Getting Busted

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Emerald sat on his bed thoughtfully. He had just finished a lesson with his lesson master, Kamodan Corwin. They had studied the Journal of the Magnars together in a very brief session.

Emerald shrugged at his thoughts and pushed them away. There was no time to think. It was getting late, and he needed to rest up on the old shuteye. He shuffled into his bed, turned off the lights, and turned over. The covers don’t need to be pulled up anyways, Emerald thought to himself. He magically turned off the lights and shut his eyes tight.

It was a misty night, and thunder was rolling, followed by flashes of lightning. A masked wizard was travelling the night to an old inn.

“Where be the magician that dares to challenge me?” He asked, his eyes gleaming like rubies. The innkeeper shrugged at the wizard’s question and carelessly threw an extended hoof at him.

“Where’s the bits, pony? Double the price if you’re in business.”

The wizard angrily grabbed the innkeeper’s throat, his other hoof ready to cast spells. The innkeeper squeaked and squirmed around as an orb of purple light appeared in front of his hooves.

“I will ask you for the last time.” The wizard squeezed the innkeeper’s throat tighter.

“Where is the magician that has dared to challenge me?” He growled. The innkeeper was about to suffocate to death, and the orb was glowing darker and darker.

“Right here.” The main door opened, and the thunder roared loudly from outside. Drops of rain spewed from outside as the wizard generated a quick ball of electricity from his hoof and flung it against the wizard.

“Atlantes the Evil. I knew it.” The mysterious hero growled at his enemy. Atlantes recovered from his electric shock and snarled back.

“Chromite...you always had a joke up your sleeve, didn’t you?” Atlantes growled, charging up a mysterious dark purple orb. He quickly swung his arms forward and bounced the orb towards Chromite, only to have him bounce it back like a ball and discharging it.

“Oh, you sneaky little...” Atlantes trailed on fumingly. He quickly clapped his hooves together summoning a large force field. Chromite growled once again, and he sighed.

“You were always the protective one.” He said playfully. Atlantes narrowed his eyes dangerously and grunted at him shortly. He was growing stronger and stronger every second inside that force field.

“Well, say goodbye to your world, C.S. Forever.” He charged up an enormous black orb in his hoof and fired.

The inn was engulfed in blackness. Every corner of the inn was deep, endless holes that lead to another dimension or death, perhaps.

Emerald quickly woke up from his terrible nightmare. His entire body was drenched with sweat, and the covers were messed around the bed violently, as if he had thrashed inside the bed. He hastily grabbed a melting candle and lighted it up, then sat on the edge of his bed silently. Not one word escalated from his mouth, instead, there was panicked breathing patterns.

“I...uh...*huff*...what happened?” He stuttered. His mouth felt empty and numb, and his head was aching. He shuffled outside into the lounge and discovered the small fireplace that was still barely lasting. He sat on the couch and stared at the fireplace quietly.

Emerald sat only for a moment and then walked towards the secret exit. He cautiously walked outside; his hooves ready to blast an orb at anypony who attacked him.

What am I doing? He murmured to himself. I’m disobeying curfew laws from the griffins... He sighed at his thoughts and quickly dived into a bush. If he was going to disobey, might as well do it responsibly. He rested in his spot for a moment or two when he saw something approaching their rock.

2 griffins, he thought. Wait no…they were ponies. One tall and thin and one short and

“Do you think they’ll see it?” The tall pony asked. The other pony growled and pushed him forward.

“Come on, quick! We can loot the place and get out of there!” He grabbed the tall pony and pushed him forward once again, and a small dirt cloud appearing in front of them.

That’ll teach him, snickered Emerald silently and continued to observe the two clumsy bandits.

“Aye! Look at the mess you made!” The short pony yelled. His accomplice quickly placed a hoof over his mouth and signaled a ‘shush’ before removing the hoof again. The short pony growled, his face getting red, but he loudly whispered once again.

“Where’d the dirt cloud come from though?” He asked. Thinnie shrugged in response, his hooves bouncing up and down and fumbling around awkwardly as a breeze of silence brushed through their conversation. Shorty was about to say something when a very confident Emerald wielding a purple orb interrupted him.

“Hello there. Nice day we’re having, aren’t we?” He smiled almost evilly, but remained playful as the orb in his hoof grew bigger and bigger. The bandits yelped, and Thinnie jumped into Shorty’s hooves protectively, his whole body shuddering and his arms raised up for protection. Shorty stumbled for a moment and dropped Thinnie onto the dirt floor before shouting at Emerald fumingly.

“Right, so we get here, and we’re dead already? Gosh, we’d be better off with some crazy sensei than this job…” Shorty murmured. He looked up at Emerald for a final time before blacking out.

“Wow, these poison spells really do the job.” Emerald gave a brief blow towards his hooves and clapped them together happily before blowing on them again. He levitated the 2 limp pony bodies into their hideout, as the sun was about to rise. He slowly walked down the spiral staircase and sat on the couch once again, continuing to levitate the bandits upside down.

A long moment passed, and for a moment, Emerald felt peaceful and quiet.

“What are you doing up so late, my faithful student?” Kamodan approached from his cabin curiously. Emerald gestured his hoof towards the levitating bandits shortly, and his teacher nodded slowly.

“Shall I alert the Headmaster?” Kamodan asked his student. Emerald shrugged and looked back at the fire, his thoughts fading away at the second. He didn’t care, and he didn’t want to care. He had disobeyed curfew, but he would probably be scolded anyways.

“Emerald, you disobeyed curfew didn’t you?” Kamodan secretly put down his raised hoof that allowed him to see into people’s minds. Emerald stole a quick glance at Kamodan’s hoof and nodded.

“I will have to talk to the headmaster about that, Emerald. I’m sorry.” Kamodan dismissed himself and headed towards the headmaster’s study.

Emerald glanced at the bandits and released his levitation clutch on them, letting their limp bodies smack onto the floor. He looked around for a moment, and casted a rapid-fire teleportation spell. The teleportation orbs hit the two bandits immediately and they both disappeared.

“Oh boy, I’m really in for it now…” Emerald murmured, but still paid absolutely no attention and sighed.
