Shade, one of the daughters of Queen Chrysalis and the changelings' best weapon of deception, is given the task to sneak into their society, gain their trust and call in the changeling army. She seems content at first, in fact, focussed on completing this task, for both her race and personal reasons. However, through new friends and an unexpected young mare, Shade will learn what it truly means to love and care for somepony so deeply, and even bring a little light into somepony else's world.
