Daring Do gulped, staring up at the building that loomed before her. Thoughts of turning around and leaving once again crossed her mind, but her sponsors would never forgive her if she abandoned her task. Daring stomped a hoof in frustration, unable to think of a reasonable excuse to leave and skip this one task. She sighed, hanging her head in defeat, and stepped towards the entrance.
‘I may as well get this over with.’ she thought.

Before the adventurous pegasus were scores of ponies, all of them elite members of Equestrian society. All of them wore their grandest outfits; the stallions dressed in neatly pressed suits and top hats, while the mares had their grandest dresses on, each trying to outdo the others in design and price. Daring Do glanced down at her outfit, her trademark green vest and tan pith helmet her fashion of choice for almost everything. All along the walls hung priceless paintings, tapestries, and other ornate decorations that Daring had recovered over the years, and countless other artifacts lay protected in display cases littering the floor of the hall. Daring finally made her way to where the host was talking to a few other ponies, but once the host saw Daring approach, she politely excused herself to greet the guest of honor.
“Daring Do, welcome. Thank you so much for coming tonight.” Princess Celestia said. “What do you think of all of this? I cannot thank you enough for helping recover all these valuable pieces of history for the Canterlot museum.”
Daring bowed before the princess before replying. “It’s my pleasure, Princess Celestia. I think it’s great that everything will be on display here.” she said, resisting the urge to express her distaste of all the high class ponies here.
Celestia still managed to see Daring’s lack of enthusiasm for being here. “Daring, I know how much you don’t like to attend these events, but having the explorer who found all these artifacts here raised almost fifty thousand more bits than expected, and every bit is needed to keep this museum open.”
“I know, princess. Don’t worry about it, I’ve survived worse.” Daring said, slightly embarrassed that Celestia saw right through her.
“If it’s any consolation, the Wonderbolts are also here. They’re in the back signing autographs, and I know one of their new members is dying to meet you.” Celestia said with a wink.
Daring Do’s face perked up slightly. She had always enjoyed talking to Equestria’s elite pegasi, and had even been asked to join at one point. Daring had declined the tempting offer, unable to stand the thought of giving up exploring for simple aerobatics. Thanking the princess, Daring trotted off to find the group of Wonderbolts.
It was easy to spot the five pegasi amongst the hundreds of other ponies thanks to their flight suits, making them stand out in the crowd. She made her way to the group, one of the Wonderbolts spotting her and trotting up to greet her.
“Daring Do, long time no see! Glad you could make it tonight.” Soarin said, shaking her hoof.
“Soarin, good to see you too. How’d you get stuck at this?” Daring asked.

“Jeez, it’s about time you rescued me, Soarin. I don’t know a single thing about Canterlot fashion!” the Wonderbolt complained. “You owe me big time for ditching me with them.”
Soarin chuckled. “Well, I may return the favor sooner than you think. I want you to meet somepony.”
“Oh Celestia, not another pony asking about Rarity!” the mare complained.
“No, no, this pony you’ll be happy to talk to.” Soarin said, finally reaching his target. “Rainbow Dash, this is…”
