Being a Derpy

The wind flew through his yellow poofy hair as he flew across the sky. He had never felt this free in his entire life, in fact nothing could make him happier at this moment. Almost nothing that is.

“Oh what’s up DP,” he turned to see Dashter flying up next to him. Now he couldn’t be happier.

“Oh ya know just flying around.” He said acting cool.

“Oh my Celestria, no way.” she replied in a sarcastic tone. “Hey you want to race?” she asked bumping into him.

He pondered for a moment before answering. “Hmm it depends of if you want to lose I guess.”

“HA, it’s on. First one to that pink cloud over there,” she pointed. DP was a little confused by a pink cloud, but he thought nothing of it and agreed on the race. Both young ponies lined up so that they were at an equal spot, and then Dashter started counting down. “Three…two…one…GO!” with that they were off flying through the sky at incredible speeds at first Dashter was winning, but DP was able to catch up. He was determined to win to show her he’s good enough for her. As he caught up next to her he saw her looking back at him. He just smiled and started to fly past her, but then she used his emotions against him. She leaned over and kissed his cheek. DP was not ready for such an attack and got distracted enough to fall behind. As he was rubbing his cheek and smiling he saw her fly into the pink cloud. He slowly flew to the cloud to congratulate her for wining, and accusing her of foul play. As he got closer to the pink cloud he noticed the screen got darker, and the cloud started to morph. It kept on morphing and morphing soon a head was forming and a face.

“No, not you anyone but you!” he screamed and began flying away from it. The faster he flew from it the faster it gained, and it even began talking.

“It’s time to get up Derpy Pie, it’s time for school.” the cloud laughed.

“No, leave me alone!” he yelled back. And continued to fly but sure enough the cloud caught up to him and opened its mouth swallowing him whole. He instantly awoke from his bed and saw a pink figure standing over him.

“Sheesh finally you’re up you noodle. I’ve been trying to wake you for the past five minutes.” DP looked at his wing to see if the crash was maybe a dream within a dream, but sadly it was not. The bandaged still covered it in the same way he was hiding his sadness from his overly energetic mom. “I was finally able to wake you by some miracle, or maybe it was magic? Oh no no no it was miragic, hehe yea miragic.” Pinkie rubbed her hooves together grinning. MWAHAHAHAHA. Uh…. What? Oh nothing…. It’s nothing he he continue please…he he.
Pinkie started talking to herself “hmm I woke you up to tell you something that was important for you to…do..buuuut what was it.” She sat down rubbing her chin thinking.

DP sighed, he knew that he started school, and knew that’s what she was trying to say. He just left her where she was and went to grab some food before he had to go to school. He looked through the cabinets opening and closing one after the other trying to find some food. Finally he got to the last one and opened it, but right as he opened it pinkie came flying out.

“I remember what I needed to tell you.” She said falling to the floor due to standing in midair while she talked. “You have school woooo aren’t you excited?” she asked poking him in the face. Any normal pony would still be trying to piece together how a pony could get from upstairs to inside a cabinet in a matter of seconds, but being it was Pinkie no questions were asked.

“Yes I’m r-ready, but c-can I walk there a-alone mom.” She just smiled at him and handed him some hay bars. Once again no questions were asked.

“Of course silly, well I know your dad wanted to go, but he had to go on his mail run early, looks like you can go alone.” She smiled and handed him his saddle bag. “Have fun at school and remember to SMILE!” she sang grabbing him in her hooves and kissing his forehead. “Now get on out of here and get your learning on.” She pushed him out the door. “I’ll see ya when you get home.” She waved to him from the door

“Oh m-mom I’m going to v-visit twilight after s-school is that okay?” he turned and asked.

“Oh of course. Make sure to tell her hello from me.”

“I will,” he smiled and started to walk away. “Bye mom.”

“Bye Derpy Pie, love you!” She yelled out.

Ponies that had been close by all turned and looked at DP, and just smiled thinking how cute that was. All DP could do is blush and murmur out an “l-love you too m-mom.” Pinkie just smiled and dashed back inside to get ready for business. DP was walking to school when he spotted Fluttershy talking to somepony. He wanted to say hello, so he waited for her to be done talking. After she was done talking she turned and saw DP sitting there smiling at her. He had always had a little crush on her.

“Oh hello DP how are you feeling today?” she asked in her usual quiet voice.

“Oh I a-am good thanks f-for asking.” He replied smiling.

“Oh good I’m glad to hear it.” She smiled back.

“Oh Fluttershy s-since you’re the m-mayor could you c-cancel school?” he asked with sad eyes knowing that would get to her.

“oh dear um… I… would love to really I would…but you see…” she started to back up not wanting to make him sad by telling him she couldn’t. “I uh can’t really…um do that… Oh dear what’s that over there?” she pointed behind him. As soon as he turned his head he heard a woosh sound and turned back to see that Fluttershy flew off.

“Well that went well.” He thought to himself. Being disappointed by not getting his wish he continued to school with his head lowered. He finally made it to the school, and just sat outside of it staring. He watched the little earth ponies walking into the school, and figured he should probably go in. As he walked in he saw everypony talking and laughing, but instantly all the chatter stopped and they looked at him. About 14 pairs of eyes all were locked on him. He nervously stood there not knowing what to do. Luckily the teacher walked in.

“Oh hello there,” She smiled at him. “You must be Derpy Pie I take it. Well welcome to the class my name is Ms. Cheerilee, Oh I guess I should introduce you huh?” she laughed “Class this is Derpy Pie and I want you all to make him feel right at home. He was in a bad accident while flying and will be staying with us for a while. Ok Derpy go ahead and sit wherever you like.”

“Ok,” he replied “um also c-could you call m-me DP?” he asked quietly.

“Of course.” She smiled. DP made his way to a desk that was in the back of the row. In fact nopony was in the back row besides two orange ponies that looked the same besides their cutie marks. One had a Lasso as theirs and the other had an apple tree. He figured who they were related to. He sat down in a desk that was in front of them, that was when he felt a tap on his shoulder, so he turned to see the one with the apple tree cutie mark looking at him with a smile.

“Why howdy there the names Applecake Daughter of Applejack and Jam nice to make yalls acquaintance,” she said extending her hoof. “And this here is my twin brother Applejam or AJ for short.” Her brother was just staring at him with a confused face. DP shook her hoof and tried to ignore the stare of Applejam until he spoke up.

“Now why in tarnation is a pegasus in an earth pony class, and why yall got that bandage, and why yall stutter when you were talking to the teacher?” he was immediately smacked in the head by his sister. “Ow! What in Celestria was that for?” he asked rubbing his head.

“Yall can’t be invading somepony’s personals life like that with all them questions you fool. I apologize for my brothers’ rudeness. He really is a nice pony he just isn’t the brightest chicken in the coop if ya know what I mean.” She laughed

“Now hold it one second I am like ten times smarter then you and I’m a better apple bucker.” He shot back.

“Have you been drinking bad cider again? I’m the one with the apple bucking cutie mark you dolt.” She replied with a hoof on her face.

He looked down at his cutie mark. “Oh yea I knew that I was just testing yall that’s it.” He smiled. DP realized why there were so many open seats by them. They could talk more than his mom, and his mom was Pinkie Pie. The two twins carried on their debate until Cheerilee shut them up and began her lesson.
As he heard the bell ring signaling school was over he zoomed right out of the class. He didn’t want to get trapped in another conversation with the twins.

“Hey where yall heading?” Applecake asked. He turned to see the twins running up to him and put on a fake smile.

“Oh I j-just am going to s-see a friend.” He replied. He really didn’t want to deal with this. He wanted to hurry and get to Twilight so she could fix him up.

“Oh I reckon that’s mighty fine. I was just wondering if yall wanted to come hangout and work on our homework, but since yall got plans we can just reschedule, it’s no hole in our barn.” She smiled. “Come on AJ we gotta go help harvest apples for cider season.”

“Ah I don’t wanna you can’t make me!” he yelled. But right as he said those words his sister descended upon him and gave him a swift head butt that sent him to the ground. “Agh really come on!” was all he could say trying to get back to his legs. “You are lucky I wasn’t ready or that be different.” She lightly tapped him and due to the fact he was still trying to get his bearings he fell once again. “Shoot, stop that!”He finally got to his feet and dusted himself off before walking away. All his sister did was smile

“Ha, he’ll be just fine don’t yall worry bout him. Have fun with your friend, I’ll see yall tomorrow.” With that she bowed her head and ran off after her brother. Holy Chimychanga! they talk aloooot I mean how could somepony stand to sit there and hear one poney talk for that long I mean I would go crazy! If some pony tried talking like that to me. Pinkie. Like I would be all like hey you shhhhh I’m trying to party! Pinkiee. Oh man we should throw a party for talking about a party! PINKIE!!! What? Nothing let’s just go back to the story shall we? Hmmm Oki Doki Loki!

For some reason that DP couldn’t explain the twins were actually warming up to him. It could be due to the face they talk so much like his mom. Whatever it was he just ignored it and went on to Twilights school. He could see the top of the school from outside the earth pony school. It sat on the horizon letting the sun set behind it making it appear like it was giving out its own magical glow. The School was a dark purple and was trimmed in white. He had never been to it up close but he knew all about it from his mom. It apparently was a gift for Twilight after all she did as an apprentice for Celestria and the countless times she help saved Equestria. The fact that she was one of the most powerful ponies ever didn’t hurt much either. As he got closer he could see some unicorns outside of the building doing spells and reading books. Trees lined the pathway up to the main door. The building was much bigger than he expected. But that’s only natural when you have 250-500 students a year. To get into her school you had to have passed some incredibly hard test. He didn’t really know what the test was being he was a pegasus. As he walked to the door the groups of unicorns that scattered the courtyard all stared at him. He felt like this was a common theme for the day. As he got to the big iron doors he got a little confused because they didn’t have any handles or anyway to open them for that matter.

He stood there thinking what to do when all of the sudden there was a sudden flash of light and Twilight was next to him.

“Well hello there DP, how are you?” she asked smiling. She had dark circles under her eyes showing that she was exhausted.

“I-I’m good thanks.” He smiled back. “Um how do people open this door? I don’t see any way to do it.”

“Oh ha it’s a magic door, you see all you have to do is perform an easy spell and It will open see?” Her horn began to glow and the door opened for them. “Now follow me”

“Oh m-my mom told me t-to tell you h-hi.” He stuttered out.

“Oh how nice of her. Make sure you give her my best wishes.” She led him down a big hall way that had giant portraits of the two princesses of Equestria; Luna and Celestria. You see unicorns running every which way with saddle bags on.

“We can talk in my chambers”

“Oki d-doki loki.” He didn’t realized what he had just said until twilight looked at him with a huge smile and laughed.

“Well that was just adorable. I can’t wait to tell you mom that.” She beamed. DP just blushed and kept following her. Twilight led him up some stairs and down a long hallway into a giant room filled with books. It was very messy with books lying all over the place. Twilight got a sad look on her face. “I just need to find a certain book on healing spells. You know ever since spike left I have not been able to organize the books at all.” She sighed. “I miss that lil guy well I guess I should say big guy considering he is a giant dragon.” She laughed. “Go ahead and make yourself at home. I just need to find this book… Oh! Are you hungry at all?” she asked.

“Well a-actually I am a little.” He replied taking off his saddle bag slowly not wanting to hit his wing. He looked to see twilights horn glow again and her appearing to talk to herself.

“Yes Gem could you bring in some straw salads for me and a guest to my studies please?” DP was rather confused but just ignored it. Twilight continued to send books flying while looking for the one she desired. “It’s funny I can defeat an ursa major with a giant fireball, but I don’t have a spell to find a book I need.” She chuckled. Just then the door opened and a tray levitated into the room followed by a white unicorn. DP looked at the unicorn and was awestruck at what he saw. She had a flowing purple mane and deep purple eyes that seemed to make him feel warm inside. “Ah the food here is terrific.” She stopped her quest for the book. “Oh my where are my manors DP this is my apprentice Gem. She’s Rarities’ Daughter.” DP realized where her beauty came from.

“Hello it’s a pleasure to meet you…DP is it?” she asked in a soft yet kind voice.

“Yes that’s me DP ha ha.” He tried to puff his chest to make himself look bigger but accidently slipped on a book and fell face first. But before he hit the ground he was caught by some magical spell. He looked to see Gem had caught him, and was trying to hold in her laugh, but couldn’t contain it any longer. She busted out laughing and accidently dropped him.

“Oh dear I’m ever so sorry!” she exclaimed. “Are you ok?” She ran up to him helping him up

“Yup I’m good thank you.” He smiled.

“Uh is there anything else I can do for you Miss. Sparkle?”

“Nope that is all Gem thank you. Now return to your studies somepony has a test tomorrow.” She grinned. With that Gem expression went into shock and she ran out the door. “Aha I found it DP! Now let’s see what we can do…”
