Chapter 1 - Who am I?
"Ponies never change."
But we do, ponies like me, we change, we mutate, into the object of everyone's hatred, the ponies affected by balefire radiation become mutated shells of themselves, a ticking time-bomb waiting to snap and eat everypony around her, I had been "asleep" for two-hundred years, this hadn't happened to me and I didn't ever want it to. But with this came the possibility of near-immortality. But back to the topic at hoof, my story is one of pain and loss. So sit down and relax, we're going to be here a while.
I felt my vision return to me, something had happened, the bombs, Canterlot was almost certainly destroyed after the hit it took. I could hear nothing, though that may have been because I was deafened by an explosion, I wasn't a soldier but it wasn't the first time I had been injured by a zebra assault. I finally found the strength to stand up, I got onto all four hooves, I couldn't see Canterlot, what I could see was what was left in it's wake. Was this the effect that the megaspell had, I had survived it. I rose my hoof into the air only to notice that my coat had shed, my skin showing, I was no longer the dark blue I once was, I screamed, but nothing came out, I felt funny, my wings still had feathers but they were rotten and dirty, my horn was the same as far as I could tell. I decided to try walking, I fell forward, they obviously hadn't been used in a long time, so I tried loosening them up a bit by shaking them a bit, bending them.
BANG!!
Something I thought was in the direction of Ponyville started shooting at me, oh pony feathers, I didn't have a gun, nor did I ever plan on using one, I hid behind the nearest thing to me, which luckily was a wagon.
My attackers suddenly charged towards my position shouting things like: "You and all your kind should die." and "Come out so i can shoot your ugly face."
"Wait.", I thought "He doesn't sound like a zebra so why is he saying, "your kind", we're both ponies right. I was about to find out how wrong I was. My thinking had distracted me and they were right on top of me, the front stallion had an orange coat with cuts in it and a very savage-looking mane, he came around the corner and bucked me, I fell backwards into the dirt, I didn't know why he was attacking me so brutally. Then out of nowhere his buddy's head was turned into a small puddle on the ground, the stallion attacking me tried to run away, shouting curse words i didn't even know existed, but he too was brought to the ground by the mystery sniper, I could feel blood flowing from where the savage pony had kicked, it was extremely painful. My mysterious savior started galloping towards me, good, somepony who can tell me what is going on, when he got to me, he shoved his gun into my face.
"Please don't kill me." I cried, covering my face with my hooves. It felt like forever, he must have been choosing whether or not to shoot me right here. From what I knew right now, trigger-happy was a default setting for ponies, so it wouldn't have surprised me if he...
He put away his gun and held out a hoof to help me up. "I'm mighty sorry 'bout that, I thought you was a zombie-pony, lucky you spoke t' me when you did or y'all would be dead." The mystery stallion informed me, not inspiring a great deal of confidence in me, not killing ponies should be obvious, it's the zebras we're fighting, not each other. I asked him what was going on, what had happened and why he thought I was a zombie, though I did really look like one. "Oh mah stars, y'all don't know 'bout the war." He had a concerned tone in his voice. Of course i knew about the war, it had killed me... sort of.
"I..." I struggled to speak, as if there was something stuck in my throat. "I was on my way back to Ponyville, trotting happily, when suddenly missiles start striking Canterlot, the next thing I know, I'm on the ground, that was 2 minutes ago." I explained to him, his expression becoming that of bewilderment after I had finished my story. He eventually spoke up.
"Lil' lady, that was two-hundred years ago. You've really been out all that time?" I started to hyperventilate, there not being a bag or anything to blow into, I collapsed, the stallion took me to a place called "New Appleloosa", I woke up with a pain in my head, i was resting in some sort of makeshift bed, a unicorn mare walked in, her mane was a cotton candy pink color, i fantasized about eating it, she started to speak to me.
"Captain tells me you just woke up a couple hours ago, is that true, you really slept through all of this?" She asked, I'd hardly call it a sleep, more like temporary death, I was surprised that I wasn't instantly vaporized by the mega-spell. Struggling to find words, I just made a couple of squeaking noises, she picked up on that, I had no clue what was going on, that was answer enough for her. She continued: "You might want to have a look in a mirror, she levitated over a small mirror, I looked awful, my coat had almost completely come off and my skin was sort of... rotting. What was I?
The stallion who had saved me from those crazy-ponies walked in at that moment. I looked to him, sadness in my eyes, a realization hit me, if it was 200 years in the future, that would mean that... I felt physically sick, I started crying. "All of my friends are dead, everyone I knew is dead." I said in a whispered tone, still loud enough for them to hear me. The mare beside me comforted me, she started patting my shoulder with her hoof, the two left me alone to my thoughts, I levitated the mirror up to myself again, but I didn't recognize the mare staring back at me.
