Doctor Whooves stepped out of the TARDIS, setting hoof on the desolate wasteland. It looked like he'd gotten the time right this time, it was definitely the end of the world. Well, a world. Equestria to be exact. Despite the technological advancements; television, computers, phones and everything else Ponykind had invented, they still couldn't hold back the sun. Despite Celestia's control it had continued to expand and expand until living on this planet was too dangerous. Everypony was gone, evacuated across the stars. They were spread out now, the great pony race. Perhaps the second greatest race besides the humans, who had done the same thing. Come to think of it, the reasons for Earth and Equestria's destructions were the exact same! Funny coincidence.
But that was't why the Doctor was here. Many years ago, he had promised his love that he would meet her when time ran out for Equestria. He could see her, waiting for him. Just standing and waiting for him. He ran over, hooves churning up dust as he ran to her. She was so beautiful, graceful and majestic as a swan. Nothing could compare to her beauty, inside and out. His heart swelled and a smile graced his face. He neared her, eyes filling with tears and he wrapped his hooves around her. "Oh how I've missed you my dear Celestia..." He whispered to her.
He took a step back and just admired her. It had been a while since he'd seen Princess Celestia and each day that passed she just seemed to get more beautiful. Her soft white coat, her billowing ethereal mane and the kindness in those pink eyes of hers. It made the hearts of stallions melt, even the hearts of some mares. He sat down beside her and looked at the orange sky. Not long until he popped back to his own timeline, back thousands of years ago. But a promise was a promise and the Doctor never broke a promise, so he would stay and watch the end of the world with her. He looked back at the TARDIS and realized he'd forgotten something. "Just a moment Celestia." He told her before running back to his ship.
When he came back, the Timelord was carrying a bouquet of flowers in his mouth. He set them at her hooves and smiled. "I got these from Fluvene, the planet of the flowers! They had the most amazing flowers Celestia, I just had to get them for you. I hope you like them." He murmured, pressing himself against her slender foreleg. Parts of the sun constantly broke off, flaming comets that went across the sky like horizontal rain. It was a wondrous sight. "I love you Princess Celestia." He told her softly, "There's no where I'd rather be right now then here, with you. Except maybe back where I am always with you, but this is something I vowed to do, something for you. So once again, there is no where I'd rather be sitting then right here, right now on this empty wasteland and wouldn't want to share this moment with anypony except you, my love." He added, hoping he was succeeding at the whole romance thing.
As he watched death near them with every second, he sighed. "I remember when the Elements of Harmony died. Despite popular belief there was no next generation. Nopony fit the requirements and it took you and all the other Princesses to hold back threats. I remember Prince Shining Armor and Princess Mi Amore Cadenza passing away peacefully, I remember the resurrection of Nightmare Moon and how Princess Twilight Sparkle was killed protecting you. You banished Nightmare Moon to the moon for all eternity. I imagine she's watching right now as her former home is lain to waste." He murmured. "Everything must end I suppose. I'll end one day, my regenerations will run out and I'll be buried, most likely in the TARDIS." A lone tear rolled down his face.
"I wish I could pass with you Celestia." He told her suddenly, more tears rolling down his face. "But I can't. Everypony I hold dear dies eventually, I am destined to live for thousands, if not millions of years. Nopony could live as long as I could," He sniffled and rubbed at his eyes before chuckling, "Even you will die one day Celestia. In my memories perhaps, but never in my heart. For I love you more than I've ever loved before. After River passed, I thought I'd never love again but then you came. You accepted me as an alien and you helped me. You are an amazing pony my sweet Celestia," He leaned on her once again, "Listen to this old pony be depressing, time to lighten up a bit. While today is Equestria's death, the ponies aren't dead. Spread out across the stars, galaxies and all that, I'm sure they'll be fine. Just like humans, spread out around the planets. Perhaps some ponies even found Earth, now that would be an interesting tale." He rambled, his head resting on the Monarch's shoulder.
The Doctor looked at the dry, cracked soil below his hooves. "You know what I've learned over my long life Celestia? That love never truly dies. While a body may die, the love never really leaves. It's always on the mind, always with the spirit and it never truly lets go of you. Once you are in love's grasp, you never escape. You might feel like you've slipped through its fingers once in a while, but you never do. Friends change but feelings stay the same as the old saying goes. My love for you will never truly die, neither will my love for River. It's always there, in my soul and in my heart." He didn't know why the words were tumbling out, all he kew was that he needed to say what his heart was telling him. He stood up and stretched his legs, pulling away from Celestia.
"I can only wish that you still love me,"
He picked up the flowers as the wind blew against them,
"Even though I broke my promise the first time I came here,"
He looked down and felt his tears welling up again, threatening to spill over,
"I tried to stay with you for all the years, but when it was time to fulfill my promise I wasn't there. I said five minutes, which was all the time it took for everything t-to end. I was too late then and I'm sorry,"
He explained softly, his voice cracking,
"I can only hope, that after everything i put you through..."
He trailed off as he bowed, placing the flowers on stone,
"That you took your love to the grave, Princess Soleil Brillante Celestia."
He stood up and walked away from the statue on the stone pedestal. He stopped just outside the doors and looked back with sad eyes. "I was the only one besides your sister and niece who knew your terrible secret...
That you weren't immortal."
The TARDIS doors shut and the time machine vanished, leaving the grave of Princess Celestia alone on the desolate wasteland.
