The royal sisters Celestia and Luna rule over day and night. Unknown to most ponies there are also two alicorn brothers who rule, but not over day or night, but over life and death. One has the power to choose which souls die, but the other, younger one is the one who decides which souls live. This story is the lost tale of the younger brother, Dafor Lifelock.
