Chapter 1: Realization
It was another day in Ponyville, ponies were conversing and strolling through town like always. The sun was shining and everypony was attending to their everyday tasks. The serenity was broken quickly though as a small filly with an orange coat and purple mane sped through the center of town on a scooter.
"Move! Get out of the way!" Scootaloo yelled, as she rode down towards the Clubhouse. "Excuse me! Rainbow Dash's little sister coming through!"
Scootaloo sped through town, performing many tricks and stunts on her way to the Clubhouse and doing her best to avoid collision with other ponies. When she arrived, she parked her scooter next to the tree and brought her helmet inside with her.
"Hey! Sorry I'm late girls, I lost track of time practicing some killer stunts." Scootaloo said sheeply. "So what do we have planned today?"
"Oh Hey Scootaloo." Applebloom said. "Ah hate to break it to you, but I actually gotta head back home now, Applejack said she needed me to help with the harvest."
"Seriously? Bummer, that's too bad." Scootaloo said. "What about you Sweetie Belle? Are you going too?"
"Yea... I'm sorry Scootaloo, but Rarity needs someone to try on her new line of dresses..." Sweetie Belle said. "Not that I look forward to that, but I gotta go."
"Aww so I'm gonna be left on my own today?" Scootaloo said.
"I'm sorry Scootaloo, I know it's last minute but ah promise we'll make it up to you!" Applebloom said. "Come on Sweetie Belle."
Applebloom and Sweetie Belle retrieved what ever belongings they brought with them and then proceeded out the door. Scootaloo waved goodbye and then returned inside.
"Great, now what do I do!?" Scootaloo said, looking back at her small wings. "Hmm I guess I could take another crack at trying to fly... not that it ever works but what else could I do."
Scootaloo exited the Clubhouse and went down the ramp proceeding to the field where there was a small cliff, which is where she practiced her flight when she wasn't hanging out with her friends. She took position on the edge and backed up a few steps until she got enough distance. When ready, she ran towards the edge as fast as she could and leap't into the air, fluttering her wings as hard as she could, but to no avail. The filly pegasus plummeted to the ground after her first attempt.
"Grrr... I'm going to get this! How can I call myself Rainbow Dash's little sister if I can't fly with her?" Scootaloo said, irritated. "I can't let her down!"
Scootaloo picked herself up and returned tot he edge of the cliff, leaping off time after time and failing at every attempt. Her anger rising, she backed up one last time and sprinted towards the edge as quickly as she could and fluttered her wings as best she could, pushing herself past her limits. Unfortunately, not even this was enough to get her aloft, as she fell to the ground once more. The small filly laid on her stomach, her face shoved into the grass while faint sounds of sobbing could be heard.
"I can't... I just... can't!" Scootaloo cried. "WHY CAN'T I DO ANYTHING RIGHT!?"
Scootaloo sat up, tears rushing down her face with anger welling up inside of her. She started to rip out patches of grass and dirt to release some steam, but it wasn't helping.
"Why? Why me!? My classmates can fly and even The Cakes BABY can fly!" Scootaloo yelled. "IT'S JUST NOT FAIR! I TRY AND TRY AGAIN BUT I CAN NEVER DO IT!"
Scootaloo turned around to look at her small wings, and an even greater fury built up inside of her.
"IT'S YOUR FAULT THAT I KEEP FAILING! IT'S YOUR FAULT THAT I CAN'T DO ANYTHING!" Scootaloo screamed, covering her eyes with her hooves. "WHY... why am I so... pathetic..."
Scootaloo's anger and rage became replaced with depression and regret, as she laid there on the destroyed grass, curled up and sobbing profusely. After a few minutes, she heard the sound of someone flying overhead. She turned her body around and looked up to see Rainbow Dash, practicing her incredible skills. A small smile came across Scootaloo's face as she watched the blue pegasus perform her stunts.
"She really is just truly amazing..." Scootaloo said. "Why can't I be as good as her?..."
Her smile was soon taken away as she began to realize. Anger, sadness, confusion... multiple emotions filled her mind as she asked herself the same question over and over again.
"Why can't I be like her? Why... why can't I be like her?..." Scootaloo said nervously. "Why can't..."
Scootaloo held her head and then stood up, running back to the Clubhouse and shutting the door tightly behind her. She paced around the room for a bit and spoke to herself quietly. Failure after failure from the past and up until now had a taken a toll on the little filly's mind, and her most recent realization on top of that, may have finally broken her. Scootaloo stopped and started to breathe heavily, and her body was quivering.
"I... I can't do this... I understand now... It took me this long to realize that... I'll never be able to fly, or be like Rainbow Dash..." Scootaloo said. "At least... not with these pathetic little wings... Hehe... no I'll never achieve anything like this..."
Scootaloo hugged herself and continued to speak.
"I-If that's the case... then all I have to do is find somepony who can... help me. If I ever want to fly with her... to be with her..." Scootaloo said scarily. "Rainbow Dash... my big sister... I promise you... I won't be a burden on you anymore... Hehe... I promise..."
