"Awesome! Lightning Dancer is so cool! I want to fly as fast as her!"

Her father chuckled. "Patience, Rainbow. You will be gthe fastest Pegasus in the world. Just keep practicing and get through flight school."

     "When is my final assessment?"

     "Tomorrow."

     Rainbow Dash cringed.

"Don't you worry, Dashie. You'll do fine!"

     "Are you sure, Dad?"

"Positive. Now go get some sleep. You're gonna need it."

     "Good night, Dad."

     "Good night, Rainbow Dash."

It was the next day at the flight school final assessment. Rainbow Dash settled her nerves by taking deep breaths and pretending that she was Lightning Dancer. The story last night crept into her head. The voice of another filly, well... Not really a filly...brought her back to the present.

"Ha! See ya later, Rainbow Crash!"

That's what you think, she thought.

Fluttershy, the Pegasus that could hardly fly, dropped the flag. The three pegasi at the line took off, nearly knocking Fluttershy off the cloud.

Come on! Flap! Faster, Rainbow Dash, faster! Blow these idiots away! The imaginary voice of Lightning Dancer sounded in her head.

She flapped her wings faster and faster, and charged towards the ground, pushing the final cloud out of the way and sweeping upwards as a magic-sounding noise echoed around her. Looking back, she saw a rainbow trailing behind her. She had just done a Sonic Rainboom! She had done the impossible. And with the passing of that day, not only did she pass flight school, she got her Cutie Mark.

Ten years have passed since the day that Rainbow Dash earned her Cutie Mark. She still remembers and admires Lightning Dancer, but sees her only as a myth.

"It was my belief in Lightning Dancer that helped me become the fastest Pegasus in the world."

     No reply.

"Tank?! Are you even listening to me?!"

No reply came from her flying turtle.

     "Figures," She muttered.

Rainbow Dash stood up and walked towards her window. Looking outside, she noticed dark storm clouds and heard thunder. Her childhood's mind crept back in as she imagined the gold, black, and white pony racing across the sky so fast she made it thunder. Rainbow Dash shook her head vigorously.

"Dash, you're being as stubborn as a filly. Lightning Dancer does not exist!"

A gasp echoed through her mind.

Rainbow Dash! I thought you admired me! Loved me even!

Lightning Dancer's supposed voice called loud and clear, sounding just as it had when she was a filly.

"Get out of my head!" Rainbow Dash hissed. Just like that, the voice was gone. A thought slowly creeped into her mind that would throw her soul into turmoil.

Have I just lost my only inspiration for being who I am?
