What If
The Demons Inside
Previous ChapterWhat If
What if is a question as old as time itself. A question, that if answered, could rewrite history. That is why I am here, to answer those questions, to rewrite history, to put your minds at ease.
“Goodbye, Scootaloo.” Applebloom said raising the hatchet above her head. Scootaloo closed her eyes, not wanting to see the instrument of Breeze’s death become her own. Scootaloo brought the axe down on Scootaloo’s head, splitting her skull and ending her life.
Scootaloo jolted awake and was met with blinding lights. She tried to move but her body was wrapped up in a rough cloth and straps crisscrossed her chest, keeping her pinned to what she guessed was some kind of examination table. Scootaloo looked around the room, her fear rising and spotted a large window. On the other side of the glass were Applebloom and Sweetie Belle talking to a pony that looked kind of like Breeze. Sadness was clearly evident in their body language.
“What’s going on here? Where am I?” Scootaloo shouted. The ponies on the other side of the glass stopped their conversation to look at her. The pony definitely was Breeze but he was dressed up in some strange doctor get up. Breeze rushed over to the door to Scootaloo’s room and walked in.
“Finally Scootaloo, you’re awake.” He said. “I was starting to worry that we wouldn’t be able to continue our tests.”
“Tests? What tests?” She said squirming around trying to get free.
“Oh, that’s right. They told me you’d have some amnesia after the last experiment. Allow me to explain. I’m Doctor Breeze and this is the Canterlot Medical Research Facility. Here, we perform experiments on willing test subject. You being one of the willing subjects.” Breeze said.
“Well I’m not willing anymore. I want to go home.” She said squirming around in her restraints. Breeze let out a soft chuckle.
“It’s not that easy. Once you sign on with us here at the research facility, you can’t leave. If we test some kind of bacteria or virus on you, we don’t want you leaving here and spreading it to other ponies.” Breeze said walking over to a panel on the far side of the room. He opened up the small metal box and pressed a button. A metal shield descended over the glass window, blocking her view of her friends who had horrified looks on their faces. He then walked back over to her and pressed a button on the ground and a tray with several needles on it rose up out of the ground.
“What was the last test you performed on me? The one that gave me amnesia?” She asked. Breeze picked up one of the needles that held a green liquid and tapped the end.
“We took a small cutting of the frontal portion of your brain to see if we could possib-. Bah, you wouldn’t understand.” He said holding the needle over Scootaloo’s chest. “This will only sting a bit.” He said. He pushed the needle delicately, but swiftly, into her chest and released the medicine. ‘It did only sting a bit.’ She thought to herself as the medicine spread through her body, warming her.
“This actually feels pretty good.” Scootaloo said. Breeze looked back at her with a twisted smile.
“Not for long.” He said. He picked up a small remote and flipped a switch and Scootaloo’s body started to convulse. Scootaloo felt like her insides were on fire, being ripped apart and burned.
“What...the...buck!” She yelled through gasps of air. The pain was increasing as Breeze twisted a knob on the remote. Her vision started to dim as she slipped closer and closer to unconsciousness. Suddenly the pains stopped and Scootaloo relaxed her body. She opened her mouth to speak but no words came. She was too weak for those.
“Nanogens.” Breeze said. “New torture system invented by Celestia herself. We inject them in a mixture of healing salve and IV fluid to put the victim at rest and then zap em’.” He said. Scootaloo started to closer her eyes but jerked awake when she felt a needle jab into her chest. She suddenly felt like she could run a mile. “Can’t have you passing out on me.” Breeze said casting the adrenaline shot behind him.
“Why are you doing this to me? I thought we were friends.” She said pleading. Her dream was coming back to her and she wished that it was reality, except for Applebloom being evil. She didn’t want that.
“Oh Scootaloo, we are friends. It’s just I don’t get to pick the experiments. I try to be as nice as I can but this line of work isn’t very kind.” He said. He pressed a button on the ground and the tray of nanogens receded into the ground and another came up in it’s place. “Ahh, you see. This one should be easy.” He said. He loosened one of the straps that held her in place with his magic so she could sit up but couldn’t go anywhere.
Breeze picked up another needle and trotted around behind her. “This test is for cramps, or getting rid of them. This shot will induce a cramp and it will hurt for a moment but you have to stay still. I’ll inject the relaxant as fast as I can.” Breeze said. He pierced the ball of muscles in between her wings and injected the fluid and immediately it tensed up sending waves of pain through Scootaloo’s body. She let out a whimper as Breeze came around and picked up the relaxant and injected it into the cramp. It burned at first, but after a few seconds the pain disappeared.
“Well that wasn’t so bad.” Breeze said. Scootaloo nodded and kept her eyes down. Breeze pushed a third button on the floor and the tray receded into the ground replaced by a canister. “Last test and then you’re free to go.” He said putting a mask over her face.
“What is this one.” Scootaloo asked nervously.
“Nerve gas, my dear.” He said connecting the tube. Scootaloo’s pupils shrunk to the size of pen heads. “Goodbye, my sweet.” Breeze said turning the knob on the canister releasing the nerve gas into her body. It attacked her nervous system, making her body twitch into strange and painful positions. Right before she felt herself slip away, she heard a small chuckle next to her. It sounded like Applebloom, but she couldn’t be sure.
