Cobblestone (Interlude)

'The night was cold, the thousands of trees and bushes hid what little moon shine was available and each breath was heavier than the next.

Our filly hero was all on her own luck and had no where to turn for comforting assistance.

She knew whatever chasing her wasn't too far behind so she had no choice but to run; to run as her life

depended on it!

And at that split moment she started to think what she was running for, a shadowy figure jumped in front of her path.

She tripped and fell down on her face; partially from the sudden shock, but mostly from the dark magic that was forced down on to her body.

She had no more energy to resist the pressure to get back on her hooves. All she could do is lay her head rested on the cold humid ground and hear all of the forest's noises she was running away from since the start.

The blurry figure slowly crept towards her, speaking some forbidden arcane black magic no doubt. She recognized a few of

the words spoken from earlier as she heard them right after they ripped her coltfriend in half.

She knew what was to come and she was noting but putty in it's grasp.

As CherylBlossom closed her eyes to wish all of this to end, she realised all the noise had calmed down. The wind had died down and the bushes laid motionless. All the noise she could feel was the hard thumping of her agitated

heart against the cold rugged dirt on the ground.

The yellow pony received a burst of energy from the peace and slowly got back on all fours to analyse the emptyness of the scene.

Was it all in her head?

There were no other hoofprints in sight but her own and the strange figure that was once in front of her was no more.

She decided to take the moment to take a loud and deep breath to calm down her heart race.

Only, the deep breath that was taken didn't come from her...

...it came from behind her!

It came... FROM THE ZOMBIE PON- "

"BOOOOOORRRING!!!"

All eyes were diverted away from Lampshade and directed to the not-so-subtle interruption of a pearl white pegasus' remark.

'Thank you, SkyShine for breaking the mood!' Lampshade said sarcastically.

The tension was broken all around the campfire as the other ponies took time to breathe, as they were all choked up from the suspense. All except the pegasus in question.

'You've already told this story a million times!' Skyshine boasted 'Even your little sister is almost sleeping through it so much it's boring!'

Sure enough, the cyan pegasus' little sister seemed to be resisting sleep by simultaneously twitching her eyes. She was definitely no match for a staring contest.

'Well, it i'sh geth'n dark an' we do haf'ta get th'up early t'a conth'inue our sth'chool hike outing!' the filly pony sputtered, only to be stared down with stabbing glares from all sides.

'Comon' now, Bookmark! We still have loads of time left' stated Lampshade' ...well, we DID have loads of time left for my story, until SOMEpony killed the mood! Why don't YOU enlighten us with a spooky story, Skyshine?" Attempting to make Skyshine look stupid for abrutptly stoping her storytelling.

'I'd thought you'd never ask!' the eager pearl pony replied

'If you ponies want to hear a REAL scary story, you guys won't be able to sleep for night's end after this- Not even Luna's power will be able to help you, since this story is based on true events that happened... in a small town called Ponyville!'

'Isn't that the town where the Elements of harmony once lived?' An orange unicorn commented from the back of the dozen young colts and fillies, now all intrigued and eager to know what happened in a town nopony in their class has visited yet.

'Yeah! And how would you know about what happened there? You were born in Trottawa like all of us here, Skyshine!'

Skyshine laughed maniacly, growing a discomfort in a couple of the ponies in her close range.  Finally, Skyshine settle down and replied with a smirking grin.

'Well, Applebloom's daughter told this story to my dad when they were in school in Canterlot and you guys know this story's truer than the truth if it's told from the sister of the holder of the Element of honesty!'

Nopony contested since it seemed logical, even if it was flawed in so many ways. Yet no one seemed brave enough to contest so Skyshine continued on with her story.

'Very well! Now, this story all started in a library where the town-bookworm and her assistant dragon once lived in harmony...

before they set out their vigorous journey to hunt each other down for their revenge

... and for their own survival!'
