Chapter 1
My ears perked up as the boisterous whistle of the train blew, and the call of the conductor, signaling that we be departing soon. I smiled staring out of the window.
"Finally!" I thought
The train's whistle blew once more, and the train jerked forward. I was off.
It is was going to be a long and drawn out ride, from out in the simple country side to the city of Cloudsdale!
Staring out to the roaming green fields of Appaloosa, I started to think back to a few weeks ago, when I decided to leave.
Father was comforting Mother over the letter I had received from Cloudsdale Tech, a very prestigious school, they had offered me a full scholarship, my sister; Jade, was off to the side her face buried in her hands taking in the letter I read aloud to them, none of us spoke for a while, until jade broke the silence.
" So...are you going?"
I looked at her taken aback, "I...I have to, I can't pass up a chance like this,"
Mother stood and stared at me, her lavender eyes filled with anger "No! I refuse to let you go!"
All I could do was stand there, shocked, and scared, I've seen her angry before, but never like this. "But Mother! This is not something I can pass up! If I don't take this opportunity now I may lose it forever!"
" I do not care! I will not let you hobble off to the city!"
I groaned "You should be happy for me! Just because you didn't get the chance to go doesn't mean you have to bitc-" SMACK!
Jade and father jumped as I stepped back holding my cheek, "You disrespectful brat!" Father had grabbed mother, and jade pulled out her cell and dialed a number, in shock I raced up stairs into my room, slamming my door.
I felt a hand on my shoulder pulling me back from my thoughts, to a blue mare with a worried look on her face. She wore a simple shirt and jeans, much similar to me. "Hey, are you okay?"
I reached up and wiped my eye's realizing I had been crying, "Y-yeah, I'm fine, just...thinking..."
We talked a while, and a few stops later she got up and said her had to get off, she collected her bags and turns but looked back and asked "Hey, I never got your name?"
I smiled "Rain, just call me Rain"
She smiled and handed me a slip of paper with her number on it, and disembarked the train. The train jerked forward again, and my journey continued. My mind soon drifted back to that day.
A soft knocking on my door echoed in my room as I laid on my bed, my faced buried in my pillows.
"Rain?" Jade asked before opening the door.
"What is it, jade..." I said not looking up
Jade sat on the bed next to me, and grabbed my hand, squeezing it gently, "I'm sorry...she didn't mean that...or to do that! Mother is worried is all!"
I shifted into a sitting position, "No... it wasn't that...I just don't understand...why did she get so mad about me going?"
"Well... that's just something she's never been able to talk about, I don't know myself, but you want to got right?" I nodded, "Then go!"
I looked at her confused, "But...mother said...-"
"Forget what she said! You want to go, like you said, you may not get this chance again!"
I smiled and hugged her tight, "Thanks, Jade,"
She wrapped her arms around me, "No problem,"
Over the next week, I spent most of my time packing, unpacking, and repacking. Father had given me a cell phone, one he originally planned to give me on my 21st birthday, I spent a few hours tinkering with it, trying to figure it out, as seeing I never owned a phone before. Jade luckily had one for a while and showed me how to use it properly. Sorting threw my clothes was difficult, I had a bunch of clothes I grew out of years ago, I sorted them into two piles, one for clothes to get rid of, and one to take with me, by the time I was done, roughly more then half my clothes I was getting rid of. I dug through my clothes some more, and found a few jacket's it being close to winter it be a good idea to bring them, seeing as Cloudsdale was much farther north.
Pulling out of my thoughts,I yawned, and flicked open my phone and checked the time, 23:42, it be another seven hours until we reach Cloudsdale, along with two stops along the way, rubbing my thigh, I stood and stretched, and walked around the car, my hooves were a bit numb, understandable seeing how long its been since I had a chance to walk around, after a few minutes I sat back down, my hooves hurt a bit so I untied my boots, they had been a gift from a friend, Black leather, think soles, shiny, they looked very expensive, of course knowing Emerald of course they would be, I smiled, thinking back to the day I got on the train.
The sun had started rising over the horizon, Me, Father, Jade, Emerald, and Onyx sat waiting, Emerald and I were friends since middle school, she was a rich mare that her parents sent down here to live with her cousin's to learn some responsibility, her deep purple eye's always carried a shine of happiness she was around a shop, she'd been saving up to buy a outfit for a few years, I wondered how much she spent on the boots...Emerald was nodding off into sleep and I shook her slightly to wake her up, she always had trouble waking up so early, and she did spend a good part of her morning picking out a outfit for my departure, she wore a dark red shirt, almost as red as my coat, and jean skirt along with gorgeous boots. Honestly I had a very small, but still there, crush on her.
Onyx, she was a strange mare, her mane and coat were a deep black, she always was fiddled with her wings, every now and then I caught her staring at me, I tried asking her if she liked me, but each time she'd just get really nervous and clumsy and fly away as fast as she could, I'd tease her a bit by grabbing her hand every now and then, and saying every time we hanged out alone a 'date', the blush that appear on her was so cute. She tend to wear the same thing, a light blue jacket and dark blue jeans, she have a few other things like a bracelet or a belt, every now and then.
I looked up at the clock on the station wall, 2: 28 am, my train would arrive in two hours, why we got here so early was unclear to me, but seeing everyone here was nice, they got up for me, and it was really unnecessary, but they wanted to, Emerald tried wrapping herself in my left wing and Onyx had been sitting there listening to music, she looked like she was about to nod off too. Jade and Father left a little while ago to grab all of us some snacks, I shifted slightly because my back started to hurt, Emerald moved and her head landed on my chest, I jumped and startled Emerald and Onyx.
Onyx pulled her headphones out, "Rain whats wrong?"
I blushed furiously, "N-nothing!"
Emerald stood up and stretched, "How long was I asleep?"
"Like an hour?" replied Onyx
"Ooh, I'm going to head to the Little fillies room, be back soon Kay?"
Me and Onyx nodded, and Emerald walked off
Onyx looked over at me, and smiled, I couldn't help but blush slightly, Onyx rarely smiled, exceptionally like that, I couldn't help but think how grateful I was for being born with a red coat.
"So your really going huh?" Onyx asked.
"Um..yeah, I never excepted this..."
Onyx giggled at this, another rare sight, "Well just remember to call us and visit during your breaks,"
"Of course! I'd never forget to come visit!" I pouted and crossed my arms over my chest
Onyx blushed and looked away, I couldn't help it, I reached over and grabbed her hand, this caused her to look over at me and blush even more. "Onyx, this will be the last time I'll see you in a while, please, you've dodged this question forever now, I have to know, do you like me?"
Onyx bit her lower lip and tried her best not to look away, yet tried to not look directly at me, "R-rain...I...," she stopped.
"Onyx...," I brought her hand up to my chest, and grasped it in both of my hands, squeezing it gently, "Please....tell me..."
She blushed heavily, "Rain...yes...I do...a lot, and I have for a long time," she looked away.
I blushed a bit and smiled, "Onyx you should have told me sooner!"
"I know...b-but...I thought you may hate me if I did tell you,"
I flicked her nose, "Silly, I would could never hate you!" I leaned over and kissed her on the cheek.
"R-rain!" she blushed redder then my coat, "W-when you get back will you g-"
Emerald, Jade, and Father came back right at that moment, and all I could think at that moment was "Damn!"
When the train pulled in, I hugged and said goodbye to everyone, Emerald broke down into tears, Onyx was on the verge of tears, Jade and father, were sad but didn't cry, I boarded the train and waved at everyone through the window as we pulled off towards the next stop in Appaloosa.
I was torn from my thoughts when the train came to a screeching halt, the conductor walked into the cabin shouting "We've reached Cloudsdale City, please take your bags and belonging before exiting the train," I smiled, I reached the city which held my new life.
I stood up and grabbed my backpack and luggage from the rack above, I pulled out my cell and checked the time, 24:12, we got here early, picking up the last of my bags I left the train and walked out onto the platform.
I smiled and pulled out a slip of paper and read the address, I walked out of the station and checked the first street I came across, "hm...-" I checked my map and started walking
I was concentrating on finding the apartment I'd be staying at, but I was distracted when I heard someone yell "WATCH OUT!!!" I hadn't realize what was going on until it hit me, literally.
I saw a flash of gray before it smashed into me, sending me flying to the ground, when I recovered I sat up using my hand as leverage, after recollecting myself, what I had pushed up on for leverage, it felt soft, fuzzy, and squishy. I looked over and saw a mare laying on her back sprawled out, my hand on her thigh, blushing heavily I pulled my hand back, "Sorry!"
She, sat up rubbing her head, the mare was gray, yellow mane, her wings looked like they've seen worse day's but were still beautiful, she wore a simple gray/blue t-shirt, and dark blue pants , she had a particular sent that smelled of fresh baked muffins, you could easily see her cutie mark, bubbles, all together she was gorgeous, but one thing set her off the most,when she opened her eyes and looked at me, her eyes were looking at two different places, one at me, the other somewhere behind me. another thing that set her off, was her voice, it was rather cute, yet awkward at the same time, she said two simple words, yet they opened a new chapter in my life.
