Colgate looked up at the shining sun and stood still for a moment, basking in its warmth. Barely a week ago, everything around her had been covered in a layer of snow and ice, the end of winter just begging to be wrapped up by the town. The wrap up this year had occurred with unusual efficiency; The Mayor had delegated almost all responsibility regarding team placements and scheduled activity to Twilight Sparkle, the Princess’s student and town emissary. She had proven her ability to organise the town several years back when she had saved them from being late again. Colgate kinda knew Twilight from the time when they had both studied at the school for gifted unicorns, though they had moved in entirely different circles.
Now, everything was drenched in spring sun and warmth. Birds chirped in the trees and flowers were out in bloom. Small critters rushed through the town; bunnies and the like. Everything had the smell of spring to it and Colgate loved it. It was about this time that ponies tended to make new vows to swear off of sweets and to take better care of themselves. As such, the volume of traffic that tended to come through her doors lessened slightly and gave her a much needed break. In the upcoming week, she had managed to schedule two full afternoons to herself and she planned to spend that time pampering herself.

Her garden either died off entirely, or produced flowers and vegetables that were so warped or rotten that she wasn’t sure they were even good to eat anymore. No, she would just have to leave the growing side of life to her earth pony counterparts.
Her hooves struck cobblestones as she moved quickly throughout some of the back streets of Ponyville. Around her, the rustic design style of the town greeted her. Colgate liked Ponyville’s aesthetics; they weren’t pretentious like Canterlot, where everything was marble and gold, a tribute to the sheer wealth of its inhabitants, but also it wasn’t as openly utilitarian as other places like Dodge Junction or Appaloosa were. Those frontier towns were still getting to their feet, so anything that wasn’t directly related to survival was overlooked. They would be wonderful towns in a couple of years, but were still a bit lacking now.
“HEY, WATCH IT!” a deep voice called from behind her, accompanied by a high pitched buzzing noise and Colgate quickly pressed herself hard against the closest wall she could find. Colgate just hoped that whatever they had planned, the Cutie Mark Crusaders stayed away from her clinic; she had finally gotten everything the way she liked it again after her chance encounter with Princess Luna.
Scootaloo zipped past Colgate in a blur. The pegasus was fast on her wings, even if she hadn’t mastered flight just yet. She was getting close though, now able to hover for short periods. Behind them rushed an enraged Mr. Breezy. “AND STAY OUTTA MY SHOP” he yelled at the retreating CMC’s. When it was clear that he would never catch them, he stopped and turned to see Colgate standing by the wall. “Ah, sorry there, miss. I didn’t see you there.”
Colgate waved off his apology with a hoof, “It’s alright, Mr. Breezy. How bad was it this time?”
Mr. Breezy shucked his cap from his head and began to wring it out in his hooves. “Ah, it isn’t too bad, but I had just cleaned up in my shop. Now I gotta do it all over again. That’s the last time I try to do them any favours.”
Colgate nodded sagely at his comment. It was a fairly regular sentiment around Ponyville. Nopony believed that the CMC’s could be as destructive as their innocent appearance and ideals suggested until they actually agreed to let them try in their house or shop. “Well, good luck with that,” she said amiably. “Don’t forget you have a check up next month.”
“I won’t, lass. Don’t you worry about that,” he replied before turning and heading back to his store. Colgate watched him go before deciding to head on towards the market again. She still had shopping to get done.
After a brief walk through some of Ponyville seedier alleys, Colgate came out into the large market square. There were dozens of stalls and carts set up and ponies of every colour milled around, comparing wares and goods. In one corner stood the Apple family’s stall, filled to bursting with various apple products as well as a few other vegetables that the family grew. Colgate made a mental note to check back there later on as her larder was beginning to run low and carrot soup sounded delicious for dinner. Aside from the Apples, there were a few dry goods vendors and some of the other farming families had also set up tents. Oranges imported from other cities and bales of hay sat around, begging for ponies to buy them.
It all looked wonderful to Colgate, but she had a specific goal to achieve here. Ordering some food could wait for a little while; right now she wanted to check out the flower stalls for something that would look nice in her apartment. She ambled slowly throughout the market place, dodging ponies that were not quite looking where they were going and breathing in the heady smells of all the fruits and vegetables that surrounded her. Carrot soup was sounding better and better. Colgate promised herself that she would pay a visit to Carrot Top’s stall before the day was out. The farmer had promised her a good deal after her last checkup had come back clean.
Ponyville’s flower production was controlled by a trio of ponies, the so called ‘flower sisters,’ Daisy, Lily, and Roseluck. Nopony quite knew where the name had come from, as none of them were actually related to each other. But they all liked the name, and over time it had become the normal thing to call the trio. Looking around the market, Colgate caught sight of Roseluck setting up in her appointed space. Buckets of flowers surrounded her, some already in full bloom, while others were still in bud. Rose caught her coming, and she smiled at the approaching unicorn. “Hey there, Colgate,” she called out brightly, “You looking for anything special, or just out enjoying the nice day?”

A light knock at the outer door caught her attention and she instantly jumped down the stairs to rush over and open her front door. Colgate shrugged and sipped her own glass. It was a fairly tart wine, and not particularly to her taste, but it was the thought that counted more than the actual wine itself. “Are you ready to begin?” she asked as she put her glass back down.
Roseluck nodded once and leaned back, beginning to spread her legs apart. Colgate quickly raised up a hoof, stopping her halfway through her motion. “No, don’t.
