So we all know Equestria is... well... filled with ponies. But that isn't to say there aren't other critters crawling around. But for the most part it's dragons or griffons or hydras and such. Like straight from any old fantasy novel.

But what if there was a race of creatures, older than the ponies and yet more secluded and very rare. Living in the harshest of cold mountains and... very dark caves. What are they? And...
