It was a peaceful morning in the Canterlot castle. I had just brought the sun up and I was heading down to have breakfast with Luna. As I carefully drifted down the spiral staircase of our watch tower I could smell the chef’s special omelettes cooking. The crisp smell of them was making me giddy with delight. I walked down the familiar hallways to the kitchen. This was one of my favourite parts of the day. Just admiring the art work as I glided down the hallway gracefully. I came to a certain painting and stopped. It was my family. Mother and Father were there, along with Luna and I. But there was another figure in the painting. One that only Luna and I would know. Princess Whirlwind was an alicorn of average height. Her coat, pure white like mine and her mane a sparkling cyan and violet. A single tear ran down my cheek as I touched the painting.
"Why did he have to banish her?" I thought allowed. "What did she do?!" I asked to no pony but myself. She was our sister. The memory was painful and beautiful at the same time. She was a kind and gentle pony, but as fierce as a dragon when it came to protecting us. Even if she was the youngest, she was the strongest of us all. I smiled at the thought.
I wiped the tears from my face after a long stare at the painting and turned around to go back down the hallway. I stopped. A familiar figure stood behind me. A figure that was the cause of all of my pain.
"Good morning Discord" I said looking at him with utter disgust. Fancy walking up behind some pony obviously wallowing in pain that THEY had created!
"Celestia..." He said and then closed his mouth thought about what he was going to say. There was a long pause. "You know I can't bring her back" he eventually said looking at his feet.
"YOU COULD AT LEAST TRY!" I yelled. Normally I don't raise my voice and so a handful of royal guards came rushing around the corner.
"Celestia!" One of the guards yelled. They crowded around Discord and glared at him.
"Get away from the princess!" another one yelled.
"See what you've done Celestia?" said Discord.
"Guards, step away!" I commanded.
"Yes your highness" they replied bowing at me. I sighed and looked up at Discord fiercely.
"Celestia, I have tried and tried but you know the curse! I banished her for 2000 years and until that time is up, I can do nothing to save her!" His tail turned into a little white surrender flag and he waved it in my face.
"Discord, can you give it one last go?" I said. I felt like I was about to cry.
"Fine Celestia, just for you." He sighed. Discord got up and sat on a velvet chair. He placed his hands on his heart and mumbled something. A wave of sparkles flew out of his hands and surrounded the castle. I started to sweat. I heard Luna call out to me.
"TIA! Your breakfast is getting cold!" she yelled
"Tia?!" I heard her cry out in confusion. I saw her slowly poke her head around the corner of the door.
“Are you ok Tia?” she asked. I quickly glanced at the painting, then at Discord, and finally back at Luna. The shock from the blast had left me speechless for a moment.
“I’m fine sister, Come and let us have our well-earned breakfast” I said calmly. Discord shrugged and turned down the hallway opposite us.
I followed Luna down the hallway and into the dining room. There was an omelette sitting on a golden plate engraved with my cutie mark for me and a silver plate decorated with Luna’s cutie mark for her. I was starving but I couldn't eat a crumb. I looked down at my omelette. I am no cook myself, but I could not help but admire the wonderful job the cook had done. It was perfectly cooked. The egg wasn’t runny or completely hard and disgusting. I had asked for it to be cooked with fresh daisies, celery, cheese, red and green bell peppers and some onions. I used a simple levitation spell to lift up a fork and poke at my omelette. Luna was eating her one as fast as she could, but obviously trying to do it with enough grace that it didn’t look messy. My mind drifted off to a memory of Whirlwind eating an apple fritter. Pain from the memory flooded over me but I just let it flow. This was a memory from long ago, when we were all fillies. It was her favourite dish, apple fritter, and our favourite source of entertainment. She would try to finish it before our parents joined us. It could end two ways. Either she would finish it before they got there and ask for another fritter pretending she never got one, OR she wouldn’t finish it in time and she would get a smack from mother because she wasn’t eating her treat like a real princess. It was funny because when mother smacked her, she almost always had a mouthful of fritter in her mouth and she would spit it out and it would go all over mother. Luna and I thought it was the funniest thing in the world. One day, mother smacked her and moved out the way. Obviously she had learned. But she had forgotten that father was standing right behind her. You can imagine what came next. The dining room went up in a fit of yelling. Luna and I were on the floor laughing.
I sighed.
“Tia…” Luna whispered
“Yes Luna?” I asked slowly looking up from my plate.
“Are you ok?” She said. I looked down at her worried eyes. I couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Luna, I know this might sadden you but…” My voice trailed off. “I have been thinking about Whirlwind all morning” I chocked. She frowned. Everything was silent.
“But why Tia?” she finally asked. Should I tell her? Could I tell her?
“I have been trying and trying to get her back” I said. “Discord has been trying to use a counter spell to the curse he placed upon her 2000 years ago” I sighed. Luna looked shocked.
“I’M HER SISTER TOO!” she yelled. “IM YOUR SISTER!” she screamed again. I wasn’t expecting her to be this upset.
“I’m..I’m sorry Luna!” I stuttered shocked. Luna looked down at her plate. There was a long silence. I opened my mouth to speak but someone burst through the doors. Discord fell into the room huffing and puffing. Luna and I immediately stood.
“Discord! What is it?!” Luna asked.
“Celestia, I think I’ve done it!” he puffed.
“How?” I asked. “Where is she?” I yelled running over to him. He raised his paw and opened his mouth to speak and then stopped. The ground Trembled and shook. I ran into the hallway just as a crack broke through the wall. It was small, but it clearly spelt out something.
I’m back.
