Rarity very much didn't want to enter the house.
The contractors sat on her right, discussing what to do with the shelter. The white mare didn't know how long she had been sitting on the itchy turf, gaping at the cloud home above. The rainbow fall dripped thickly from above, splashing on the unicorn's snowy coat, then trickling fluidly down her back. Fluttershy, with her sophisticated friend, gently brushed off the sticky syrup then proceeded to wipe it on the grass.
Rarity hardly noticed.
She had never even been inside this house before, not that she had any need to. The smell of dew and the intoxicating scent of the rainbow liquid clung to Rarity's senses.
It made her sick.
The stallions walked over, flashing fake smiles. The earth pony of the two spoke,
"Miss, if you would like to take a peek inside, now would be the time to do so."
"Please sir," she begged, "don't you have any more terms to converse about? Surely there are more matters at hoof." She sent the two a pleading look with her eyes.
The burly, rugged pegasus shook his head, "I'm afraid not ma'am, after today, the property is to be turned over to the Ponyville government. Mayor Mare will decide what to do with it from there. So if you wanna look around, it's now or never."
Rarity sighed, rising to her hooves. "I suppose I should go take a look. Fluttershy, would you mind?" She indicated the canary pony's wings.
"No, of course not," She lifted the unicorn up by her mid-section and lightly floated her up to the entrance. Fluttershy took extra caution when placing her friend on the front step.
"Are you sure you're okay going in alone?" She cast a doubtful glance, "I don't want you to....have a breakdown or anything."
In attempt to keep the mood light, Rarity gave a small laugh, "Darling, I'm a grown mare, I know how to handle myself."
"Ok," Fluttershy was still at unease, "just give me a call when you're done." The pegasus began to drift back down to the ground.
"Fluttershy, wait." The caretaker stopped and looked back curiously.
Rarity took a deep breath, "I- I wanted to thank you for being there for me the past few weeks, especially after how foalishly I've been acting. You've are most patient pony I've ever laid eyes on, and I do believe I would have..." the designer paused in remembrance, "gone with her if it hadn't been for you."
Her friend blushed and gave a very cute smile, "what are friends for?"
"This was more than just a regular friendship Fluttershy," Rarity persisted, "you simply must realize that."
Fluttershy lifted a hoof to the back of her head and itched it embarrassingly. "I guess it could be..." she said softly, "but I really don't know."
Rarity couldn't help but suppress a smile, Fluttershy was never good when it came to these situations. "I'll see you in a bit then darling."
The unicorn opened the door to the house cautiously, as if she was intruding. A cold draft chilled her coat, and the sour smell of stale air reached her nose.
Rarity trod warily into the mud hall, taking care with every step. Her perfectly hooficured hooves kicked up dust as she examined the entryway. A coat rack was roughly nail to the ice blue wall. A leather jack hung on the hook nearest to Rarity.
The unicorn removed the jacket and was immediately caught off guard by the scent of the garment. It smelled of fresh dewdrops on a foggy morning, and if the sun had a scent to it, the glowing orb would've smelled exactly like the piece of clothing.
The fragrance's scent was precisely like her.
Rarity burrowed her nose into the coat, inhaling deeply, trying to hold on to the intoxicating perfume. Eventually the jacket lost its aroma, and the designer resented to shrugging it on.
She was surprised, it fit her almost perfectly. The only problem was that the sleeves were a tad too long. Pondering the idea, Rarity realized it made some sense that her pegasus friend had long legs.
She proceeded into the kitchen. Empty glasses rested near the sink along with a plate, with an uneaten pizza crust and flecked with red sauce. The unicorn then took care to wash the dishes thoroughly, after finding a dish towel strewn haphazardly on the counter. She placed the now gleaming objects back into their rightful cabinets.
The white mare opened the pantry, stock piled with every kind of junk food imaginable. Rarity giggled softly.
"You were never one for eating healthy, were you Dash?"
The living room presented itself quite plainly. A love-seat and a coffee table sat on the left side, along with a unusually neat stack of coasters. Across from this display Rarity noticed a small television, its remote on the floor. She picked the device up and slid it next to the coasters.
The unicorn took her time browsing the second floor, visiting the bathroom, the guest bedroom, and the laundry room. She saved the cyan mares bedroom for last.
Wonderbolts posters and relics covered every inch of the room. A Junior Speedsters Participant medal was draped over the back of a chair, next to a desk with paper work on it. A dust covered trophy for the Varsity Squad in Dashes flight school sat next to the documents. Issues of The Wonderbolts Weekly lay on the floor. On the dresser was some sort of shrine, complete with framed pictures of Spitfire and Soarin'. Figurines surrounded the focus of the display, Rainbow Dashes crown from The Best Young Fliers Competition.
Rarity's heart stopped.
Panic entered Rarity's mind as she plummeted to the ground, legs flailing wildly. She screamed, a high pitched shriek that was heard from all corners of the arena. The Wonderbolts tried to gain control of her, but she knocked them out to no avail.
"Hold on Rarity!! I'm coming!" She heard a voice call from above, as Rainbow Dash rocketed down, every second inching closer. The sound barrier began to bend at her will, tears welling from her eyes. She grit her teeth and flew even faster, harder. The pegasus shot forward, latching onto Rarity, as the multi-colored explosion blasted into the sky.
"A Sonic Rainboom! She did it! She did it! Whoo!" Fluttershys cry sounded applause from the spectators as her friend flew over the sky, fanning the rainbow over the audience.
"I did it, I did it!!' Rainbow beamed at Rarity, accomplishment on her face.
"You sure did," She replied, thanks in her eyes. "Oh thank you Rainbow Dash, you saved my life!!"
She would remember that moment forever and always.
The unicorn had done nothing to deserve being saved, and yet she still lived.
The second time was painfully the same, except it came with dreadful costs. How could she have been so foalish? It should have been her to slip under the murky waters, to stay suspended at Shard's Edge.
Rainbow Dash had saved Rarity's life not once, but twice, and she had done nothing to be worthy of it.
The designer collapsed onto her saviors bed, breathing in the calming fragrance that lingered on the bed sheets.
And she cried.
