“I wanna run on all fours
just like anyone around me
so I run after my friends
but my friends wanna catch me
I'm not like anyone else
cause they just wanna hurt me, stop me and torture me but that's alright
Cause I know who I am
but still no one believes me.....”
I believe......
...that it would be the best thing for her!
The doctor, a unicorn with a solid a black mane and green eyes to match his coat, took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes.
“Listen, this patient has one of the most severe cases I have ever seen. What makes you think that moving her to a different location would make anything better?”
The other pony, an earth pony with a solid white coat and brown mane and eyes, crossed his forearms.
“Think about it. You keep her trapped in a cage, she gets fed in bowls, and she is most of the time filled up with medication! Some of your methods, from what I have heard, seem a bit extreme don’t you think?! I believe moving her to a better location would yield better results, you just have to trust me.”
The doctor raised his voice.
“What's makes me think I can trust you! Just some random stranger that just walks in and says: “Hey there! I would to take a very unstable patient home with me!” and you expect ME just to hoof her over!? I don’t think so! And furthermore.....
“You two need to stop this right now!”
The two ponies looked over at the door. The unicorn raised a brow.
“Nurse Coldheart? What brings you here?”
She trotted over to the doctor.
“I think she should go.”
“WHAT!?”
The Doctor slammed his hoof on the desk. “Why would you agree with him?!”
The nurse simply sighed.
“I agree with him. Your methods are cruel and tortures, and never seem to work for her. She even BIT you for Celestia's sake. She obviously does not like being here.”
The doctor rubbed his ear. He could still feel the bite mark from that day.
“I will supervise the situation and watch her closely. If she shows no sign of getting better by the time it comes to her routine checkup, I will bring her back.”
The doctor sighed.
“Fine, she can go.”
Nurse Coldheart and the other pony jumped for joy. The doctor had a look of disgust.
“But remember, no improvement and she comes back here, to be euthanized.”
Nurse Coldheart nearly jumped out of her skin.
“Euthanized!? That was not part of the deal!”
“That’s the deal, take it or leave it.”
The other pony looked over in disbelief at the doctor.
Did he really want to take that much of a chance here? One little mishap and she is gone for good, never to be free from her tortures bonds, except of the sweet release death. He inhaled and exhaled calmly.
“Alright fine, deal.”
Nurse Coldheart looked over at the pony in disbelief. The doctor began to grin madly.
“Sign here, then it will all be complete.”
The other pony read over the document for anything suspicious. After he was satisfied after reading the document, he signed. The doctor spoke.
“So, mister....”
“Edwards, Jeffery Edwards”
“Jeffery, I do not expect much from this little plan of yours, so you go ahead and have your little fun. I will wait here and get everything prepared for the euthanization. You may leave.”
The doctor turned in his chair and began writing in a book. His mad grin covered from the two ponies sitting in the room. Jeffery got up from his seat and began heading towards the door. Nurse Coldheart stopped him.
“Are you crazy? How could you take a deal like that so quickly? Maybe you belong here.”
Jeffery smiled at the nurse.
“Listen, I know this is crazy, but this needs to be done. Of all that I have heard of this place and what has been happening to her, I cannot just sit there and watch anymore. I will do my best to make sure she recovers. I promise.”
Jeffery then began to cross his chest with his hoof and then flap both of them. He finished his movement by placing one hoof on his eye. Nurse Coldheart looked at him with slight confusion.
“I believe you, I believe you can make this right. I will go get her, you just wait in the lobby.”
Jeffery nodded and made his way down the hallway. Nurse Coldheart started her path to the holding cell. The hallway was filled with flickering lights and messy floors. She could hear the cries of the other patients as she went on her way. It left a feeling a guilt walking by these patients. There sounds of pain struck hard on her. Despite her name, she is a very kind and understanding pony. She arrived at the cell, cell number 14. She turned the knob as it slowly creaked open. From the difficulty of turning the knob and the amount of force needed to open, she could tell it had not been opened for a long time.
The room was dark, with the only source of light being a barred window. At first, the only thing she could hear was the sound of her breathing. That silence was broken by the sound a low toned growl.
Nurse Coldheart turned to see Screwloose looking at her dead in the eyes, centimeters away from her face. They had a lifeless look to them, and left a feeling of emptiness and hopelessness. Her mane was disheveled beyond disbelief. The incredibly cold room finally hit Nurse Coldheart when she noticed how badly Screwloose was shaking.
“Oh you poor thing, I am sorry you have to go through this. Let’s get you out of here.”
Nurse Coldheart reached for the muzzle and leash that sat outside the door. As she slowly approached Screwloose, she could see her tense up in both fear and anger.
“It’s ok, I am just….. AHH!”
Screwloose lunged forward and attacked Nurse Coldheart. She was millimeters away from biting her arm. Nurse Coldheart fell backwards onto the wall. Worried that Screwloose might come for a second bite, she tensed up and prepared for the onslaught of attacks from the rabid patient.
As Screwloose lunged forward, another nurse, a male unicorn with a moderate golden coat and scarlet mane and eyes, came in through the open door and slammed into Screwloose. She flew across the room into the wall. The other nurse then pounced on top of Screwloose and used his magic to inject her with a syringe. It took a few moments for the medicine to kick in, but Screwloose finally came to a calming halt. She closed her eyes as she fell into the medicated sleep.
“Nurse Coldheart.”
The unicorn gave her a stern look.
“You should know better than to try to normally apprehend this patient. She is clearly far too unstable to deal with.”
The unicorn looked over at the Screwloose.
“The good doctor told me what was going on. In one month, I can finally be rid of this patient. She is such a nuisance.”
The unicorn left the room. Nurse Coldheart gave this time to slowly regain her balance from the fall. She picked up the leash and muzzle and trotted over to Screwloose. She looked down to see a single tear roll down Screwloose’s face.
“Please forgive us.”
Jeffery sat patiently in the office. He was wondering why it was taking so long to retrieve one pony. He put down the magazine he found, that had an ad for Sugarcube Corner on the cover, to trot to the front desk.
“Excuse me, miss. I was wondering I could get some information on a patient I am picking up?”
“Sure, which patient are you…..”
A cage came rolling in the room on a wagon. Nurse Coldheart came out from behind the cage with a sad expression.
“Hey! What’s up with the cage?”
Nurse Coldheart looked over at Jeffery.
“Trust me, you’re going to need it.”
Nurse Coldheart grabbed Jeffery and pulled him into a hug.
“Please, help her…”
Jeffery could hear small whimpers and felt a small droplet of water land on his shoulder. He grabbed Nurse Coldheart.
“I will do my best.”
Nurse Coldheart reached down and handed Jeffery the handle to the wagon. He gave one more final farewell before making his way towards the door. Nurse Coldheart felt a presence behind her. She turned to see the doctor and the nurse standing a little to close for comfort.
“You know he will not succeed.”
Nurse Coldheart gave the doctor a sharp look.
“No, this will work, I just know it.”
The doctor turned around.
“We will see…”
The doctor and the nurse left side by side. Nurse Coldheart looked over at the closest phone.
“I need to call Doctor Stables.”
As Jeffery pulled the wagon, he heard some slight movement in the cage behind him.
“It’s ok Screwloose, we will have you better in no time!”
He sighed.
“I just hope my roommate handle this decision ok.”
