//-------------------------------------------------------// The Unanswered Question -by KismetStarr- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Where it all begins... //-------------------------------------------------------// Where it all begins... Where it all started... The large white alicorn paced in front of her throne, anxious to receive news from her faithful student Twilight Sparkle. Nearly two years ago she had sent Twilight to a distant country by the name of Foalantis with a mission to scour their ancient texts. When she had sent her faithful student there she had hoped that she would pour through those texts and find what she was searching for, but with each weekly report Twilight had sent her she had felt her hope dwindle. She paced faster as she looked to the time, Twilight's report was nearly a day late which worried her to no end. "Sister," Luna's voice pierced the pacing alicorn's fog. "You need to not worry. Twilight is a smart and resourceful pony, if there is anything wrong I am sure she would have told us." "Two years," Celestia sighed as she slowed in her pacing. "When I sent her to Foalantis I never dreamed that it would take her two years to transcribe them. I know she has been building relationships with our countries as well, as it is her duty as a Princess of Equestria and we both know that she will not fail us in her duties." "Celestia breathe," Luna planted herself in front of her older sister, forcing her to stop and face her. "I am sure that Twilight is fine, but you working yourself into a fit. You need to calm-" A scroll appeared out of nowhere between them, cutting Luna off. "Down..." Luna finished as Celestia grabbed the scroll and began to read it. "Twilight is coming home," Celestia said softly as she magicked the scroll away and looked to her sister. "She found something in the texts so is hurrying home, Prince Chronos will be escorting her back here since there has been threats against her life for removing one of the ancient texts. There seems to be rumors of a possible war in Foalantis that's been building in the past ten years or so. He is afraid for her safety. He will be staying here for about a week before returning home with the text." Luna frowned deeply. "Who wrote you the letter?" She asked as she herself began to pace. "It sounds more like Prince Chronos than Twilight." "That's because he was the one who wrote it, she did add a small bit to the end." Celestia sighed deep!y as she sat upon her throne. "She apologizes for not writing the letter herself but she said she needed to concentrate on the texts. That was all she said, but it was her writing." Luna frowned and moved towards the exit. "When should we expect Twilight and Prince Chronos?" "This evening, they sent the letter from the train when they woke up. They had to sneak out of the city in the middle of the night in order to dodge protesters." Luna froze and turned back to her sister, worry creasing her features just as Celestia's. "Just how bad is it in Foalantis?" She began slowly. "Why exactly did you send her there in such a tumultuous time?" "Prince Chronos' family has held onto these texts since before either one of us was born. These texts hold ancient prophecies and lost history that I wanted to secure from the passages of time. These stories are dark and old, written in a language that is mostly forgotten. Twilight is one of the few I know who has studied this language and so I entrusted her safety to Prince Chronos. He has been trying to understand why is family has protected these texts at the cost of their very lives..." "Oh stars above," Luna whispered. "I will see to it that rooms are prepared for our incoming guests. Let's see, Prince Chronos can stay in the Royal suit in the South Wing while Twilight and the rest of her friends can stay in their usual rooms in the North Wing." "Wait," Celestia called. "What are you talking about?" "Well I assumed since Twilight has not been back in nearly two years that her friends from Ponyville would like to come visit." Luna raised an eyebrow worriedly at her sister. "Did you forget that we promised they would come visit when she returned. I certainly think it will do us both much good to have Pinkie Pie around, let alone Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash. Now perhaps you should get some rest before they all arrive, I will personally retrieve the girls so that Pinkie Pie can get the party we both know she has spent the past two years planning all set up." With that Luna trotted out of the room to prepare everything, leaving Celestia sitting alone in the throne room. "Oh my dear sister," Celestia whispered to herself. "I pray Twilight found the truth about our past. I pray all is not as I fear..." Author's Note This takes place shortly after the events of Season Four, things may seem a little weird but I guarantee that if you stick it out you will enjoy the ride. //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue: The Question //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue: The Question A soft charcoal grey Pegasus with gentle lavender eyes softly tiptoed into her father's office. As usual her father sat hunched over his work bench, fiddling away at the time pieces scattered across it. He was hard at work, not even noticing that she had even stepped into the room. She looked over at her father, fear dancing in her eyes as she gathered up the courage to ask him the question that she had wanted to ask since she had turned five. Today was now the day before her tenth birthday and she couldn't keep it in any longer. She had to ask now, before she lost her nerve and backed away like she had done many times before. “Dad?” “What is it my darling?” The black colt with a clock cutie mark answered, his eyes never leaving the timepiece in his hooves. “Can you tell me about mom?” His hooves froze and he slowly set the clock down gently and turned to face his daughter. “Where did this come from dear?” “Everyone else knows their mom,” she looked away. “I want to know mine.” The colt sighed and trotted over to the couch, patting the spot next to him as he sat down. “Okay,” he smiled and lightly brushed her pale purple mane out of her eyes. “I’ll tell you about her. This story begins a long time ago, when your mother was young and living in Ponyville. Now your mother had many adventures in Ponyville with all of her friends. Together they saved a lot of people, and defeated many evil beings: King Sombra, Discord; before he was reformed, and a vile woman named Queen Chrysalis…” Author's Note This was an idea I had a while back, but I did not know about fimfiction.net until just recently. No, you will not know who the mother is until it is revealed, but she is one of the main 6. You can guess all you want, you will not get an answer from me until it is time to reveal her. ;)
