MLP: Friendship Anew
Prologue - Damaged Past
Load Full StoryManehatten was a very cruel place, especially for those who do not fit into pony society, Missy was one of these ponies, she was born into the cruel rituals of this untamed city, Missy was a part of the rarest pony species' in Equestria, she was...
...an Alicorn.
Alicorns are in essence, an amalgamation of Unicorn, Pegasus and Earth Pony, they house untold abilites in magic and most known Alicorns are part of a royal family, this pony however was not as lucky, she was born into a middle-class family as an only foal, her upbringing was not one of love and caring, but of cruelty and abandonement.
Missy wasn't given the acceptance that she so dearly desired, not even from the school she studied at, she only learned the most basic of magic and was teased and bullied for being different as an alicorn. There was one day when she felt some form of compassion from her father. He gave her some advice on how to deal with the ponies who teased her.
"Listen to me." He said. "Don't let these ponies bring you down for being who you are, if anything you have more potential than any of them."
This was the only occasion in which Missy ever felt wanted by anypony, her whole life spent chasing after a feeling she didn't know. It would be 6 years before she could know that sensation, the sensation one gets when they feel alive, when they know that they have friends who love them. One day after Magic School, Missy came home to find it empty, her parents had left for a reason she had never figured out. She packed up all of her stuff into a saddlebag and left for somewhere, somewhere where she had a purpose. It was a sunny day in Manehatten, well, as sunny as it can be. Missy was on her way out of Manehatten, when she ran into a stallion. Missy was a blank flank, her eyes are green and her coat is blue, her mane is yellow, with a pink streak in it.
"You look like you're going somewhere fast." The stallion said in a half-humorous tone. He looked deeper into Missy's eyes. "There'es something wrong, i can see it, come with me, talk to me." Missy saw no reason to doubt him so she followed. "So, where ARE you going anyway?"
"I don't know, my parents left last night, i don't know where they went." Missy said, still bringing tears to her eyes.
"Really, they left? No warning or anything?" The stallion asked, obviously he was familiar with her parents, they had never been very open about anything really.
"Yes, they left during school yesterday afternoon, i just packed up my stuff and now i'm on my way out of here." Missy replied in a non-convincing tone, the sadness was clear in her voice.
"Well, i'm headed out to Baltimare later, if you'd like i could take you there." The stallion inquired kindly, he was very concerned even about this filly he didn't know, a rare commodity in such a harsh place. Missy nodded her head and the two went to his home. A couple of hours later, Missy and him left Manehatten for Baltimare and never returned.
"So, i never asked, what's your name?" Missy asked the generous stallion, he was an old stallion, certainly more than 60 years, his mane was grey and his eyes were very baggy.
"The name's Banjo. I travel Equestria playin' my music to the ponies of various bars and such like that." Banjo responded, he'd clearly seen his fair share of action. "So, i noticed you ain't like anypony else, you look more like a princess to me." After the stallion said this, the filly blushed at the compliment.
"I'm no princess, i'm just a regular alicorn." Missy responded in a modest tone, the stallion saw that she really meant it, she didn't see herself as anything special, just a regular pony. "Besides, i can't even use my wings." She twiddled her wings a bit.
"Now, you listen here, don't you let anypony tell you who you are, your life is what you make of it, as far as i'm concerned, you're anything but a regular pony." Banjo replied sternly, making Missy smile, he was the nicest stallion she had ever met, it was a while before they got to Baltimare, they talked all the way there. "I've got a place set up here in Baltimare, that is if you want to stay here." Banjo turned around to face Missy as soon as they had arrived. Missy thought about that for a moment, this man had offered her a way out of her old life and into a new one with quite possibly the most kind stallion she had ever met, how could she say no?
"That sounds like a good idea." Missy cheerfully replied, for the next 6 years, they lived in a house in Baltimare, Missy happily saw him as a father figure, but as anypony knows, all good things must come to an end. A few months after her 14th birthday, Banjo died suddenly, it deeply affected Missy, but one day, she was sitting in the house when she noticed a letter.
Dear Missy
If you're reading this, it probably means that i'm no longer here to help you. Well, this will be the last thing i do on this planet then. I know it's always been an aspiration of yours to learn real magic. So i want you to go to Ponyville and give someone called Twilight Sparkle the enclosed letter, don't open it yourself. She'll understand,
Missy didn't want to disappoint the stallion who had taken care of her for the past 6 years, so she packed up all of her belongings once again, then left for Ponyville, where the events that would unfold there would change her life forever.
