Chapter1
My name is Lancer. I am a Unicorn Royal Guard stallion and started ever since I was 18. My coat is a dull gray and my cutie mark is a sword and lance. I never could find love and I was an orphan and never really knew what love was nor was I determined to find the time to love. I kept to myself mainly and never talk to others much. I guess when you’re an orphan and all you want to do is get out of the orphanage I guess the military is the way to go. Now I bet your wondering who Stronghold is, well that will come in due time. How about we start at the battle of the royal wedding……
“Alright men ready your defenses!!!” an old Veteran guard stallion yelled as my platoon watched in horror as the shield, created by Shining Armor the royal guard captain, covering the city crumbled before our eyes. I quickly scrambled to reach my sword and get ready to fight for my life. Thousands upon thousands of changelings swarmed into the city as the shield was obliterated by the constant attacks it took. One by one, two by two, guard stallions were captured as they began to such the love out of each feasting on them, slowly making them loveless husks. I fought hard and long bringing changeling after changeling down one by one. Finally my efforts were rewarded as the commander of the changelings came into my line of sight.
He was a small changeling yet strong and agile. The changeling had lustrous green eyes and wings that didn’t seem as gnarly as the others like he had taken great care of them. We tussled long and hard finally I had secured the changeling commander in a chain of magic and enchanted rope I conjured making sure he wouldn’t go anywhere securing him so that he may be brought to justice and pay for his crimes against the kingdom. “So what are you going to do to me you bothersome guard stallion?” the changeling asked angry I had found an open spot in his defenses to defeat him. “Well I do have to say you were a tough little changeling and scrappy too….. so what I was thinking was I could take you to the princess win her favor and get a promotion in the guard ranks!” I couldn’t help but imagine the promotion and the new amount of income I could use to get a farm of my own. Uh call me Lancer Sword or lancer for short.” I picked the changeling up and picked him upright and sat down next to him waiting to have an all clear. “Stronghold Armor that’s my name but you can call me Stronghold.” The changeling smiled and tried to lift his hoof high enough for a shake but not quite enough. “wait hold on maybe if I take some of this rope off maybe you can shake my hoof huh?” I took the first rope of giving the little changeling some room to move and shake my hoof. “You know that is a dangerous move right… I could go on a rampage and kill you you know.” The changeling looked curiously at me with a face saying what the hell is wrong with you. “Well so what I have nothing better to do and you talk more than some prisoners I have had captive what’s the harm in it you’re a nice funny dude!” I finally decided to take the ropes off completely. “Hahahaha!!! Stupid stallion see ya dumbass!!! Hahahaha!!” the changeling flew out of the building in a hurry and I watched. I couldn’t stop him and he was a fast little creature, so I decided to walk away. I got my things and packed up making sure I was ready to search for any others and take them out.
I didn’t take but four steps when I heard that familiar voice. “Um I hope you don’t mind me asking but what do you prefer for a mate? That and I guess you will have to sleep on the couch until I can afford to get you a bed but I don’t turn down anypony in need even if you’re a changeling. Let us head home since this stupid battle is over.” I lead him home to where the biggest surprise was to happen when he found out how small it really was.

Chapter two
“You call this an apartment?!!!” the changeling shrieked confused and horrified. “It’s smaller than my old den at the changeling nests!!!” I glared and just stood there glaring at the changeling until I finally responded. “Look may I remind you that you have no home and I decided to do this out of the kindness I have left which isn’t very much. So what if the living room, the bedroom, the kitchen, and the dining room are in the same area!! Just be lucky there are closets and a bathroom!!” the changeling looked down knowing he was out of line finally speaking. Um the couch is a little small…. Um are you sure there is no room on the bed?” I blushed as he spoke. “There is but um I don’t sleep with anyone because well I’m always lonely. That and well I can’t trust you just yet ok?” the changeling huffed an audible sigh. “Ok couch it is Mr. I’m lonely and I don’t sleep with others cause I’m a scaredy cat. And you call yourself a guard!” I just decided to go to the closet and get some blankets before he had thoughts of ending a certain changeling’s life.
“There you settled in till morning?” I handed him the blankets and shut off the light climbing into bed. Finally drifting off to sleep I dreamed about the time I had left the orphanage for the royal guard. Days I spent training and learning the statuesque pose and emotionless face for the guard and training the ways of combat all to be used against the enemy I was sworn to fight. Then I started dreaming about a changeling…. He was cold and yet warm in my dream like he was actually there. “Wait what?!!!!” I awoke to a changeling snuggling up next to me and I couldn’t place it but it felt good to have him there. “Finally you’re awake!!” I screamed as the changeling was face to face with me saying these words. “w-what in the buck are you doing?!!!” I choked out missing a long overdue heart attack. “well I figured I would get you some breakfast so I tried to make pancakes!!” I looked over to the kitchen after hearing these words come from his mouth. Globs of batter painted the ceiling while smoke was rising from a pan that had a pancake still in it and a smoke alarm going of which he had somehow figured out how to turn it off. “What in the hell were you doing!! My kitchen is a mess and the landlord…. Oh hell the landlord!!!! He was supposed to be here this morning to inspect the apartment!!” Stronghold just smiled finally speaking. “He isn’t tan with a paper that says bill on his flank for a cutie mark is he?” I looked at him eith horror in my eyes calmly yet nervously asking him. “Where is he?” He smiled and walked to the closet I never use and at that moment he opened it revealing a cocoon with him nice and wrapped.
I sat there staring at the cocoon hoping he wasn’t there I slapped myself and looked again sure enough it was him. Caught between laughter and horror I chose both. “Hahaha-ha-ha oh Celestia I’m dead…. Please don’t be mad at me….” What surprised me the most was that he actually started crying. I had never seen a changeling cry. “It’s ok look we will just do the second suggestion ok?” I said wiping away his tears at the same time cursing myself for wanting to do it.
Finally after fixing the situation and using a scraper to get the somewhat plastered batter off the wall and ceiling I was still hungry and then the landlord knocked I told stronghold to hide hoping he could do something. Then he did the unthinkable he shifted into me. He turned himself into me again while I looked at him like he was insane. “Hello lancer and…. Who is this and why does he look exactly like you?” the landlord said while he walked through the door. “I thought you were an orphan?” I sputtered and coughed while Stronghold stated clear as day “ we are long lost twins ma could only keep one of us and so she had no choice but to put him up for adoption and well after years ma finally past and I decided to find my brother she always told me about. Not to mention he was very difficult to find! But not quite difficult cause we met yesterday at my favorite café here in Canterlot!! Isn’t he just so nice?” the landlord just blinked and walked out the door saying “I have done this inspection before….. maybe I need to stay away from the Spiked apple cider for a while.”
I could do nothing but laugh as he walked away. “You messed with his mind didn’t you?!” Stronghold just smiled and giggled. “A changelings got to eat too you know!” I busted out laughing hoping I didn’t make a mistake letting him stay here. I was hungry and looking at the burnt pancakes I looked and smiled at the changeling. “Do you eat anything besides love?”

Chapter Three
We walked towards a donut café just two blocks from my apartment.
