An inauguration, a party, friends, family, merry times were all had. It was like a dream she never had coming true. Twilight Sparkle, now the Princess of Magic.
The first couple of nights were magic on their own with the celebrations. However, all parties eventually end. After it was all said and done it was time to go home. She may be a Princess, but there was no official rule for her. Even still, she would not want to leave her friends. Ponyville was her home, now and always.
“So, why does it feel this empty?” Twilight thought as she sat by her desk, staring out the window. As much as she tried to get back into the swing of her normal life, it all felt so different. The purple alicorn tried to study from her books, she tried making checklists or checklist for checklists, and she even tried preening her wings to pass the time. “Note to self on the last one; ask Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy to teach me.”
No matter the activity, she couldn’t bring herself to focus on it. What does a once in… ever… unicorn transformed alicorn do with her life? She never had trouble finding anything to do with it before, but she wasn’t the student anymore. Her life felt more open, less structured and focused, and she wasn’t sure what to do with it. Speaking of life being more open, maybe it was time to just get out of the library.
“Maybe it’s time I gave these wings a real test…” Twilight said out loud as she headed out the door. She flew before, but it was in the ‘heat of the moment’ kind of situation. She never gave it any thought afterwards, but she did read a book. If reading on how to run worked, why not flying?
“Ok, spread out… angle… lift up… push down and-” Moving her wings in pattern with what she was saying, a grin crossed her face as the feathers easily lifted her up briefly. With a giggle, she follows the instructions again, this time keeping a rhythm to hover in place. As she looked down at the small distance from the ground, she nods with approval and continues to talk herself through it. “Ok. Now I just need to give a bit of power and angle, and take ooaaaaah!”
As soon as she gave thrust, the princess found herself pushing through overhead branches and leaves. Several ‘oof’s and ‘ow’s could be heard before she finally makes it out above her home. The mare manages to get going forward and keep altitude, spitting out some foliage, as she sighed and began making a checklist in her mind, “Ok, when I get back. Lesson one: preening. Lesson two: Take off.”
At least now she had clear skies and open air, so she wasn’t at risk of hitting anything or anypony. She began to understand very quickly why Rainbow Dash liked to fly around so much, it was actually quite relaxing. Even though she was working by flapping her wings, it felt natural enough, no different than going for a walk. Sure, she may not be the most graceful flyer, or the most quick, but she didn’t feel the need to be. All that was needed was to take it all in.
And for the next couple of hours did she take it all in. At first she just circled around town, looking over Ponyville and the Sweet Apple Acres. Yet, eventually she grew a bit bolder and decided to simply choose a direction and fly. She couldn’t help but smile watching the trees pass by below, feeling the wind rushing through her mane.
“I might have to make this a regular exercise…” She thought, idly banking back and forth in a curvy path. Feeling a bit cocky, she tries to do a roll, and finds herself nearly free falling back to the ground before she recovered. In her head she quickly makes another small note, ”Maybe I’ll stick to just flying normally.”
After so long, she began to feel like it was time to go back, and she was about to turn around when she noticed a wagon part way off the road below. Squinting her eyes to try to get a better look as she approached, she thought she might recognize it, “Is that really…? Well only one way to find out!”
Folding her wings inward part way, she begins a swoop downward. It isn’t until she is only a few seconds off that she comes to another realization.
“Lesson three: Laaaaaaaaaaandiiiiiiiiiiing!” Twilight yells out as she glides over the grass of the clearing and is promptly stopped by the back of the cart with a rather loud impact.
A few feet away, towards the front of the cart, a light blue mare is sitting next to a campfire. The yelling and sudden impact cause her head to snap upward, ears up at attention as she looks back, “What is this noise that bothers the Great and Powerful Trixie’s relaxation!?”
The unicorn stands and walks over to where she heard the noise, slowly peeking around the corner of her cart. When she sees the stunned purple pony lying there she lets out a rather surprised yelp and begins speaking quickly, “S-S-Sparkle!? What… What are you doing here? How did you find Trixie? How did you crash… Did Trixie say Great and Powerful? No, no. Clearly she meant the Great and Apologetic….. What are those?”
As the last question, Trixie frowned and pointed at the wings on Twilight’s back. Meanwhile the prone equine shakes her head to clear it, looking back up at the unicorn and smiling. She quickly climbs to her hooves and grabs the other pony, yelling, “Trixie! I thought it was your cart I saw while flying over! Sorry about the dent in it, wings are new, haven’t mastered landing yet. Oh yeah, the wings, I’m an Alicorn now! Isn’t it amazing?!”
At being hugged Trixie blushes out of surprise, pushing away from Twilight, “Uh-Unhand Trixie at once! Apologetic she may be, but she is not your toy to grab and play with! What makes you think you ca- Alicorn? You!?”
The mare stops, speechless for a moment as she looks Twilight over again. Her face quickly shows annoyance and even a bit of anger as she lifts her nose and turns away. Her ears fold back, and she talks as she heads back toward the door of her cart, “Oh sure! No longer content with just being better than Trixie at magic, you must shove it in her face by being an alicorn too. Very well, Sparkle. You got to gloat.”
“I got to, what? No, I didn’t mean…” Twilight trots after the other pony. By the time she caught up, Trixie was already opening the door. Grabbing ahold of the showmare’s light blue tail with her teeth, she pulls Trixie backa bit and tries to explain, “Really, I just happened to find you out here, I wasn’t trying to gloat. Why are you out here, anyhow?”
Trixie frowns in annoyance at being grabbed in such a way again, reaching back with one hoof to pull her tail away from Twilight. The question causes her to let out a sigh, answering as she opened the door of the cart, “If you must know, Trixie has nowhere else to stay but out here for now. Just because she became the Great and Apologetic doesn’t mean everypony simply forgot everything.”
“…Why don’t you come live with us in Ponyville?” The princess asked in response. The other mare, however, only slammed the door shut behind herself. Not to be deterred, Twilight walked right up to the door, yelling for the other to hear beyond it, “I mean it. I’m sure everypony can forgive you. I could even help you with magic. You’d have a place to stay, maybe even make some friends?”
She waited and listened for a response. When none came, she glared at the door and used her magic to fling it open. She saw Trixie lying on her stomach in bed, turned away, as she walked in. With a huff, the alicorn speaks in a stern tone, “If you came out of the closet once in a while!”
Seeing Trixie blush and look back at Twilight in a mixture of surprise and sheer shock, the latter looks down a little trying to think over what she said, “Or was that supposed to be come out of your she-“
Her voice was cut off as a blue muzzle pressed into her own. The sudden closeness of the Unicorn caught her off guard, and she did not have time to register what was happening before she felt the other’s tongue slip into her mouth. As she began to catch up with it all, a blush quickly crosses her face and she backs out of the contact. “T-Trixie!? What are you do-“
“Is this not what you asked, for Trixie to come out…?” Trixie looks at Twilight with a mixture of hope and uncertainty. She knew that the other pony had mixed the phrases, but she wanted to believe otherwise. Even still, she quickly felt the doubt with Twilight’s reaction and lowered her head, turning away as she spoke, “Of course, if Trixie is not good enough for you…”
“What? No! I just… I’ve never… “ Twilight blushed even more, refusing to make eye contact with the light blue mare, “I mean, I never considered, or really thought of, uhm… “
Trixie looked up hearing this, using her own magic to close the door again. She closes the distance between herself and Twilight, bringing her muzzle to the other mare’s once more in a kiss. This time she wrapped a forehoof around behind the purple pony’s neck, keeping the equine in place. To her surprise, as she pushed her tongue into Twilight’s mouth, she felt Twilight reciprocate rather than pull away.
If Twilight was anything, it was a quick study. She mimicked Trixie’s tongue movements, finding herself enjoying the feeling of it all. She was actually a little disappointed to feel Trixie pull back after several seconds. Twilight was breathless as she watched the other mare a bit before starting to talk, “Trixie, I-“
Trixie put a hoof to Twilights mouth to stop her from trying to talk. If there was one thing that might ruin the mood, it would be the alicorn’s habit of babbling at times. Endearing on occasion, but right now she didn’t want to hear it. Instead, she pulled Twilight long by the hoof deeper into the cart, and pulled her onto the bed. Trixie did not give Twilight a chance to wonder about her position before kissing her again, pushing her body against the purple mare’s. “I wouldn’t have offered if I wasn’t.” Walking forward, Twilight gives Trixie a quick kiss on the nose, “Welcome home.”
