," she said with a slight giggle.
"I was on my way to your place to see what I could do to help," He said. He remembered about his equipment in his saddle bag, and dashed to it to check if it was OK. "Oh dear! I hope none of my equipment broke!" he said looking through his bag. He looked through all his equipment to see if there were any cracks, dents, or chips, and was glad that there was none. "Phew, thank Celestia, anyway, want to show me to your place, or does your brother live somewhere else?" he asked.
"Oh no, my brother lives with me, he promised mom that he would watch over me all the time, so he never moved out," she said. "Follow me. I'll show you the way," she added. Before they left, Blood Cross swung the bag on his back again. Then, her and Blood Cross went on their way to her house, to see what he could do about his new disease. The doctor received a couple of hellos from ponies he's treated in the past. He waved back with a smile at them.
"Wow, you know a lot of ponies here," Spring Song said.
"Well of course, I mean I've treated almost everypony here. Everypony knows me, and respects me. Though I just wished they would treat me like a friend, not somepony who saved their life, hah," Blood Cross said with a laugh.
"Well I guess your going to be saving another life,"
"Guess so. Looks like there'll be another pony, or stallion in this case, that will know me for saving his life, heh,"
"Suppose so," Spring Song said, finishing the conversation. They continued walking for a couple a minutes till they arrived at her house. She greeted Blood Cross inside to check up on her brother. They walked into the room where her brother laid in bed.
"Leon, Doctor Cross is here to see you," Spring Song said to her brother.
"Oh -cough- he is. Well *pant pant* I'm glad the most famous doctor in Ponyville is here. -cough- It makes me a bit more relaxed about me having an unknown disease," Leon said with a weak voice.
"Well I assure you, I will do my best to cure you. I Promise," Blood Cross said pulling out his equipment. "Um, Spring Song, is it alright if I use this table?" he asked.
"Sure, be my guest," She said with a smile.
"Ok thanks," Spring Song dragged the desk over to him, and he place his equipment on it. "Now let's get started. First, I'm going to need some samples to find the source of the disease, then I'm going to need a sample of your sister to check if she doesn't have the same cells, or bacteria inside of her. So if you don't mind, I'll begin," Blood Cross got out a tube and two cotton swabs out of his bag, and sat them on the table. Then he got one cotton swab with his magic, and held it to Leons' mouth. "Can you open your mouth for me please?" he asked. Leon obeyed and opened his mouth, so the doctor can do his thing. Blood Cross put the cotton swab inside of Leons' mouth and collected a saliva sample from him to test for any signs of the source. Blood Cross pulled out the swab, and held it over the tube. He tapped the side of the tube gently to let the saliva slowly come down. He then pulled another tube from his bag, and got the other cotton swab. "Is it alright if I get a sample of your DNA?" he asked Spring Song. Spring Song nodded and opened her mouth. Blood Cross then put the cottonswab inside of her mouth, and pulled it out when he had enough DNA from her saliva. He then put her saliva into the other tube, and closed them both up.
"Ok, now that I have the samples, I'm going to have to head back to my office to examine them if thats alright. I'll write to you two as soon as I get the results. It's going to take atleast three days for me to come up with a cure ok? I'll send that to you as well. In the mean time, Spring Song can you keep me updated with Leons' condition everyday?"
"Sure, I'll be make sure to tell you if anything happens to my brother,"
"Ok good, Oh and Leon ..."
"-cough- Yes doctor? *sniff*"
"Hang in there ok. I'll make sure to make this a top priority for me. I'll try to come up with the cure as fast as I can,"
"I'll make sure to -cough cough- do that doctor," Leon said trying to smile at the doctor.
"Ok then," Blood Cross starts, "I'll be heading on my way then. I'll be sure to drop in once-in-a-while to check up on Leon," Blood Cross said while putting his equipment and samples away in his bag. "Cya two later," he said while waving his hoof to them, and headed out the door with his bag on his back.
Leon and Spring Song looked at each other, and smiled.
Intermission: Enter, Doctor Blood Cross
"Daddy? What's that?" The young colt asked his father, who was at his desk.
"Haha, nothing to worry over son. Its just the equipment I use for my job. I'm currently working a cure for a certain uncurable disease. I just need to find out why the pathogen targets the immune system ..." He continued to his work, and the young colt cocked his head to the side, not knowing about twenty-five percent of what his father had just said.
The young colt walked around his father to see what he was doing more clearly. He noticed his father working with test tubes, and a microscope. He saw his father looking into the microscope, then writing down his findings. He was happy to have a doctor as a father. Even if at times other ponies would make fun of his father for thinking of the impossible, but he believed in him. He knew his father would one day get the title of 'Most Famous Doctor in Ponyville'. He didn't let anyone make fun of his father. he would always tell ponies of how his father saved him from a bad virus-even though he had no idea what a virus was at time- but ponies would still laugh. he didn't let any of this get to him.
He then coughed up blood.
"Oh dear, the virus seem to be entering you again. Here," His father got a bottle from the top self, and magically opened. He got a spoon, and poured some of the purple liquid onto it. He then gave the spoon to his son to drink it. "Drink it, and it won't be able to enter you again in about a year."
His son took the spoon and drank his medicine. "Yuck! How many more times do I have to drink this yucky medicine?"
"One more time, and that'll be it, I promise,"
"OK," the young colt started to leave his fathers office
"Oh, and Blood Cross ..."
"Yes daddy?"
"Please stop worrying about me, I'll be fine. I won't let this sickness beat me OK?"
"OK, daddy,"
"That's a good lad, now go play outside with some of your friends,"
~Eleven years Later~
Blood Cross was walking back home from school. His father had enrolled him into a medical school, in hopes that his son would soon join him in his line of expertise. Blood Cross had just learned about how to treat almost every diseases, and how each one can enter the body. Also on how your body reacts to most of them. His father had become more sick everyday, at times Blood Cross thought it was the same sickness that had plagued him two years ago, but his father kept telling him that he had gotten rid of it. Blood Cross thought that his father was just trying to spare his feelings about his father potentially dying, so he decided to look into the disease. Thanks to the equipment his father had gotten him when he turned fifteen, he was able to experiment with this disease. We he got home, he said hello to his mother, then went to his parents room to check on his dad.
"Hey dad..." He started, "How are you feeling today?"
"I'm fine Blood Cross, just a little tired today ..."
"Your always tired ... and sweating," Blood Cross told his dad.
"It's fine, the cure I'm working on will be ready in a month. after that, I'll be as good as new," He replied with a little cough.
"But dad, I can create the cure in a da-," He was cutt off.
"I know son, but things like this takes time. You have to be sure it's safe to use before it's finished, and take your time coming up with a cure. Now please son, I'm fine, I refuse your offer for your cure, and please leave me be for a couple of hours," His father pulled the covers over the over his head, and fell asleep. Blood Cross headed to his room. He swung his backpack on his bed, opened it with an opening spell, then got out some papers from it. He walked over to his desk to leave the papers there. He then opened his black box that contained all his equipment, then began to set up his little station.
"Let's see ... maybe the virus inside dad is targeting the immune system, so its got to be the disease he was trying to cure eleven years ago ... Or is it targeting something else. No, its got to be targeting his immune system. He keeps coughing all the time. OK, let's see,"
Blood Cross started working on his cure up until three in the morning. He had 'finished' his cure, but know the tricky part was getting his dad to take it. He knew he couldn't just walk up to him and say 'Here dad, I made the cure for you in a day like I said. Can you try it out for me to see if it works?' Hell no! He had to sneak it. His dad was going to have his morning tea at nine, so he could probably mix the cure with his dad's tea ... Yes that was the best idea he had. Now he just had to make sure that his dad wouldn't notice. He couldn't make the tea, and then mix it. Then his dad would know that he's up to something. Maybe he could just pour it in his tea when his dad isn't looking, but then he would have to be fast enough to actually mix it as well. Shit ... this may be harder then I thought ... He thought to himself.
